Yes. This was perfect. We need to be talking to our kids about climate change and the impact on the environment when they’re young. I remember “save the whales”, “turn off the water when you brush your teeth” and “reduce, reuse, recycle” because I was taught them young. This book is a great way to talk to your kids in simple easy to understand language.
This is an excellent way to explain climate change. It describes the atmosphere as a blanket around the sun, and what too thin a blanket, or too thick a blanket can do to a planet. The story is simple, easy to understand, and an allegory that works for younger kids.
I love the "for Babies" series by Chris Ferrie. I was in school for Neuroscience when I discovered I was pregnant, and in that first month I had purchased the first 3 for my growing kiddo(Quantum Physics, ABCs of Science and Rocket Science). The complex scientific and mathematical concepts are broken down into extremely digestible content for both child and adult alike! The pictures are colorful, clearly labeled and ideal for learning such extreme topics that really set the base of even more complex ideas, problem solving and situations.
I found this title, Climate Change, to be a little grim. I understand it is, certainly, a grim topic. And if nothing changes, a grim result. But after reading it through twice I was hesitant to read it to my 4 year old, as I continually wanted to add and correct with my own positive disclaimers. I feel like it may be too young a book, for too old an audience. Or simply a less positive book for a young audience. Regardless, the information is great, honest and useful and the illustrations are wonderful. I look forward to each books in this series, even as my little guy grows a bit older.
I very much appreciate the opportunity to read and review this title. I was provided with a free pre-publication copy through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I am always impressed by how Chris Ferrie and the rest of his team manage to take complex topics and break them down so even a baby can understand it.
In this case I appreciate how they show the earth, our home planet, as a huge ball wrapped in a blanket called atmosphere. They compare our blanket to those of Mercury and Mars. They explain how we keep our blanket balanced, and how we humans have managed to get ours out of balance so it is getting too hot.
What I especially appreciate is that while they show us the problem, they also show us solutions.
This would be a brilliant introduction to climate change for readers of all ages. Older readers can go on to read more complicated texts about climate change with this simple one providing an overarching framework.
Climate Change is about the changing climate, but for babies! It is an adorable way to explain the way our atmosphere is in danger. The illustrations are great and help understand the way Earth is "feeling". It also comes with helpful tips on how to help our atmosphere improve and make Earth start to "feel better". I love this book and hope it will help little ones learn about climate change.
Climate Change for Babies makes the basics of climate change super easy to understand no matter your age! Very cute illustrations, and not heavy topic wise. A must have for library collections!
Great book for all readers to ponder and discuss the basics of climate change. Bright, clear, and simple illustrations enable readers to better understand this topic. This book is a discussion tool for introducing the importance of this topic at a young age. Great for all readers!
I LOVE this series of board books, and this one is particularly wonderful. Like the rest in the series, the text and illustrations really are geared towards babies, and it contains surprisingly complex scientific information. Kids AND adults will learn something from this book. I love the comparison between the atmosphere and a blanket.
You can tell that a lot of thought went into every word of this book.
Simple, cute and informative.A good source to provide basic information about climate.Preschool libraries should add this book in their lists
Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I liked the simple explanation provided in this storybook about climate change and how it's affecting our earth. The illustrations are a little too simple for the readers age group but it gets the point across.
I love the other books in this series and this one did not fail me. It was cute and informative. This is a must have for all library collections.
