The stories main character is Dolly, an innocent young girl whose father has recently died and her brother (Ted) is presumed dead in the war. She is determined to be independent and travels to Sydney to work as a maid in a boarding house.
At the boarding house she finds her childhood friend (Jack) and realizes that the boarding house is a brothel. Mrs. Mack co-owner of the brothel hears her sing and offers her the opportunity to sing for the guests.. While singing she recognizes her brother in the audience.
Even though this is a historical romance it is also a mystery . A short read with well developed characters and story line. Would definitely recommend this book and author.
I received this book for a review from Net Galley.
I received this from Netgalley.com.
"In the aftermath of World War I, Sydney, Australia. Dolly Bowman, ready to risk everything in pursuit of her dreams. After all it's the 1920s - time to turn her back on her terrible childhood and search for her future."
I would consider this a quick, mindless beach read. There's not a lot of depth to the characters and the plot was predictable.

Enjoyed the book especially as it was based in Australia. Loved how it showed the slum and sleazy side instead of always a posh side. Gritty and kept me reading
Review on The House on Boundary Street, great read, enjoyed the mental visions of Sydney especially around the Cross and the Rocks, encouraged by way of the writer. The story was enthralling to the last sentence. Showing Sydney's sleazy side during those early years. Th pe author painted a great picture thoroughly enjoyed this story
