I liked the play on the zombie genre but was a little mixed on how light the characters were, the lettering, and some of the zombie elements. I also found myself mixing up the two main characters during some mid-book conversation scenes.

Ever After was a nice story with a beautiful ending, but unfortunately nothing more. I read a lot of comics, and this was just ok. I really like drawing in it and the relation between Vivi and Eva, but I think that it could be something extraordinary, but now is only ordinary.

Incredibly simplistic in language but the imagery carried the plot and emotions that the really brief dialog did not. I do not usually read zombie stories but this one had an intriguing cover and a shockingly hopeful tone through the young protagonist.

A HUGE thanks to Lerner Publishing Group, Olivia Vieweg and NetGalley for providing me a copy of this book. This is an honest review, all opinions are my own.

I did quite enjoy the artwork and the basic story line in this plot- seemed fairly straightforward for a zombie novel. The one thing that kept me from giving it the full 5 stars was that I felt like a lot was missing in translation, this was originally in German. Not to say that it was bad by any means, but it really felt lacking in some parts where I could tell it would've been stronger in its native language.

The artwork was beautiful, I loved the colors and the style and that's a huge reason for 2 of the 3 stars. I love the style so much and that alone had me wanting to read more.

Would still recommend this as a quick zombie read for anyone looking for some new zombie graphic novels. This wasn't quite as graphic as The Walking Dead, being that it's YA, but it does have some graphic moments,

I want to start this by saying that the artwork in this was beautiful. I also know that this book was translated into English from German I believe, so I think maybe that was why I struggled with the nuance of some of the dialogue. That being said I think the story had potential to be great but maybe due to me not really following the story, it was lackluster for me.

I was drawn to the art in the cover but the style wasn’t consistent throughout the story. This is just a personal preference, however.
There wasn’t enough worldbuilding. What caused the zombies? How are the weeds important? I had a lot of questions and no answers.
While the characters had complex issues, I still didn’t connect to them and didn’t really care what happened to them.
While I wanted to love this book, the lack of detail just didn’t work for me. Sadly, I won’t be picking up the next volume.

As amazing as Ever After sounded, I found the delivery to be lacking. Now, I do not think the author is at fault really, outside of not having any backstory on the zombie outbreak, I think the translation has lost something pivotal. The artwork is stylized and gripping, but with the quick pace of the story and translation issues I found my mind wandering off of the characters and focusing more on what I felt confused about. Also, trigger warning to the young adults who may need it, there is attempted suicide depicted. All in all, I found Ever After to be an interesting take on the Zombie narrative, but I wish the translation had been up to snuff.

Although the art was beautiful, unfortunately "Ever After" wasn't a graphic novel for me.

"Ever After" is about those two girls who run away from their city during a zombie apocalypse, each for their own reasons, and end up banding together to survive it. While the premise sounds pretty cool, and I always like to read spooky stories for this time of year, I felt like there was a lack of point to the plot.

It also left me with much more questions than answers (as it seemed it only gave half-answers anyway) at the end. I don't mind open-ended endings or anything like that, but I wished we at least got some answers about the zombie apocalypse and what made this particular apocalypse so unique, especially when the book says outright this is a different zombie apocalypse.

In the end, what saved this graphic novel for me was the art. It was beautiful and gritty, and I particularly liked the color palette. It worked so well with the story, and certainly made a lackluster confusing plot seem so much better than it was.

Nonetheless, I think this is a good graphic novel if you like zombie apocalypse books, and/or if you would like to pick up a spooky graphic novel for this upcoming spooky season. But keep in mind there is a lot of gore and body horror in this book, as well as a suicide attempt.

In a post-apocalyptic world, two travelers are stranded when a train breaks down. The countryside is filled with the undead and these two must try to survive. Originally published in German.

Trigger warnings for graphic violence and attempted suicide are easily seen as soon as you start the book which I appreciate. The first page is absolutely breathtaking. The art is museum worthy. The zombies are all done in grey tones and the contrast between them and the bright colors of the backgrounds and kids really sets the tone of the book.

