I thought the first part of "The Girl in the Mirror" a little boring, a there is a lot of boating jargon and sailing scenes. The characters were so-so, I just did not really like them. However, the latter part of the book got interesting and since I am new to reading thrillers, I did not see the ending coming. Whew! What a surprise to me, how the book ended.

Wow....just wow. This is an amazing thriller with twists and turns which if not unpredictable were entertaining. It’s well written with intriguing, if not exactly like able, characters. I swept away in this story and could hardly force myself to put it down until I finished. Summer Rose and Iris are twins, mirror images of one another. Not particularly close which is good because they are all of their siblings are in a race to inherit their father’s fortune - the first to get married and have a child wins 100 million dollars. Their father’s favorite phrase is nice is dumb and this story proves that over and over again.

The Girl in the Mirror was a true thriller with a great twisty ending. I loved this so much! It was a suspenseful read all the way to the last paragraph. The story is of Summer and Iris twins, who are mirror images of each other. Summer is the favorite twin and has life figured out. Iris is the twin who has lost her job, her marriage, and has no direction in life. The character development of the twins and their brother Ben was excellent and left you wondering where the story would take you. The middle was a little slow but it totally paid off as the ending was perfect. This one is for all those thrillers lovers who loved Gone Girl or Jar of Hearts you'll LOVE this one. Thank you to NetGalley and William Morrow Books for my advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

One hundred million dollars is on the line to produce the first heir.

Summer and Iris Carmichael, mirror twins, are the oldest of the 7 children. Iris always felt that Summer had it all, beauty inside and out, kindness, married to a man who is wealthy by his own right, whereas Iris has one failed marriage and only had her eye on the prize. How far will she go?

I found that the plot was suspenseful throughout which kept me turning the pages. And for that, I gave it 4 stars. However, I found that there was a lot of nauticalese. And the ending was shocking, but for me, very confusing, to the point, that I didn't truly know who received the money and for that, I gave it a 3.5 rating.

I do recommend it as I feel others that like a good psychological thriller, would enjoy it.

Iris and Summer are twins and appear to be very much alike, but one of them definitely has a dark and evil side, brought out by a battle for their father's inheritance. When the twins sail the family yacht across the Indian Ocean, only one of them makes it back to land, and not everything is as it seems. Lots of twists and turns will have you guessing until the very end.

How identical are identical twins? What would you do for 100 million dollars? Rose Carlyle pushes these ideas to the brink in this incredibly engrossing thriller about an incredibly twisted family.

I applaud Carlyle first and foremost for weaving together all of the ideas in this book so well. There is a lot going on and in another writer's hands, things could have gotten murky. It is a testament to her skill that she manages to keep every plate spinning. From the twins' relationship to the inheritance drama to the sailing, everything is presented in both a cohesive and enticing manner.

This book was absolutely twisted in all of the best ways. Almost every character has something crazy going on and it made for an immensely enjoyable book. I found myself second-guessing what I thought was going to happen just because I felt there was no way this story could get any crazier and it did! My only complaint is that one of the major twists in the book makes the final twist a little more obvious than I would have liked, but I was still shocked at the insanity of it all. I found myself staying up until the wee hours of the morning to finish this - probably the most ringing endorsement I could give.

Thank you to NetGalley, William Morrow, and HarperCollins Publishers for an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review!

What a twisty read from the beginning to the end! And just when you think you have it all figured out, you really don't. We start the story with twins, Summer and Iris, who by all means should have only been one person. They are as close as siblings can be but one is perfect with the perfect life while the other feels like she missed out on that perfection. They embark on a sailing trip together and that's where the story takes it's twisty turn. From then on, you're not sure who is who, who knows what, and where everything will end up. And in the final pages, you think you have it all figured out, but really do you?

The story and characters are well developed but a little annoying, which I think they are meant to be. There is a good flow to the story and it keeps your attention while also keeping you guessing. I did figure out a little of the story part way through but overall, I still enjoyed it and still had surprises. I think it is a worthy read and a good thriller!

Thanks to Netgalley, the author (Rose Carlyle), and the publisher (HarperCollins Publishers) for a copy of the book.

