Terrific addition to this series! Same full, interesting characters and witty dialogue, but a different more emotional tone. Claire is running away from family expectations and obligations. Estranged from her family, she leads a lonely, cautious existence. Holt embraced his obligations to the family farm and is content, but lonely too. His patents are semi-retired and traveling. Being a close family, he misses them. Add in the delightful and familiar citizens of the quirky southern town of Highland, GA and it’s a book that is hard to put down.

A Highlander is Coming To Town is a fantastic contemporary romance by Laura Trentham. Ms. Trentham has provided readers with a well-written book. I love the characters in this story. Claire has felt neglected by her parents her whole life and lands in Highland, Georgia after quitting as the lead singer of the band she traveled with. Holt has spent his life in Highland, farming with his parents. His parents are off touring the US so he's running the farm on his own. Claire and Holt's story is packed with drama, humor, spice and a little suspense. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to my next book by Laura Trentham. A Highlander Is Coming To Town is book 3 of the Highland, Georgia Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A handsome guy in a kilt is a sight to stir a woman’s blood and Holt Pierson is no slouch in the legs department. Or tush either, truth be told. At least that’s Claire’s assessment. In “A Highlander is Coming to Town” Claire has been laying low in Highland Georgia after leaving a touring group in which she was singing. Finding herself stranded in Highland with no place to stay and no visible means of support, she takes a temporary job as caregiver to old Ms. Meadows who is mostly bedridden and a bit of a curmudgeon. Claire rides an old bicycle to run errands for herself and Ms. Meadows. After getting run off into a ditch by a carload of yahoos, Holt happens along and gives her and her mangled bike a ride home. He’s taken with her immediately but Claire is reticent and loathe to give up personal information and background. Yes, she’s hiding out. But from whom or what? Holt is determined to follow through on his desire for Claire as well as to gain her trust so she will be honest and open with him.. But what is the big secret she’s hiding?

Author Laura Trentham captures the essence of small town living where everyone knows not only their neighbors but everyone else in town too. The closeness, the nosiness that is a natural facet of that closeness, the community spirit and willingness to help a neighbor or friend in need are all a part of the fabric of small town living. Her characters are well rounded and authentic, flaws and all. Holt is the quintessential All-American good guy while Claire carries an aura of mystery with her. She purposefully dresses down so as to not call attention to herself, which to my mind, has the opposite effect. I especially liked the stages of Claire’s development as the story moved along although I felt that her reluctance to trust men in general was never fully explained or developed. And, while the ending is an HEA, it wasn’t the outcome I was expecting. And maybe that’s a good thing since it probably would’ve been too much of a cliche. Four stars.

A middle of the road romance with elements I loved and aspects that didn't hold my interest. Holt was a wonderful character and I loved him, Claire was a bit whiny, in my opinion. For all the secretive aspects she exhibits I was expecting something a bit more sinister and wanted to tell her to put on her big girl panties and make some tough calls. The background characters were more engaging than Claire. (I really didn't connect with her.) The romance was sweet, the setting was picturesque, and the author brings a well-paced descriptive touch to her writing.

My thanks to the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this title via NetGalley. Opinions expressed are my own.

A "Highlander is Coming to Town", by Laura Trentham (St. Martin’s Press), features a great hero, a regular guy who, besides being the handsome, sexy guy we expect, is also a good man, unashamedly pining for the heroine.
Holt is very well written, a compelling character who makes mistakes but has a refreshing honesty about them and life in general. The way he falls head over heels for Claire is sweet and endearing. He’s just an affectionate, funny, very down-to-earth person, which makes him a very likable and relatable character.
Claire is also an interesting character, who grows and changes throughout the story; she’s dealing with a lot of baggage, but her issues really didn’t grab my interest.
I liked the way their relationship progressed, the small town dynamics and the secondary characters.

A book in a series, this one flipped the script a bit by having the Claire be the Highlander hiding her true identity. Instantly she connects with Holt Pierson and he slowly brings her out of her shell. Along the way, she develops bonds with Mrs. Meadows and Anna, and realizes what she wants for her future. A bit formulaic but a nice light read.

