A road trip, a snow storm and opposites attract carry this story! Part of a 12 book series, this book is a great quick read!
The Christmas Backup Plan by Lori Wilde is the perfect Christmas romance between Remington and Aria who have known each other since they were kids. Both are determined not to want a romance with the other. Too many family expectations, for one. Each of Remy's three brothers is married to one of Aria's sisters. Aria is a wedding planner who works for Remy's stepmother. She has a wedding out of town: actually her best friend, Olivia. The weather is going to be bad and Aria has a concussion (fell out of the loft in a barn-another story) and can't drive so Remy is selected. He's not happy. She's not happy. He's taciturn, cranky, overly organized. She's happy-go-lucky, perky and cheerful, and believes in the universe. She makes friends wherever she goes. Stuck in a car together for hours. What can go wrong?
This is everything a cowboy romance should be. Both reluctant. Both beyond attracted to one another. Both with a goal: his is to survive. Hers is . . . ? They are terrific characters, well written and strong on themselves. She is stubborn. She will. Not. Love. Him. No matter what. Lots of fun in this book. Lots of introspection. Not much of a plot, but who really needs that in a romance? It was a great way to spend an afternoon. Hot sex, funny interactions, plenty of angst. I recommend it.
I was invited to read a free ARC of The Christmas Backup Plan by Netgalley. All opinions and interpretations contained herein are solely my own. #netgalley #thechristmasbackupplan
A crossover from Twilight and Cupid Texas, that you don't want to miss. Remington is taking Aria, a wedding planner to Twilight for a wedding she is in charge of. They have known each other forever, but are total opposites. Remington always has a backup where Aria lives at the moment. Will will the magic of Christmas in Twilight capture another couple.
This was a book that I could not put down. Loved both of these characters, Loved how Aria helped Remi coming out of his shell. It was great seeing some previous characters. This is a stand alone even though part of series.
This book is more of a road trip book than a Christmas book, but it was really sweet! The enemies to lovers, forced proximity tropes worked really well for me. I really should explore more titles by this author, as I found myself enjoying it so much.

It’s Twilight, Texas! Lori Wilde gives us her twelfth adventure in her series. We find Remington Lockhart heading to meet with Vivi Lockhart, his stepmother. As she tries to keep control of her 2 year old twin sons, she has asked him to drive Aria Azalte to the latest wedding in Twilight where Aria’s best friend, Olivia will be getting married. Aria works for Vivi in her wedding planning business. As well as planning the wedding she will be attending as one of the bride’s maids. Olivia’s father is mayor of Twilight so this event is particularly important to Vivi. She needs Remington to drive Aria from Cupid,Texas to Twight as she will be needing help with set-up and arrangements. The problem with this situation is that she and Remington have never really gotten along well, especially since he has been back from his twelve year stint in the service. Although he is 3 years her senior, they have known each other most of their lives. Her father has managed the large ranch, the Silver Feather, where Remington and his 3 siblings have lived.
Aria also has 3 sisters who in the past years have fallen in love and married the 3 Lockhart brothers. Her sisters, mother, and grandmother believe that Remington and Aria should become a couple as they are destined to be together just as the other couples were. Heading out on this journey to the wedding will be a long ride with just the two of them in the car. Remington is a planner and Aria is an ‘off the top of her head’ manager. In addition, once they arrive in Twilight there will be 3 to 4 days of being together as well. Once on the road and within a few hours of arrival, the winds pick up, temperature drops and heavy rain turns to ice. They have to make do sharing the one hotel room available in Armadillo, Texas.
Not having read any of the Twilight books I was concerned that I would find it difficult to follow the characters and storyline. Not so, this is one that could be a stand alone but I really think now I will probably read the rest of the series this winter. I laughed and at times felt wistful at Remy and Ari’s past stories. I found The Christmas Backup Plan to be utterly delightful. Lori Wilde’s book will be released on October 27, 2020 by Avon Books of Harper Collins Publishing. It is a wonderfully entertaining rom/com that really should not be missed this holiday season. If you are an avid Lori Wilde reader or a rookie like I was, be sure to pick this one up!
