Home for the Holidays is the first holiday book I finished this month. I started the book last night but was enjoying it so much I listened to the rest of it on audiobook today.
Home for the Holidays is about 3 sisters who return to their Aunts Juniper Inn in Colorado after an absence of 15 years to spend Christmas with her. Each are going through personal struggles and a break from life are just what they need. Together they discover what their hearts really desire, reconnect with each other and their aunt, despite their mother’s objections.
This was such a heart warming story! I enjoyed that the chapters alternate between sisters so you can be invested not only in the current scene, but the struggles each are going through. Dahlia, a single mother, trying to figure out life post divorce and opening herself up to a new romance. Magnolia who is struggling with infertility and the possible dissolution of her marriage. Rose who is about to be married but is starting to have doubts about her fiancé and very controlling mother. Combine these with a story of returning home and the towns huge Christmas party at the Inn and you have a very heartwarming story.
Magnolia, Rose and Dahlia all receive a letter from their estranged Aunt Sassy inviting them back to the Juniper Inn; their home away from home during their childhood Christmases. I cared and rooted for each sister throughout the story. The sisters were all on their own journey of self-discovery (one even finding love for a dog!). This book felt like I was in a real life Hallmark movie, always the goal of a great holiday read!
I loved every minute! I was so excited to learn that this is book 1 of 2! I can't wait to see what is in store for the sisters and the Juniper Inn!
Absolutely loved Home for the Holidays by Sara Richardson. The Buchanan sisters are invited back to Aunt Sassy's house for Christmas. And it appears her invitation comes at just the right time for these three sisters, as each seem to be at a crossroads in their lives and relationships. If you are looking for a book with all the warmth of family and Christmas, this one is it. Home for the Holidays is perfect for fans of Sarah Morgan. Add this one to your Christmas TBR!
Thank you to the publisher and author for providing me with a digital ARC of this title via Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. I love a good holiday book and was excited to see several available on Netgalley. I was not familiar with this author, but found the cover appealing and the storyline interesting. I was excited for the opportunity to read Home for the Holidays as Christmas time draws closer. I quite enjoyed this title. It was a quick, easy read. I liked the characters and each of their own personal stories. I liked how the sisters came together to support an aunt they had lost touch with. It was a nice, sweet story of following your dreams and the love and support of family. The story was predictable, but enjoyable.
This book was received as an ARC from Forever (Grand Central Publishing) in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
I really really needed a book like this to read. I know sooner or later Hallmark will pick this up and make a Christmas Movie for their channel. Sisterly love and the family bond it creates can't be broken no matter what curve ball life throws at you. My heart melted every page I read of this book and the relationships the sisters have with one another all came to light when they all were reminded of their childhood at Juniper Inn. This book clearly is a reflection of how important staying true to your family no matter what time of year it is is very important to discover your true self.
We will consider adding this title to our Adult Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
I love stories about sisters!
Three sisters- Magnolia, Dahlia, and Rose. All at different stages in their life and having had drifted apart for years. They are called to their Aunt Sassy's place in Colorado where they used to spend time as kids.
I love each and every one of the sisters! They don't take much time to get back to as close as they used to be. They each take this time to change the trajectory of their lives. They each have some funny beginnings as they get back to this town. There are some very handsome men to help them too.
Aunt Sassy is a remarkable woman who has been through some tough times.
If you pick this up, you will fall in love with this little town and the people, including the sisters! Sweet and charming Christmas story.
When their Aunt Sassy sends a letter to the three Buchanan sisters, Dahlia, Magnolia and Rose, they all decide to head back to the Juniper Inn for one last Christmas as a family.
Dahlia, divorced and a single mother of two, is looking for a new future. Her children are with her ex-husband for the holidays, and maybe the Juniper Inn and the handsome doctor in town will give her just what she needs this Christmas.
Magnolia and her husband have been struggling with infertility, so a trip to see Aunty Sassy is just what Magnolia needs to begin a new chapter in her life. Maybe the Juniper Inn will have a special Christmas surprise just for her.
Rose is engaged and a little hesitant about the wedding and the groom’s family. A little time away to clear her head is just what she needs. When she goes back to the Juniper Inn and spends some time with her sisters and Aunt Sassy, her future becomes crystal clear.
This novel by Sara Richardson is absolutely fabulous. I loved the characters and how their stories are all interwoven. It had all the right ingredients for the perfect Christmas story; a small town, three sisters, a devoted, caring aunt, and a few handsome single men. This is the first novel I have read by this author, but I know it will not be the last. I love finding new authors to read. Thank you so much to the author Sara Richardson, Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and NetGalley for an advanced copy of the book to review. It was fabulous! All opinions expressed for this review are unbiased and entirely my own.
The Buchanan sisters grew up spending Christmas with their beloved aunt Sassy in the quaint town of Juniper Springs. After a falling out between their aunt and their mother, those magical Christmas vacations came to a halt for 15 years. Until aunt Sassy invites them back to her inn for one last Christmas...

