Thank you to @readforeverpub and @grandcentralpub for my gifted copy! Home For The Holidays is a feel-good story about sisters who are called back to the town of Juniper Springs by their Aunt Sassy. Each sister is dealing with something that makes it easy for them to escape their current situations and to take care of their Aunt (they think 😉) I loved the different POVs and especially loved that it was set in a Colorado mountain town. A cozy read for this time of year!
I started home for the holidays yesterday and I finished today! What a sweet novel. I loved the sisters who all gather at their auntie’s place for one last Christmas together. All three sisters are using this trip as a getaway from their normal lives. One is getting over a divorce, one is not sure the guy she’s marrying is Mr. Right, and one is trying to repair her marriage after many years of infertility and the stress that has brought on.
I loved that although the sisters have grown apart, when they are back together it’s like no time has passed. This would make a perfect hallmark movie and was very comforting since you knew exactly how it was going to end. I really enjoyed it.
I also loved that there was a moose named Brutus which reminded me of Ulysses the moose from the Tourist Attraction!
This book was cozy and filled with lovely holiday cheer! Substance was a bit on the lighter side, and things were too neat and tidy, however, that only added to the sweetness. My only critique would be on the editing - there were a lot of typos/grammatical errors that I found distracted me a bit from the story itself. Overall, I recommend this read for the holiday season - it’s cozy and made me feel warm and fuzzy inside!

Home for the Holidays follows three different sisters all in different stages of lives and dealing with their own struggles.
Dahlia is divorced and is now a single mom of two kids, all while still having to deal with things for her ex-husband because he doesn't know how to do certain things for the kids. She is also on PTA, etc in order to stay busy with the kids, and her life full and busy.
Rose is engaged to be married to a social-lite family and is dealing with trying to plan a wedding with an extremely pushy mother-in-law to be and a fiancee who is zero help. She's also kind of lost herself because she hasn't had time to do her own work that she loves which is interior design because of how busy her mother-in-law to be has her with wedding planning.
Finally, we have Magnolia who is struggling with infertility and this struggle has put a big strain on her and her marriage. They've had losses and heartbreaks and they've been dealing with it all on their own and not telling anyone close to them which has made the strain on them even worse when it comes to handling it all. Magnolia also runs her own bakery and has kept busy with that.
Overall I loved this book. Home for the Holidays was very focused on the sister relationship and them helping each other deal with what they were struggling with in their lives. We also see them having to make the tough choice of what to do with their favorite place from their childhood and making big decisions and changes in their lives. I felt for each of the sisters at different times and the emotions they were feeling from happiness, sadness, worry, and just being unsure what to do at times came across so well in the book. From Rose having to choose between what she thought she wanted and what she actually wants now, and Dahlia learning how to move on and start doing more things for her, and Magnolia possibly getting what she's always wanted it was just so special to see happening. The sisters were always there for one another and even though they hadn't been spending much time together, they still knew each other's tells for when something was wrong and they needed the other person. Just that special sister relationship without them fighting over ridiculous things or trying to one-up each other in the Christmas game instead this book was just happiness and love for each other.
I'm interested in reading more by this author now because of how well she did on keeping the focus being on the sisters and family in general and not just making this one into a typical romance book like it could have gone. It was focused on family and I love that no matter what time of year it is.
3.5 stars rounded up - super cute! Pretty corny and predictable, but overall a great feel-good story that was perfect for the holidays. Would recommend to Christmas fans!
Literally loved this story of 3 sisters. Rose, Dahlia and Magnolia or Mags as she is called head to their Aunt Sassy’s inn in the Colorado. Each sister has some reconciliation in their lives. Having several sisters myself made it easy to connect with the storyline. A delightful cozy Christmas read. You won’t want to put it down and will delight in the ending. I totally could see Hallmark making a movie out of the book. #HomeForTheHolidays #NetGalley
When three sisters receive a letter from an aunt they haven’t seen since they were kids asking them to join her for one last Christmas at the Juniper Inn, where they spent their childhood Christmas’s, they feel they need to go. What they don’t realise however is how much they each need this trip and each other too.
I loved each of the sisters and Aunt Sassy and felt so completely invested in their stories. Each of them was dealing with their own personal struggles and I felt they were each handled sensitively and well.
