First off, I requested this book not knowing that it was the second in this series and that was my mistake. I think I would have enjoyed this book more if I had read the first book because there are several references to the first book. Overall, it was okay, but not a series I think I'll continue.
I requested this read after liking the first book in the series and I liked this one too but unfortunately it was just wasn't very memorable and I think I prefer the first book - sadly it wasn't wasn't really for me overall.
A cute follow-up to the first book. The characters were likable enough it was just a bit too much insta-love and not a whole lot of interpersonal conflict. There was the outside 'mystery' conflict, but there wasn't any real struggle in the relationship.
This copy was removed from Netgalley before I had a chance to download or review. I appreciate the chance to gain access, but unfortunately I don't have much to say regarding the circumstances.
I loved the first book so much that when I saw there was a second book, I grabbed it.
Ben is a doctor who happens to be a vampire. He's happy being a doctor and researcher who is trying to find a cure for vampires sunlight problems but he's lonely too.
Nathan is a wolf shifter and still in college trying to get through the last year.
This book picks up directly after the first book when there was an explosion and Nathan got shot. Nathan ends up on the operating table of Dr. Ben and they flirt after he starts healing which was fast since he's a shifter. They make plans to see each other and stay in contact when they go back to their lives but it doesn't work out right away. Later when Nathan goes to find Ben and they make up for lost time and get closer. They both know they made mistakes and are determined not to let that happen again.
There are a few problems that arise because of the vampire-shifter relationship and because not everyone approves of that. But once they find their happy place and really get to know one another, things start moving smoothly and these two are so cute together. Of course there's some danger in the middle of all of this because something has to stop all the fun, but seriously it does get dangerous for both Nathan and Ben at one point and I held my breath waiting to see what would happen.
So far this series is so much fun and this is just the second book! I can't wait for more.
I really love some of the secondary characters and really hope we get Samuel's book at some point because even though the dude is scary, he's really interesting too.
Disclosure: I was given an ARC via NetGalley but all opinions and thoughts are my own.
A cute follow up . But was a little bit safer than book one. I will definitely look for the next book as the characters are very likeable.
Forbidden Love – They Bite #2 by Lee Colgin
Forbidden Love is the second in the They Bite series, and I mention this because there are numerous references to the previous book with assumed knowledge, so I would advise readers to read Book one – Forbidden Bond before moving onto this book. Unfortunately, I wasn’t aware of this, so I will have to play catch up.
Dr Benjamin Arleth, the Vampire community’s most successful surgeon, and Turned vampire, is working on a secret research project, to help vampires resist sunlight.
Nathan Cramer is a werewolf shifter, studying the final year of his MBA at Borson University Campus. He is part of the pack led by alpha wolf Mitchel Edgehill, who lives on campus with his partner Sinclair Davis.
Sinclair is a Living vampire. Sinclair is also studying at Borson University campus and is the son of Luther Davis, the Lead of the Vampire Council.
Nathan and Benjamin’s chance meeting at the Peace Conference occurs after Nathan is injured and Benjamin is the one to treat him when he is brought into the local hospital. Due to the distance and short time of knowing each other, the start of their romance had them sitting in uncertainty and doubt.
Samuel is one of Benjamin’s oldest friends and the vampire he requested to turn him a quarter of a century ago.
Samuel is ‘part of’ the Vampire council’s enforcement management and is cynical on all matters. He turned out to be my favourite character in the book.
I am hoping to get a fuller backstory when I read Forbidden Bond – They Bite #1 but found myself wanting to know more about the characters, the Edict of Secrecy, the Peace Conference and how the species are planning to start working together.
The storyline was quite light but enjoyable. It kept me hooked enough to want to read the rest of the series – Book #3 is due in Summer 2020.
Thank you, NetGalley and Nine Star Press for the opportunity of reading an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review - #ForbiddenLove #NetGalley #NineStarPress.
Book 2 of the "They Bite" series was fine, but I enjoyed book 1 a whole lot more, if I'm being honest.
In the first book, we met Nathan, an MBA student and member of Mitchel's werewolf pack, who was kind and caring, so I immediately took a liking to him.
Then when Nathan got shot following a bombing at a supernatural conference, it was the Vampire Council's top doctor, Ben, who patched Nathan up again, with their mutual attraction being a byproduct of their meeting.
I was really excited to see their story, but this one didn't pull me in nearly as much as the first book did. This story just felt a bit more generic and bland for me, possibly because neither MC had much of an edge to them.
I did like both of the MC's and mostly enjoy the book; however, it was a much more subdued experience this time around.
My favorite parts of this story were when the previous characters made appearances, including Sinclair's awesome parents, and the bits where we saw the vampires and werewolves beginning to work together to heal the centuries-long rifts between their species'.
My least favorite part was the twist that the mystery of Ben's lab experiments on vampire immunity to sunlight took, which felt extremely rushed and skimped on providing any in-depth specifics behind the betrayal.
We were introduced to Ben's snarky, pint-sized maker in this story, and I immediately liked him, so I'm hoping that the next book in the series is his, but I have no idea who his love interest might be.
So to recap, this story was "fine", but a bit of a let-down after the excitement in the first book, and I'd rate it at around 3.25 stars.