We finally get a love interest for Holt, I liked him from the very first book. Holt notices Claire and she truly does need his help but she doesn't really want to be noticed since she is hiding out. Claire comes from a super rich family and is tired of living for them. So she is in the town and ends up having friends, people to care for and who care for her. I loved reading about Anna from previous books, but was bummed that we didn't get anything from Izzy and her mom who were a big part of this town. anywho it is enjoyable.

I have several of Ms. Trentham's books and this one was particularly good. Claire is hiding out until her 25 birthdays when she will have to make some decisions about her family business and her future.
She is helping an elderly lady who has been feuding her neighbors.
Claire meets up with the neighbor Holt and the story begins. I really enjoyed the different points of view; it really rounds out the book. The writing flowed nicely, and I did not find any errors. I recommend this book. Thank you for an advance copy for an honest review.

5* Magical Stars

This was my first read into the Highlander series and can be read as a standalone. The story of Claire and Holt was sweet and sexy and some very funny moments too.

Claire has been “on the run” for quite some time as the lead singer of a touring band. When she decides it is time to part with the band, she is content to hide out in Highland, Georgia until her 25th birthday where serious decisions have to be made about the future of her life. What she did not anticipate is meeting the very sexy and friendly Holt who happens to be the neighbour of Ms Meadows whom Claire is caring for after a nasty fall. There is no love lost between Ms Meadows and Holts family and I enjoyed reading how Holt and Claire wormed their way into Ms Meadows heart.

When Claire develops feelings for Holt and Ms Meadows, she finds it hard to stay focussed on her decision making and reveal her true cards to them. When the magic of Christmas approaches families are reunited unexpectedly and truths are shared.

I enjoyed this well written story very much, and the POV’s from both Claire and Holt made the story flow well.

A perfect Hallmark , cozy small-town Holiday story. This is a 'by the book' comfort read for all those who seek a sweet, no tumult, very little drama read. Holt is perfect - a little too perfect for my taste. His only flaw is that he slightly grudges his parents for going away on a well deserved vacation, leaving him alone to manage the farm. Other than that , he is handsome, funny, witty at times, incredibly patient and very charming. He literally does no wrong, leaving Claire to be the source of all hurdles in the relationship. She is ... meh. An heiress who doesn't want to be one with a history of bad (but not overly damaging romantic liaisons) who decides to hide in a small Georgia town to figure out what she wants to do with her life. Her defining emotion is worry - that she will be recognized, that she will not be able to live up to her family's expectation, that she will lose her heart to the handsome farmer, that she will get overly attached to her temporary host - there is a LOT of worry with her.
The relationship is believable and the chemistry is definitely there. There are a couple of steamy scenes but, true to the Hallmark quality of the book, they are rather non-descriptive and mild. I wish there was more between the sheets interaction because the couple showed a lot of potential but I suppose it's not the right genre for that.
Mr Meadows, though terribly clichee , is entertaining and pivotal in moving things along. Her old feud with Holt's father does not get in the way of encouraging Claire to give the good fellow a chance once she gets a glimpse of his true colors.
Christmas does not steal the show (as I feared upon seeing the cover) and that was quite refreshing. I would have liked the story to be more about them and less about her. Other than than, a really lovely read. It will not rock your world but it will make for a pleasant afternoon or two (depending on your reading speed).

The way Laura shows how complicated yet rewarding relationships can be is excellent. She keeps you turning pages to see how everyone gets through the issues.

