Nina’s life, since ex’s ran away with all the money, is her book. Since her ex left her and her children in a wreck of a house in Cornwall, penniless with only her friends to make it slightly better. Although she now has writers block to add to her troubles! Then life appears to change they want to turn her book into a Hollywood film .

A good summer read, good characters added to that just makes you long for Cornwall.

Nina has her hands full juggling 2 children, an ex with a gambling problem, a run down farmhouse and a writing career. An unexpected event happens which involves her meeting people from Hollywood and having an actor wanting to write the screenplay with her for her first book. Will her future be golden, will there be problems ahead? It's wonderful to see how her life will pan out before her.
A lovely read and I'd be keen to read more by Nancy Barone

Wanted to like this book...but I cringe at those books where, if the author can make everything wrong for the heroine, they do it. Really not my cup of tea, unfortunately, coupled by the bratty tween/teen girl and the stereotype that the girl is furious at her mum for her good-for-nothing father leaving... Nope, couldn't take it, sorry. Just once, could those books please start with a heroine who is down on her luck but this is 'normal' and not over the top?

What a heartwarming story! A throughly enjoyable book, such a lovely read! Cant wait to see what more this author has to offer! This book was right up my street!

I fell in love with this book immediately! The storyline was brilliant, and the characters and their individual traits made it all the more endearing.
And I have to say, the ending just melted my heart! A perfect, heartwarming read.

A lovely story of Nina, author and single Mum struggling to survive and do her best for her two children, despite being hampered in her efforts by a toad of an almost ex-husband. Supported by her two best friends, Emma and Jack, Nina has managed to overcome a lot in the three years since Phil left her with nothing, including no money, but a run down Cornish cottage.
Swept off her feet by Hollywood royalty, Luke, Nina finds herself in a whirlwind of professional and personal commitments, plans and dreams, for it all to, inevitably, come crashing down.
This is a story of a mother’s love for her children above everything else, of friendship and of not seeing the very thing you need right under your nose.
I really enjoyed reading this book, right up until the last chapter where it all went a bit silly. It didn’t entirely spoil it for me, and I loved the final bit of the ending & the epilogue, but the last chapter was too farcical for me & means the book went from five to four stars in my view.

Nina has it all – at first glance. Great kids and a solid relationship with them, two good friends who know everything and love her anyway and is a ‘Sunday Times bestselling’ author. But her ex-husband still won’t sign the divorce papers, ran away with all their money, is half-committed to spending time with his kids, and has a gambling addiction. Which leaves Nina working all hours, struggling to make ends meet, worried about her daughter’s increasingly snappy attitude and her son’s disability and leg brace. But her agent has a surprise – turning her little ‘semi-autobiographical’ set of stories into film.

This brings a series of complications, and an unexpected windfall –but a new series of battles to fight to keep the ‘feel’ of her story with an established Hollywood star who wants to co-write and produce her film. Of course, he’s gorgeous and says all the right things: but his habit of steamrolling her with already fixed decisions, his difficulties with ‘fitting in’ with her friends and the constant ‘set-tos’ that they have about the script.

Nina is a lovely character who has spent far too much time trying to be ‘everything’ for everyone and putting her own life and wishes to the side. She’s also refreshingly naïve when it comes to her own attractiveness and the ‘helpfulness’ of her neighbor. He’s head over heels, and she’s unaware of the connection – and with everything else going on, and the locals having their two cent opinions (and plenty of gossip) she’s torn. With the scenery and small-village feel, the obvious connection between Nina and her kids, and the lovely struggles of ‘taking your book to the next level, without losing the sense of the story’, the story is a wonderful read that will leave you believing in second chances and wanting to go to Cornwall.

Great read - makes you want to visit Cornwall!

Rarely are characters as legitimately likable as Nina Conte. Smart, funny, and at ease with her convictions, she’s the levelheaded heart of her own story. Though really, it’s author Nancy Barone’s keen sense of character and dialogue that has Nina feeling like a genuine person right from the very first page. Not only that, she comes across as a friend dishing out a good story over lunch and a glass of wine … well, with Nina, a glass of cider might be more appropriate.