I loved the authors writing style and she had me hooked from the first couple of pages and I devoured this one. I don’t know if there’s any potential of this becoming a series but I know that personally I would absolutely love to hear more from this family!
This book was a great holiday read! It was a story about hope, love and family and I loved that family was at the forefront. The sisters all had such different stories to share and I loved how they all came together. It was such an enjoyable story with a lot of heart!
There are so many books that take on the framework of three sisters, all with varying problems in life that have taken them away from who they used to be. When aging Aunt Sassy lets all three girls know she would like them all to come back to Juniper Inn for one last holiday, it winds up being cathartic for all. The Colorado setting is beautiful and brings back memories of visiting my own great aunt there.
Thank you to Netgalley and Sara Richardson for my copy of Home for the Holidays, for an honest review. The Buchanan sisters have wonderful memories of their time in Colorado, with their aunt at her Inn. They look back in their time at the Juniper Inn, as almost magical, peaceful time in their lives. An argument between their mom and their Aunt Sassy disturbs this peace, this time together. Until this Christmas when Aunt Sassy, sends the word out that she needs help, it might be her last year at the inn and she would just love to see the girls. Dahlia, newly divorced, mother of two jumps at the chance to get away. Magnolia, heartbroken from years of infertility issues, runs to the inn to regroup. Finally Rose, the youngest, heads to the inn, to get away from a very hectic engagement to a man who she might not be in the love with. The Inn and Aunt Sassy are just what these sisters need. The breather, the time to think the time to live. The setting for this book was beautiful. I fell in love with the snow and the people in the town. I am so glad I was able to read this book. It is a very hopeful story. Just what you want to read during the holidays. If you are looking for a book with all the Christmas feels, this is the book for you. I gave it four stars and have recommended it to friends and family. I have also recommended it on my Instagram page. Check out my review on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
Lovely holiday read. I loved the main characters and I think most of us can understand what was going on in each of their lives. HEA endings are always good but I enjoyed not being able to exactly predict how this one was going to get there.
The parts of the story that really made it for was how the characters revisited their childhoods and the activities that they did to prepare for Christmas. I found myself looking back at childhood holidays and the warm fuzzies and happy thoughts put me in spot we don't often get to everyday.
Thanks to Netgalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for an ARC to prepare this honest review.
First of all, I fell in love with this cover. This book had me wishing I had my own sisters, but I have been blessed with the best sils.
.
The Buchanan girls grew up spending Christmas with their Aunt Sassy at the inn she ran in Colorado.
.
Sassy had a falling out with her sister, their mom and the girls decided it was best to side with their mom even though they cherished their time with Sassy. After receiving a letter from their aunt to spend one last Christmas together the girls return to the happiest spot of their childhood.
.
Dahlia is dealing with the fallout of her marriage falling apart, Magnolia is dealing with the pains of infertility and Rose is struggling with her engagement.
.
I really loved this Christmas book! If 2020 taught us anything it’s to take Mag’s advice to live in the moment and stop obsessing about the future! This is book one in the Juniper Springs series and I cannot wait for book 2 #TheSummerSisters out in July!

In Home for the Holidays, we follow the three Buchanan sisters Dahlia, Magnolia, and Rose who each receive a letter from their aunt Sassy summoning them to spend one last Christmas with her at her inn in Colorado.
The three sisters, who live in three different States, receive this letter at the exact moment when they need a break from their lives. Dahlia is divorced with the two kids but her ex-husband relies on her a lot. Magnolia owns a bakery and has a loving husband, however; experiencing infertility is putting a strain on their relationship. Rose, a designer is engaged to a man named Gregory who comes from a prominent and influential family in Savannah. Marrying into this family will bring her misery.
Spending time together with their aunt who they haven’t seen in eighteen years will force them to confront the past, realize what they really need, and press on in the future.
Each chapter is in the POV of a different sister allowing the reader to immerse themselves in their lives and get inside their heads. I really enjoyed the bond between the three sisters who are all unique but understand and support each other.
This book is a sweet Christmas read about family, self-discovery, and a little romance.
TW: infertility and mentions of miscarriage
This is the first book I have read by this author. This is a stand-alone book and I loved it.
This wonderfully captivating book grabbed me at the beginning and I couldn’t put it down until finished.