This is an adorable, sweet read for anyone looking for a family-based holiday romance to add to their list; especially those Hallmark lovers! I enjoyed how it focused around three sisters who are at very different stages of their lives which is actually very relatable for me. I have two sisters who are significantly younger than me and seeing the dynamic between Dahlia, Magnolia, and Rose made me imagine what our future holiday get-togethers may be like. However, I do feel as though the stories of the sisters could have been more developed; the entire time I was reading, it felt like I was leading up to the climax but it didn’t really happen until towards the end. And even then, I didn’t get any satisfying conclusions. Maybe this is what is expected from this type of hallmarky book or maybe there’s more to come for the Buchanan sisters. If so, I’d definitely be interested in continuing on with their journeys.
This little Christmas book was so sweet and heartwarming. I found myself instantly drawn into the lives of Rose (and her rich fiance's family), Dahlia (and her role as a divorced mother to two sweet children), and Magnolia (who is just trying to find her way a bit with her husband and life). The idea of them all ending up at the Juniper Inn during a snowy Christmas season with their beloved but estranged aunt was fun and exciting. The secondary characters that were introduced were fun and intriguing. This book was predictable in all the ways I love - sometimes it's just nice to read a cute family-focused-sister-based love story about the holidays when all the things you think and hope will happen DO happen. :) Zero complaints from this Christmas romance lover!! Highly recommend it if you enjoy Sarah Morgan's Christmas books that focus a bit more on life than SUPER sappy love (though I enjoy those books too ;)). This one is pretty PG.
Families are wonderful. Families are difficult. Families are usually worth it. Well sometimes life erects roadblocks to actually see family as a guiding light. Such is the case in HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS by Sara Richardson. Siblings sometimes just get in each other’s way and decide follow to paths that cross less often. Siblings share more than just DNA, they share memories and those memories are the catalyst for change for the flower sisters and their Aunt Sassy.
I am taking liberties calling them the flower sisters but it just fits. Sisters Dahlia, Rose and Magnolia had a warm relationship with their mother Lily’s sister, their Aunt Sassy. For some reason Lily and Sassy split, ending the girl’s time with their aunt. So sad but stuff happens. None of the girls are aware of what caused that chasm between their mother and their aunt. But life went on and now those girls are adults facing challenges and choices in their own lives. And Aunt Sassy reenters the picture with special Christmas gifts for each of them and a request to see them.
Each gift picked as a special reminder of their time with Aunt Sassy. And rather fortuitous in timing considering the place Dahlia, Rose and Magnolia find themselves right now.
HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS is written in chapters dedicated to one of the sisters, told in her voice, from her perspective. The sisters are at a point in their lives when they have to be honest with themselves which is so difficult. Is life turning out the way they expected, hoped for. If not then is it time to make a change as difficult as that may be.
So visiting with Aunt Sassy and being all together just might lend some clarity and hopefully with this support group help each of them make that giant step toward happiness and fulfillment that seems to be lacking in their present life.
Magnolia and her husband have been unsuccessful in creating a family. Their attempts at having a baby unsuccessful and costly not only in terms of money but to their relationship.
Dahlia’s marriage had fallen apart years ago with her now a single mother of two kids. Dahlia’s ex steps into the picture when it is convenient and Dahlia is beginning to feel pretty much used.
Rose is getting married but she is full of doubts and unease about whether she picked wisely. Rose feels like she is being lead down a path will cancel out her own plans and thoughts.
You might say that Magnolia, Dahlia and Rose are thinking of running away to Aunt Sassy, but it is more like they are looking for a place to land while they decide whether or not to continue on their current path in life.
Reading a book by Sara Richardson is being privy to an expert people watcher. That’s exactly what we do reading HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS. We see these characters through the eyes of Sara Richardson who reminds us to look beyond the flaws. The real character of each person is defined not by what they say but what they do. HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS is about a family reaching out to each other and realizing that their group is precious and valuable. Time to cast aside issues or grievances and look to a new better future. HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS is about mending fences even when you don’t realize there are any to mend.
Three sisters - spread out in the US - not as close as they once were - physically or mentally.
The Buchanan sisters receive a letter from their Aunt Sassy they have not seen in years. Due to a wording choice, the sisters believe their aunt is dying and all go to spend one last Christmas with her. To be honest, each sister needs a break from their lives, this gave them the perfect excuse.
As they spend the two weeks with Aunt Sassy, each sister starts to see their lives with more clarity and realize that family means more to them than they realized.
This story was a wonderful reminder that family is everything and together you can ge through anything.
This was a great holiday read! Three sisters return to Juniper Springs where they used to spend time with their aunt when they were younger. Each sister has some struggle they are going through and have not been as close as they one were. This time at their aunt's brings them closer and helps them realize some things about their lives.