And it’s a good story. Financial woes. Hollywood deals. Rebellious children. Secrets tucked behind every page. While somehow keeping things light, Barone lays the drama on thick while always remaining grounded—not an easy feat when it comes to stories set around the entertainment industry. Perhaps it’s because she’s peppered in a charming cast of characters who help catapult things along. Or maybe it’s because the action feels rooted in a Cornish village so charming that it’s disappointing it’s not real. More likely, it’s a combination of the many little things that make Barone’s expert writing feel alive.

Perhaps the most exciting part, though, comes from the most common element: the romance. On paper, Luke O’Hara, handsome and the would-be pick of many starstruck fans, seems like an obvious match for Nina. However, love is complicated, and Nina’s sensible approach forces them both to consider what they really want. The end result allows for a few surprises while remaining immensely satisfying. Somewhere along the way, it becomes impossible not to root for Nina to find her own bit of happiness.

Devilishly funny and utterly charming, New Hope for the Little Cornish Farmhouse is a perfect romance.

This was a wonderful read from Nancy Barone. I read it over two evenings as I was really taken by the story. I felt so sorry for Nina but I have great respect for her tenacity. Left on her own with two children she really fought her way back which I admired. It was a real page turner and a brilliant read for a lazy summer day. I really enjoyed the ups and downs of the story. I loved it.

Good storyline. great charcters, the story flowed really well, and it was a fun read. I sat and read this in the garden and it was a great way to while away an afternoon.

When I first started to read this I thought it was about the author but laughed at myself when I realized it was the start of the novel. I got into this novel very quickly and what a lovely novel it was. Very well written and held my interest right to the end, I wish it hadn't ended when it did, I would loved to have been able to stay with the characters for a lot longer. Well worth 5 stars and I recommend you get a copy to enjoy as I have done. Well done Nancy Barone, great book, can't wait for your next one.

This book is set in Cornwall and in my opinion would be a good read whilst on a summer holiday.
Nina (an author and the main character) has lots of problems to deal with, her ex, her rebellious daughter, her tumbledown farmhouse and the dreaded writers block
The story follows her as she deals with these problems alongside her friendships & live interests.
I like this book as the characters were likeable & normal. There is a mix of hope, humour and romance within the story.

Nina's problems doesn't stop. She moved with her ex to a house severely damaged that he was supposed to fix up, but he decided to leave Nina instead of making such excruciating effort. Her rebellious daughter is getting more difficult every minute and her beautiful and handicapped son is still so young to live all that's happening to them.
But still, even at the worst time, she can count with her best friends, Emma and Jack.
Nina is a writer. She has three books published but a fourth is not on the making. Not for lack of trying for luck of ideas. So, the horizon is not bright at the moment.
And then, she gets the call.
I liked this story. It's full of bright characters, and the pace is good. He author found the right mix between hope, humor and reality. Well done!

Oh my I loved jack in this he was gentle and kind and just lovely. I loved the friendship from the whole village and the love given to the family from the whole village.
Alice the agent was funny and sharp and lovely Luke was a dish!
The characters were great and I thought this book was fab.

A sweet summer read, perfect for your back garden in the sun. It’s an entertaining story with lovely characters, an amazing journey for Nina , friendships and of course romance. An interesting story of the everyday to stardom, friends to love. It’s a fun, light read and one I recommend

The world thinks Nina has a great life: She's a published best-selling novelist, has a lovely farmhouse in Cornwall and a perfect family life. However, the reality is very different - her husband has left her and she is struggling to make ends meet, feed and clothe the children. That is until she is told that a Hollywood film company wants to
adapt one of her books and she needs to spend some time with the handsome actor who is to help her adapt the script.
This is your classic will-they-won't they romance with a great setting (I just love anything set in Cornwall) and some really captivating characters. I loved it.
A perfect read for a long summer's day or even a soggy day in June. Just make sure you've nothing else to do that day.