Normally I am not a fan of zombie stories, but this is so much more than that. It is a complex story that will definitely be a re-read on my list.

Ever After left me with a strange taste in my mouth. The story is a bit confusing at the beginning and some flashbacks took me off the road.

The story is set in a post-apocalyptic Germany, where the zombies are walking around looking for 'food', following two girls Vivi and Eva who are fighting to survive.

Not only the zombie trope is "dark" but - most of all - the mental health, depression and agony made the whole thing darker.

I think my favourite part about this graphic novel is the artwork. The colours are vibrant & the illustrations are just great. Maybe if the story had lasted longer, it would have been better. I couldn't really empathize with the characters. and I'd like to knew a little bit more about their background.

Ever After is haunting, gritty, and powerful. The art style is very interesting and at moments stunning, while at other hard to absorb. There was a lot I liked about Ever After. The storytelling jumped around and at times I found it difficult to follow, but overall I really liked the story. I enjoyed this fresh take on the zombie apocalypse. Thank you to Vieweg, Lerner Publishing Group, and Netgalley for the opportunity to read Ever After in exchange for an honest review.

3/5 stars

I enjoyed the art of this graphic novel a lot and the original concept was amazing. The art was colorful but also intense which I think was perfect for the story. The concept as I said was amazing but the execution of it kinda lost me. I don't necessarily think it was a problem with the storytelling but could have more to do with the translation. The circumstances of the zombie apocalypse was never really explained or the zombies themselves.

Some parts of the story surrounding the characters were also not really explained, especially the ending, which just made me confused. I think the pacing was also off because periods of time passed and there was nothing to signal how long it actually was and it really threw me off. The timeline just didn't sit right withe me. I enjoyed the story overall, but I was just confused on the ending and how the zombie apocalypse existed.

I didn't really know what to expect from this so when I realized that I was about zombies I was very shocked, but I ended up really enjoying it! The main issue that I had with this book was I didn't feel like we knew enough about the characters for me to really care about their story. I was confused as to why things were happening and who people were. The only other complaint I had was sometimes I found the panels to be confusing, especially in the actions scenes. But other than that I really enjoyed reading this. The art was beautiful and the story was a lot of fun!

This was such a case of being drawn in by a stunning cover, only to be left feeling very disappointed. The beautiful cover art is not what you get in the actual novel itself, which isn't a deal breaker of course if the story makes up for it. Which it didn't. There was little to no world building, I didn't feel any connection to the characters, and the whole plot just seemed to jump all over the place. I got about half-way through and still felt lost and bored, so I made the decision to DNF.

I don't know where to start this review, because there isn't much to say. It's a wonderful premise; I was very excited to see some potential zombie/human f/f romance, and on some level that still comes through. Unfortunately, this feels like an unfinished sculpture-- you can understand the general shape of the original intentions, but there is no detail, and you can't appreciate it for what it was meant to be.

Like many other reviewers have said, the characters don't feel particularly fleshed out or nuanced, so I struggled to really care for them-- most often I was annoyed at one for being wimpy or the other for being mean, and not in a love-to-hate-them way. In addition to that, things just happened-- someone would have a vision, and then zombies would show up. A Wild Plot Element Appears. I actually don't think this has much to do with translation, since I never noticed particularly odd phrasing, but the story itself was quite odd... it didn't feel like it had meat to it.

I do want to note that I'm fine with slice of life meets zombies, but this wasn't really that, either. I often felt like I had missed several pages of context or action, because everything felt like... in-between. Getting from Point A to Point B. Unfortunately, though the ending seemed like it was intended to be poignant, this meant it wasn't. I wanted to feel so many things at the end of almost 300 pages, and I didn't!

Here's where, with a graphic novel, I'd usually say the art gave it the stars. That's almost true. The art can be dreamy and wonderful, particularly in landscape shots, but mostly suffers from being extremely samefaced and inexpressive. Both MCs (and any other girls their age) have the same face with different hair, basically, and the faces aren't very detailed.

