In the market for a mostly sweet, a bit of heat, romantic witty tale? This tale is just your cup of tea. Easy well written story that can be read as a stand alone, although it is third in this series. This author always delivers just what any romance junkie needs.
This is another book by Laura that I absolutely LOVED!! It showed a consistency that we don't get to see in other authors books that she continuously does in hers.
Claire is trying to figure out her future and find herself. She's been avoiding her family and ends up spending time in Highland. Holt is a hometown guy who knows the path he is on and is generally a great guy. The two are not a likely match, but they work. I enjoyed the story a lot. It's a fast paced read set in a quirky small town. It's just a good fun holiday story. I received an advance copy from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Claire Smythe is hiding from her family, at least until her 25th birthday, when she has to make some big decisions about her future. She found refuge in Highland, a small town in Georgia, working as companion and assistant to the old and lonely Ms. Meadows. Holt Pierson comes to her rescue when he gave her a lift home one day. Claire isn’t ready to be in any kind of relationship, and Holt can’t seem to stay away from her.
I quite enjoyed this sweet story. Claire and Holt work well together, and I loved their interactions. Claire was like a cute, but prickly porcupine most of the time, and Holt was trying to get to her softer side without getting pricked. Claire’s secret revealed itself slowly, and in increments, just as she slowly opened up to Holt.
Pick this if you’re in the mood for a romantic comedy that’s not always bright and shiny.
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and Netgalley for providing me with an ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is such a delightful series: lighthearted, sweet, and romantic in a fun way.
Ever since I read the first book, I've been waiting to hear Holt pierson's story. It was clear that he is a great person, but this doesn't always guarantee being lucky in love. Well, things are going to change this Christmas, because there is a highlander in town and she might be just what Holt has been waiting for all his life.
We met Claire Smythe in Book 2. She was a lead singer of a band that performed during the Highland Games. Claire is running away from something or someone. When the town preacher introduces her to eighty year old, frail but feisty Mrs Meadows who needs a live-in caregiver after her unfortunate fall, Claire grabs the opportunity to weather the storm in her life, and perhaps reflect on what really matters to her.
Holt Pierson's father has unsuccessfully tried to buy Mrs Meadows' land, so there is no love lost between the two neighbours. Still, Holt has nothing to do with their dispute. All he knows is that he should have checked on his elderly neighbour to see if she needed his help. After all, Holt has been raised to be kind, responsible and considerate, something Claire can't help but be attracted to.
What I love about this whole series is the town and it's inhabitants. One of the bigger questions these books are grappling with is the sense of belonging. What makes a place home? Claire never felt this type of community spirit and willingness to go an extra mile to help somebody out, even if they are barely more than a total stranger. Claire grew up in the place where appearances were more important than genuine affections and everybody seemed to have an agenda. It isn't easy 'to forge your own path' in this kind of environment, but Claire is determined to make her own choices.
My favourite scenes in the book are that of Claire and Holt's first date and the scene where he is teaching her to milk cows. There is something sweet about this couple. Things might have been developing fast between them, but you do get a feeling that they are at the stage of their life where they have changed and are ready for something new and serious.
I hope the author continues with this series as every single book in it has been fun to read. Having said that, it is difficult to say whose story might be next (Claire's cousin Lachlan?) and of course, I'd love to know how the couples from the previous books are doing. I'll be looking forward to Highland, Georgia #4.
Thank you to NetGalley and St.Martin's for the ARC provided in exchange for an honest opinion.
A Highlander is Coming to Town is another enjoyable story in Laura Trentham's Highland, Georgia romantic comedy series. I've been looking forward to learning more about Holt and am delighted that he turned out to be as endearing, kind, steadfast, and genuinely nice as I had hoped he would be. Claire, on the other hand, is new to Highland. She's prickly, secretive, and a fish out of water. Highland may pride itself on its Scottish roots but northern Georgia is a far cry from Claire's home in Scotland.
