This novel is a captivating exploration into the lives of three women who, unbeknownst to them, share a common connection in the form of Mr. Wright- they're all in a relationship with him.
As each woman's narrative unfolds, an unexpected twist emerges when they realize their shared connection to Mr. Wright. The convergence of their stories becomes a source of fascination, as the truths of Mr. Wright's falsehoods unravels their lives.
This is a quick, fun and entertaining read.
We start off with Lark, who is an a hotel bar. She is in town to pitch her idea for a board game. Here, she meets a man named Trip. This is the beginning of their relationship. Then, we meet Jessica and her boyfriend Jon, as they move into their Chicago apartment together. He is also her new boss. Next up is Holly, who is a pediatrician, who also runs a horse rescue. Her Husband Jack has been distant lately and traveling a lot. Trip, Jon, and Jack are all the same man.
This one didn't really do it for me. The beginning was super slow, and I feel the book could have been shorter. It didn't really pick up for me until the last 75% or so, but the last 25% did hold my interest until I finished it.
As the reader, I did like catching him in his lies. I also liked watching his ruse unravel. This book did pull emotion out of me. Mostly anger because this "man" sucks. I did like the one chapter at the end where we get his POV. He deserved everything he got. He actually deserved more than what he got in my opinion.
Thank you to NetGalley for an eArc in exchange for an honest review.
Really enjoyed this book! I have had it on my Kindle for a long time and am happy I finally picked it up. I loved the mystery and how the three separate stories started intertwining as secrets were revealed! I enjoyed the three POVs and the POV we got from Mr. Wright - who ended up being Mr. WRONG!
Okay, so I thought this was going to be some kind of a thriller - don't know why - and it wasn't. And, honestly, I'd say that it wasn't going to be my kind of book...but then I really enjoyed it!
Our Mr. was SUCH a manipulator, our Mrs(s) were really nice women and not door mats.
And I simply love the way they handled things in the end.
It ended up being a very good read!
If you’re looking for a soapy fiction novel that is (bonus!) available on Kindle Unlimited, then this is your next read. No shocking twists, but definitely a fun, breezy read.
The Plot
Lark is about to be forced to give up on her life’s dream of being a board-game developer when she is in Buffalo for a pitch meeting with investors and has a one night stand with the handsome Tripp Mitchell. After a whirlwind date to Niagara Falls, Tripp flies to visit her in LA and offers to fund her game himself and help her establish her own board game company, Larkspur.
Jessica has followed her life plan to a T—ivy league education, followed by medical school, and then meet the perfect husband. She is just now checking the last box with the handsome Jonathan Wright, her fiancé and the owner of a start-up developing technology to detect childhood cancer before diagnosis. Jessica is thrilled to move to Chicago and work for Jonathan’s company, but they have to keep their relationship under wraps at work until his messy divorce is final.
Holly is known proudly as the Barrington Hills Horse Lady. She owns a charity dedicated to support horse rescue and adoption, has her own stable, a successful private medical practice, and three lovely children. Her life would be nearly perfect, if only her husband Jack didn’t continue to have affairs right under her nose. Holly has resigned herself to her marriage to a man who doesn’t respect their vows, until she learns that he has escalated with his most recent love interest and hired her to his company.
Three women, three relationships, but only one Mr. Wright. If only the three can set aside their pain and work together to take him down once and for all… But Jonathan M. Wright III didn’t become who he is through a lack of wits and charm. Who will win, Mr. Wright or the three Mrs. Wrights?
Review
I wouldn’t call this a psychological thriller in the traditional sense, I would consider this book to be more of a women’s fiction with dramatic suspense. The reader knows from the beginning that all three women are in relationships with the same man, so there isn’t a twist that pulls that card on the reader. Instead, this is the story of a man who is an absolutely brilliant liar and manipulator, and the three women he is using until they catch onto his game.
What I liked…
Even though the book starts with the three women being somewhat (or fully) in the dark about Mr. Wright’s true nature, the story quickly becomes one of female empowerment. Holly should be the most to blame since she has been aware of (and looked the other way from) her husband’s affairs for many years, but somehow she comes across as a strong, poised, and philanthropic woman who is taking the emotional burden of her marital issues on herself to give her kids the life and family she wants them to have. Holly is without question the most savvy of the three women.
I also liked that there was a sort of Theranos-like plot involving Mr. Wright’s company with Jessica at the helm. While Jessica was the hardest for me to connect with as a character, I liked that her story was less about her relationship woes, and more about her figuring out what her boss and fiancé was up to at work including potentially defrauding their investors. Jessica is someone with a life plan that she derailed when she met Jon. She is the weak, nerdy doctor her thinks, though. In fact, Jessica begins to suspect something is up at work much sooner than in her relationship, and I liked that it was clear immediately he picked the wrong woman to mess with.
What didn’t work
Lark was the hardest to fit into the story for me, because I wasn’t as clear why Tripp / Mr. Wright would bother with the engagement and investment in a board game company that didn’t seem to fit into his broader life. I was even more surprised and befuddled when he proposes to her. I felt that Lark’s story and connection to the broader narrative was the weakest point of the book, and I kept wanting her chapters to move on so I could get back to Holly and Jessica’s stories.