I love a good Christmas romance and even though Lori Wilde is always hit or miss for me, I decided to give this one a try. I've read the first "Cupid, Texas" books before, but apparently this is part of a different series set in Twilight, even though both characters live in Cupid. So that was a bit confusing. But you don't have to read any of the other "Twilight, Texas" series to read this one and follow along easily. The book seemed to drag a bit too much for my liking. I did find myself rushing back to finish the book when I had about 5 chapters left, so it does pick back up in the end after a sluggish middle.
Aria is a carefree wedding planner who is an extrovert and everyone's best friend. Remy is the exact opposite. He was recently discharged from the Army after an accident while parachuting. So he's broody, a play-by-the-rules and always prepare kind of guy and he just so happens to dislike Aria. So this book starts out as an enemies-to-lovers book but once they get to know the person behind those personas, they really appreciate one another and become close.
The romance part was just okay. There seemed to be more physical attraction than a budding romance. I mean the author waxes poetic during the lovemaking scenes, so it seems like maybe there's love there (I honestly skimmed those since I became bored with the 10 page description written in a flowery way that didn't match the rest of the book). But they were both too closed-off and hesitant for me to really believe that they were in love. There's the whole weird 'humming' thing that is supposed to signal that they've met 'the one' but it wasn't backed up with action. So it was no surprise when they part ways after their Twilight trip and both continue on brooding.
Not sure why the word Christmas was included in the title other than the fact that Twilight really celebrates Christmas. So there were some carols and angel tree stuff mentioned. But Christmas itself is entirely skipped in the book since the MC's are not together. That was really disappointing since it missed that Christmas magic.
Although I didn't find the re-coupling very realistic given they were separate so often and weren't' communicating very well, it was incredibly sweet on Remy's part. I mean he really surprised me with that whole scene and I certainly swooned over his grand gesture. Granted, I think it should have been Aria making that gesture since she was the one running scared. The epilogue was cute and they get their HEA, complete with a cute pup.
Can a wild wedding planner and a sedate, former military man find true love? Do opposites attract? When you read this delightful, funny, honest novel you'll find the answer and be glad you did.
When a fall causes a concussion and Aria has a wedding to oversee for her best friend from college, Remington is chosen to drive her to the wedding destination as she's not cleared to drive.
The monkey wrench in the plan is that family legend says when you hear humming during a kiss you've found your soulmate. Her three sisters have found happily ever after with his half siblings and they're all convinced that Aria and Remington need to kiss. They decide to give it a try on their road trip and each hear the humming, but won't admit it. How they deal with the legend and each other makes for an interesting and revealing read.
I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinions.
Aria's three sisters and Remy's three brothers have all fallen in love with each other and married. Now everyone is waiting for them. But there's a problem. They don't get along. But thrown together on a trip to Twilight Texas things are about to change. Another great story by Lori Wilde.
I love Christmas romances, and I really enjoyed the first half of this one. It’s an enemies to lovers road trip story on the way to a wedding, what’s not to love? It even has the only one bed trope.
I liked the combination of the gruff wounded hero and the upbeat flighty heroine, as they had to learn to appreciate each other as they fell in love.
Where this book drags is once the wedding and romance part is over, they go home and are miserable for a long time, with some weird additions. We don’t even get to see Christmas Day. So that dropped this a bit for me.
I have not read others in the series, but this book still worked without that, and I would read another one. It just suffers from third act problems.
I received an advanced readers copy of this book from the publisher and Net Galley in return for a fair review.
I like Lori Wilde's series. You feel like you are a part of that town. This was a cute Christmas themed story about Remington and Aria. I enjoyed it
This is a cute enemies to lovers novel. Aria is a wedding planner on her way to work her good friend's wedding. Remington is corralled by his step-mother to drive her to the wedding 8 hours away. These two have nothing in common, although they have grown up together. If one says it is black the other says it is white. When a snowstorm forces them to spend the night at a motel before continuing on, passion flares. But conflicting values are still keeping them apart as they continue on their way.