Claire has never known unconditional love, never fully trusted another person, never known anyone to perform a kindness without expecting something in return (thanks to her dysfunctional family). Small wonder she regards Southern hospitality with skepticism. I enjoyed watching her slowly lower those protective walls she has built around herself as she gets to know Ms. Meadows (the elderly woman she works for), Holt, and others in the small community. I also enjoyed watching her shake up Holt and his rather complacent life. Holt grounds her, giving her a safe place to land while Claire opens his eyes to possibilities he hadn't considered.
The pace of this book is slow and easy, with minimal angst, a bit of steam, a lively group of townspeople, and a happily ever after I can believe in. Fans of the series will enjoy new events in Anna's and Iain's relationship (book 2 - A Highlander in a Pickup) while readers new to Highland, Georgia should be able to jump in with A Highlander is Coming to Town.

I did have a hard time in the beginning with this book but as I read on I warmed up to it. I really liked Holt’s character but I did feel at times like Claire had two personalities. For the most part I found book was sweet and charming.
Holt Pierson is living his life in limbo. Now with his parents semi-retired, Holt is running the family farm by himself. He knows one day it will be totally be his responsibility but he is ok with that. With Christmas fast approaching and missing his parents, Holt finds himself drawn to the mysterious Claire Smythe the young lady from Scotland. Turns out Claire is living at the elderly Ms. Meadow's house helping her out. The more time Holt spends with Claire, the more he is drawn into her life and finds himself wanting to be involved deeper.
Claire is enjoying being around Holt. It's the first time in her life that no one has wanted something from her because of who she is. As Claire's 25th birthday is fast approaching she knows that she has a big decision to make in regards to what she wants out of her life. Claire really doesn't have any type of relationship with her parents and that causes her to reflect back on a lot of her past. The new life she has been starting in Highland, GA is more exciting and comforting to her than life in Scotland.
Just when Holt and Claire's relationship looks like it has found a happy medium, Claire's past comes tumbling into Highland. It will take a lot of soul searching for Claire to realize what she truly needs to be happy in her life......Holt and her life in Highland.
I enjoyed this sweet story. Both Claire and Holt have always done the things that other people wanted them to do. For once they had both made the decision to grab life by the horns to find their true happiness. They both are sweet, caring people who really deserved their happy ending with each other.

A Highlander is Coming to Town is the story of Holt and Claire. Holt isn’t looking forward to the holidays since his parents took off for Florida and left him alone to take care of the family farm regardless of how he feels about it. Claire is the Scottish lead singer of a band. She’s hiding out in Highland, Georgia, and hoping to keep under the radar. But when she meets the enticing Holt can she take a chance on love?
This was my first book by Laura Trentham and I very much enjoyed her writing. The book and heart without being too angsty and plenty of passion and steam to keep me interested in the romance. I love the sweetly devoted Holt and his determination to do what’s best for the farm even though his parents are constantly taking him for granted. He so obviously needed his own place in the world and his own happily ever after, and that’s why Claire was the perfect girl for him.
Claire has her own issues she’s trying to deal with. She’s trying to hide out in Highland, Georgia but not doing a very good job of it. She’s dreading her eventual return to Scotland because she has her own familial obligations that are weighing heavy on her mind. She working as a live-in caretaker for an elderly widow in the town who’s sort of like the Hatfield to Holt’s McCoy. I loved the addition of Ms. Meadows to this story since I’ve got a soft spot in my heart for a cranky old woman character. Holt’s been trying to get Ms. Meadows to sell the land his family wants, and it’s an added bonus that suddenly she’s got a beautiful girl living with her.
This book is the third in a trilogy, but I did not read the other two novels and still enjoyed myself. I loved the setting of the small-town hijinks and gossip next to the holiday festival, the accents, and of course those kilts. My only minor complaint was that the whole Christmas theme was a bit of an afterthought in my mind. There’s definitely some references to the holiday and there’s an overall holiday vibe, but I’m a glutton for Christmas and I wanted more. I felt like there could have been more activities around Christmas that would have been lovely to add to this romance.
