This is a series that I’m really enjoying, and I’m looking forward to reading book 3 very soon! However, as I did with book 1, I struggled with Paige as a character. Although she’s likeable at times, she’s sometimes quite annoying and I find myself getting frustrated because of her. It was because of this that I took away 1 star from my rating. I really liked the storyline in this one, and it was a very easy book to read. I was hooked quickly and it was hard to stop reading at times. I liked the suspense, and I was surprised by the twist. I couldn’t predict what was going to happen, which I loved. A great thriller and one that I definitely recommend, although I think it’s best to read this series in order.
Psychological suspense where a British Sign Language Interpreter is the amateur detective. The story has depth and originality. Paige brings an emotional element to the story as she has connections with the deaf community, which the police detectives don't. This story is atmospheric and suspenseful, with the potential suspects keeping secrets. The plot is well written, and the ending is surprising.
I received a copy of this book from Avon Books UK via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
I still love the main character and definitely feel as though this story isn't so obvious about what the outcome will be. It definitely made it a quick read despite the length!
This is a great psychological thriller where a woman called Paige, who is a sign language interpreter helps to investigate at a school for the deaf., alongside the police. A teenager called Leon has gone missing and a teacher has been found dead. Can Paige and the police find out who done it? The storyline is very good and the characters and locations of the book are well described. I also learned new things about deaf people and the deaf community, as well as what education is like for deaf people, so that was interesting to me.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and Net Galley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first of a new series with BSL interpreter Paige Northwood. I loved the characters and it’s unique as have never read a book where the main language of the investigation is BSL.
Great book.
Thanks to Avon books an NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
For the second time, Paige Northwood has been asked to interpret for the police. Trying to make a living as a freelance Interpreter for the deaf has not been great, so she jumps at the opportunity when the police call.
A deaf teenager has gone missing from his school, and a teacher has been found dead. Police question everyone on staff and the students, only to find they all are hiding something. Paige is hiding something too, she has a history with one of the suspects..
I did enjoy the book, but I felt it wasn't as thrilling as the first book. I could have done without the extra boyfriend drama that kept popping up. But overall a great read and would recommend it.
Loved this! So good, so exciting, so gripping and great story. Can't wait to read more by this author - absolutely brilliant.
Having a daughter who wears hearing aids, I couldnt wait to read this. Lots of twists and turns and I connected with the characters. Great tension which had me turning the pages . Bit of romance thrown in as well. This is number 2 in the series but you can read as a standalone.
Paige is a Sign Language interpreter and is brought in by the police investigating the murder of a teacher and disappearance of a teenager while on a school camping trip. Paige becomes very invested in this disappearance and the reader can empathise with her, and relate to her feelings. Trying to figure out the person who did it is tough, you will be led in all directions here and you will laugh each time you are wrong because you almost knew it was too obvious each time!
I think more of the story and some less of Paige and her own life would be better, but a good mystery nonetheless
This was very interesting. The cover captured my attention followed by the blurb, I just had to request it.
It follows Paige Northwood who is an interpreter for the deaf community. She's asked to interpret for the police after a teacher is found dead at a school excursion.
This is book 2 but can be read as a Standalone.
Finding the culprit is not easy. Not when they think they're smarter than the cops.
Investigations begin at the school, and lies, secrets, betrayals are shockingly revealed.
I totally wasn't expecting the murderer to be that person. Unbelievable! There were other suspects that I thought were the culprits, mainly because of their fraud, lies, hatred and misunderstandings with the teacher.
Soon after, another person is murdered on school grounds with the cops and everyone around. Who could be so daring?
Aside from all these, there's a student missing who might just be the answer to the unsolved questions. Where is he?
I love this book soooo much. It's beyond intriguing, at times emotional too.
This is another great story by the author that I enjoyed from the beginning to the end.
Same great writing , characters that you either love or hate for their own stupid actions and a few twists that kept me on the edge throughout the book.
A suspenseful story overall that brings so much awareness about deafness and the group of people that have to live with it.
This is my first read by Nell Pattison and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised at how well this book was written and how it grabbed my attention from the very beginning!
I love how Nell Pattison used the different type of characters with the Deaf school students and the deaf interpreter with Paige. It opened my eyes to a lot of different things that deaf people have to go through and what might be assumed of them.
When a group of kids goes on an overnight trip in the woods, no one expected something to go wrong, or for something to happen to 2 of those attending. No one heard anything in the night, but when they wake up in the morning, Leon is missing and so is a teacher. Did the teacher go out and look for him? Upon further inspection of the area by the police when they get there, the teacher is found dead but Leon is still missing. Who could know something about Leon that they aren't telling?
Paige is sort of thrown off her game when she realizes that her ex-boyfriend that treated her so badly in previous years now works for the school. Will Paige be able to put their past relationship aside and so her job or will he get to her too much?
When Paige starts noticing the same vehicle in places she is going, she starts to question things. Is someone following her? Do they have something they need to tell her about the case she is working on? You will have to read this one to find out what happens! You won't regret picking this one up and reading it. Nell Pattison did a very fine job with this read and you will long for more!
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book and all opinions are my own. Thanks for Netgalley, the publisher and the author for an advanced copy of this book!
This was such an interesting concept with a hearing impaired interpreter helping to solve mysteries. It’s very rare that stories delve into this subject matter and it makes for a well written story.
Another excellent book in this series even if I am reading them out of order. Believable characters and a strong storyline are sustained throughout with the added bonus that you end the book feeling better informed about the practicalities of living in the deaf community.
I didn't realise this was the second book in a series when I started it but luckily its a book you can dive right into without having read the first. I listened to the audiobook and was delighted to hear a narration from a hearing impaired person. As someone who teaches disabled young adults finding representation is hard. This book was full of suspense. The characters where brilliant and I didn't find myself getting annoyed with their decisions like I do with some other thrillers. Definitely worth a read or a listen.
I had it, started reading then it disappeared. I’m guessing I timed out on it, sorry not able to give a true review.
As a hearing impaired person myself, I was interested to read this book set in a school for deaf children. They are taken on a field trip that has disastrous consequences. There are many red herrings in this book, but it is an interesting read with some rather horrible characters described. A good and different read.
This is the second book in a series featuring Paige Northwood. I have not read the first book so this was my first introduction to life in the hearing impaired community. The plot was strong with lots of twists. I enjoyed getting to know Paige.
The plot was a clever one as it is set in a teen environment without focusing only on teens, so plenty to keep us on our toes . Every time I thought I knew who did it, the plot would shift! A great way to keep me turning the pages.
Thanks to Net galley.
While some parts of this dragged a bit, overall I really enjoyed this book. I did figure it out a little early on but I'm a bit of a true crime junkie.
I went into this book with no knowledge about it so it was interesting to read a book based in a deaf community. I was unaware that this was part of a series until after I finished it. It can be read as a standalone but think it might be better after reading book 1.
I loved Nell's debut, Silent House and this second book of the series certainly did not disappoint. I love that not only do we get a juicy murder mystery but that we also get snippets of Paige's private life and history. 10 out of 10 for me and I already can't wait for the 3rd book.
