The story was very depressing. I stuck with it just to see if the author could pull the darkness away....she didn't. Sander (grandpa), Ello, Hunter, and Juliana are each fight their own demons, and have chosen to keep their problems inside. Ello wants her friends back, her supposed best friend has given her the cold shoulder, thus causing the others to shun Ello. Hunter is attempting to fix the mistake he made at the company - while ignoring the problems at home. Sander is still morning his late wife. Juliana was once a high powered lawyer, now she is the glue that keeps her family together.
The story proves that we all need a little support, and love in our life to be fulfilled.
Here's another heartwarming holiday read with a canine perspective by W. Bruce Cameron, author of A Dog's Purpose, A Dog's Journey, The Dogs of Christmas, and other delightful doggie reads. This time, fans share A Dog's Perfect Christmas.
It sure doesn't seem to be starting out that way for the Goss family as the holiday approaches, but change is in the wind, starting with the acquisition of an abandoned puppy. As the 25th approaches, the family crisis deepens but the Goss's learn to lean on each other, to support and be supported ... leading to a perfect Christmas for dogs and their humans!

What a sweet story. Simply put a new puppy is all a family needs to fix their problems. Ok maybe not but I keep telling my husband that…
The Goss family are like so many of us. Life is hard but when the holidays arrive everything seems to be worse. The family is dealing with everyday difficulties when a true emergency hits the family leaving everyone at loose ends. But in comes a ball of fluff that makes everything better and brings out the love the family has for each other.
A very sweet read for the holiday season to remind us that it is the little things that make life and the holidays special.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this title. I wanted to love it, but I wasn't able to finish it.
I started A Dog's Perfect Christmas several weeks ago and then put it down because it seemed too dark and depressing. I picked it back up yesterday, and I am so glad that I did! I loved the way this family evolved and changed. It was such a disaster at first, but through a tragedy, the individual members found out that they need each other. They found their way back to being a family!
An ordinary family trying to overcome difficult life changing events, each in their own way. Family members are all caught up in their own drama and handling their shared dramas in individual ways. What this family needs is something to pull them all together and to teach them to look out for the needs of others and not just themselves. Along comes a puppy and in all her puppy-ness, she does just that. This is a quick read about the meaning of family and everyone pulling together, but it’s not one of those fluff and happiness, feel good Christmas stories, as a family struggles with real issues. Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced reader copy.
I have heard of the many dog books that W. Bruce Cameron has written but before this book I've never had a chance to read any of them.
I am so blessed to have been able to read a copy of this book.
There are many emotions coming forth in this book, the stress of taking care of young children, twin boys and a young teen girl with a belligerent attitude, stresses of daily life and trying to keep a job. Add to the mix Grandpa has moved into the family home after the death of his wife and basically given up on life and a serious medical issue in the family.
Stress and unhappiness is abound and this family just doesn't see a way out of it.
Grandpas's dog also picks up on the stress and mopes around the house as well.
They say a new situation breathes new life into a family and that is exactly what happens in the form of a new puppy .
We meet so many characters and I loved getting to know them all. The thing I also enjoyed is that since this is written by a man I think he got the female emotions down pretty well including the teen girl and the other women in the story. Not going to give too much away here now.
I highly recommend you read this book, you will love this heartwarming story
. I am going right now and ordering the rest of this author's books to read!

I was given a complimentary copy of this book. Thank you.
All opinions expressed are my own.
I had a hard time getting into this book. It could be due to the stresses of this year or the 8th grader who is me attitude in the beginning. I liked the dog's thoughts, it added to the story.
A typical family that is stressed in many directions. A puppy helps them through the difficult spots.
I was given an ARC e-book copy from Netgalley. I am not required to leave a positive review.

I wasn’t sure I would enjoy this book when I first began reading. However, it didn’t take long before I was chuckling out loud and was invested in the lives of the characters. There is a lot going on as you read through the pages…a family is in crisis. A daughter with the typical teenager attitude. A grandfather with no enthusiasm for life. A mother with an identity crisis. A father struggling to provide for his family and succeed in his job. An old dog that misses life the way it used to be with his mom and dad. And young twin boys who are all out and such a hoot!
Then you factor in a health crisis, a stray puppy, and a love life competition for the grandfather at the playground among three women. Life begins to change and the family members realize how much they love and appreciate each other. It is painful to experience Ello’s difficulties with popularity and how she does not value herself. How much a person can make a difference in one person’s life. Are you willing to be that person? I hope I would be able to be the positive influence that the “new boy” was.
I love the viewpoints of the Winstead, grandfather’s faithful dog, and Ruby, the stray puppy. Your heart will ache one moment and soar the next. The joy of life through a dog’s eye is uplifting!

