I was so engrossed in finding out what happened in this story that I devoured it. This quick read is creepy and an interesting take on siblings particularly twins. The idea of mirroring had me getting major uncanny valley vibes. Glad I read it.
Wow! What a read!
"The Girl in the Mirror" is about mirror twins, Summer and Iris. I had no idea that this could actually be a thing until I read this book. One twin is perceived to be perfect, while the other twin struggles day by day. All is not what it seems and their lives change forever during a sailing trip.
I thoroughly enjoyed "The Girl in the Mirror." This was the perfect spooky fall read. I was immediately sucked into the story and truly couldn't put this book down. I just HAD to know what happened. I pride myself on being able to figure out the conclusion to thrillers before the ending, but this one threw me for a loop right at the very end.
Thank you to NetGalley, The Book Club Girls, and William Morrow publishing for my ARC.
I loved the first half of this book with its slow-building suspense and crazy family drama, but at right about the halfway mark it got too weird for me... I had downloaded a review copy from NetGalley a while ago so I hadn't really looked at the reviews and I missed the "sexual content" warning that BOTM gave it once they added it as one of their October picks. They don't usually say that if it's just sex - that usually means something extra that would make me uncomfortable. 🙈🤣 I know there are plenty of people who love reading about that kind of thing, but I'm just not a fan.
I kept reading to see how it would end and I saw most of it coming. I didn't really like the ending but overall this was an entertaining story and I'm sure it will be popular.
This novel chronicles identical twins Iris and Summer, who -- along with their brother Ben, their father's other wives and their and step-sisters -- are involved in the competition to inherit their father's vast estate. The winner will be the first of their father's children to give birth to an heir to the Carmichael fortune. The story has lots of backstabbing, a decent amount of twists and turns, and fast pacing, and it definitely had me turning pages. However, even though I was engaged in reading and trying to figure out what would happen next, I found some of the plot line pretty unbelievable and the ending somewhat far-fetched. The story as a whole was well told, nonetheless, and I will surely give Rose Carlyle's next work a shot.
Twins who couldn’t be more different in personality but are identical in looks to where family can’t even tell them apart. One twin kills the other to take over her life. Was it an accident? After all, there is an inheritance at stake. This book is straight up crazy gone girl style. If will have you guessing until the last page. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
"Twin sisters Iris and Summer are startlingly alike, but beyond what the eye can see lies a darkness that sets them apart. Cynical and insecure, Iris has long been envious of Summer’s seemingly never-ending good fortune, including her perfect husband Adam." Who can resist a description like that? This debut novel by Rose Carlyle is fast paced and keeps you guessing. I thought I had it figured out, but the twists kept coming.
Iris and Summer are mirror images of each other. Summer is the twin that "has it all" beauty a new husband, Adam. Summer asks Iris' help to sail to sail the family yacht in the Indian Ocean. I don't want to get into the plot and spoil it for readers. Some of you may remember a television series, Ringer, with Sarah Michelle Gellar, having the same premise. I will say this is a must read, you will not be able to put it down. The author does an excellent job of delving into the dynamics of twins, the love/hate/envy feelings.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.
The novel was suspenseful with an interesting twist at the end, but nevertheless the ending left one major question unanswered. How will she deal with her husband, after knowing the truth about everything? The plot dealing with identical twins was intriguing and held my interest though you had to suspend disbelief to enjoy it.
Holy moly, did I ever enjoy this book. I was a bit worried at the beginning with all of the sailing jargon, but once I got into the meat of the novel, I couldn’t put it down!! Such a perfect twist as well- everything was woven together perfectly.
Talk about a holy s%$& what the hell did I just read book! Iris and Summer are twins. Iris has adored her sister for as long as she can remember, so when Summer calls her and asks her to come to Thailand to sail their father's yacht to Seychelles. Iris and Summer set out on the yacht, but then Summer goes missing. when Iris finally gets the yacht back to Seychelles, she is mistaken by Summer's husband to be Summer. From there, this story just spiraled out of control--in an absolutely fabulous way! I can see why people are saying the ending is "mind-blowing," because as I was reading the last chapter and I was thinking, "What? Wait...WHAT?" There were numerous "gotcha" moments, some maybe that could be seen coming, but a couple that left me saying, "HOLY S%&^." I loved this book, and cannot wait to read more from Rose Carlyle!
Messed up to the best degree. Sometimes mystery/thrillers that are a hot mess of horrible characters with the worst intentions are the easiest to read. Iris and Summer are twins and on a cross country yacht sail. Iris wakes up one morning with Summer gone. Iris assumes the worst, believes her sister to be dead and takes over her life because Summer was the twin with the together life and closest to receiving the family inheritance. Poor Iris, she's quickly in over her head. Fast-paced because each chapter brings you closer to the truth and that's something the reader really wants to know.
Who can resist a book about twins....especially when one may be good and the other evil? Not me! I've always been fascinated by twins because my Mom was an identical twin! The Girl in The Mirror by Rose Carlyle does not disappoint. After a slow start, the book becomes fast paced, chilling, and edge of your seat suspenseful. Who is the good twin Summer Rose or Iris? We don't find out until the very last page which twin will prevail! I loved this book in spite of the slow start! Great Read! Thank you NetGalley and The Book Club Girls for the ARC!
