I enjoyed this one.
Keep in mind that it's book 9 and, starting here, quite a bit was lost when it came to relationships in the book. However, I soon understood just enough to enjoy the characters.
The villain is truly chilling and I felt so sorry for the victims in this one. Such a horrid crime!
The book was a touch too long - the story ended quite a bit before the book actually did (fluff at the end) - but it was a good read and I'd read the author again!
I adore this series and the cases never disappoint. Great characters and a tense, gripping plot, as usual.
Detective Kane and Alton are back in the 9th book in the series
This time they are relaxing at the ski resort on a holiday when Dave spots body parts hanging from a tree. With the help of FBI consultants Jo Wells and Carter will they be able to catch the killer in the time before more bodies turn up?
The Shallow Grave is another brilliant read in this great series. A fast paced thriller with an explosive action packed ending made for an engaging interesting read .. looking forward to reading the next one in the series
Her shallow grave by D.K Hood.
This is Detective Kane and Alton book 9 in the series.
Jenny and Dave are back. This time they are at the ski resort when Dave spots body parts hanging from a tree.
Can they catch the killer before more bodies turn up?
Wow another brilliant read in this great series. I love Jenna and Dave. They work so well together. And this phrase
“That guy don’t need no weapon. He is a weapon.”the man described Kane acritly.
Omg wow. Full of action and gore. I Iove this series. Cant wait to read book 10. 5*.
This is the ninth book in this series. It follows Detective Jenna Alton and David Kane, set in Montana. The wonderful, snow filled setting was brought to life to vividly in my mind thanks to the authors brilliant writing style.
When a body is discovered, Kane and Alton start an investigation. Starting at the scene, they are alarmed as their search uncovers more bodies beneath the snow. They have to work fast to catch the murderer before anyone else is killed.
The story was written brilliantly, and kept me on the edge of my seat at times!. I found it difficult to put this book down until the case was solved and the murderer was uncovered.
Brilliant, well paced, an absolute page turner!. I can't wait to read more books from this series.
*I received a copy of this book via Netgalley in return for my honest review.*
This is the ninth book in this series and follows Detective Jenna Alton and David Kane in Montana.
The snow has set in for winter which brings the tourists flocking to the area. I found the surroundings almost like another character in this book. I found myself huddling up as my mind was taken to freezing cold Montana.
When a body is found, Alton and Kane investigate the scene and are alarmed when more bodies are unearthed, what has the snow been hiding? What follows is a cat and mouse game with the suspected killer, as they try to stop more murders from happening.
A really well written book, I shall definitely be going back to read the rest of the series
It's just another day ...or so .. in the life of Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane. The first body found is that of a woman ... she's frozen and she's hanging from a tree.
When Alton and Kane investigate, they find this is only the beginning. There are multiple burial sites nearby. Who are these women? There are no missing women reports ..so where have they come from? And how did they get here?
When Alton and Kane are thwarted time and time again, the killer seems to be able to stay two steps ahead of them. The killer might be closer than they think ... and that puts Alton in the cross hairs.
As with all the book in series, this is well written, suspense filled thriller. The action is non- stop and filled with twists and turns that swirl around the solidly drawn characters. Although 9th in the series, this is easily read as a stand alone, but I highly recommend starting at the beginning. The ongoing character development is superb and the crimes are riveting.
Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Her Shallow Grave is book 9 in the Detectives Kane and Alton procedural series.
Having read all of the previous books in this series to date I can honestly say they only get better !!!! They can be read as standalone but it’s more enjoyable to read them in order as the characters and personal stories evolve throughout the series!
There’s a killers on the loose in Black Rocks falls who is chopping up women’s body parts and putting them on display and is known as “The Sculptor” and it’s Sheriff Alton’s job to find him with the help of her team!
Her Shallow Grave is dark, grisly and thrilling and kept me hooked from beginning to end!
Thanks to the author, Bookouture and NetGalley for the advance copy of Her Shallow Grave my review is honest and unbiased in any way.
This is the ninth book in this series featuring Detective Jenna Alton and her deputy Dave Kane. It is winter in Black Rock Falls with heavy snow. It appears that they have a serial killer on their patch as whilst Jenna and Dave are enjoying a ski break he discovers a frozen and dismembered body of a young woman hanging from a tree. As more bodies are discovered it becomes apparent that the killer is targeting young girls who are homeless as they are difficult to trace. These are horrific murders as the killer freezes their bodies after he has slaughtered them. The tension builds as Jenna closes in in the killer and puts her own life in danger. This is a very shocking storyline with plenty of twists and turns and full of suspense. Another brilliant book in this series, a definite 5*.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
The Kane & Alton series have become one my favorite series to read. D. K. Hood has the ability to create such action-packed & suspenseful books, that I always look forward to reading a book from this series. She creates the most depraved & vile murderers & lets them loose in Black Rock Falls. It's always fun to see how Kane & Jenna respond & see it through till the end. Her Shallow Grave was an exciting & compelling read that I finished in less than a day. I love just all the characters in this series - Jenna, Dave, Shane, Rowley. They make an interesting team. Since Jenna has just this small team at her disposal it's always interesting to see her work with them & the team dynamics. After 9 books I would have definitely loved to see Kane & Wolfe show some emotional & physical vulnerability making them human but they always seem to be at the top of their game - almost robotic. I love that they are smart & strong, but it sometimes feels almost TOO perfect.
I certainly love the plot in this one - gave me the creeps till the end. I kind of figured out who the killer was but that's maybe because I'm getting familiar with the writing style. However, this didn't make a big dent in the opinion I have about this book & series. I'm looking forward to the next book - I hope there's something about the impending event in there. I'm still a big fan of Kane & Alton & cant wait to see what they come up with next.
