Take Princess Bride, mix in Terry Pratchett and you have this book.
Wacky, comical, sarcastic and with a tongue in cheek humour that had me giggling.
Several parts I had to highlight as the quotes were just fantastic.
The only problem is that it's not even released yet and I can't wait for the next one!
I loved it.

this was a really easy read that i think younger audiences would enjoy! the characters didn't undergo too much development which was disheartening, but was made up in the world-building and plot!

When I first started reading this book, I wasn’t sure if I would like it as the narration is very different; however the level of sarcasm for all characters and the narration made this story fantastic and the word play was on point.

This was not the book for me. I partially blame myself for judging a book by its cover but I also think that this was marketed to the wrong audience.
I feel like the author was a little too ambitious and was trying to do too many things which created a convoluted mess. I also felt that while the dialogue was meant to be banter and fun sarcasm, it came across as the annoying sarcasm that made you want to punch every character.
I really wished I liked it more and had something positive to say but I just don't.

Had to put this down, I tried to read it but haven’t been able to get into this book. From what I did read it was a funny and unique spin on a fantasy world. The writing read quite young but this may be my own problem. Unfortunately I will not pick this up again, or if I do it will be not be anytime soon.

I don't usually read middle grade, so maybe that's why this was such a miss for me. At first, the story captivated me and I wanted to read more of it, but as the story progressed, I realized that I'm actually not that interested. My disinterest in continuing this has probably more to do with me rather than with this book, but there were some things that contributed, such as lack of character development.

3/3.5 stars.
An amusing take on the every day fairy tale, with wit abound. I think that this will really appeal to those looking for a comedic take on the typical cursed princess story, I struggled a little with the storytelling - it is well written - I just found that the emphasis leaned more on the funny and less on the world building or the characters. There are so many different elements to this story, and I was really interested in the revolutionary side of it, but it got very little mention, and was wrapped around comedic happenstance.
Good for a giggle, but if you're looking for an in depth plot and multi dimensional characters, you may find it slightly lacking.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
How To Break an Evil Curse invites us to Fritillary, a land where the princess has been cursed by an Evil Wizard. If Princess Julianna ever had sunlight touch her skin she will instantly die, unless her parents can find the counter curse in a highly unprobable young man who must meet very specific and strange criteria. When such a lad is found, will Julianna finally have her time in the sun? Or will the Evil Wizard, Farland get his ultimate revenge by killing this boy before there is a chance to break the curse?
This novel has alot to unpack so bear with me. And by alot, I mean it has pretty much every fantasy piece thrown into a giant crock pot and left to simmer a bit too long. There is Wizards, evil twins, pirates, ghosts, a revolution, a strange magical item, a forest of bandits, a locked away and ignorant princess, a secret society, a theater troupe, a woman doctor no one takes seriously, mistaken identity, and so much more. I know I'm forgetting something, perhaps it will come to me when I'm writing this. Julianna is actually a pretty great character, she is everything you could want in a fantasy princess. Smart, resourceful, a bit naive after being locked away for her life, not prideful or boastful, and one heck of a tunnel digger. Warren, her counter curse really isn't more than a wet blanket and the poor guy spends his time being a punching bag for anyone and everyone. Seriously, the guy suffers at least two concussions, a broken arm, many scrapes and bruises, and is stabbed all in this one novel.
There is just too much going on in this novel. If about 1/3 of the plot lines that go no where were edited out(hello, raven blood, and brainwashing scheme) we would be better for it. As it stands the while book is very distracting from itself! Also, I have a gripe. Moonlight is just sunlight reflected off the moon's surface so the plotline of Julianna going out at night seems like it would be just as dangerous or atleast harmful or sickening for her. Maybe I'm reading too far into it, but I was pretty distracted by all the plotlines.
Overall this is a decent read, one that I would recommend for people who like very sarcastic books and can handle the plot jumping around multiple times per chapter to things that hadn't been referenced in over 100 pages. It just wasn't for me, but perhaps it will find it's perfect audience. Let me know what your thoughts are!