Twins. One is evil and they are identical, even their mother and brother can’t tell them apart. This is a very twisty book, just when you think you have it all figured out, it changes again. Quite a page-turner.

This book. Wow. Just wow. Talk about a twist. This thriller features identical twins, an ugly family legacy courtesy of a father’s will, and allies upon lies. A definite must read for any thriller lover.

A thrilling and twisty suspense story that is perfect reading for dark and stormy autumn nights. I read this book in one sitting because I couldn't put it down! The story is about a pair of mirror twins, and begins with Iris posing as her twin sister Summer to claim a $100 million inheritance after Summer disappears from a yacht in the middle of the Indian Ocean. I could never have predicted all the twists and turns in this story and enjoyed every page of it. Thank you very much to NetGalley and William Morrow for introducing me to a great new mystery author and giving me the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I can't wait to see what Rose Carlyle will write next!

This was a fast-paced page-turner of a book! Bonus points because it was about twins (I love books about twins). I felt like I should've seen the twist coming at the end, but the writing was so masterfully done, I didn't even THINK of it. Nuances to this thriller include family drama, pregnancy, a family will and inheritance, and sailing. I enjoyed it all!

Three and a half stars out of five! Summer and Iris Carmicheal are twins who have always felt right and wrong (respectively). This story discusses what happens to them while they are on a sailing trip from Thailand to the Seychelles. Oh the mystery and intrigue that are packed into this one! I was hooked on this one from the beginning and it would not let me go until the very last word. Congratulations to Rose Carlyle for a quick paced debut! While I guessed part of the twist while reading, I did not see all of what was coming. I didn't feel too attached to any of the characters, but the characters were well written. I am looking forward to seeing what else may come from Rose Carlyle.

Thank you to Rose Carlyle, Netgalley, Scene of the Crime reads, and William Morrow for the opportunity to read this in exchange for my honest opinion.

The girl in the mirror is miserable, but at least she’s real.

One hundred million dollars. (Insert Dr. Evil meme here) The writing killed me with its problematic words, but the plot was interesting and the twists to make it a true thriller really shines.

I’ll be honest, I almost stopped not even 10% in. “I’m no good at guessing ethnicity, but you can always tell Chinese twins because their parents have that we-beat-the-one-child-policy smile” was super cringe to me. It’s okay, maybe I’m just being sensitive, I said. So, I carried on. Then, the “m” word is dropped and I’m really thinking Yikes On Bikes. But then, I said to myself it could be because this is Australian, they may not have the same slang, but it still rubbed me the wrong way. Listen, I’m not one to realize things are problematic, it’s usually after someone else points it out I think about it. So if I’m saying it before anyone else, it’s a big oof.

It seemed very misogynistic and archaic. I would have thought it was written by a man with sentences like, “ I’m struck again by how much Phuket has changed. It’s like seeing a beautiful woman ruined by age” and “I’m twenty-three, and for the first time in my life, I feel old. I can’t believe I’ve let five years go by since I reached marriageable age and I still haven’t produced the magic heir”. My eyes hurt from rolling so hard. But, I moved on and tried to focus on the plot.

Iris, to me, was hilarious with Tarq. I know a lot of people that feel the same way about kids, and I couldn’t help but laugh. Her misery was comical. The twists and turns in the book were great. They were easy to guess, but still enjoyable nonetheless. I think some editing on the problematic phrases would make this a definite 4-5 star book, but I honestly couldn’t shake a lot of it. (Ex. Sexyrape. Excuse me?)

Thank you William Morrow & NetGalley for the gifted copy. This is out 10.20.2020!

Twin sisters. Identical but not the same.

The Girl in the Mirror is a suspenseful and twisted read! Lies and betrayal? YES! I love a good thriller and this book delivered. The pacing of the story was slow in some places but I was invested in the story so it didn’t bother me too much. These characters were insane! Some of the choices and actions they made, had my head spinning. It made for a great read though! Twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. I reached the ending and I closed the book and just sat there saying to myself, wooooow.

A wonderful debut! I enjoyed her writing style. Her storytelling style kept me engaged. I look forward to what she comes out with next. Miss Carlyle has a new fan! I give this 4 stars.