Thank you Netgallery for this ARC. I was very interested in it based on the summary about twin sisters and the family drama over money.. I enjoyed the suspense but felt it was too predictable and unbelievable at times, but still it kept my interest to see what would happen next.
Twins with a twist? YES PLEASE!!!!!
Iris and Summer are identical mirror twins. Yes, thats a thing. I learned something.
'Mirror image’ twins happens when the eggs split later , and if the twins were to face one another they are mirror image of each other, well on the outside.
You know that expression, good twin, evil twin? This books gives that a brand new meaning!
Iris has spent her life being jealous of her twin's "perfect" life. How far would she go to have it?
This is a fantastic debut novel from Rose Carlyle. The characters are complex and well written.
Oh and the twists keep coming but that last twist OMG, my jaw was on the floor!
The plot is intricate and well developed. A page turner that was
The Girl in the Mirror is an exciting psychological thriller about identical twin sisters. I really enjoyed this book and trying to figure out all the crazy twists before they came! The sisters' relationship and mysteries surrounding it were intriguing, and I found the descriptions and character development of Iris and Summer very well thought out. I definitely did not have this one figured out early, and it is one of the more enjoyable suspense books I have read recently!
I am so impressed by this debut by @rosecarlyle100 and I can not wait to read more from her.
Please do yourself a favor and go into this one as blind as possible. I read a couple reviews/synopsis before reading this one and ended up spoiled by comparisons I read. Because of that, I was able to guess one of the main twists fairly easily. Not sure if I would have guessed otherwise.
I loved this one, such an atmospheric read as parts of this story take place in Australia, and there are lots of awesome sailing scenes. This book did such a good job of making me feel tense while reading it, this book will definately take you along for a ride. The thing I will remember the most about this book was the ending, I can't decide if I loved it or hated it. But it is defintely something I will remember, and I love when authors take chances and come up with crazy endings.
If you are looking for a fast paced, entertaining, glamourous book, with a memorable ending. This one is for you!
Thank you to William Morrow for providing me with my ARC.
Summer and Iris are mirror twins. Identical on the outside, their internal organs are on opposite sides of the body. Summer was the first born and was always the favored twin. Her looks and her marriage are perfect and Iris has always been jealous, though still loves her sister. When their father died, his will stipulated that his fortune would go to his child who produced the first legitimate heir. While Summer will not be swayed by her father’s will, it is a race that Iris takes seriously.
When Summer’s step-son is hospitalized in Indonesia she asks Iris to sail their boat Bathsheba back to Africa with Adam, Summer’s husband. At the last minute, Summer decides to go with Iris. During the voyage an accident to Summer’s watch sends her overboard. Even though Iris searches, she is lost at sea. Stepping into Summer’s shoes she is able to fool Adam and the authorities. Her problem is that Summer was pregnant. It is imperative that she seduce Adam.
Iris is not an easy character to warm to. Her obsession with her father’s will and the race to become pregnant before her sister and step-sisters directs everything she does. Her step-mother is even more obsessive and is willing to push her daughter into a marriage at sixteen to beat Iris or Summer. As the story reaches its’ conclusion there is a twist that will leave you speechless. I would like to thank NetGalley and Harper Collins for allowing my review of this book.
The Girl in the Mirror is a fast-paced, twisty thriller about a set of mirror twins. Summer has always seemed to have it all and Iris has always been jealous. When Summer asks Iris to help sail the family yacht to the Seychelles, everything will change. Summer goes missing and Iris jumps at the chance to finally get what she’s always wanted. When Summer’s husband Adam assumes Iris is Summer, she goes with it. And it doesn’t help matters that there is a hundred million dollar inheritance (from their dead dad) for the first of their siblings to produce an heir. This just moved Iris closer to that inheritance. Can Iris convince everyone she’s Summer? And what did happen to Summer on that boat? Filled with plenty of twists, secrets, and suspense, this is a fun thriller to check out. The writing is engaging. Highly recommended!
Twin sisters, Summer and Iris, are mirror images of each other. Alike in so many ways and yet different in personality. When their father died he left a stipulation in his will that the first of his children to have a child born in wedlock will win the Carmichael fortune worth millions but until then no one receives anything.

The yacht needs to be sailed back to Seychelles and Summer can’t do it alone and Adam must stay with his sick child in Thailand. Iris has always loved the yacht and agrees to help. The sisters take turns at the helm. When Iris wakes up, later than she should have, Summer is nowhere to be found. She searches for days but Summer is gone. When she finally gets to Seychelles, Adam immediately mistakes Iris for Summer and Iris gets sweep up in the mistake. Not only does Iris finally get to have the golden life she thinks Summer had had but she gets one step closer to the hundred-million-dollar inheritance. If she can just convince everyone that she is really Summer.
This story is a twisted, thrilling ride. The characters are well written and the story is very entertaining. The last few paragraphs of the book are jaw dropping, I had to read it again because I couldn’t believe the surprise ending. Great read!
The Girl in the Mirror is a great suspense novel about mirror twin sisters, Summer and Iris. Their father’s will sets their family up to be divided over the first grandchild. As the story unfolds one sister is forced to pretend to be the other and it becomes hard to know what’s real and what isn’t. This story definitely keeps you guessing right up u til the last page. I could t put it down and would recommend to anyone that enjoys suspense books.