Overall, I enjoyed myself with this book. It was sweet with enough steam to keep it interesting. Holt and Claire are working through similar family issues and I liked that they could understand each other on that level. I loved how sweet and open Holt could be and he was very supportive of Claire who definitely needed that in a partner. As a start to my Holiday reading, it was a pretty good appetizer since it was also a quick read. Fans of small-town romances and sweet Hallmark-style Christmas movies will definitely love this book.

I really enjoyed A Highlander is Coming to Town. This was a fun, light hearted, sweet romance between Claire and Holt. Both have family issues to overcome, but they are drawn to each other. This well written story just flowed for me. I love the quirky, small town characters where gossip and misunderstandings are the norm. I was drawn into the story and read straight through.
She's destitute, he's always there to help her.
Claire Smythe (alias) is in Georgia after she performed at the Highland games.
She's a singer in a band, but she's broke, struggling and very proud. She's a mess.
Holt, conveniently, is always there to help her out.
He's exceeding patient with Claire.
I do enjoy how he unnerves Claire, but it was a bit depressing to see Claire at such a low point.
It was fun to return to the Scottish themes in Georgia.
Recommend.
This was a well-written, entertaining book. Claire has settled in the small town of Highland, Georgia, seeing it as a safe place to hide. Holt is in charge of the family farm while his parents are away for the Christmas season. They keep running into each other, and little by little they start to question some of their assumptions and envision new possibilities. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books by this author.
Wondering if this is the last in the series? I frankly think so.
While I'm sure Trentham can spin other yarns in this town, especially as it brings cousin Lachlan to Highland, I think this concept is ready to wrap.
This wasn't as charming as the other 2 mediocre stories in this series. Maybe that's the case because Claire was trying her best to repel Holt's woo and handle Ms. Meadows' grumpy, but I think it's just that the concept has tired out and reading this felt less joyous and holiday magical as you would want from a Christmas romance.
Somehow this adorable little town, Highland, GA, is like a sister to Scotland. The Scottish activities and friendliness of the town has drawn three transplants, so far. The first one took his lady with him, the second stayed behind and the third decided to part ways with her band, and hang awhile, after they played at the Highland Games. Claire was determined to stay alone and a stranger to this fabulous little community, but a chance run in with Holt changed everything. Holt gave Iain a run for his money at the last games and Claire definitely remembers his thighs in a kilt. Holt has roots in town and Claire is running from hers. Their story is a pleasant romance with many instances to swoon but she also had the chance to grow and make decisions based on her needs and not the family. Although it's not necessary to read the other books you will grow to love this community and its people. I received my copy through Netgalley, review provided voluntarily.

I really wanted to like this book. When the publisher gifted me this e-arc I literally jumped for joy. The cover gave me all the Christmas vibes and synopsis sounded amazing, however it took me a very long time to get invested in the story. The main character Claire has a massive secret, in order to keep this secret, she is rude and tries to avoid people. I disliked her character and I didn't buy into her "poor little rich girl" persona.
When Holt offers to help her, sparks fly and there is instant chemistry, yet Claire acts very rudely towards him. This doesn't frighten him off, instead, it almost intrigues him. I really didn't understand their relationship. I didn't feel invested in them. Sorry.
The storyline had a lot of potential ,however there were parts that I will admit I skimmed over. There was a lot of information yet not much going on. It fell a little flat for me.
On the cover, I really thought there would be a Christmas theme so I was a little disappointed when there wasn't.
On a positive note I did enjoy the environment Laura created and the support systems for the characters.
Overall the book was okay, it wasn't really for me though.
