This was a great suspense story focusing on a murder that happened 30 years prior. Chrissy, who was a teen at the time, confessed and served time in prison and is about to get out. She connects with Natalie, now a writer that is unable to get past that fateful night. Natalie wants to hear Chrissy's story now that she is saying she didn't commit the murder. Natalie is hoping to get a book deal out of Chrissy's story. This book moved at a swift pace and had a lot of twists and turns along the way.
This was the best book ever Carrissa Lynch
Rocks and so do all her books
What I wouldn't give to spend a few hours picking her brain
Definitely a must read
Hooked right from the start!! This book was laced with twists and lies and continued until the end. Plenty of intrigue and everytime I thought I knew what was going to happen, I was proved wrong. A brilliant ending and a must read for anyone in 2021!
This was a great murder/mystery. The descriptions were excellent and brought the characters and surroundings to life. Totally unexpected conclusion , very well executed.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book
a convicted murderer is being released on parole.
chrissy was only 14 when she confessed to the murder
but the town isnt as forgiving
an interesting read with a twist, dont want to say to much and give it all away but it flows nicely the characters blend well together
I feel a bit let down by this book as I was fully into the story and the build up was good, if a little slow at times but then suddenly the book finished. I felt the ending was a little too contrived and although all questions were answered I didn’t appreciate the ‘neatness’ of the explanation. It felt like the author had run out of time so quickly tied up the denouement so she could move on to other things. This left me feeling a little cheated.
You know how you get when you read a book and there's this huge plot twist that totally throws a bomb into how you think the book is going to end or who you think did what? Well, this book throws a massive bomb that you NEVER see coming. A bomb that changes EVERYTHING.
Natalie Breyas was just nine years old when Jenny Juliott's body is found in a field on her family farm. Her whole world changed after that. Even though people knew the body was dumped there, it didn't stop people from treating her family as if they were lepers.
Even after fourteen year old Chrissy Cornwall confesses to the murder, Natalie's life is never the same.
Years later after Natalie returns to the farm she learns that Chrissy got out on parole. Now she is claiming her innocence and that she was covering for someone else. Chrissy figures Natalie is the only person who can tell her truth, and she wants Natalie to write her story.
Chrissy's confession never set right with Natalie, but can she be trusted? Is Chrissy telling the truth? Who would she have covered for and why?
Lies, secrets, and a jaw dropping ending makes this one unforgettable book!
Natalie is still living in her childhood home, trying to come to terms with the horrific murder she had witnessed as a child. Jenny had been murdered and Chrissy had confessed and she was sent to prison. Natalie had see the aftermath as a happened on her family's farm. Natalie became obessed to why the murder has happened. Chrissy has now been released from prison and Natalie wants her to write a book out laying her reasons for murdering Jenny.
This is a gripping read. Nothing is what it seems. There's lots of twists and turns, it's well written and the plotline is intriguing. I could not put this book down. The characters were all likeable. This is a really good whodunit. I never saw the surprising ending coming.
I would like to thank #NetGalley, #HarperCollinsUK #OneMoreChapter and the author #CarissaAnnLynch for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
.
A really great and quick thriller read that definitely kept me invested the whole time. The mystery wasn't overplayed in dramatics but it had a quiet intensity that made it hard to put down. The writing style was really engaging and so easy to get into.
4/5 cups of coffee for this satisfying and intriguing mystery, thanks so much to the publisher for an earc in exchange for my honest opinion.
I loved this book. It is a quick but very intense read. There are lots of twists throughout and just when you think that you understand what happened and why Chrissie lied bang it takes that solution away. Very well written with great descriptions of the main characters, these were alive and I felt their emotions shouting throughout to me.
The biggest question as to why Chrissie lied and admitted to a murder only gets wrapped up neatly at the very end.

Book: She Lied She Died
AVAILABLE NOW!!!! December 4, 2020
Author: Carissa Ann Lynch
Genre: Mystery & Thrillers
Sipping Synopsis: Why would someone confess to something they did not do? Well unless they did it but wanted to create doubt. At 14 years old, Chrissy confessed to killing another teenager, but Natalie is just not sure. Once Chrissy is released from prison Natalie makes it her mission to find out and to see why it all happened in her yard.
Final sipping thoughts: She Lied She Died was a very quick read. I didn’t even realize I was at the end of the story because the ending was wrapped up so quickly. Although no lose ends were left, I still found myself flipping back to see if I accidentally skipped some pages. I enjoyed the twist at the end and didn’t see it coming. If you are looking for a QUICK read with some suspense and twist, you might want to try this.

Have loved some of Carissa Ann Lynch’s other books so was looking forward to this one. It started off well and had me intrigued how it was going to play out. It was a fast read if a little slow paced. Would have preferred a bit more going on. The characters were likeable and I found myself routing for them. Then all of a sudden it was over after a pretty long and slow build up. It was just a little to convenient how it all came together and a bit of a let down.
Thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter for the opportunity to read and review this ARC that was published on the 4th of Dec.
This was a fast read and a real page turner and I loved it. The story is about Natalie, now a grown woman living in her childhood home, trying coming to terms with the horrific murder she witnessed as a child and the impact it had on her family. It was very interesting seeing layer by layer getting peeled away from the original murder case and finding out what really happened that night. And in the end it was so much more than what it appeared to be.
When Natalie was just a child, she witnessed a horrific murder in her own back yard. The body of a girl just a few years older than her was found, stabbed and burned. The neighbor girl was accused of the murder and was sent to prison, but now she's out, and Natalie wants to get in contact with her again. Something about the girl's death never felt right with Natalie, and decades later, she wants to dive back into the case and figure out what really happened.
