It is exactly what it says in the title. The first story felt like a really long short story with which to begin this compilation, but everything flowed, perfect for summertime reading when I couldn't sit still for too long either because it's too hot or I fell victim to an afternoon nap.

Overall, this book is exactly what it says it is: a collection of Japanese short stories. Some stories are amazing ("Insects" and "Hell Screen"), some are good, and some weren't for me. I went in not knowing what to expect, and I think that this is the best way to enjoy this collection. I highly recommend reading Murakami's introduction, as it is one of the most efficient introductions I have ever read. On a side note, I may never look at sugar the same way again.