Oh, take a fairytale, add a bunch of humor, an evil curse, secrets, ghosts, and mix it all up and you get How to Break an Evil Curse by Laura Morrison! This book was full of funny moments and I quite enjoyed reading it. It was an easy and quick read. There were a couple of moments where I caught myself going "huh?" but overall it was fun. This book is catered more towards a younger audience. I wouldn't say Middle Grade, it is definitely YA, but a younger YA audience. Of course, if you just want to take a light-hearted look into fairytales, and some of the ridiculous things that go on in them, then this book will be a book for you. I feel that Morrison takes all the "normal" fairytale stuff, and turns it around to show the reader the absolute humor in the themes and tropes. Overall, it was a good read and it was enjoyable.

I enjoyed the narrator, and felt like this was a pretty solid book. It had comedic undertones and the backgroundI information really helped with catching the vibe of the whole story. For me, who reads for the sake of character interaction, the characters lacked depth. So many characters were mixed in there, only for the sake of 'being there' and it hindered the plot, to the point where it felt like dragging my feet upon something. I didn't really care for the characters.
Although the aspects that I did enjoy was the intriguing banished villain, I did enjoy starting off at that. It captivated me, and hooked my attention. It was funny, and felt... quite like a parody. Not bad. Just not for me.

How to Break an Evil Curse would be a great first book for a younger reader just getting interested in SFF - the characters are fun, the narrator provides witty commentary, and the story progresses as you would expect. That being said, the silliness could be overpowering for an older reader or one that is accustomed to more traditional writing. Definitely an easy read, I would have no qualms recommending this book to almost any younger reader, or even as a class-room read along.

I thought this book was interesting but something about it kept throwing me off. I had to put it down a few times to get through it and I had to take notes to keep track of the story. Overall a decent book though!

Unfortunately, this book was not for me. Maybe I'm just not that into typical ya fantasy anymore? It was just irritating to read from the main character and I had a hard time connecting to the story and writing style. I would probably have loved this book when I was younger, tho!

I really wanted to like this book but unfortunately I could not get into it. I do not think this was the one for me. The premise was super interesting, but towards the end to me it just fell apart. I had not realized that this was middle grade and I did not connect with the story at all.

Im sorry to say I couldnt get into this book I never finished its. The idea was so interesting but its just didnt live up to its. But I love the cover.

This was an excellent book! With a riveting plot, and detailed - and realistic - character development, you will definitely enjoy reading this title!

This book started out as everything I could want. Three chapters in, I was loving it. Granted, the pacing was kind of wonky and the timeline kept slipping around, but there were sarcastic sisters, wicked wizards, and (to break from the alliteration) rather dumb princes. The dialogue was hilarious, and the narrator's voice was wonderfully quirky.
And then that's about where everything stalled.
We were then stuck with a princess who lives in a basement because she was cursed with dying as soon as she saw the sun's light. Her only friends are ghosts and she drugs her nursemaid so that she can dig a tunnel to escape.
I continued to try to read it, but the lack of plot and character development drove me crazy. I started this book thinking it was about a crazy sister and a crazy ex-best-friend to the prince/king trying to overthrow the kingdom but then got stuck in a basement with a teenager who's the embodiment of unsocialized.

I really enjoyed this book! It was a very funny action/fantasy kind of book.
I like all the different characters in the story. I thought it was interesting how the author would switch from different points of views of even minor characters. It just made the book that much more interesting. I thought the different characters were all very unique and it makes me wonder where they will end up. I thought the ending was very weird, but it fit the book well. I also enjoyed how there were footnotes at the bottom of some of the pages.
The only thing I didn’t like about this book is that it got a little boring pr slow at some parts. It also made some of the characters seem very dumb and unable to do things at some points and I thought that was a little weird. I would’ve liked to see a little more of a few of the characters, but maybe they will show up more in other books.
I recommend this to someone who just wants a light read that is funny and action packed. I’m excited to read the rest of the books when they come out!

What an amazing surprise! I honestly haven't expected to laugh so much reading this book. Such a pleasant surprise!
4 stars!

This was a fun, enjoyable story. There's a Princess and a Curse, and now she's in a dungeon because the sun will kill her. Also, she sees ghosts. It's quite an interesting mix, and I enjoyed it.
There were definitely some things that I didn't quite understand. I would go back sometimes to try and figure out what was going on but just gave up and kept going. Overall, I enjoyed it, and I think it's a good YA fairytale that readers will enjoy!
I was provided a gifted copy of this book for free. I am leaving my review voluntarily.