All of the fabric that makes up family are covered in this book. Relationships, love of family, issues between family members, surprises and love are all part of this fabulous Christmas spent together by this family in Colorado.
I enjoyed this book so much and highly recommend it to anyone who loves holiday books.
Thanks to Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and NetGalley for the advanced copy.
I received a reviewer copy of Home for the Holidays by Sara Richardson from the publisher Forever (Grand Central Publishing) from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
CW: Infertility, Pregnancy Loss, Divorce.
What It’s About: Three sisters going through their own issues come together to their estranged aunt's inn in Colorado. The sisters used to go to Colorado and celebrate at Aunt Sassy's inn but then their mother cut Sassy out of their lives. Dahlia is in the midst of a bitter divorce and to make matters worse she is not spending Christmas with her two darling children. Magnolia’s marriage is strained after miscarriages and fertility challenges. Rose is engaged and set to marry into a wealthy Savannah family but she’s not sure that’s the life for her especially her demanding future-mother-in-law. The three sisters work together to restore the inn to its former glory along with two hunky men.
What I Loved: I thought this was a really fun Christmas book. This book is all about the sisters bonding in a lovely atmospheric inn in snow-covered mountains of Colorado. It was a really fun cozy book. The book reads like a slightly more progressive Hallmark movie. The girls don’t have any condescending views and openly discuss sex, but it’s light, not open door, and just a bit cheesy. I honestly thought this was delightful and not too cheesy and the relationship pace was believable.
What I Didn't Like So Much: I thought this was quite good for a cozy Christmas books. There are a couple stories that I wish had been wrapped up. I would definitely read a sequel.
Who Should Read This: People who want a Christmas story about rediscovering family with sweet romance. People who love Christmas in the Mountains.
Quick Summary: A holiday story about Christmas in the mountains and bonding between sisters.
Do you ever read a book you just really don’t mesh with? This had the makings of everything I look for in a cute holiday read but it did not do it for me. I just wanted more of everything. More substance, more chemistry, more plot. Nothing really happened and a lot of the male characters were so cringey.
However, if you like a sweet, sisterly holiday read set in a small Colorado town, you’ll probably enjoy this!
This was a delightfully cozy, very Hallmark-esque holiday story. I could tell almost immediately how everything was going to play out, but it still gave me all the feels and was exactly the heartwarming story I wanted to read at the time.
Thanks to Forever for my copy to review.
This is my first book by this author and it was a great read.
Sisters Dahlia, Magnolia and Rose Buchanan, in different steps of their life, are invited to spend the one last Christmas at their Aunt Sassy's Juniper Inn.
Dahlia, whose children are spending the holiday's with their father, opens her heart to new love. Magnolia is trying to save her marriage which has been fractured by her infertility. Rose is preparing for her upcoming wedding and trying to decide if it is what she actually wants.
Follow these three "Flowers Sisters" as each sets out on their journey to HEA.
Thank you Sara Richardson, Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and NetGalley for allowing me an advance copy for my honest feedback.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! And that includes on my reading list. Many holiday books are released in late September/early October and I'm just not quite in the mood for frosty, festive, fun at that time. I have to wait until after Thanksgiving (which is in October here in Canada) and then there's usually a warm spell and then it's Halloween so November is when my holiday reading ramps up! My second holiday book this year was Sara Richardson's Home for the Holidays, which was the first of Richardson's that I've ever read. It had really strong family elements which is one of my favourite things to read in a holiday book.
Here's the synopsis:
The Buchanan sisters all share special childhood memories of their Aunt Sassy’s beloved Juniper Inn. There, they frolicked in the snow, baked sugar cookies, and celebrated the town’s annual Christmas extravaganza. They haven’t been back to Colorado in nearly fifteen years, but when their aunt invites them for one last Christmas, they can’t say no . . .
With her ex-husband whisking her children away for the holiday, Dahlia decides it’s time to do something for herself. Juniper Springs is just as beautiful as she remembers, but it’s also full of surprises — including the town’s handsome doctor, who makes her feel like herself again for the first time in years.
To the outside world, baker Magnolia has the ideal marriage. Only the pain and sorrow of infertility have strained her relationship with her husband, perhaps beyond repair. But a holiday miracle is about to change her life.