There are some authors I know will always write a book worth reading. One of those authors is W Bruce Cameron..This offering is about a family who could easily fall apart when the mother/wife became sick with an unknown disease that caused paralysis and loss of consciousness. The stress on her husband who will lose his job if his restructuring of the workspace doesn't improve productivity puts him in a place of hopelessness. Ello, their daughter, is walking home from her ice skating lesson when she hears some unusual noises coming from the dried weeds nearby. A puppy who was dumped there by a previous owner is so happy to feel kindness from this new person, it launches itself into Ello's arms and changes the lives in this depressed household. The characters are so well developed, I could feel their desperation. I was hoping these characters could do something to improve their circumstances. This sounds like a depressing book but it isn't. It is more about how a pup finds itself a part of a family that is able to pull itself out of despair and into happiness. I highly recommend this uplifting story.
What a wonderful, emotional book about a family facing their own individual problems and then how a crisis can bring them together. This book is a definite read for the holiday season and of course what can possibly go wrong in a book that has an old dog and a new puppy in it. W Bruce Cameron tells part of this story from the point of Winstead, the old dog belonging to the Father/ Grandfather in the story and its as if you are there with Winstead as he sees and processes what is going on. Another great book by W Bruce Cameron which I would highly recommend. I received an e-book copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read and review A Dog’s Perfect Christmas. I loved this book along with W. Bruce Cameron’s previous titles. A feel good book for the holiday season. I especially loved Ruby and Winstead, the canine family members who made the story complete. A must read for dog lovers.
The addition of a puppy to a household can cause much confusion in a household, and it can bring much love. The Goss family was barely holding themselves together on a normal day and when an unexpected medical emergency happened, they were on the verge of falling apart. In comes Ruby, a stray puppy who literally launches herself onto insecure teenaged Ello. Ello takes Ruby home thus giving Ello and her family a little respite from their problems. Ruby helps the family bond in ways that they never had before, so that the family can pick up the pieces and really start to live again. This story has a bit of humor in it and it was interesting to watch the characters' growth and their relationships blossom. I loved the story-line of grandfather Sander and found myself chuckling at his reintegration into society and his budding new female friends.
A Dog’s perfect Christmas is a delightful read, sure to warm the heart and remind readers that family is what life is all about.
This story starts out dealing with the different trials and tribulations of each member of the Goss family. As the holidays approach, tragedy strikes forcing them to learn to work together. Enter an abandoned puppy, just what the troubled family does not need. But when the puppy brings new life into the household, just maybe everything will be okay. The unhappiness at the beginning of the story was a little hard to read but by the middle and end of the book, everything came together. It is a heartwarming story about a family who learns to love each other again, all with the help of a little puppy; a book I recommend!
First book I have read from this author. The Goss family are your typical family with problems. Juliana and hunter, Grandpa Sander. Ello and the twins Ewan and Garrett and Grandpas dog Winstead! No one seems to be happy and each in their own world. Juliana tells Hunter how unhappy she is and he fears she will leave him. Tragedy occurs and each family member will have to come together during this time. Ello rescues a puppy who she names Ruby. In reality, Ruby helps the family unite together. Good read.
Thanks to W. Bruce Cameron and Forge books!
A feel good Christmas novel, that although a little predictable will leave a smile on your face. A multi- generational family comes together when things get hard- throw in a couple of puppies and you have a winner.
Yet another wonderful book by Mr. Cameron! I adore all of his novels (and even teach A Dog's Purpose!) and this one is no different. He really knows how to get inside the minds of animals to show us what they're really thinking.
This is a good story of the complexities of family and the bonds that hold them together. Maybe that bond gets a bit of a nudge when an abandoned puppy joins the household at a time when it seems that everything is falling apart. He loves them all unconditionally, and helps them look beyond the little annoyances that sometimes come between them. The book started a bit slow, but ended up being an emotional and heartwarming story of a family in crisis and the love of a dog.
