What an intriguing story this is! It gets off to a fabulous start - you're told that the mother you thought was dead your whole life, has actually been alive and living close to you. Now she really is dead. How on earth do you process a bombshell like that? Nell decides to go back to her family home and investigate and that's when the puzzle deepens. The story is told by Nell in the present and her mother Sarah from the past to her death, and gradually the secrets are uncovered and the shocking truth becomes clear. Loved it!

I was sucked into this book by both the premise (what if your mother, who you were told as a child was long dead, had been alive all along and only just died in your adulthood?) and the gorgeous cover. Ever since my childhood reading Flowers in the Attic, I’ve loved a good evil grandmother/evil mother story. Unfortunately this one did not thrill me too much. I am usually a fan of alternating narrators and the two narrators the author chose in this story were great. But for me the narrators did not really track eachother in the storyline of what was happening - one was much farther ahead in the story than the other. I also felt the story moved a little too slowly and the ending was not too much of a surprise. I usually really enjoy Bookouture’s twisty suspense offerings so I think my expectation for thrills was high - and ultimately this one was not quite twisty or exciting enough for me. The book to me read as more of a family drama, which some may enjoy, but me? I’m a thriller adrenaline addict.

Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

I screamed, cried ,jumped for joy (wait was that joy). I liked Nell (I was rooting for her) because she had a lot going on..Imagine finding out your grandmother lied to you about your mother being dead *sad face emoji* only to find out that she died recently not when you were a baby. She then goes to her hometown to get answers from grandmother but finds some stranger and it only gets better from there. This book had tons going for it, what a great thriller!

I love a book that explores dark family secrets, and What We Hide is a brilliant example of a well-written, twisty novel. Another fantastic and compelling thriller by Sanderson.

Entertaining but predictable. I liked that the book was told from both Nell and Sarah's perspectives, but ultimately expected a little more of a twist than was delivered. All in all, an enjoyable read. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the digital ARC!

This book is an easy read. Definitely will take you one sit to finish it. Nel, the main character received a call from a Solicitor stating that her mom has been dead recently but what Lilian, her grandma, uttered before, her mom died when she’s still a baby. Shocked and intrigued with new information that surfaced, she came back to her hometown to find out the truth. Hostility was there the first time she stepped in her old house where she met Adam. Then, lots of things happened as if asking her to leave and not to pursue the answers she’s looking for. Why did her grandma lied to her? This book was set to feature the alternate point of views of Nel and her mom. Albeit, I already have the hunch why she has been lied at, it was still great to find out the whole story and why those characters acted that way. Again, you’ll read between the lines who is the greatest liar? But I also appreciate the back story of these characters, their motives and betrayal. Can loving someone so much makes you do crazy things to the point you think you are sheltering them or was it an obsession? Will this book stand out? Maybe. Maybe not. But it’s not bad. Still recommend to read this one.

A 3* good read.

Nell receives a solicitor's letter informing her that her mother is dead and that she should attend the reading of the will. Nell goes into a state of shock as she understood her mother to have died when she was a baby. What follows is the story of Nell getting to the truth and it's a solid family drama that, although not a riveting read, does maintain momentum and interest and it's a well written easy read.

Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview.

A story in which the plot continues to thicken...

Nell receives a letter from her mother's attorney asking her to call him. He tells her that her mother has recently passed away. Wait! Her mother, Sarah, had died in a car crash with my father when she was a very young child! This has to be a mistake! Her grandmother, Lilian, raised Nell - who ran away from her at the age of 16. Lilian had been strict and cloying...

Having had little contact, if any, for years, Nell sees the attorney and is given her mother's locket. Her mum died in poverty and was neglected.

Nell decides to confront her grandmother (who totally lied to her all of these years) in person - then the excitement ramps up...

A very good read! Many Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley!

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!!

When she receives the letter carrying the news of her mother’s death, Nell is shocked to the core that she just cant think straight. Because her mother has been dead for thirty years and she had been brought up by her grandmother Lilian. So why did her grandmother lie? And why did her mother abandon her?

Nell returns to the town where she grew up, to seek answers from her grandmother but once she reaches there she meets people she has never met before and begins to receive anonymous threats. How much danger will Nell risk for the truth?

It is a good psychological thriller which is filled with dark family secrets just waiting to be revealed.

Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy of What We Hide.

Hmm I’m really not sure how to begin this review... I did really enjoy this book but at the same time it was 100% predictable, which usually turns me off of books. The concept was so intriguing to me; Nell discovering the mother, Sarah, she believe died when she was a baby actually survived and has just now passed away in 2019. Lilian, her grandmother, who has been lying to her for 20+ years about her family history. Adam, her long-lost cousin who is know residing in Lilian’s home, Willow House. Strange things happening to Nell such as her things being moved, threats being spray painted on the outside fence, menacing phone calls. I read this really fast because I was dying to know what could make Lilian act the way she did. Reading from Sarah’s point of view back in the 90’s had me shaking my head at how awful Lilian was to Sarah however when I finally found out the reason why, I have to admit it made so much more sense! While this is packed with family secrets, the big reveal at the end was very anti-climactic and just had me saying “I knew it all along”.

Poor Nell has been living with her grandmother all her life because her mom and dad died in a car wreck when she was a baby....or so she thought. We start the book when Nell is grown and living on her own in London. She receives a letter from a solicitor informing her that her mother just died...what? She has been told her whole life that her mother died long, long ago!! So what is going on?

This is a familial drama and the ending surprised me. Although this wasn't my favorite book the writing was done well and kept me hooked and interested to continuously want to read. I recommend for anyone who likes a story about secrets and lies in a family. This book is marketed as a thriller but it is more of a mystery in my opinion.

Nell receives a letter from a solicitor informing her of her mother's death. The shocking news turns her life upside down, especially given the fact that her parents had died when she was a baby, leaving her to be raised by her grandmother, Lilian.
Nell returns to the town where she grew up, seeking answers from her grandmother, whose overprotective care she escaped at the age of 16. But all she gets is more questions and anonymous threats.

The story, told from Nell's third-person perspective, started off very promising and gripped me instantly.
It was a very quick and easy read, and I raced through it in no time.
However, I found it lacked the wow factor. There wasn't enough suspense and the ending felt very rushed and lacked a powerful delivery. I considered giving it 4 stars based solely on the fact that it was a page-turner, but in the end, I couldn't justify it enough.
Overall, it was an entertaining read.
This was my first book by this author, but I'm curious to check out her other novels.

Nell is completely shocked to get the news that her mother has died... because she thought her mother died when she was just a baby. Why did her grandmother Lilian lie to her? And why did her mother abandon her? Nell is determined to find answers, but her search for the truth may reveal more secrets than she thought possible...

A thrilling story with twists and turns, and a variety of intriguing characters, I couldn't stop reading until I found out all the truths and secrets. I liked how the tale went between Nell in the present and her mother Sarah in the past. A good read.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of the book in return for my honest feedback.
