I enjoyed reading this book. It had a good story to it. I liked the variety of characters in it. It is my first book read by this author. I hope to read more books by this author.
Thank you to netgalley for the chance to read this book I exchange for an honest review. I loved this book such an easy read, a real page turner and I was hooked really early on and couldn't wait to find out the truth. The story follows Natalie a want-to-be author who decided to write the true story of Chrissy who 20+ yeas earlier admitted to the murder of. young girl found dead in the field at Natalies Family farm
Overall this is an excellent whodunit, and I cant wait to read more by this author.
“She Lied She Died” is the first book I have read by Carissa Ann Lynch, but it will not be my last! It isn’t very often that I get 3/4 of the way through a book and think OMG, WTH, but this book left me unable to set it down until I finished the very last page. I really enjoyed the writing style and felt I connected with the characters, pulling for some and hating others. Go and and get this book, just be sure not to plan anything for the rest of the day because once you start, you can’t stop until the book is finished.
Wow! I am utterly blown away by this book. I was desperate for a read that I could completely immerse myself into, being bed bound with pregnancy, and this book beyond delivered. I was so caught up in the story and the brilliant level of detail that I finished it in one night!
Throughout this story, the brilliant level of detail has you jumping to conclusions, all of which will be wrong, and twisting your mind to try to figure out just has happened in this small town, and how many lives it will tear apart in the process. The story flows exceptionally well, filled with turns and excitement, whilst also remaining very realistic and true.
The level of detail in both the crime and characters really bring the story and the world to life. It is very easy to become part of the story and see yourself there, trying to figure out exactly what took place and when. You’ll find yourself liking people you thought you wouldn’t and hating others. From cover to cover, you will want to keep your mind sharp, a important little details crop up in the story, that you’ll notice later.
Overall, this is by far the best story I have read, in 2020, and it will take a lot to come close to beating it. It is written to perfection and flows so realistically that you will start to think it really happened. A definite must read!
In Carissa Ann Lynch's ,"She Lied, she Died" 9 year-old Natalie Breyas' world is turned upside down when the body of a teenager is found in a field next to her family's home. In the frenzied aftermath the media and the locals point the finger at a number of people, including Natalie's father and casting a cloud over her whole family. Very quickly local teenager Chrissy Cornwall is arrested on rather flimsy evidence but makes a full confession and is jailed. Despite this the damage is done and Natalie and her family are ostracised with the pressure seemingly leading to her mother leaving home.
Years late Natalie learns that not only has Chrissy been released but has come back to live in the same town now claiming top be innocent.
From there on Chrissy, who intends to write a book about the murder, tries to keep an open mind , investigates Natalie's claims and opens a whole can of worms.
While I really enjoyed the story I did find parts of it stretched credulity more than a bit and none of the characters are particularly likeable people. Avid crime thriller readers won't find many surprises here, they'll see through the red herrings quite easily and each twist is telegraphed, but it's entertaining and a quick, easy read, a good way to pass a few hours.
She Lied She Died is a gripping thriller that will have you hooked from the beginning. A young girl is found dead in a neighbours field and Chrissy Cornwall confesses to the murder although she’s just a child herself. Years later she is released from prison and Natalie still has questions about the murder. Did Chrissy really commit this horrific act? If she did, will she kill again? Tense and gripping, you will find this book hard to put down. Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collins UK One More Chapter and the author for the chance to review.
I love a book that draws you in from the beginning. This one does just that. I couldn't stop reading. You guess all the way to the end and you still don't see it coming. Great from start to end. I am heartbroken over some of the characters and what they went through.
Just like all of Carissa Ann Lynch’s other books, SHE LIED SHE DIED is a fantastic twisty thriller that had me frantically turning pages all the way to the shocking ending that made my jaw drop to the floor.
At the age of 9, Natalie Bryers and her family are thrust into the middle of a tragic story when the body of a teenager is found on their farm. The discovery sets her family on a new course and thirty years later, Natalie, a wanna-be writer currently working at K-Mart, finds herself living alone on the farm and still dealing with the fallout of that day.
When the young woman that confessed to the crime is released from prison and returns to town, Natalie’s life takes another turn. Chrissy Cornwall wants to tell her story and she wants Natalie to write it. But writing it means facing the past Natalie has been so desperately trying to forget.
The characters in SHE LIED SHE DIED pull you in and make you care about them even as you question their actions and the book moves at a breathtakingly fast pace giving the reader just enough information to make you desperate for more with every chapter.
Carissa Ann Lynch just keeps getting better with every book and is a must read author for me.
Thank you to One More Chapter for the advance reading copy.
