I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Somebody’s Daughter, the seventh novel to feature DCI Natalie Wood, set in the fictional Midlands town of Samford.

With promotion Natalie is taking a more hands off approach, leaving DI Lucy Carmichael to lead but when a couple of teenagers, suspected of being lured into the sex trade by boyfriend Tommy, are brutally murdered she is asked to take a more active role. When more bodies are found the pressure on the new unit increases from all sides.

I enjoyed Somebody’s Daughter which is an engrossing read with plenty of twists and turns. It is mostly told from the investigative point of view with the odd change of voice to elaborate on some events and some chapters with the characters’ backstories. On the whole it works well and I wouldn’t be surprised if the series takes a turn away from Natalie in future to concentrate on the other members of the team who all have stories to tell.

The plot held my attention throughout with a couple of suspects pursued over the course of the novel. I did, however, find the solution rather unconvincing. One minute there’s no hint of it and then suddenly it’s all over. This may be the way it is in real investigations but I was hoping for more of a twist. Nevertheless this is just a whimper and the journey to it is full of events, red herrings and bodies.

As ever Natalie has an eventful personal life. She’s struggling to connect with her new partner Mike’s seven year old daughter while remembering her daughter, Leah and thinking about her estranged sister, Frances as family troubles led the dead teenagers into a life they didn’t want and certainly didn’t expect.

Somebody’s Daughter is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

A young woman is found dead in a Samford car park. Now that Natalie Ward is a DCI her protege DI Lucy Carmichael will head the investigating team - her first major case since her promotion. The victim was Amelia, a runaway from Nottingham. It’s clear she’s been working on the streets. The only lead the team have is the name Tommy - possibly her pimp. Then another young woman is found dead - another of Tommy’s girls. Is Tommy killing his girls or is someone killing off sex workers? The identity of the next victim throws the investigation into chaos - is it the same killer or does Samford have two killers on the loose?

A brilliant book right from the start. Love this series by Carol Wyer.

I did not want this book to end it was that good!

Natalie has been promoted to DCI but is still very much involved in the case when a young girl is found murdered.

I would love to have Natalie and her crew on my side if ever I should need them.

The new crime team has its hands full in this book and stop at nothing to solve these murders , yes there is more than one!

I was hooked before I opened the book and once I started I could not put the book down; froze my Kobo at one point.

If you have not read this series you are missing out!!

Cant wait for book 8 in the series: no pressure!!

Crime fiction is my favourite genre and especially when it's a series. I haven't read these in order despite having them all on my TBR. This like the rest that I have read caught my attention from the very start and it kept me gripped until the very last page. Normally I would be waiting for the next book but I am going to read from the beginning. I got this as an arc to review and would like to thank the publishers and netgalley for letting me have the book to review and the opinions expressed are entirely my own views and are completely unbiased.

I absolutely love this series. Picking up these books is like meeting up with old friends.

I enjoyed the new team dynamics and look forward to seeing how they develop.

The plot was heart breaking at times. It's appalling how some people treat others and I think it was portrayed really sensitively.

As usual I was hooked from the start and didn't want it to end.

Brilliant as usual. Can't wait for the next one.

This is Carol Wyers 7th book featuring Detective Natalie and and it's a cracker! Natalie has been promoted to DCI and Lucy, one of Natalies team is now DI. The case begins with the discovery of a young girls body and intensifies quickly. DI Lucy Carmichael can't help thinking she's not ready to solve this horrific crime. With Natalies guidance and support she keeps going. I like Lucy and was pleased to learn more about her. It was nice to see Natalie happy and settled with Mike after all she's been through.
This was a fantastic read and I literally couldn't put my Kindle down.

This is a new to me author. Though this is book 7 in the series I found it read well as a stand alone, likely because the main character has just been promoted to DCI and her team's dynamics have changed.
This was a well written dark and twisty police procedural. The characters were well developed and interesting and the story flowed well. I quite enjoyed this book and am going to read the first six in the series.

A TWISTY turny read that had me hooked from the first to last page. Gripping, atmospheric with loads of suspects. Packed to the rafters with tension and suspense and a very emotive back story. I was blown away by this book. It's finished now and I want the next one now PLEASE!!!!!! Another triumph from this author and a well deserved eight stars, if only I could. Another MUST READ in this gripping and very addictive series LOVED IT!!!!!

This ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is the 7th book in the Detective Natalie Ward series. I have not read the previous 6, even though they were on my TBR. That being said, I had no problems jumping into the storyline. The characters were all explained well and any background was provided and I don't think it will spoil going back to read the previous books. DCI Ward and DI Carmichael are tasked with solving the murder of a young girl on the streets. As the investigation progresses, the victims grow and grow. I liked all of the characters on the team, with the exception of Andy. He is another detective that is very negative, Everyone on the team deals with his negativity well. This was a good mystery. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Wyer lets her characters grow and change. And she shows us their personal relationships as well and how difficult it can be when you're trying to stop a killer. The tension is almost unbearable throughout - the press, upper management, the politics of a new high-profile team, a baby at home for Lucy. Wyer keeps piling it on with more murders. Wyer hides the killer in plain sight, but it's still a surprise.