After a whirlwind romance, youngest sister Rose is about to be married, but as the wedding draws near, she’s unsettled by her fiancé’s expectations that she become a society wife. Spending Christmas with her family could be a necessary reality check — or the beginning of a brand-new happily ever after.
Thanks to the strength of their sisterhood, some mistletoe, and the love of their Aunt Sassy, the Buchanan sisters will discover what it is they truly want this Christmas.
Each Buchanan sister is at a bit of a crossroads. Rose, the youngest and the only one still living in their hometown, is preparing for a wedding that's becoming increasingly out of her control. Magnolia is struggling with infertility and instead of talking to her family about it, she and her husband have kept it to themselves and their marriage is suffering. And Dahlia, the eldest, is facing the first Christmas without her kids as they head to Europe with their dad, her ex-husband. So a letter from their Aunt Sassy comes at the perfect time and they all jump at the chance to spend the holidays with their estranged aunt.
One of the most important parts about Christmas, for me, is spending time with family. I won't be seeing my (very tiny) family this year in part because of the pandemic and in part because my sister is living in England and my mom is almost three hours away. So, I think the family part of this story really hit me, in a good way, maybe more than it would have if I had read this book last year. The sisters may live in different cities across the US but you can tell they're really close. I found myself hoping that stars would align and they would be able to find a way to all live in the same town. Ideally at the Juniper Inn! That was actually more important to me than any of them finding a romantic Happily Ever After, though I was rooting for three of those, too.
Given this is a (holiday) romance, the reader has a pretty good idea of how the characters will be paired up by the end of the story. As usual, that was not at all a problem for me! I don't mind figuring out how the HEA might look as long as the journey there is enjoyable. And it really was for each of the three sisters. There were some irritations (especially with Dahlia's storyline...oooh boy I was so annoyed and so proud of her for standing up for what she wanted, not what was "best" for the family) but they had less to do with the romances and more to do with general life stupidity. (I know that probably doesn't make sense but I'm trying not to be spoilery.)
I have to say that the whole reason Sassy and the sisters' mom were estranged was...stupid. I know every family is different and it's hard to judge but I just couldn't understand how their mother was so incredibly judgemental and clueless (I really disliked her) and why Sassy wouldn't have tried to reach out the girls' when they were a bit older. Or why the sisters wouldn't reach out to Sassy once they were old enough to wonder why they suddenly stopped visiting somewhere they had traveled to often.
You'll find the Christmas spirit mostly in the family connections but also as the sisters prepare for a holiday extravaganza at the Juniper Inn. It was the kind of Christmas event I would want to attend - twinkling lights, food (all the baked goods!), drink, sleigh rides, and time to gather with friends and family.
Home for the Holidays was a really sweet read. I'd recommend Sara Richardson's novel to those who are looking for a holiday read with a lot of heart. It wasn't groundbreaking but I enjoyed the time I spent reading it and I'm looking forward to seeing if Richardson will revisit the sisters and the Juniper Inn in an upcoming novel.
*An egalley of this novel was provided by the publisher, Forever, via NetGalley in exchange for review consideration. All opinions are honest and my own.*
Three sisters who have completely different lives have been living them separately until their aunt calls them back to a small town in Colorado to celebrate "one last Christmas" at an inn where they all have great memories, so they all drop what they are doing and go.
Dahlia is the oldest and after completing a divorce that doesn't seem so equal as she still does a lot for her kids and her ex, dropping it all to go to her aunt's home is necessary for her. Magnolia owns a bakery and her and her husband have been battling infertility to the point where there is a large strain on their marriage, so an escape from life is perfect timing. Rose is the baby of the sisters and she is close to saying I Do in a large Charleston society wedding and her mother in law has become the center of her world and she is questioning it all.
With each sister getting the chance to narrate the story from their perspective, I loved this book as the sisters are rehabbing this inn that has meant so much to each of them and in this remote town in Colorado they are each able to get away from it all and take a breath and decide what each of them wants next in their lives. I felt as though each sisters had an equal amount of drama and things going on in their lives, but nothing felt over the top.
This is one of those holiday books that with the setting, the time and the characters it felt deep into the perfect Christmas holiday season and I want to pass this book along to all readers who love a good Christmas book that is easy to read even in the busiest of seasons.