Drawn in from the first pages. Couldn’t put it down read late into the night.Well written characters that come alive a tense chilling thriller.#netgalley#harpercollinsuk
A years-old murder mystery is at the crux of this fascinating story. The search for the culprit instead of the obvious suspect is thrilling and surprising at the same time. An excellent book!
It’s not very often that a book literally makes me exclaim ‘WHAT?!’ loud enough to disturb my family. I genuinely did not see the twist approaching and that raises this book from a good thriller to a great one.
I wasn’t overly keen on the characters, which is a shame, but the story itself is top notch.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for my copy of this book.
I would like to thank the author, the publisher and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of this book. I really enjoyed it, it seemed like it was cut and dried from the beginning but of course nothing is ever as it seems. I certainly did not expect it to end the way it did.
5 stars and rightly so.
30 years ago Jenny was found murdered in a farmer's field. Natalie was the daughter of the farmer.
Life was never the same for either family.
Chrissy aged 14 confesses to the murder and is now out of jail.
No one wants her back in town.
Chrissy says I was innocent and Natalie just wants the truth.
Be careful what you wish for.
Carissa Ann Lynch throws one great curveball to the reader.
I did not see that ending coming.
Although the book was short , I loved that aspect as you felt you yourself were racing to get the answers along with Natalie.
Add She Lied, She Died to your TBR pile and move it to the top of the pile.
Thanks to Net Galley and Harper Collins UK , One More Chapter for a twisted read . Off to check out more of Carissa's books.
Thank you NetGalley and author Carissa Ann Lynch for giving me an advanced ebook ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review! All thoughts and opinions are my own. This book was exactly what I want when I pick to read a thriller. This book kept me on my toes the entire time! While it may be short, it was no less well written and had good character development! The author did a great job of allowing readers to doubt the guilt of Chrissy even though she confessed to the crime. The pacing was great! The information and the climax was a slow build that led to an explosive yet twisted ending that felt me reeling! This was my first book by this author and it will not be my last. Overall, I highly recommend this book to those who like thrillers that have you questioning who really committed the crime!
I spent so much time confused and trying to figure everything out.
“Bad girls lie. Good girls die.” I think that is what was said. It didn’t make sense until later in the book. Anyone could have committed the crime, but who did? Was it the person who did the time or someone else?
This story will keep you on your toes and flipping the pages trying to figure out who it was and why.
I love Carissa Ann Lynch’s writing style and her thrillers seem to get better and better. Read them! You won’t be disappointed!
At just 9 years old, Natalie's life was changed forever when a teenage girl was found murdered on her family's land. The killer? A fourteen year old girl, Chrissy, who confesses and spends the next 30 years in prison. But upon her release, she returns to her hometown, and seeks out aspiring author Natalie to tell her story. But can Chrissy really be trusted? And what really happened all those years ago...?
I've only ever read one of Lynch's previous books, and I remember it being totally bizarre and completely gripping. She Lied, She Died, was equally as captivating, and you find yourself immediately drawn into the story and gripped by Natalie's search for the truth. There's so many twists and turns along the way, with each chapter adding a little more information about what may or may not have happened on the night Jenny was murdered. And as for the final reveal? It's truly shocking, with a rapid blitz of new information being thrown in that destroys everything you think you know.
This to me was exactly what you want a thriller to be - a quick read that grips you from start to finish and leaves you with your jaw on the floor. Absolutely brilliant, and one I definitely recommend.
Disclaimer - I was fortunate enough to be provided with an advance reading copy of this book by NetGalley. This has not affected my review in any way, and all opinions are my own.
She Lied She Died by Carissa Ann Lynch is a book that left me speechless. I didn’t see the ending coming but I love that type of story. Natalie was only 9 when a teenage girl was found murdered on her family farm. Fast forward 30 years and the person convicted of the murder is released. Natalie becomes obsessed with finding out the truth and writing a book about it. I really enjoyed this book that had me quickly turning the pages.
The story itself was quite compelling but I did not feel connected to the characters in the book. It tells the story of how a murder affects families in different ways, even if they do not realize it and it relies on peoples memories of events and the secrets they keep.
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK
Aspiring but unpublished author Natalie sees a close to home opportunity when the convicted murderer of a girl found murdered on her family farm is released from prison. Natalie was ten when she saw the commotion from her brother Jack’s bedroom window. She knew the victim and she knew Christie who confessed to the murder. But she always wondered if it was that simple particularly as her own family fell apart in the aftermath. She now wants Christie, who claims to be innocent, to help her write that first book. From there the story unfolds with the gradual release of further information to keep the reader guessing. The teenage relationships which could have led to a revenge murder are well portrayed. The ending is hidden in the title! This is an unusual story and well worth reading. I recommend it.
This story had a compelling plot line that kept me reading late into the night. However, I did not find the main character relatable/likable which made it difficult for me to feel fully immersed the story.
