I'm a big fan of Marissa Meyer so I was excited to read a YA contemporary from her! Without the world building Marissa Meyer's writing skills really shone. Great character development, well paced and a perfect summer read.

Overall cute book but lacked depth and substance. It felt like a copy and paste version of the same stories just in a different setting. The characters fell a bit flat

Hi Again!

Recently I decided to revive my monthly lists here on the blog but in a really fun new way, so if you have not yet seen the September list head to the navigation bar and check it out! I would love to know if you are picking up any of these books and if so which ones or what books that are not on the list I should be checking out. In the meantime, last week while I was away I was able to pick up a book on audiobook that has been on my shelves since it came out! I got to read Instant Karma (and several other books, and I am really enjoying clearing my TBR a bit).

SPOILERS AHEAD

Pru does her absolute best and more all the time, at school, at home, at literally everything she attempts to do. There is no task too big for Pru to take on except for maybe her final project in a class where she has to have a partner. Her partner for this project is Quint. Pru does not hate Quint but she has zero faith that he will come through with his part of the project so she has taken over and on the day of the presentation she feels like she does a great job despite Quint. However, the grades come back and it turns out she did not make an A (far from it). The teacher tells her she did not follow the assignment and they did not work well together. But she is allowed as long as she can get Quint to work with her to redo her project. Now Pru has to figure out how to get Quint to help so she can keep her perfect grades.

This was a very fun read! I listened to most of the book on audio but at the end of the day, I would pick up my copy to read a little more at night. I really enjoyed meeting Pru and her whole family (as well as her friends) and then getting to meet Quint and his family. This book did a wonderful job of illustrating how everyone has different priorities for their own life but sometimes you have to work together to achieve those dreams (even if it’s with a person who is not your favorite). I loved the ocean life and animal aspects of this story as well! I believe there is a sort of follow-up or sequel to this book about another character that we met in this story so I may check that out soon. In the meantime let me know in the comments below what you are currently reading?

Instant Karma by Marissa Meyer is a fun, lighthearted contemporary romance with a clever twist. The story follows Prudence, a high school senior who believes in doing good deeds to earn "instant karma." When she’s granted the power to deliver karmic justice, she starts using it on those she thinks deserve it—especially her annoying classmate, Quint. But as the story unfolds, Prudence starts questioning her assumptions and realizing that things aren’t always as simple as they seem.

The writing is engaging and easy to read, and the dynamic between Prudence and Quint is both entertaining and sweet. Their back-and-forth is full of witty banter, and their relationship develops in a believable way, with both characters learning important lessons about kindness, judgment, and personal growth.

This story is a slow burn, even though instant is in the title! The characters will make you fall in love with love!

[RECOMMENDATION] For those who love sweet, YA romances. For those who relate to being the type A , got it together, girlie... that is maybe just a little judgemental (it's me, hi, I'm the problem it's me!)

[SYNOPSIS] Prudence finds most of her town to be lazy, rude, and arrogant and is quick to judge. One day she wishes for karmic justice... and it happens!?? She now seems to posess some bizarre power where she can inflict karma justic on anyone she wants. The only person immune to her "justice"? The adorable Quint Erickson. He's a major slacker, and also majorly cute. When she decides to work at the local animal rescue for extra credit, where he works, she uncovers a few secrets about him... and the animals.

[REVIEW] This book is one of those super cute YA romances that teaches you a bit about yourself as you read. You really start to think about how quick you judge others, and want to grant people more patience and grace! I found the love story very sweet and fun.

**This e-book copy was gifted to me by Feiwel & Friends and Netgalley - thank you! All opinions are my own.

Such a cute romance! Set on the beach and in the waves with a furry sea animals mixed in, this is a hate to love romance!

I apologize for the delayed review for this ARC. Unfortunately I couldn't really get into the book as I had hoped so I kept pushing it out thinking maybe I'll get into it but I didn't. To be fair, I like contemporary books but love fantasy/scifi with elements of magic and while there was some here I wanted more. I thought there would be a little more mature characters like The Lunar Chronicles which I loved so this seemed different from what I expected. Overall, it's a light and easy read.

What a SWEET fast paced read!

I'm a sucker for anything Marissa Meyer writes and Instant Karma did not let me down. Enemies to loves, friend groups, small town, and a bit of mystical excitement makes for a perfect book.

Instant Karma by Marissa Meyer is such a cute story. I adored this one immediately. This was definitely different from anything else I have read by Meyer. She did such a good job with this cute sweet romance novel. Prudence Daniels was definitely a bit annoying but I grew to love her in the end. She finds out that she has some form of power were she can grant instant karma but then she finds that it won't work on the one person she thinks should get bad karma and that is Quint. Quint is always late and behind on homework and Pro is definitely type A personality so they just don't mess well together. I wouldn't say that this is an enemies to lover book. I really liked the realization that Pro has as she learns more about others in this book. Pro grows as a character and I really enjoy that. What really drove this book for me though was the interactions between Pro and Quint. These two were such joy when they were together and it made my day. It you don't mind contemporary romance with little bit of magic check out Instant Karma. It is a fun book.

A cute YA title. I prefer the author's science fiction and fantasy books. But many young readers will appreciate this book and I will sell it.

Pru and Quint are partners on an ecotourism assignment, but she’s a perfectionist and he’s chronically tardy. They do not get along, and their grade suffers for it. Pru begins a mission to get some extra credit when she discovers that her town has an animal rescue center, and, to her surprise, Quint is a volunteer there. Can they get over their rivalry and work together?… Of course they can. This book is so predictable in the enemies to lovers trope. But what it lacks in surprise, it makes up for in utter chaos. The instant karma power that Prudence has is so random and not even a main plot point, and Prudence is just so self-centered and annoying. She knows nothing about how the world works, yet she thinks she knows everything. In summary, the plot of this book, the animal rescue plot anyway, was very intriguing. The family and friendship dynamics explored were good. The main character was awful, and the magical realism was unnecessary.

I couldn't put it down once I started it. I'm a huge fan of Marissa Meyers work and this book was amazing. It was a contemporary fast read that has you hooked from the beginning

Rare to find a protagonist that is obviously judge-y and flawed yet still easy enough to understand and root for. And the development of awareness regarding the outside world and the love interest was an intriguing gradual reveal.

Those that know Marissa Meyer's previous works may find this one a different choice, but I enjoyed it quite a lot. I think I preferred this to some of her other speculative titles--and that is saying a lot about it!

I liked the writing, the setting, the general concept of the story, and the audiobook narration. But, it wasn't enough to actually get me actually like the novel as a whole.

I requested this title because of the author more than because the premise appealed to me. Unfortunately I just couldn't get into the novel.