Thank you netgalley for allowing me access to read this. When I saw this was a story about sisters, I knew I needed to read it, having sisters myself. I totally related to this story & absolutely loved every minute of it!
If cozy romances, dripping with southern charm are your thing, you’ll want to grab this one! It’s one of those feel-good stories that can be enjoyed while snuggled up next to the fireplace.
After a very hot summer, I was ready for a book with a cooler setting and since Colorado is my home state, this one sounded perfect. It was also a brief break from my usual genre of thrillers.
After three sisters receive a letter from their estranged Aunt Sassy, they decide to reunite and spend one last Christmas together at the Juniper Inn. It was their favorite place to spend the holidays as children.
We have the uber-organized, perfectionist Dahlia. She’s newly divorced, with two kids. But the choice to head to Colorado is easy because this will be her first holiday without her kids.
Rose is a little more hesitant. She’s living in Savannah and engaged to a wonderful man...with a not-so-wonderful mother. She has her own design business, but no time to dedicate to it since her MIL has her and Gregory constantly booked with events.
And the last sister is Magnolia, or Mags as everyone calls her. She lives in Florida, with her wonderful husband and runs her own mobile bakery. Her life is perfect except for one issue. They haven’t been able to get pregnant, even after spending their savings on IVF. After their last failure, she and Eric have been fighting constantly. She’s more than ready to getaway.
And of course, we need a few handsome men in the picture. Ike is a very hot and very single town doctor. And Colt is the good-looking and rugged owner of the local hardware store.
I’m used to suspense and murder, so this was too sappy for my taste. I wasn’t sure this was my type of book when I agreed to read it, so I considered that when rating it. It was well written and I think the author did a great job of accomplishing what she intended.
Thank you to GalleyMatch, Sara Richardson, and St. Martin's Press, for this free digital ARC in exchange for my honest opinion!

This book is sure to get you in the Christmas spirit! Sisters, Christmas, memories, romance... it is all there. The story is beautifully written and very charming.
Many thanks to Forever and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
I really enjoyed this one! Just the perfect amount of Hallmark-esk to make me ready for the holidays. After a long week, this was the perfect book to read to calm down. Simply charming!
In this books three sisters travel to Colorado to the Juniper Inn. Their aunt requested their presence because it will be her last Christmas. Littls did the girls know, but some space from their real life issues is just what they needed. The girls work through their own struggles and rekindle their friendship. It showed just how some space can clear ones expectations and move forward to a happier goal!
This book gave me all the warm & fuzzies! Such a sweet holiday story that got me right in the Christmas spirit!
I really enjoyed reading what was going on in each of the three sister’s lives, and this book is such a great reminder of how sometimes in life things happen at the exact moment it needs to, even if you didn’t know you needed it or wanted it. I loved reading the sisters reconnect with their aunt and each other, and the romances that developed just made my heart so happy! Was it a little cheesy? Sure. But honestly with Christmas books & romances I almost always go in thinking it will be some level of cheesy, and don’t care one bit! Give me all the cheer!
If you are looking for a sweet, Hallmark style Christmas book look no further! Home for the Holidays is out now!!
Heartwarming and engaging read! I loved this book! Home for the Holidays is about three sisters who are each at different crossroads in their lives that go visit their aunt for Christmas. The story has you rooting for all the sisters as they figure out the next stages in their lives. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
I needed a feel good read with enough emotion to provide some catharsis and that's exactly what I got from Home for the Holidays! From the familial connections to the love connections - this book encompassed so much of the human experience. I loved the sisters (and their names) and could relate to aspects of each of their personalities and experiences. I really loved Aunt Sassy (I'm all about the sass, especially when it comes from a well-intentioned, meddling relative) and the setting in Colorado. While the book does skew more women's fiction, there was just enough romance in there to keep me engaged. Home for the Holidays is a quick, enjoyable read that has me so ready for winter/holiday festivities and connecting with my loved ones. If you're a fan of Jill Shalvis and Susan Mallery I think that you'll really enjoy this book as well. I can't wait to read more from Sara Richardson! 4 out of 5 wine glasses.
Sleigh Bells in Rustic Colorado
When three adult sisters receive invitations to visit their aunt Sassy through Christmas, it couldn’t have come at a better time. Maggs, Rose, and Delilah are privately grappling with personal dilemmas and are stuck in limbo.
Precluded by their busy lives, It’s been a while since they’ve seen each other and even longer since speaking to their aunt. Plus, the mystery of the lengthy estrangement between their mother and Aunt Sassy continues on. What happened back then?
I would describe this as a domestic story topped with romance and smoother edges - the cousin of a Cozy Mystery. Despite the character’s problems, I felt that everything would untangle and be righted in the end.
This was a lovely Christmas read about family and rediscovering your inner spark.