Iris Carmichael is, in the grand tradition of the trope of twins, the less than perfect sister. Iris is backwards- her organs are on the opposite side and, in her mind, she is also the opposite of her mirror twin, the perfect, caring, kind Summer. But when Summer calls and needs her help to navigate from Thailand to the Seychelles on the family's yacht, Iris jumps at the opportunity to escape from her crumbling marriage, which was a desperate attempt to secure the Carmichael fortune that will be granted to the first born grandchild. During the trip Summer goes missing and Iris makes the decision to become Summer, taking on her entire life, including her husband.

I started this book, put it aside, and then restarted it. The second time was the charm and this read very quickly. There were enough hints of tension to keep you on your toes. Is Iris trustworthy? Can she pull off becoming Summer? The final few pages were so twisty-turny that I actually had to reread them to really appreciate the writing and hints dropped. I would definitely recommend this book!

Wow this was certainly a book with a interesting twist. Iris and Summer are twins, not just any twins but mirror image twins. This was my first book by this author and she wrote an amazing book. This type of genre is one of my all time favorites, and look forward to reading more of her books in the future. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that loves this genre of books.

What just happened? I so didn't see this book's twist coming that I'm pretty sure I have whiplash. And I mean that in a good way.

Let's start with the plot. Summer and Iris are identical twins who are literally the mirror image of each other - Iris's left side is the perfect reflection of Summer's right. All their lives, no one has been able to tell them apart but Iris knows they're not the same - Summer is the "good" twin, the one everyone loves. "Everywhere she goes, she's the sun in the morning sky. The first rose of spring. And I'm her shadow, her double, her ultimate accessory." Iris is jealous of her sister's life, including her marriage to perfect Adam, but would still do anything for her so when Summer calls asking her twin to fly to Thailand to help sail the family yacht to the Seychelles, Iris agrees. But when Summer mysteriously disappears from the boat one night, everything changes. Adam assumes Iris is Summer and she doesn't correct his mistake, stepping into the life she always wished was hers with no one the wiser. Can she keep up the deception to get everything she wants or will what seemed like a dream come true become the ultimate nightmare?

Let me tell you, I've never been so glad my twin girls are fraternal as I was when I was reading this book! Despite her flaws, you can't help but feel for Iris and while the lengths she goes to are extreme, I rooted for her to come out on top, whatever that might end up meaning. Carlyle keeps the story moving and the twists coming and like I said, the ending totally surprised me. This is a great debut thriller and I'm excited for what she writes next.

This was such a fun and twisty thriller! The Girl in the Mirror tells the story of “mirror twins” Iris and Summer. Iris has always believed that she could never compare to her kind, beautiful twin, Summer, who has the perfect life. After a tragic boating accident, Iris is given the chance to take over Summer’s life, but will she take it?

I loved The Girl in the Mirror. It is just the kind of thriller that I love to read - crazy, unpredictable, and over the top. The storyline is so fun and I loved the characters with all of their craziness and flaws. It is about 300 pages, so it is super fast-paced and easy to devour in one or two sittings.

Overall, The Girl in the Mirror is a classic crazy, twisty popcorn read that is perfect for fans of The Last Mrs. Parrish and The Wife Between Us. Make sure to preorder/pick up a copy when it releases on 10/13/2020!

Summer and Iris are twins. One is extremely evil and one is extremely naive. Speaking in the voice of Iris, the author leads the reader quickly into the story. The twins father died when they were teens, leaving millions of dollars in his estate to his first grandchild that is born in a legal marriage. Iris is after this money, but her marriage has failed and she has failed to become pregnant. This leaves Summer, happily married with a stepchild and not desire to birth a child right away. In addition to a sailing trip from Thailand to the Seychelles, the death of one of the twins (which one?), and a pregnancy that could win all the money, the book also includes additional family drama: the mother of the twins clearly favors one over the other, there are half-siblings involved who could also be in the running for the money, an evil uncle currently has control of the money and he doesn't want to give that up. Set mostly in Australia, this will hold your attention right to the last page. You may even be like me and have to read the last chapter a second time just to make sure you understand what has happened.