The book begins with Lark meeting Tripp and their one-night-stand so I almost wonder if the story (and book) would have worked better if the teaser didn’t give away that it was three women marrying the same man upfront. It would have been quite a twist if we saw more of Lark’s story play out with Tripp buying her the office space in LA and founding her company, and then moved back in time to learn that he had two other women he was married or engaged to. That would have been a jaw-dropping moment that would have made the story more compelling.
Ending
Nothing ground breaking with the ending of this book, as it is pretty clear from the start that this will be the story of the three women finding out about what is going on. The big intrigue to me is the Thereanos-esque fraud plot that Jessica is unraveling, compounded by her learning that Jon / Mr. Wright is definitely not divorcing his wife. While the book itself is a lot of fun, I did think the ending was drier than I anticipated.
This is such a fun storyline! A quick read that you read in a day and move on to the next book without a book hangover. This was a fun read.
I had high hopes for reading Mrs. Wrights after viewing the synopsis. However; I am unable to read this book as I cannot find it at my library.
The Three Mrs. Wrights by Linda Keir is a fascinating look into the lives of three women who unknowingly all have one thing in common—Mr. Wright. In this novel, readers follow the journeys of Lark, Jessica, and Holly as they each deal with their relationships with the deceptive Mr. Wright.
Lark is a successful board-game designer and recently entered a whirlwind romance with Mr. Wright. Jessica is invited to join Mr. Wright’s medical start-up and they become partners in and outside of the office. Holly, who has been married to her husband Jack for nearly 20 years, finds her marriage with him becoming complicated and not what it seems.
Each woman's story takes an unexpected twist when they realize that they all have the same man in common—Mr. Wright. It is fascinating to see how their stories all intersect with one another and how the revelation of Mr. Wright’s lies unravels their respective worlds.
The Three Mrs. Wrights is an incredibly captivating novel that weaves a web of lies and deception with elements of romance. It is a captivating look into the lives of these three women and the heartbreaking events that led them to the same person.
I could not get into this book, sorry. Trying to clean up my netgalley. Didn’t realize that I was forgetting to leave reviews on netgalley itself, My apologies.
This was fine. It was a easy quick read. Not a lot happening but a mess when it did. Might would be an interesting thing in TV.
I sadly was unable to finish this book because I struggled so much to connect to the story, characters, and kept putting this down. I was extremely disinterested in all content and tried this in ebook and audio but had to officially DNF it.
I am sorry for the inconvenience but I don’t have the time to read this anymore and have lost interest in the concept. I believe that it would benefit your book more if I did not skim your book and write a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for the inconvenience.
So good! "The Three Mrs. Wrights" by Linda Keir is a juicy, suspenseful, enjoyable novel. As Mr. Wright juggles three very different, fabulous relationships while running several high stakes businesses, his brilliant ladies have their own plans.. Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the review copy. All opinions are my own.
hank You to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for this ARC!!
Lark, Jessica, and Holly. Three smart, capable and beautiful women. They are the perfect strangers with so much in common that it hurts.
The charming Mr. Wright’s serial lies are about to catch up with him…..
This was an unique story!! Mr Wright highly underestimates the smartness of the three women he tries to take advantage of, to lead to his downfall and become Mr Wrong. I liked the way the book was written in alternating chapters to show each of the woman's perspectives.
This wasn’t a typical mystery book but it had enough suspense to keep me hooked on and a satisfying ending.
Absolutely loved this book. It swept me along and I really wanted to find out how the three women came to be aware of each other and what would happen then. Great characters and plot. Loved the twist at the end.
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. Love the cover! I enjoyed this book. Perfect for a mystery/suspense type genre. It is kind of hard to pin point a exact genre.
What an A$$!!
I enjoyed this book but wanted to strangle Jon/Jack/Trip every page turn! I liked how each story was told and how things came to an end. Overall a decent & fast read. Definitely knew where it was headed, but still a good storyline. Probably a 3.5 star review as it was super predictable.
Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read this one early!
While the story line may not be exactly original, Linda Keir's treatment definitely is! So many of us would say "He'd never be able to fool me", but these three women are smart, confident and independent. So how? The story unfolds as if you were reading it in the newspaper, watching it on tv, happening to real people you know. It held my focus throughout a day I had not dedicated to reading, but oh well. When the three stories merge, it's a really entertaining picture running through your head. It's definitely a treat yourself read.
3.75 stars. I enjoyed this book. There were no major twists, but it was interesting to see how things unfolded along the way. I particularly enjoyed how the chapters were by point of view, but the various points of views were joined as things progressed through the novel. I think it ended pretty abruptly though. I wish there had been more of a detailed ending with a more impactful scene. I dont consider this a thrilling book, but it was a quick and compulsive book.
This book was such an unexpected delight - it was just so much fun to read. It was twisty & turny and I knew how it would end but I couldn't wait to see how it played out. I loved that this book leaned into the women's perspective and didn't make them out to be dumb or gullible - it was so well done and I'll be recommending to others.
