Mom Marries Mum is a delightful little LGBTQ+ picture book about two children's mothers getting married. What I loved about this book was how it portrays the exact thoughts of a young child about a big day such as their parents' wedding day and shows the excitement of the child.
We need more diverse children's books like this!
This is a very simple board book for young children. There is not a lot happening in this story, it is all about the excitement of a wedding and the celebration. Who is going to be there? What are they going to do? What will they wear? Just a sweet story about a same sex couple getting married with no fuss, no issues, just love and wonderful celebration. I read this to my grandchildren, but they are a bit too old for this one. They listened and talked a bit about weddings they have gone to and the fact that they didn't get to blow bubbles, but that was about it. This would be a great story to read to little ones who will be involved in a wedding, no matter whose it happens to be.
Mom and Mum are getting married and a brother and sister are delighted with the preparations and celebration. The text is simple and is a perfect read aloud for preschool to Kindergarten and an independent reading book for Kindergarten and Grade one students. I also recommend purchasing the book for school libraries to promote acceptance.

These kids are celebrating a happy day, but like any they have questions.
This book is a joy- simple, to the point and full of celebration.
The illustrations are really lovely, the pastel color pallet burst with energy.

This book is utterly adorable and is a must read, in my books!
Mom Marries Mum is a delightful book about two children's Moms getting married! It's an exciting and sweet little book about all the questions these kids have about the wedding Mom and Mum are going to have.
I did want a little bit more from this book. Maybe a plot or some education in it, but it was still sweet regardless. It's a short and simple book.
Two out of five stars.

ARC provided by the publisher via NetGalley.
This was a heartwarming picture book about the questions two kids put when their moms get married.
I requested and received an e-ARC of this book from Alice Priestley, Ken Setterington, and Second Story Press through NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Although I love that this is about two mommies getting married and the child is asking questions about the wedding, this book was really short. I just wish there were a bit more content, otherwise good book.
This is a simple board book that repeats the story of Mom and Mum are Getting Married. This time the illustrations are better and the story is simple to understand for the youngest in the family.
I was given this book from netgalley - thank you to the publisher and author. Lovely little book about a lesbian wedding. Very simple language but with very cute pictures. My little girl enjoyed it!
Perfect for normalising gay relationships throughout the population. We often choose books like this so she’s knows that gay relationships are not different.
Highly recommended.
Short board book, pretty basic. Not sure it’s one that kids would dip back into a lot or ask for, but in some cases it might turn out to be just the right book for a wee one.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy to read and review.
This adorable board book is a celebration of family. I love the colourful images and the simple story about two people who love each other getting married. As a board book it will be a perfect addition to a child's library.
A great representation of family! Bringing everyone together for a very special day. It is good that there are more books geared to young children.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
This is a beautiful, short, simple but lovely children's book about a child's excitement about her and her brothers two Mums getting married.
What I loved about this book was its the exact thoughts a young child may have about a big day such as their parents wedding day and portrays the excitement of the said child.
This would be a great book to share with a child when a parent or family member is getting married.
Such a sweet book! I love the simplicity of the story: Mom and Mum are getting married, and everyone is happy and celebrating! The illustrations were beautiful. This would be a great book for young readers, and could be an excellent and easy way to discuss same-sex marriage.
An adorable children't book that shows that weddings are meant for everyone. It shows that a relationship between two women is a beautiful thing and it is!
With all the madness that’s currently happening in the world and the exhausting job, I almost forgot it’s still Pride month.
Today I’m going to talk about MOM MARRIES MUM! by Ken Setterington and Alice Priestley.
The title catches my attention, and this is a lovely children’s book.
« A brother and sister are thrilled that their mom and mum are getting married! After dancing around the living room, they are full of questions. Will Nana and Pop be there? Will they get to dress up? The answer is yes! They celebrate the wedding outdoors with family and friends. And most importantly, they all get to blow bubbles! A beautiful celebration of a loving family celebrating an important day together. »
I really enjoy reading this book and I wish there are more children’s books about the subject.
I hope parents, lgbtq or not, will read this story and then read it to their children.
I hope these same children will understand that there are no rules for love but to listen to what your heart tells you.
Love is a powerful strength and everyone is worthy to love and be loved.
My heart breaks everytime I read the story of a broken family and parents who couldn’t face the fact that their child is different, or vice versa.
We don’t choose what we feel, we don’t choose our blood family, but we can choose our friends: those who stick with you no matter what and those who are like family.
I’ve been lucky but I know a lot of you didn’t have the same chance, and I want to say that life will get better once you understand that you are worthy, you are awesome, you are not alone.
This is why we need more books like MOM MARRIES MUM!
Thank you Netgalley and Second Story Press for sending me this advanced reader copy.
MOM MARRIES MUM! will be released on September, 8th, 2020
Very simple, very sweet. Would have been nice to have a bit more diversity – why have both Mum and Mom be white, able-bodied and fairly traditionally feminine-presenting? That said, books like this are important to have, so hopefully this is just one in the beginning of a series of other books about LGBTQ+ parenting and family life.
What a cute little gay wedding story. The art was adorable, and you even notice that there are all different kinds of families attending the wedding. It's very sweet. Love is love.
This little book is so sweet and wonderful! The illustrations are amazing as well. Definitely suited more towards a child who is learning to read I think rather than being a book that should be read to children. Particularly a good book if there is a wedding on the horizon, but I do suspect that children wouldn’t know why their mummies wedding is any different to their aunt and uncles wedding, for example.
My only criticism is that I would want the book to be a little longer, it seems awfully short. But I will only rate it based on what IS there, not what I wish was there.
5/5 stars
Many thanks to Netgalley and Second Story Press for a copy of this book in exchange for my review.
Mom marries Mum about a pair of siblings excited for their mom and mum getting married. At first I thought the book was too simple and quick, but then I re-read the description and realized it was a board book. It is a perfect and easy to understand story for babies & toddlers. I found it absolutely adorable that one mom was american and the other mum was British.
