Some good recipes. Will continue to try them. It is nice to have some healthier options in my household.
Unfortunately I don't think the author is vegan enough. Some recipes are good, but a lot had requirements to buy vegan products from the store to make basic recipes.. not a lot of inventiveness on the cooks part. I try to avoid using "fake" meat products like vegan sausage, so I was disappointed to find more cooking ways to enhance, vs. truly ways to eat plant based with natural, unprocessed food. Some of the recipes were tasty, but overall, the book was a bit of a letdown if you really want to try to eat more plant based in general and not just fill your diet with fake meat products.
I recommend this to anyone trying to cut fat in their diet. I have tried several recipes so far with good results.
This is a great, comprehensive book based on vegetables and how to cook at an almost basic level because of the recipes and discussions it includes, as well as how it seeks to teach readers how to cook some of the most basic foods and recipes. Also, this book is vegan and incorporates one of the most popular devices!
This cookbook has a great variety of recipes for breakfasts, mains, sides, snacks, salads, and desserts. An important part of cookbooks for me are the photographs as they're what initially attracts me to a recipe and is helpful in knowing what the outcome should look like. I wish this book had more photos, only 1/3 of the recipes do. However, there are little descriptions of each recipe, which is nice. The best part is the nutritional information, which is especially important for vegans to make sure they're getting all of their nutrients. Quite a few recipes also include tips, which are always helpful and nice to have. Overall it's a really great cookbook with amazing sounding recipes for a kitchen tool that is harder to think of new recipes for.
I love trying new and trendy gadgets in the kitchen, the air fryer is something I've toyed around with more a while but a lot of the recipes I see are meat so having this plant based bible for the air fryer is game changing!
Healthy Vegan Airfryer is a cookbook that really shows the versatility of air fryers. The book is full of awesome vegan recipes to create with your airfryer. The first section of breakfast foods made me question whether I was actually reading an airfryer book. I mean, can you really air-fry scones!?? I’m really looking forward to trying the cinnamon donut bites and the cauliflower casserole. The recipes utilized a huge variety of ingredients. If you’re a vegan or have an airfryer, or are just curious about either, then this book is for you!
Great recipes! Lots of ideas for eating healthy and with a vegan twist. It’s hard to find recipes that are vegan and for the air fryer,
Although the book is beautifully presented and extremely easy to follow, I feel like the recipes themselves were lacking in taste and interest. There were a lot of 'shortcuts' to make the recipe seem easier (such as using frozen pizza dough for rosemary flatbread) and several ingredients looked to be somewhat rare or with niche uses (such as aquafaba or agave nectar).
The recipes break down as follows: breakfasts, mains, sides, snacks, salads, desserts. There is a section with basics on air frying and an index. The recipes are Vegan in nature so use a lot of substitutions that I probably would never use since I am getting away from meat but not wanting to go full vegan. Recipes include banana bread, black bean burritos, tofu kebabs, cashew stir fry, lentil empanadas, carrot fries, onion rings, mini eggplants with tahini sauce, blooming onion, spicy kale chips, kale caesar salad, peach parfaits, etc.
One problem I had with the cookbook is that there are a lot of 'prepared' items to be used in the recipes. E.g., black bean burger burritos call for an ingredient of 4 black bean burgers. Breakfast sandwiches call for 4 veggie sausage patties. Tater tot casserole calls for a bag of vegan frozen tater tots. "Chorizo" and chickpea lettuce cups call for soy chorizo, casing removed, Trader Joe's recommended. Some will appreciate the shortcuts but for me, I wanted to make things with an air fryer that didn't mean re purposing existing packaged and prepared foods (whose ingredients and quality I cannot control).
Another problem I had is that I didn't like the recipes. A simple recipe to make bagels and had only 4 ingredients tasted like cardboard and came out brown on the outside and solid on the inside. They were completely inedible and looked nothing like the photograph despite only having a few steps! I can't even imagine where I must have gone wrong, either. But other recipes, too, were lacking in good flavor for me.
That said, all the recipes are vegan and suitable for an air fryer (whether it would be more convenient or better to use one in certain instances is debatable though). The recipes are beautifully presented, most with full color photographs of the finished product. Each recipe lists calories, fryer temp, prep and cook times, serving size and serving amount. The steps are simple 1-2 sentence numbered steps and the ingredients are clearly listed separately. The recipes are 1 color, black, but the choices in presentation (using bold and italics) were very smartly done. It's one of the easiest to read and use cookbooks that I have come across.
In the end, I was disappointed. I didn't find any interesting recipes and the ones I tried came out disastrously. But at least the recipes were easy to follow and I had an idea of what they were supposed to look like. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.
If you are new to using an air fryer, like I am, this book is a great tool to get more comfortable using it! It is perfect for beginners. Most of the recipes are quick, easy, and use ingredients readily available at your local grocery store. This book is also ideal for people who are not vegan, like me, but are looking to add more meatless options to their monthly meal planning. There really is something is this book for everyone. I love how every recipe includes nutritional information for those who watch their calorie and/or fat intake. I only wish this book contained more pictures of the delicious recipes!
I have an air-fryer and I am always looking for new recipes. This is a nice little cookbook for those who eat a vegan diet and want something quick and easy. I tend to also eat gluten-free and made note that many recipes use all-purpose flour, I'll make a substitution with those.