You'll know if you've followed me long enough that I ADORE unconventional art; to name big favorites of mine which aren't perfectly detailed in their artistic representation I love Level Up, D*kes to Watch Out For, Can't We Talk About Something More Pleasant? and Hark! A Vagrant. Wildly different comics/narratives which each use their unique art styles to their advantage, without needing to look like something you'd see in a museum. That's completely doable... it just didn't happen here.

I couldn't give this book fewer than 3 stars, because the premise really is wonderful. I like the idea a lot, and I think the author has serious potential. I enjoyed reading the book, nothing majorly offended me... just a little lackluster. That's okay. I'd still read more from Vieweg.

I enjoy reading everything out-worldly, dark and creepy with a sense of dystopian in it, so this graphic novel came exactly at the right time.

This was such a gripping yet pleasurable reading for a dystopian graphic novel. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic Germany, where the zombies are walking around looking for 'food', following two girls Vivi and Eva who are fighting to survive.

The book deals with a traumatic beginning and I am not going to lie, this book is dark and associated with mental health, dealing with guilt, depression, physical change and the agony of the main characters. I mean..who will not be?!
But altogether has bits of friendship, hope, desire and helping one another in tough times.

What I like the most was the artwork and the fact that it depicts from real life, even though it is a zombie apocalypse, the girls are trying to help each other and make it to the nearest town safe.

But on the other hand I still have some questions at the end, which I cannot answer. Maybe it was because of the translation but I would have love the story to be more complex with a background story of the characters and how this zombie apocalypse came to 'life'
I received my copy from NetGalley in exchange for a honest review. Thank you so much for the copy

A good and easy read. Definitely gives off some Last of Us vibes. The ending was a bit predictable and I would have loved a bit more depth in the story, I feel like this was written more to convey the emotional aspect. The artwork is stylish in its simplicity and leaves enough for the imagination. Not my usual choice in book but I enjoyed branching out and would be happy to read more

The illustrations and the story were quite good. I jumped at the chance to read this due to the zombie aspect. At times it was hard to follow, possibly being translated. The story is interesting and if you are a graphic novel/Zombie reader, this is for you. Thank you to NG, the author, and publisher for allowing me to read this book.

This concept is very interesting and deep. I truly loved reading it and I cried a few times while reading it. The characters are relatable even though their situation isn't relatable at all. The artwork is immaculate and truly I will be thinking about this every time I see strawberries for quite some time.

a weird and twisted zombie apocalypse graphic novel.

my mind is spinning right now. there are so many open spots in this book and it’s all happening very fast, so you’re left with an empty feeling afterwards. a feeling of “wtf did i just read? what just happened?” mix all of that in with an unreliable narrator and a bunch of weird things happening so you’re not sure what’s real and what’s not, and you got yourself a mind fucking book. because there are so many empty spots, you can theorise and try to guess what it’s all about but you’re also not sure what really happened? if anything is real? if the maincharacter is completely insane and is actually alone in the world? or if only some of the characters are real? i really don’t know what all of my theories are about, i’m still trying to process this book. even though the book didn’t say anything about my theories being true, i still have a feeling something is not right. that we definitely didn’t see the whole picture. and it’s messing with me right now. can someone else read this so i have someone to talk to before i go insane too? am i already insane? is the book actually not mind fucking and i’m just a very confused person? did the book mess with me by me not knowing if it’s actually messing with me or not? now i feel like vivi, not knowing what’s real and what’s not. ahhHhh. am i reading too much into this? will i ever get answers to my questions?

i’m trying to get my mind together so i can write this review, but i keep thinking about the book and it’s messing with my head.

i read the book in one spot. the plot was happening so fast and i just couldn’t put it down. at one point, i checked the page count and noticed i was over halfway and i was kinda shocked, because it didn’t seem like i had been reading for very long.

the artstyle is gorgeous. i think it fits really well with the plot and the story and the gory parts. i will definitely check out the author’s other works! i might pick up one of her books in german.

thank you netgalley for providing me with an ebook version of this book in exchange for an honest review!