Thank You, NetGalley, Bookouture & D. K. Hood for an arc!
Great book, unfortunately I didn’t realize their were several book previous books in the series. I’m going to have to go back and read the rest of the series.
Can you believe it, this is already the ninth book in the series?? I can't, but please don't stop!
The relationship between Jenny and Kane is so sweet, and the way they work together to solve killer crimes, its really well done, and I can't wait for some more! Highly recommended.

Terrific suspense!! I really enjoy the series with Jenny and Kane. The relationship between the two is great. Highly
recommend all of DK Hoods' books in this series. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookoutour for a copy of Her
shallow grave.
This author is new to me and wowza I just went and purchased the rest. I can’t wait to binge read. As I have said this genre has become a favorite. I can’t get enough.
Another cracking read in a great series! This series just gets better and better. I love the relationship between Jenna and Kane and look forward to seeing how it will develop. The storyline kept you guessing and with the additional kidnapping and attempted murder it just kept you gripped from the first page to the last. Highly recommend, both the series and the author
I really enjoyed this book and will give it a huge thumbs up. With a great story line and excellent main characters - I would highly recommend this book.
5 stars
This is the ninth book in the Detectives Kane and Alton series by D.K.. Hood.
When Jenna, Kane and Wolfe go on a ski weekend, they discover a dead body on the slopes nailed to a tree. They have uncovered yet another serial killer in their neck of the woods.
This book was great. They didn’t just track the Sculptor/Preacher but there was a nasty gal who fixated on Kane and tried to kill Jenna. These stories just keep getting better and better. And I am hooked.
I think Jenna is finally coming around to the idea that she has feelings for Kane and it shows in this book a lot. In previous books, I kind of wondered about her relationship with Wolfe but here it seems to be clearly stated that they are just like brother and sister. Love the whole dynamic of this cast. It just keeps me coming back for more.
If you love a good police procedural, detective fiction or crime thriller, definitely check this one out.
I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title.
The snow is lying thick on the ground and frozen bodies are being found. Frozen by man, not nature. A serial killer is killing women, cutting them up with a chainsaw and then making 'art' with the pieces. It is a grisly case for Alton and Kane but absolutely superb!
The personal life of Jenna and Dave gets more complicated as they deal with a stalker and Jenna's life is put in danger. I was hoping once again for more romance to develop between them but he is still mourning his wife.
We get to see the killer at work and his kidnap victims. This is hugely emotive as we gain a little sympathy for his past but mostly abject horror at his current actions. We are willing for his latest abductee Ava to escape but fear the worst due to the discovery that he may have killed dozens of women.
The pace of the action in Her Shallow Grave is fast and furious. The tension created by the plot and our witnessing the hostages and killer is maintained throughout. The ending was dramatic and I had no idea which of the suspects would turn out to be the killer.
DK Hood's Kane and Alton series is such good quality, hooking the reader from the first to the last page. Each book could be read as a stand alone novel but I think reading the series as a whole is best to enjoy the progression on the characters and their relationships, both personal and professional.
This is an incredible series. I have read them all I can’t sing their praises enough. The recurring characters are all so lovable and I love Kane & Altons chemistry. I feel like I know Black Rock Falls as well as my own town now. I hope the series doesn’t end any time soon.
If you love gruesome murders then this is the book for you. I had no idea who the killer was and was kept guessing throughout. It’s written so well, I was hooked from the start and couldn’t put it down. I love that we get to know the main characters more with every book. My only issue is that Jenna is pretty badass and the boss but she always seems to need Kane's approval or for him to saver her ass.
I received a copy of the ebook via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
Omg would Jenna and Dave just get it on already! If the chemistry between the tour of them sizzled anymore, they would be needing a fire engine not a sheriff!!!
Ahem. Anyway.
Snow is everywhere in the latest installment from D.K Hood, as are snowmen. Now unfortunately, they aren’t the Olaf from Frozen kind….before you get too excited! Perhaps the scenes in the book are like those from a Disney film gone majorly wrong….or not. Gosh, how sinister would that be! Sorry, I’m veering off again.
Right – book number 9 already and, having been with this series since book 1, I can only hope we have many more installments to coke! Kane and Alton are probably one of my most favourite fictional duo because of the way they feed off each other, and their chemistry. The banter between the pair is hilarious as well which definitely helps!
The team have their work cut out as once again, a dodgy individual has claimed Black Rock Falls as their residence for committing a murder….or two….or three. Unfortunately Jenna finds herself slap bang in the middle of something completely unrelated to their original case. Without giving too much away, my heart was in my mouth and I had a horrible feeling come over me! If you’ve read the book you may be able to work out which bit I’m on about, and if you have, did you feel the same? No spoilers obviously!
I loved how Dave’s armour was knocked away a smidge in this book. Its very rare for this character to show emotion and what not, so the fact he was able to let that out was amazing to see as it made me realise that he isn’t a human with no warmth, no feeling to him, he’s an actual warm blooded, thoughtful human who cares deeply about those he feels he can trust.
Once again D.K.Hood has not minced her words AT ALL, carving another absolutely BRILLIANT novel with chilling scenes that will get right under your skin and into your bones. Her character formation is second to none. What I loved most was the way in which she describes every miniscule detail as though it is the most important piece of information in the world. Because of that, the entire storyline came life meaning that I was able to envision each and every action. Unnerving, yes, but so worth it.
This is a series you do NOT want to miss out on! Loved it!