I So Wanted to Like This Book, But…
As a vegetarian who dabbles on occasion with strict veganism, I'm always drawn to vegan books when I find them at my favorite book review sites. After all, just because I consider myself more vegetarian doesn't mean that a lot of my meals aren't vegan; they are. The author of this book admits right in the first paragraph that she is not an expert on vegan recipes, though she considers herself to be an air fryer expert. Unfortunately, her lack of vegan expertise strongly comes across in this cookbook. I've been vegetarian long enough—and even when I ate meat, I wasn't a huge fan of it—that I don't feel the need to use a lot of meat analogs or non-dairy cheeses. I feel like the author fell into that trap here. One can easily create recipes for a vegan diet that don't include analogs and substitutes. You just have to think about how to best use vegetables, fruits, grains, beans, and nuts in your recipes. Your wraps can be, say, inspired by omnivore wraps, but you should make uniquely vegan ones instead of just substituting the omni ingredients. For instance, this cookbook has a recipe for a sausage and kale breakfast wrap that uses vegan sausage and vegan egg substitute. Frankly, that just sounds icky to me! You can make lovely vegan wraps without those kinds of ingredients. And this continues throughout the book. Rather than the author being creative with the lovely rainbow of natural, unprocessed vegan foods, she relies heavily on analogs and substitutes.
I also thought some recipes were too simple, relying heavily on store-bought ingredients. Not that every recipe needs to be made from scratch, but a recipe’s ingredient list shouldn't just (or mostly) be processed, purchased foods. Having grown up in California, I enjoy Mexican food, but I don't think the author has as much familiarity as she should since she is creating what we would construe as Mexican food. For instance, a lentil enchilada recipe uses green salsa for the sauce. I've eaten a lot of enchiladas, both at home and at restaurants, and never has just plain salsa ever been the sauce! Usually, it is a cooked sauce made from spices and chiles—and I don't mean chili like bowls full of chili, but rather from chiles or chile powder. (Yes, there are a variety of enchilada sauces out there—cream based, tomatillo based, etc., but the standard red one served in Mexican restaurants is full of spices and chile.) Now, that's not to say that I didn't find some of these cookbook’s ideas interesting. I had never thought to do homemade taquitos in an air fryer. That's one I think I'll try. So, ultimately, I was disappointed in the quality of recipes in this book, though I did find a few interesting ideas and techniques.
A great resource especially for vegans with an air fryer who have no idea what to do with it. Seriously, I bought one over a year ago and haven’t used it until I found this book! Great recipes and techniques!
All my favorite things wrapped up in one delicious cookbook?? Yes, please! Not only vegan, but all recipes for the air fryer, my current favorite appliance.
Most of these recipes look amazing (3 ingredient bagels???), and I love the idea that I can make these in the heat of summer (I have no air conditioning) and not heat up my house. Lots of new ideas I haven't thought of trying until now (like taquitos and spaghetti squash)
Some problems I see is the need to buy multiple smaller accessories to be able to do certain recipes in the air fryer. Like individual muffin cups, mini loaf pans, etc. Obviously I already have all these since I'm a kitchen appliance and gadget hoarder. BUT I'm sure there's normal people out there that will have to consider this.
Also you'll want to have the size of air fryer in mind too. Mine is fairly small so things like the banana breads will have to be done one a time, and there's no way I can fit 8 muffin liners in mine. So you'll have to decide if the convenience of using the air fryer will be worth it over the oven. Some textures though, the air fryer just cannot be beat.
I'm very excited about this cookbook!
"Healthy Vegan Air Fryer Cookbook" is a vegan cookbook that focused on recipes that use an air fryer. The book was mainly recipes as it contained only a brief introduction to air fryers and vegan eating. The author used store-bought vegan butter, vegan cheese, vegan mayonnaise, etc., in many of the recipes. She often used canola oil, which isn't healthy, especially if you use a GMO canola. Basically, the author didn't always choose healthy ingredients. She also sometimes had you cook several servings in a row when it didn't all fit in the air fryer--and using an oven would make more sense. While I can use some of these recipes, I'll have to modify them a lot.
She included 18 recipes for breakfast, 25 recipes for main dishes, 17 recipes for sides, 24 recipes for snacks and salads, and 17 recipes for desserts. The recipes provided the preparation time, cooking time, fryer temp, serving size, ingredients, instructions, and tips. Each recipe included nutritional data for calories, total fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbs, fiber, sugar, and protein. There was usually only two or three pictures of a finished recipe in each section of recipes.
Great resource! Many great tips and vegan recipes for your air fryer. Recipes have every day ingredients and lots of full colour pictures (my fav in any recipe book!)
* I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
As a new air fryer owner (and a vegan), I absolutely love this book! I think the recipes are unique and bring a certain zest to everyday vegan life. Not only are the recipes fun, but they come out perfect every time which is so nice since air fryers can vary in terms of quality. I have enjoyed all the recipes I have tried.
I had been looking for a book that would give me more options for healthy cooking and since I just bought an air fryer, this book seemed perfect. I really liked the variety of recipes as I am a picky eater for sure. There are some great condiment suggestions as well, which makes this a very well rounded cookbook!
This cookbook made my mouth water! Though I do not currently have an air fryer, these recipes have made me more determined than ever to get one.
I love my airfryer! I mainly use it for boring stuff like frozen fries. This book inspired me to try new things with my airfryer but in a healthier way. I can't wait to try out more recipes!