A good Christmas time story about friendship, relationships and romance. Claire is a lead Scottish singer who is hiding in Highland, Georgia trying to find out what to do with her life. She meets her neighbour Holt a hometown guy, learns to trust, love, gets to make friends. It is a sweet read.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the eARC

This is a 'sweet' romance, though it isn't all sugar. ;) There are some sexier moments. Holt, the Hero, is a down to earth nice guy. He is patient with Claire, the Heroine. She shows her that there are nice guys in the world, and that not everyone has ulterior motives. Claire is slow at giving away her trust, though not really because she was in some bad relationship (which is usually the case in romances,) but because of her upbringing. While his characters is upbeat and tends to be optimistic, her's is quite the opposite. She is more reserved and has many doubts. She is more melancholy and that is the general feel of the book. There are no evil villains at play (though I guess her 'secrets' may be considered the evil villains, as they are what could break the relationship.) No major drama, though there is a break-up and make-up scene. As I mentioned, there are a lot of sweet moments, some more on the steamy side, and several laughs throughout. (Mostly within their bantering.) It is primarily taken from Her POV, but if I remember correctly, there are one or two scenes that are taken from His. It is a relatively easy and quick read. It's a lovely story with plenty going on to keep things interesting. While there is some sexual content, I believe this would be safe for readers 16 and up.

A great visit to Highland, where we catch up with friends and see Holt finally get his love.
With the author's signature style and wit, this small town novel brings warmth, laughter, friendship and love and makes the reader never want to leave the immersive world the author created.
Looking forward to the next book in the series.

**I received a copy of A Highlander is Coming to Town from St. Martin's and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions are my own and not solicited in any way.**

A Highlander is Coming to Town by Laura Trentham is the third book in her Highland, Georgia series. This is Holt and Claire's book but it's really Ms. Meadows who I'm sure everyone had a beloved teacher everyone loved. She taught the whole town science and the lessons she teaches Claire are the most important one..love, and family may not be the one your born with it's the people around you. I can't wait for the next book and the best line in the book is when Holt tells Claire that of course he's going to wear a kilt to the bar because he'll get a free beer.

Claire Smythe decided to stay after the Highland festival giving up the Scunners singing group and taking care of former teacher Ms. Meadows (Careful of her shotgun) using a bicycle to get into town. Holt Pierson rescues her during a rain storm and he knows there's a reason she's hiding in Highland so he's willing to find out with a burned dinner and showing his farm animals to her. Little does he know that her biggest decision is coming right after the Robert Burns festival at Christmas, will she stay or move on? Can he convince her to stay?

Holt Pierson is lonely when his parents retire to sunny Florida leaving him with the farm that's his
legacy. Meeting Claire in town may just be what he needs to get over his doldrums however hell have to get beyond her reluctance to share information. He introduces her to his best friend Annie, Ian and Dr. Meadows giving her a sense of family she never had. An emergency with Ms. Meadows will bring many decisions for everyone involved including Claire.

I was excited to see another installment in Laura Trentham's Highland Georgia series. A Highlander is Coming to Town is a charming, feel good story and centers around Claire Smythe and all-around good-guy Holt Pierson. The unfolding friendship and romance between Claire and Holt made for a delighful read. Another 5 star book.

This one was about Claire, she’s running from something but not ready to share yet, she finds herself in Highland Georgia where she finds the courage to be herself. While I wasn’t a fan of Claire as a character, she was a bit whiny. I loved Ms. Meadows. She’s a spunky woman who we all need in our corner. An easy Romance read, with a predictable outcome. Perfect for when you want a light read.

Thank you Net Galley for the arc, in exchange for my honest review.

While the world is dealing with Covid19, this book was a nice escape for me. It has a great plot that does not have the normal conflict between the main male and female characters (Holt and Claire). The issue between them is that a major life decision needs to be made that will either keep them close in location or bring them apart.

I enjoyed the interaction of Holt and Claire. Both of them are really good people and I cared about them. I adore stories with a character of the older population and this book has Ms. Meadows. She is crusty on the outside and has a heart of gold lying beneath.

This is the third book in the Highland, Georgia series but it can definitely be read independently. I read the first book in the series and missed the second, so now I need to backtrack and catch up.

I want to thank St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for giving me the pleasure in reading the Advance Reading Copy of this book. My review is my own opinion not influenced by receiving the ARC.

I enjoyed this continuation of the Highland series and I was so glad to see Holt get his story but I was disappointed that it wasn’t HIS story; it was Claire’s. Claire was okay but I felt like she had no depth. There wasn’t really much development or background that made me want to root for her.

I was provided with an ARC of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
