Girl with Three Eyes by Priya Ardis
Rating: ★★★☆☆
Girl with Three Eyes by Priya Ardis caught my interest with its cool use of Hindu lore, which added a neat twist to the story. Beyond that, though, it felt pretty average and typical for a YA novel. I liked diving into the Hindu mythology part—it gave the story a unique flavor and made the world feel richer. But overall, the plot and characters felt kinda familiar, following the usual YA tropes without bringing much new to the table. The main character had her moments, but it didn't really stick with me afterward.
In a nutshell, Girl with Three Eyes is a decent read if you're into exploring different mythologies, but it might not blow you away if you're looking for something super fresh in YA fiction.
I loved the infusion of Hindu lore and female power into an otherwise bland concept of the typical Harry Potter story. That made this book sparkle, and along with the constant twists and turns, I thoroughly enjoyed this read.
I was hoping I'd enjoy this book but I just realized that this genre does not work for me. I am sure someone else would enjoy it if they are a fan of the genre.
This was a pretty cool fantasy read but that's not really up my alley anymore so I would not read more.
This was a cute and charming fairy tale! The story was very fast-paced! It was also a quick and easy read! Kira was a very strong heroine! I thought this story reads like a middle grade! Still, I recommend this for fans of Ella Enchanted, Sleeping Beauty’s Sister, and The Wide-Awake Princess!
I found this to be an enjoyable read, keeping me on my toes throughout. The storyline was written well and flowed seamlessly. I look forward to reading more by this author!
Can I just mention how gorgeous the cover is and how it fits the story perfectly? Anyway, there was a lot going on in the story, I am not certain exactly how to classify the genre of the book. There were science fiction aspects to the story with futuristic technology such as a complicated snowboarding boards and ramps. But then it was also very fantasy with magical beings with third eyes, but then there was a royal family, knights and jousting (on a snowboard like thing) which made it feel almost historical. At times I was a little lost with the world building and the amount of details, making me disengage from the story at times.
The book overall had a kind of Harry Potter vibe to it with an orphan child, a boarding school and kids getting sorted into houses (with each house having an animal represent it) based on personality and achievement. There students receive rewards for good deeds and achievements and there is a very popular sport that all the school gets involved in, be it playing or cheering. My favorite part of the story was the found family, where the main character collects the best of people along the way and creates her own support system, with bickering and crushes included. and the ending of the book reminded me so much of the warm fuzzy feeling I get at the end of each HP potter book where the school year might be over but the headmaster and all the classmates reward your hard work (while being injured in a hospital wing).
And speaking of endings, this wrapped up satisfying enough while at the same time hooking my interest with all the loose ends and hints at what is to come. This is most certainly a series and I will look forward to the next book to come out. Girl With Three Eyes is the perfect choice for fans of fantasy, high stress situations be it extreme sporting or dangerous encounters, found families and court politics
Girl With Three Eyes was a fast paced YA fantasy novel with Hindu cultural influences.
The plot was fun, with our protagonist, Kira, learning to use the power of her third eye, and becoming the bodyguard of a lord’s son at a prestigious boarding school.
The main character is around 14, so this book sits on the younger side of YA. The worldbuilding wasn’t as developed as I would have liked. For example, there was a heavy emphasis on sport, but I wasn’t clear about how it worked. The romance was cute, and I enjoyed the fairytale aspects of the story.
On the whole, a decent, quick read.
The plot really got me, I was excited to read this one, but I cannot finishing it.
It wasn’t my cup of tea.
I was in a reading slump before reading this book, and this took me right of it! the first two chapters were kind of slow, but after that, the pacing really picked up in a moderate way that fit the direction and storytelling of this book! I loved our main character, Kira, and following her was such a fun fantastical adventure!!
I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I am surprised to see all the back and forth reviews on this book. I thought it was absolutely wonderful. Very suspenseful and mysterious.
Thank you kindly to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for this review copy.
I felt like this was going to be a fun and different book, but it wasn't as much as I wanted it to be. The whole inspiriation behind the plot was really interesting, but the execution of it made the reading not that enjoyable. The characters were different from what I was used to, but some tropes used weren't really fitting the story or could've been done better, The ending was satisfying though.
THIS WAS JUST SO GOOD!
I thought it was going to be meh and boring at best, because i felt like the start was just boring? But i did continue and boy, did i get told! It was so good!! Kira have a massive character development where she embraces her third eye, where she finds friends and understands that some are indeed evil but some aren`t. Not going to spoil you on that one - you`ll figure it out for yourself. Hehe. I kind of adored the friendship with Trace, he went from snotty - to nice - to snotty - to nice again. But still, he grew as well as a character and supported and helped Kira along the way. The storybuilding was incredible and i could almost feel like i was there, if i closed my eyes i would be in the moment. It was that good.
I look forward to the next book and it`s curveballs!
This book was adorable. The characters were around 14, and they were so pure. *coos* They had little crushes instead of possessive and obsessive stuff, the romance aspect was very lighthearted. I loved this, especially since it's something I haven't read for so long.
I love the diverse aspect of this, Hindu culture was very much ingrained in the world, and I LOVED how the girls were the ones who took care of everything, instead of the men, I feel like this really needs to be showcased to younger audiences when the Middle Grade genre is so full of the men usually being the 'strong' characters.
Heartbreak, Danger, Cute Fluffy Love. What else is there to adore.
I found this reminded me of a Hindu Harry Potter (Quidditch = Snowboarding Games, The Chosen One Trope) Would def. recommend if you're looking for some childhood nostalgia.
3 stars, maybe 3.5?
This was a solid read and I really enjoyed it. I will say this felt more like a middle grade book rather than young adult. So I think tweens would enjoy this more. I haven't read many boarding school books but I know that its a popular trope. I have mostly missed out on books like it and It was fun to read one. The characters are okay and I don't really find the romance between Kira and Ajay engaging. I feel mixed about Kira's dad and his change of heart. I thought the ending was interesting and whenever the sequel comes out I'll be excited to read it.
I really enjoyed this book! While I am still a bit disturbed by the fact that the main character has a literal third eye in the middle of her forehead, I really enjoyed the rest of the story. I thought the plot and the romance were well-executed and fun to read. I am definitely excited to see more of this author!
Whilst this book was really good, there were times where it didn't flow and it got a bit confusing at points. It also felt like some plot points were forced and weren't given the opportunity to develop, I had such high hopes for this book. It's a solid 3-star read but I really wanted it to be better.
I loved the Hindi culture that blends in with this book and it does feel like more middle school/YA. This book is perfect for tweens!
I really appreciated the fairytale aspect of the book, I enjoyed it, but overall didn't love it. It might be because I'm a romance reader, but the love story didn't convince me.
i loved the fairy tale use in this book, the characters were great and I enjoyed reading this book. The plot was awesome and I would love more from this series.