This is a great crime-fiction series from Wyer and you should definitely add this book to your summer reading list.

Wow, another instalment finished in one sitting!!!
There was a lot to follow in this one with a fast paced case that was continually escalating, I have to confess that having read this in one sitting eventually finishing at 2am I did find myself re reading the end just to make sure the facts were all straight in my head prior to reviewing.
Police team dynamics have changed with certain characters moving up the ladder and new arrivals to the wider team, the characters already known through the series ( Natalie, Lucy, Murray and Ian) were the ones we mostly followed though I'm sure the others mentioned briefly in this book (Celeste and Poppy) will be developed more in coming stories.
Hard to comment on the case without giving away anything but it was definately edge of your seat and fast paced to keep everyone on their toes. With unexpected twists and turns and character developments I didn't expect and that definately followed paths I hadn't seen coming.
With ongoing character storylines that have been expanded upon yet left open for future development as always I can't wait for the next book.

When a girl is found dead in a car park newly promoted DI Lucy Carmichael is at the helm. Natalie is now promoted to DCI is overseeing the case as she wants them to succeed as a team but also because they have moved into Holborn house which is a state-of-the-art facility. When another body is found, the women both Prostitutes are linked and to a pimp called Tommy. At first, they think that this is an open and shut case. But when a body of the daughter of a wealthy local businessman ends up dead. All is not as straightforward as it seems, and they have got to find the killer before they strike again.
Carol Wyer has done it again with another great episode in this series. This is cleverly written, compelling thriller. There were so many bodies that kept turning up in this episode you could not quite guess right who the real killer was right up to the end. I liked how the author shows us the relationships and the ups and downs of each character it makes the story more realistic. And I can’t wait to find out what happens next with the new team with Lucy at the helm. Will she cope? And what is next for Natalie?

Book 7 is a fantastic addition to this series. DI Natalie Ward has had some big changes in her life recently. If you haven't read the previous books then maybe it's not time to read this review as it may contain spoilers.
I know I say this a lot but to get the best of this series knowing the back history is best so I would advise that you read the books in the series in the correct order.
It possibly would be good as a standalone, but for the best of it read them all.
Natalie is slowly getting to grips with her new living arrangements and her love life. Having gone through all the trauma she has in the past its nice to see Natalie attempting to take charge of herself again.
Having had promotion recently this doesn't stop Natalie from needing to be very involved this this latest case.
When the body of a young girl is found it's all hands to the deck as they say. More so when another body is found. There has to be a link somewhere and the team go out of their way to discover what is behind these killings.
I love the main characters in Carole's book, they seem to be brought to life being back with Natalie was like meeting up with an old friend.
Fantastic storyline as usual it will keep you gripped from start to finish. Twisty beyond twisty. It was good trying to guess which way certain things would go.

This is the third book that I have read by this author. The first being 'The Blossom Twins' which was the 5th book in the 'Detective Natalie Ward' series. The second book was 'The secret admirer' which was the 6th and this is the 7th. I thoroughly enjoyed both of these and look forward to reading this (written before I started reading).

Although this book is the 7th in a series it can definitely be read as a standalone. There are parts where events from previous books are mentioned but it gives any sufficient details needed, including in flashbacks which I enjoyed reading even though I have read the book the event happened in. I won't say much more in case readers wish to read the previous books, I don't want to spoil it for them.

I was originally drawn to this book by its intriguing cover and blurb. I must admit I was also biased due to the author and the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture or Carol Wyer that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of 37 chapters and a prologue which are medium in length so not too bad for 'just one more chapter', like that ever happens for me, more like 3 or 4 more!!

This book is set in England which is always a bonus for me. I'm from Wales but visit England regularly on trips and holidays so have visited quite a few areas. This helps me picture places if they are mentioned in books and I have visited them.

This series has a strong female lead which is also a bonus, being female myself it's always great to see some strong females in books.

I enjoy being able to see from several of the detectives perspectives as you can read more about more of what is going on with the case, what various witnesses and suspects say and make your own decisions on their innocence or guilt.

The writing is smooth and very easy to read. The descriptions are EXCELLENT as always and I really felt that I was in the novel. I even got teary at the end!! I enjoy the fact that flashbacks are also used to show what characters had previously done that isn't part of previous books but used to complete a picture of what was going through their heads when they were doing something, E.g. what the victim was doing at certain times. It helps to show us what led to certain events.

The characters all have fantastic personalities and I love how realistic they are. Murray made me laugh on several occasions with their attitude. Lucy seemed much more serious in this book which would be a realistic description of her as she is now DI. Its good to read more about her including more of her personal life. Natalie is as strong as ever and it's great to see more of her and Mike's relationship since she has also been promoted to DCI and I'm very happy for her. Although I'll be gutted if this means the last of Natalie Ward!! You don't 'see' Ian as much in this book but there are other characters from other departments which it was nice to 'meet', all with their own querky personalities. I also love the fact that the superintendent Dan Tasker is Welsh, being Welsh myself of course. Although it's a crime book I love that there are several parts that are more light hearted and made me laugh as it mixes it up a bit, which is something else I love about Carol's books.