Who doesn't love a good paranormal romance ?!?!?
This was so nice & sweet ! You don't need to have read the first installment in the series which is great and there is this whole werewolf-paranormal convention going on which is one of my favourite fanfiction trope.
I had a great time, while this wasn't the best mm romance book or paranormal romance book I have ever read it was super light and fun to read overall.
I highly recommend it if you are looking for something new and fun that won't take you too much time to read.
I was hooked from the first page and I recommend going into this not knowing much about it, that is what I did and I really enjoyed the experience of only briefly reading the description and jumping right into it.
Pick this up for a great time with paranormal mm romance, that will leave you smiling.

A very cute shifter/vampire m/m romance! It was a quick and easy read. The plot was interesting enough. The human/supernatural dynamic was pretty believable. I’m a sucker for lgbtq+ representation and the m/m dynamic didn’t disappoint.
Nathan and Ben were adorable. I enjoyed their relationship. But the characters as a whole lacked depth. I didn’t really care about them one way or another.
Plot holes and missing information were pretty apparent. I felt like I was missing something after the first page. Maybe because I haven’t read the first in the series, although this is supposed to be a stand alone.
With all of that said, it was a cute read but I’m not interested in reading the others in the series.
Dr. Benjamin Arleth is a vampire working on a top-secret experiment. He is working on the development of a cream that might allow vampires to walk in sunlight. Of course, there are many implications, both good and bad, for this in the world Lee Colgin has created.
This is the second book in the “they bite” series. In the first book, Colgin sets about describing a world in which Vampires and were-creatures have always been enemies. As time. Has progressed, the two races have intertwined more often. Sinclair – a living vampire and Mitchell – an alpha wolf meet and fall in love in the first book. If only life were that simple though!
The world is moving forwards slowly. Vampires and were-creatures agreed to meet at a peace summit that ended in a human-placed explosion injuring people. Nathan … a young and amusing werewolf from the first book was injured protecting Sinclair. The injury he sustained was serious enough that he was rushed to the hospital. It was Dr. Arleth who performed Nathan’s surgery. He was taken with the brave young werewolf.
While dopey from surgery, Nathan remarks upon how handsome Benjamin is but he’s certain he has ruined adverting later on. After all, why would an intelligent, scientist and vampire be interested in a werewolf who is still in school?
While Ben and Nathan are still getting to know each other, Colgin ramps up the action and intrigue again! In Ben’s lab, things have gone awry. He begins to question what’s happening with his experiments. Is there a reason that the experiments could be failing? As always, I’m not going to give away too much of the plot as I love the way that Colgin balances the main character's love story with the action of the plot. It’s a great combination of the two.
Of note – I loved the supporting character, Samuel. Samuel is Ben’s best friend and maker. He’s a grumpy man, all sharp edges and pointy bits. I particularly loved the banter back and forth between Samuel and Nathan when they met. There was no love lost between the vampire and the werewolf but it was adorable.
I’m not sure if this is the end of the series – I sure hope it isn’t! I’m really curious about what will happen to the world if news of a successful aid for vampires to walk in daylight gets out. Colgin has already hinted about the drawbacks and advantages!
This is a great series with some real original plot points! It’s definitely worth a read.
Forbidden Love is the second book in the They Bite series. I read book one, Forbidden Bond back in December, so when this one popped up on Netgalley, I couldn't resist requesting it. I have to admit though, that it did take me a little while to get into this one. This was mostly because for some reason (possibly my own stupidity) it took me a while to realise that the book actually starts in the middle of the last one. I eventually clicked and then everything made much more sense. It would have probably been better if I'd read (or re-read) the first book just before this one.
Nathan and Ben make a cute couple and I enjoyed their romance. They work well together as a couple and I liked the way that they addressed the issues facing their relationship. Ben did seem quite young at times, he's supposed to be 46, which is young for a vampire, but still, it didn't quite seem right to me.
This is quite a short story, but a lot takes place in it, there's plenty of action as well as the romance. I did think that there could have been a bit more said about the motives of the bad guy, it was kind of left once they knew who was behind it. There was a suggestion that they may not have worked alone, but nothing more was said. I do wonder if, like this book, a future book will pick up that story and take it further from another point of view?
This was a good read and I'd be keen to read any future books in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read this book!

After reading and really enjoying book 1, Forbidden Bond, which was also kindly sent to me by NineStar Press (Goodreads review linked), I was super excited to read Nathan and Ben's story!
You can definitely read this novel as a standalone, the first 25% is basically a recap of book 1, which is helpful to those who haven't read it but a little repetitive for me as I started this book straight after reading the first.
The plot was definitely fast-paced, I read this in one sitting, but I was a little bored in places and the romance wasn't really for me. I didn't feel like there was any depth to the characters or any relationship development. I was more intrigued by Samuel's character than I was by the mains!
Overall, a short and quick LGBTQ+ paranormal romance, I'll definitely be picking up the 3rd book when it comes out!
If you just want a quick m/m romance, I definitely recommend checking this one out!
I feel like there was not much depth to the characters, they did not really develop throughout the story (but then the book is also very short!) Their relation feels very quick, they basically fall in love on their first meeting, and we only see a little bit off their relation growing.
The plot also felt a bit bland. Their wasn't much happening on Nathan's side of the story, and there was stuff happening with Ben, but I feel like the book was too short for that plot to really develop!
But, as I said, if you just want some m/m romance, this was good I would say!
