Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC! My friend Vivien writes the most delicious cozy mysteries, and I always look forward to a new one. FATAL FRIED RICE will be out next year, and I"m already looking forward to it. In this entry, Lana Lee is investigating the murder of Mildred Mao, a denizen of Asia Village, where Lana's noodle shop is located. This fictional plaza in Fairview Park is home to many business owners and people who have been involved in murder investigations over the years. June Yi, who owns Yi's Bakery and Tea with her sister, Shirley, is Mildred's sworn enemy. They get in a car accident at the start of the book, and then are both in the hair salon when Mildred is electrocuted by a hot tool in her foot bath. Shirley Yi wants Lana to clear her sister's name, and of course, Lana is an old pro at solving murders. Doing this work is now part of Lana's identity.

This series continues to surprise me - breaking the mold of what's expected in a cozy. I love the relationship between Lana and her detective boyfriend, especially as it grows deeper over the books. Conflict comes from unexpected places, and characters from previous books have long arcs and recurring appearances. The murderer really surprised me in this one, too. There are some unresolved threads that I hope will be revisited in future books.

Another murder in Asia Village? It's getting downright dangerous there! No worries, though, because once again Lana Lee is on the case. While getting her hair done, a murder occurs in the salon in the Village. Saying that she is not getting involved in the case, Lana gets pulled in by the most likely suspect's sister, asking her to prove her sister didn't commit the murder.
I really love this series and always am disappointed when the current book ends. Most of the characters are well develop by this book, but it can still be read as a stand-alone. As it looks, maybe Lana's sister, Anna May, might be highlighted in the next book with her own mystery? Recommended for mystery lovers.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for making this digital ARC available. This review can also be found on my Goodreads page.

Thank you to @stmartinspress and @netgalley for the e-ARC! I really enjoyed this one. The Noodle Shop Mysteries feature Lana Lee and Co at the Ho-Lee Noodle House in Cleveland, and are a perfect entry into cozy mysteries, especially for the younger crowd. Instead of your typical older lady solving mysteries involving her book club or knitting circle, Lana and friends are in their late 20s and solve all manner of mysteries around the Asia Village, where Lana's family owns the noodle shop and where several other businesses reside. In this edition, Lana and her best friend try to solve the mystery after one of the most hated patrons of Asia Village ends up dead--and her arch rival is the prime suspect. This book was funny and easy to read, with a mystery you really weren't sure you figured out (I definitely didn't). It will also make you HUNGRY, so serve with a side of ramen. PICK.

I will update this review with a link to my Instagram post once posted!

Only Lana Lee could dye her hair metallic gray and have it look good - well at least after some slight alteration. In the midst of her dye job, the lights go out at the salon. When they come back on, Mildred Mao is dead with her feet in a foot bath. Not one of Asia Village's favorite people, Mildred has been know to ruffle a few feathers especially the Yi sisters - June and Shirley. Both disagreeable, Lana is surprised when Shirley asks her to clear June as a suspect

With so many people disliking Mildred, it's hard to investigate, but Lana persists. When it seems as if one of the Mahjong Matrons might be involved, Lana doubles her efforts. This series cracks me up. Not much Mama Lee as usual, but still fun.

I have to be honest, I have only read the first book in the series, and I was horribly disappointed.
I’ve seen friends promoting other books in this series, so when I saw Killer Kung Pao on NetGalley, I decided to give it a try.

I’m very glad I did!

I absolutely loved this book and Lana Lee is a great character. There are times I will read a book that’s further into the series, because reading a first book in a new series can be overwhelming.
I’m looking forward to reading the other books I’ve missed, and I’m really glad I tried another book by this author.

Lana Lee is on the case of a deadly "fender bender" in the Asia Village plaza. Between being an amateur sleuth, redecorating the restaurant at her mother's request, planning a sale extravaganza for the Village and being a "relationship" counselor" , her plate is full. However, she's going to have to make time to solve the mystery or find herself the target of a murderer!

Lana is a wonderfully honest and relatable character. One of the best things about reading a series is seeing the main character grow into their role of amateur sleuths and Lana has developed into a savvy sleuth. The mystery, in Killer Kung Pao, is full of entertaining twists and turns and I loved the exciting ending! Lana's best friend Megan has her back, boyfriend Adam is respecting her sleuthing skills and her family and friends are as loving, humorous and frustrating as ever!

I'm curious to see what will happen with her sister's "sketchy" relationship at work and which mystery Lana will solve in the next book!

I received an ARC from NetGalley. The opinions expressed are my own.

I loved being back at Asia Village again. Lana Lee,who works at her parents restaurant has a lot on her plate, including finding a killer. The connections between the suspects were very complex but fun to read and very convincing. The killer was surprisingly simple in the end.

I received this ARC via Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press, in return for an honest review. While the sixth book in this series, it is easily read as a standalone. Welcome to the Asia Village Shopping Center, Cleveland, OH. Lana Lee, manager of the family restaurant, is ready to change her hair color (again!) from pink to an interesting steel grey. While at the salon, two senior women, who’d had a fender-bender the night before in the parking lot, arrive at the same time and fireworks ensue. When one of them ends up dead by electrocution at the pedicure bath, everyone assumes the other woman is the culprit. Lana is asked to put her investigative skills to use, as she’d previously solved five murders at different shops in or around the Village. Aided by her boyfriend, Adam, who also happens to be a police detective, and her best friend, Megan, Lana untangles the complicated and long-time relationships of the Asia Village community to find out the culprit.
I’m always so excited to get a new book by Ms. Chien in this series. The stories are well-crafted, and each character is clearly written and voiced. Lana is great as she navigates her way through cultural and parental challenges to solve these murders. I highly recommend this book and already look forward to the next in this series.

Lana Lee is back again with another adventure in the Asia Village. This time someone gets killed while she is getting her hair done. Lana is such an interesting character, a bit of a rebel. It is entertaining to see what her hair color will be each book. I always enjoy reading about Lana and her exploits, All the characters are well written and well developed. I find the setting of an Asian shopping center to be engaging especially as this is not something that I have much experience with. The story moves along at a good pace and I was disappointed again when it was over because now I will have to wait until the next book comes out. This book could be read out of order, but it would give the reader a much better understanding of the characters to start at the beginning of the series.

Lana is once again on the case when someone is murdered while she is getting her hair done. Lana continues to be a likable and fun character with friends and family that are both supportive and annoying - just like most families. The plot has a nice twist and is a fun addition to the Noodle Shop Mystery series.

This is a delightful, fast paced cozy mystery with an appealing cast of characters including Lana's quirky family, lots of humor, delicious food and a compelling mystery. Lana has plenty on her plate between running the family restaurant, being given the job of heading the annual sidewalk sale at the mall and now trying to solve the mystery of murder at the hair salon. Yet, with the help of her trusty sidekick and best friend, she manages to accomplish it all in style. I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with Lana and look forward to her next adventure.

A manager of a Cleveland Chinese restaurant seems like an unlikely investigator, but Lana Lee often finds herself in the middle of a mystery. When she is having her hair done by Jasmine, her favorite stylist at Asian Accents, there is a shocking death in the salon. Is it murder or an accident? The woman who died was abrasive, but is there someone who hated her enough to kill? If you are looking for a well written cozy mystery with likable characters, I recommend Killer Kung Pao. Thanks to the publisher and to Netgalley for this ARC.