I enjoyed this lighthearted look at two obstinate lovers. Remy was so stubborn and Aria so flighty that you knew there were going to be all kinds of roadblocks to their happiness. A scene or two at the end of the book didn't make sense if an HEA was to happen. It was wrapped up a bit too neatly. Still it was a fun light read for the holidays.
This is the 12th book in the Twilight Texas series. Let me just say I loved it. Remington (Remy) left the military after an accident where he lost two fingers. He is a firm believer in having a backup plan. Aria a wedding planner (who doesn't believe in backup plans) who is planning to give her best friend the best wedding ever. Things happen and Remy is tagged to drive Aria...a snow storm, a magic town, opposites attract and the fun begins. There are laughs, tears, angst, some PTSD, some family wo wo, plenty of hot steamy stuff all getting us to a very HEA.
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Happily Ever After Unpredictable Tear-jerker Easy-to-read Wonderful characters Entertaining Romantic Whimsical Witty Steamy Action-packed Great world building Page-turner
It’s a Christmas story. Her three sisters married his three brothers. Lori Wilde is the author. At this point, what more do you need to know? Romance is a certainty and you know it’s going to have great moments. And it so does. I think it’s just what the holidays need.
Great holiday read! The chemistry between the two was magical. I haven't read the previous books in the series, but it wasn't necessary to enjoy the story. No doubt my romance fans will enjoy this title!
The charming cover and book blurb is what drew me into The Christmas Backup Plan by Lori Wilde. I enjoyed the story, however, the pace was a little slow for my liking.
Aria is a wedding planner and Remington is an former Army Ranger trying to get his life back together after being injured six months ago. Due to a minor concussion, Remington gets roped into driving Aria to a very important holiday wedding. They share a spark that evolves into much more. In fact, they both hear a humming whenever they kiss, which typically means they have found their true soulmate.
This holiday read packs a bit of heat and the author does a terrific job of describing the sights and sounds of the holiday season.
Aria is a wedding planner, who is planning her best friend’s wedding. Remington was in the military but discharged after an accident. Remington is adrift, trying to figure out what to do next. Aria is fun loving, fly by the seat of pants. Remy (his nickname) is straight and narrow. Remy is volunteered to take Aria to her friend’s wedding because Aria has a concussion. Can these two get along? I enjoyed this story because its set at Christmastime. It has humor and romance. Everyone sees it but them because of a family tale of finding your true love. They try to fight it..The description of the towns decorated for Christmas made want to visit. Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins Publishers/Avon for the E-ARC. This is my own opinion.
This is the first book I think I have read by Lori WIlde. The storyline was great and I really enjoyed the two main characters, Aria & Remington, although sometimes I wanted to shake them & tell them to communicate with each other & quit trying to read the other person's mind. Remington has come back home after being in the military. He is one of the four Lockhart brothers. While stationed in Afghanistan, Remington went through a lot and lost part of his left hand. He came back somewhat uptight and wanted to make sure he had a plan for everything. Aria, on the other hand, is somewhat flighty and flies by the seat of her pants most of the time. They are a very unlikely couple but are thrown together when Remington has to drive Aria to a wedding because she has sustained a bump to her head. Aria is a wedding planner and Remington drives her to Twilight, Texas where things take a turn in their somewhat tumultuous relationship.
There are a few intimate scenes in this book that are somewhat graphic but overall I liked the story line. Thank you to the publisher, Avon and NetGalley, for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book. This is my honest and unbiased opinion of this book.
Loved this book. Especially Christmas themed books. Its Christmas time and aria is a party planner and is needing help. Remington is a military veteran who agrees to help. To hear more read the book
Thank you Avon books for granting my wish and allowing me to read and review The Christmas Backup Plan. I have been a fan of Lori Wilde for many years and have read many of her books. I also enjoy stories that take place during the holiday season. Usually, I am not a big fan of cowboy stories, but that changed after reading this book. So much so, that I downloaded the Christmas Dare that I can’t wait to read.
Aria and Remington are in double-trouble. You've got Cupid Texas and Twilight Texas stories coming together in this book. They can run from love but not very far obviously. Plus it's a Christmas and wedding love story. Twice the fun.
