What a pleasant and woefully underrated book Cobble Hill is! It's a gentle and quiet look at couples in Brooklyn's Cobble Hill, with all the ups and downs of their lives. Also, the dialogue? So well done, it feels as if you can hear everyone speaking!
Cobble Hill is a charming and (very welcome!) escapist read that celebrates the power of connection.

Felt incomplete. I like Von Ziegesar’s previous work and I knew this was going to be an adult book verses her gossip girl series but I still missed the mark with this one.
I started reading because of Gossip Girl but I stayed because of the outrageous personalities of all the Brooklyn neighbors. The plot was silly but entertaining enough to finish the book. I think plot could've been stronger but I would still read future books from the author.
Read but was not terribly memorable. I am clearing out the books published in 2020 from my "to review" shelf!
This was such a fan Nanny Diaries type of book. I wasn't sure I'd like it, but I definitely did!! Great writing, that flowed well and didn't seem to drag out.
Welcome to Cobble Hill.
In this eclectic Brooklyn neighborhood, private storms brew amongst four married couples and their children. There’s ex-groupie Mandy, so underwhelmed by motherhood and her current physical state that she fakes a debilitating disease to get the attention of her skateboarding, ex-boyband member husband Stuart. There’s the unconventional new school nurse, Peaches, on whom Stuart has an unrequited crush, and her disappointing husband Greg, who wears noise-cancelling headphones—everywhere.
A few blocks away, Roy, a well-known, newly transplanted British novelist, has lost the thread of his next novel and his marriage to capable, indefatigable Wendy. Around the corner, Tupper, the nervous, introverted industrial designer with a warehose full of prosthetic limbs struggles to pin down his elusive artist wife Elizabeth. She remains…elusive. Throw in two hormonal teenagers, a ten-year-old pyromaniac, a drug dealer pretending to be a doctor, and a lot of hidden cameras, and you’ve got a combustible mix of egos, desires, and secrets bubbling in brownstone Brooklyn.
Smart, sophisticated, yet surprisingly tender, Cobble Hill is highly entertaining portrait of contemporary family life and the colorful characters who call Brooklyn home.
Overall, this book was cute, and a quick read! I enjoyed it!
COBBLE HILL is a fun and bingeable read. I picked up the book because of my familiarity with the area and loved getting to know the quirky characters in this story.
As a Gossip Girl stan, I was so excited to pick up Cecily's new book Cobble Hill. As a Brooklyn resident, I am familiar with the area and thought the neighborhood descriptions were spot on. I love reading books about quirky and unloveable characters in New York, however this felt a little flat for me. I was a bit confused at the end, and the story dragged a bit.
I really wanted to like this book. I was intrigued by the description and tried to get into it but alas, it was not for me. I didn’t finish this book but I hope others enjoy it.
My rating scale:
5☆ - I loved this book and it brought out true emotion in me (laughter, anger, a good cry, etc)
4☆ - I loved this book.
3☆ - I liked this book.
2☆ - I didn't really care for this book.
1☆ - I did not like this book at all and probably did not finish it.
These days, in a time when many people have moved out to the suburbs, we just don’t have the same bond with our neighbors. We might wave as we pull into our garage; we might greet each other at the neighborhood park. But in Cobble Hill by Cecily von Ziegesar, the residents of one Brooklyn neighborhood find their lives strangely intertwined...

As someone who enjoyed reading the Gossip Girl series as a teen, I enjoyed this book very much. It was fun to revisit the author's style while reading a more adult-focused story.
I've tried to read this book twice now and just couldn't get into it either time. I wasn't able to connect with any of the characters. I was intrigued by the premise of this one and really wanted to like it but in the end, it just wasn't for me.
I loved Gossip Girl, but I guess I've grown up since this because I didn't find this book funny or interesting. I wish I had, because the concept was really cool.
DNF - did not finish. I could not connect with the writing style/plot so I decided to not pick this one up. Thank you, NetGalley and publisher for the early copy!
I like any book that is set in New York, so this one had an advantage right away. It's a great summer read, written as if it is waiting to be adapted for television.
I tried and failed to get into this book. It was so many lists as a highly anticipated book, but it wasn’t for me. I just couldn’t care about the characters, and there wasn’t much of a plot. 2 stars.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
DNF at 10%. I have an issue with faking illnesses for attention and with something serious as MS I couldn't keep reading this story.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Another great read from Cecily. A fun read that just makes me want to go to New York again. Wonderfully complex characters with great story.
I wanted to love this but I went in thinking it was going to be adult Gossip Girl and I was disappointed on page one.
I didn’t finish this book and I honestly hate that I got to page 20 before quitting.