I would love to thank st.martin's press and NetGalley for a copy of this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
Holt Pierson dreads Christmas now that he’s stuck on the family farm while his parents go off to Florida for the holiday. He’s always done what was expected of him, whether he liked it or not, and is starting to question that way of life. Enter Claire Smythe, the singer in a band hoping to hide out in a small town. He tries to draw out her story and help her, but she resists.
A Highlander is Coming to Town is another cute Highland, Georgia novel, following A Highlander Walks into a Bar and A Highlander in a Pickup. There's no need to read those novels first, as the characters don't feature in this one very much. This focuses on Claire being drawn out of her shell by Holt, a genuinely nice guy that's patient and friendly, backing off until she's ready to engage.
There isn't any dreadful problem to solve in the book. Claire is avoiding her responsibilities to her family and inheritance, which is revealed partway through the book; she's so afraid of it that she took off and didn't look back, not setting down any roots. This leaves her as lonely as Holt. They're adorable together, and I enjoyed seeing them realize how much they care about each other and the people around them.
I'm one of those people that has to read a series in order, so when I got this ARC I went and got the first 2 in the series to read first. This can be read as a stand alone book, but there are characters and relationships in the first 2 that continue into this book.
I loved the story! Holt has watched 2 of his friends find love and move on and he's been left behind. Claire has been lost and been looking for something, she's not even sure what. This was a sweet romance that shows that when you don't look for love, you find it.
This review is based on an ARC from NetGalley, courtesy of the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Holt Pierson is dreading Christmas. His parents absconded to Florida for the season and left him to handle the family farm which will be his one day. Driven by duty, Holt has always followed the path expected of him. But lately, he’s been questioning what he wants and where he belongs. To Claire Smythe, the Scottish lead singer of a touring band, Highland, Georgia, is the perfect place to hideuntil a very handsome and deeply curious Holt helps her with a flat tyre.
This is the third book in the series & is easily read on its own even though there are cameo appearances from the previous books, which personally I love. I really liked Holt who is so caring. I didn’t warm to Claire & wondered what Holt saw in her. The chemistry between the pair wasn’t there. However I found this a well written romance which was entertaining & it did keep my interest all the way but not my favourite of the series
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Having not read a book by this author before, I was pleasantly surprised with this story. Even though this is book 3 in her Highland, Georgia Series, it can definitely be read as a standalone. It is a light-hearted, contemporary romance that I found easy to read. It had a good, strong storyline and characters that endeared themselves to you.
Claire Smythe is the former lead singer of a Scottish band, who is hiding out in Highland, trying to bury all the secrets that she holds. An accidental meeting with Holt Pierson is about to change everything for her. Holt is a caring man, looking after others more than himself. He's determined to find out the secrets Claire holds. Preparing to face Christmas alone, Holt is focused on finding out everything about Claire. He wants to break down all of the walls she has built up around herself. Even though their personalities are completely different, this story shows that opposites can attract.
Even though I did enjoy this story, it did tend to drag in a few places. it took me a while to warm up to Claire, her secrets weren't really the major ones I was expecting. Whereas Holt, I loved him from the moment he was introduced.
Overall, it was an enjoyable read, and has me looking forward to Christmas.

FOUR STARS.
Claire is searching for home and a purpose. She has grown up in a household of indifference with a legacy that she is expected to embrace but deep down, this isn’t what she really wants in life. She rebelled and set out to pursue music as she traveled with a band playing festivals. But as her 25th birthday approached, she knew this wasn’t what she wanted either so she stayed in Highland, Georgia, taking a job to assist Ms. Meadows. What she never expects to find is home. Holt is now responsible for the family farm and running into Claire in town, he feels a spark that is unexpected. He loves the farm but something is missing. Wanting to spend more time with Claire, Holt has to find ways past her walls. Claire is afraid but Holt and Ms. Meadows have a way to allow her to just be herself. The real challenge, will she let herself embrace what her heart wants, or will family obligation win? I had fun with this romance. These characters allowed me to escape and be part of Highland, Georgia and appreciate neighbors taking care of neighbors as love is found along the way. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