The storyline was fast paced, intriguing and filled with mystery, murder, red herrings, suspense, crime and deceit. A true page turning thriller.

I didn't guess what was going to happen which is always a bonus when it comes to crime novels.... Nothing worse than working it all out before your even half way through! I was completely shocked and gutted really by what happened.... Won't say more as not to give it away. My heart also did a little flip right at the end when Natalie sees someone in the car, again won't say anymore.

Overall what a heart racing, page turning roller-coaster of a book but PLEASE DON'T LET THIS BE THE LAST OF NATALIE!!!!!!

I would recommend this book to fans of murder, crime, thrillers, suspense, fans of Carol Wyer and just anyone looking for a fantastic read!! I also recommend Carol's books to fans of Angela Marsons, C.L TAYLOR and M. J. ARLIDGE.

Natalie Ward is back, and as much as you can read this book as a standalone, I suggest you read them in order because the whole series is terrific and it will add to the depth of the read!

A young runaway is discovered murdered and Lucy is in charge. Since Natalie got promoted, she needs to take a slightly more hands-off approach, but that is hard to do and she wants to support her team. The bodies start to pile up and the pressure is on to solve the murders...but is the main suspect really the one?

Natalie has her hands full with easing into a new live-in situation with Mike and trying to win over his little girl, very slowly. Her ex has moved on but she still worries about him. Lucy is struggling at home and unless she addresses the issues, she could be in trouble.

This was an amazing story, with lots of twists and turns. It certainly made me think a little differently about the homeless, and the reasons why someone would be in that position.

5 stars from me.

The death toll mounts in Samford, including two runaway teenage daughters. This is s very difficult case in a multitude of ways for DCI Natalie Ward and DI Lucy Carmichael. The deaths initially seem unrelated so is it one killer or two? The race is on to find the perpetrator(s) before the death toll rises further. This is Lucy’s first case in charge of an investigation and she wants to solve it as soon as possible.

The book starts really well and hooks you in. The tensions between the investigating team are clear and captured well due to Lucy’s promotion rather than DS Murray Anderson. The characters are good especially those in the police force as these now seem like ‘old friends’! The less desirable characters are well described and easy to imagine. This is a dark and brutal tale with girls being dragged into an horrific nether world. The author conveys their feeling very effectively and it makes you feel sad that they are so duped. The case becomes twisty and twistier and very dark as time goes on and what emerges as the truth is not a pretty tale. I like how Natalie’s past and that of others is brought into the storytelling and this works effectively.

My only reservations lie in the slowing of the pace from time to time because of the inclusion of unnecessary details which takes your attention away from the main event. I think some dialogue doesn’t ring quite true and although the ending is plausible and ties things up neatly it could have been more exciting.

Overall, a good police procedural with a gritty storyline.

I just love the Natalie Ward series so had high hopes for this book. I wasn’t disappointed, another brilliant instalment that kept me gripped from the beginning. Carol Wyer is a fantastic author so I highly recommend this book and series but best to read the series in order. Bring on the next one!!

Natalie is now promoted to more of a supervisory position and is called out to the murder of a young girl who is working as a prostitute. The body count goes up pretty rapidly throughout the book as the police follow their lines of enquiry. What I really enjoyed (wrong word: found distressing but was moved by) was the way the two young girls who got involved with Tommy seemed so utterly ruined by a few wrong decisions. I wouldn’t recommend reading this book late at night as it gave me a few nightmares. The motive of the murderer did seem a little random.

This 7th instalment in the Detective Natalie Ward series sees Natalie recently promoted to DCI. She has moved in permanently with Mike and her private life seems to finally be sorting itself out.
Her son is living with her now and her ex husband David seems to be much happier.
Strictly speaking Natalie should be acting in a supervisory capacity towards her new team headed up by Lucy Carmichael, who is now her DI.
However with the discovery of a young girls body in a car park she finds she can`t not be involved , she is determined her team will succeed.
Enquiries suggest the girl, Amelia, identified as a runnaway may have been manipulated by her boyfriend Tommy into prostitution., Is he also her killer ?
The next day another girl is found strangled on a park bench. She too is found to have links to Tommy.
Like Amelia it seems Katie Bray also ran away from home.
With Tommy the prime suspect the search is on to find him.
But when another young woman is found murdered the next day the case is thrown wide open. This victim is wealthy, certainly not a prostitute.
She also has the word GUILTY written across her forehead. Guity of what?
As Natalie and the team try desperately to make a connection, Tommys body turns up in the canal.
Will they be able to solve the case before the killer can strike again?
Things may have changed for Natalie but not for me, I was hooked from the first few pages as once again Ms Wyer has given us an excellent well thought out police procedural, fast flowing with the tension mounting as the case progresses.
Hope its not too long to wait to discover what happens next for Natalie on both private and professional levels.