She Lied She Died is a gripping and suspenseful story that kept me on the edge of my seat. The plot twists were intense, and when I thought I had the mystery solved, I turned out to be wrong. Although I was able to fly through this story because of how addicting it was, there were several parts that felt cheesy and rushed, which is honestly the only reason this wasn't a five star read for me! Regardless of these moments in the story, I must admit that this is one of the quickest books I have read in a while because of the fast-paced and action-packed plot! I would still recommend She Lied She Died to any and all thriller readers because of the twisted truths and lies throughout the book.
A huge thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK/One More Chapter for providing an ARC of She Lied She Died!
happy pub date!
thank you to net galley, harper collins uk, and one more chapter for allowing me to read “she lied she died” in exchange for an honest review! i read part of this while moving across the country, hence the car pic.
best friend. teenager. murderer? when a young girl is found dead in natalie bryers's family’s field, fourteen-year-old chrissy cornwell confesses to the murder and rocks the town. years later, now an adult, chrissy is released from prison, but natalie, an aspiring writer, still has a lot of questions about the validity of the confession. what ensues is a dangerous game of who(actually)dunit as skeletons from the town’s past are dredged up.
“she lied she died” is my first experience with carissa anne lynch and i was stunned by how quickly i got through it! by the time i reached the final chapter, i was surprised it was already over. it was really fun to read as natalie and chrissy get to know one another better and make connections between things that happened to them, their friends, and families long ago. i didn’t know whether or not to believe chrissy, as she was sketchy at times and seemed so innocent at others. i actually had to re-read the final shocking twist to make sure it actually happened.
one thing i didn’t love about this book is that it felt a bit rushed toward the end. it seemed like that final twist came out nowhere, but maybe that’s what the author wanted. part of me wishes it had been set up a little more in advance, but i guess that could lessen the blow of the twist. i also wish there had been more character development in some cases and more family drama from the past.
overall, i’m very excited to read more of carissa’s books! i recommend this to anyone looking for a quick, twisty read.
This author always comes through with amazing thrillers!
A murder many years ago. A woman living at the family farm where the body was found when she was a child. A "confessed" killer now released after serving her time and recanting her confession.
This was a page turner with so many twists and turns, it kept me on the edge of my seat up until the end!
Thanks to Netgalley & Harper Collins for an advance copy.
WHOAAA!!! Buckle up because you are in for one heck of a ride! From the opening page to the very last and all the pages in between! I was glued.
When Natalie was a child, a young girl’s body was found in a field, not just any field, her family’s farm. Jenny was a beautiful, young teenager, who would want her dead? Chrissy Cornwall, a teenager herself, is the opposite of Jenny, confesses to killing Jenny. Of course someone like Chrissy is surely capable of cold blooded murder.... isn’t she?
40 years later, Natalie is the last of her family, and again, living at her family’s farm house. This murder haunted her all her life, and it caused her family a lot of anguish through the years. When she hears Chrissy is released from prison and she and back to the town of Austin, Natalie again is drawn into the mystery of why one teenage girl would do the unthinkable to another teenage girl.
Set out to write a book from Chrissy’s perspective, who claims she is innocent, Natalie is thrust back into that time period that torn her own family apart. And ultimately question, is it better to leave family secrets buried?
This is the first novel I’ve read by Carissa, and it left me wanting more.
I would like to thank Netgalley, Harper CollinsUK and One More Chapter for an early copy in exchange for an honest review.
A Really fast paced and exciting read. I thought the characters were strong, even though I didn’t particularly feel a lot of emotion towards them. The suspense in this book was superbly written, with a twist that left me shook! This definitely cannot be described as predictable.
This is the first book by Carissa Ann Lynch I have read but I will be certain to look out for more
When a young girl is found dead in her family's field, Natalie is horrified when she sneaks into her brother's room and looks out the window through his telescope. As an adult, she is consumed with the need to know for certain why the teenage Chrissy confessed to the murder and what was her motivation for killing. She is haunted by the scars left on her family in the aftermath - her mother leaves, her father disengages and eventually dies, and her brother commits suicide.
Natalie is a frustrated author and when Chrissy is released from jail as an adult and offers to tell her the real story of what happened, Natalie jumps in feet first. While she is still not sure of Chrissy's innocence and more than a little scared to be in the same room with her, she braves some sketchy circumstances in order to interview her.
I loved the portrayal of Chrissy, and her manipulation of Natalie. The last third of the book takes off, and while I thought I guessed who the murderer was, the ending, while far-fetched, made for an interesting plot twist. This was a quick read, and a real thrill ride!
Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK/One More Chapter for an advanced reader's copy for review.
Natalie was 9-years-old when she was awakened to a commotion in the field on her family’s farm. It turned out that a young girl, Jenny Juliott had been brutally murdered and dumped in the field. Later, another young girl, Chrissy Cornwall, admitted to killing her and was sentenced to prison. Now, 30 years later, Chrissy has been paroled and has come back to this small town in Ohio. The residents and press are all over her and want to know why she has been released and why is she back here.
Natalie’s parents and older brother Jack had been close until this terrible occurrence. Some years later, her mother left her father who passed away afterward and her brother committed suicide. Now, Natalie owns the farm and lives there alone. Even after earning her college degree with a goal of becoming a writer, she has never published anything and now works as a cashier at Kmart. Natalie is very curious about what really happened and Chrissy has agreed to tell her the true story and Natalie wants to write a book about it. But the press and other townspeople want to know what their relationship is and why they are talking together.
As Natalie learns more things that happened in the past, she realizes that the truth has been closer than she thought. So many lies she had been told and when she uncovers the truth, she is shocked to the core…just as I was. I had no idea. The ending is really surprising so gear yourself up for it. Enjoy!
