Hannah Goodbody loves living in Stockholm and running her exclusive accessories shop. When she bumps into her brother Rob’s old school friend, Nico, Hannah finds him very different to the boy she once knew. Hannah however, has other things on her mind than worrying about her old friend. Her boyfriend Albin is acting strangely and when she suddenly loses her shop and her home she decides to move back home to Middledip.
Hannah moves in with her Nan who is recovering after a fall and is surprised to find that Nico has also moved to the village.
They both have their own problems but with attraction quickly growing between them they need to find a way to work through them if they want to be together.
This is a great read for the holidays. Sue Moorcroft paints very vivid pictures as well as tells a beautiful story. I found Hannah & Nico to be relatable & genuine. Nico’s daughter & her half sister are adorable. I like that there’s comedy & drama as well as romance. I highly recommend reading this book!
What a heartwarming and festive read! I found this a refreshing alternative to typing Christmas stories and loved the character of Nico as a single father. A single dad with a lot of baggage needing a fresh start and a strong, independent woman whose life has turned upside down. Lots of obstacles and a romantic location make this the perfect read.
Another marvellous read from Sue Moorcroft, introducing me to a different country and a great set of characters!
Hannah has relocated to Sweden where she has her own shop; that's where her brother's childhood friend Nico finds her. They keep bumping into each other but romance can't be on the cards - Hannah has a boyfriend and Nico has two children to care for. Then things change for Hannah. With the loss of her business she moves back home to Middledip only to discover that Nico has relocated too - and to the very same village!
Reading one of this author's novels is like embarking on a trip. There are so many fabulous details and it didn't take me long to get right into the story. The characters are wonderfully created and totally believable; the story is realistic yet magical and there is humour sprinkled throughout. The children just added to the all-over sparkle and everything about this one is delightful. A great read for any time of year but especially enjoyable pre-Christmas. Always a writer worth reading and earning all 4.5 stars.
My thanks to the publisher for my copy via NetGalley; this is - as always - my honest, original and unbiased review.
A seasonal tale with beautiful descriptions of Stockholm.
Teenage friends Hannah and Nico reunite at Hannah's brothers wedding when sparks start to sparkle but due to misunderstandings they are not allowed to ignite. As both Hannah's business and personal life in Stockholm flounder, she is forced to return home to her childhood village where Nico has already started a new chapter of his life.
This family story is full of love and commitment . I even learnt a few words of Swedish!
Middledip is not Stockholm by any means but Hannah finds a future she didn't expect when she goes home to care for her grandmother. She's been living and, she thought, loving in Stockholm where she has a business but surprise (or not to readers of the genre), the man she thought loved her is a rat and she's out of everything- no home, no business, no love. Nico, her brother Rob's friend, was reluctant on his attraction to her but now, now that she's home, the two of them find a happy place. This is classic Moorcroft (for her readers)- a woman who comes home after heartbreak who finds unexpected love (although there has been some gentle back and forth). What makes it different is the Swedish setting for part of the novel. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. A fun read.
Another great, heartwarming cosy book to curl up on the sofa with. This is the second book I’ve read by Sue Moorcroft and it was as equally enjoyable as the last one.
This book had a bit of everything: love, friendship and Christmas magic. Almost makes me want it to be Christmas already.
A great story. Loved it.
A heartwarming Christmas tale set in Sweden and Middledip, a well known village to Sue Moorcroft fans. Hannah and Nico were childhood friends who met again years later whilst she was in Sweden working.
I love Sue's books because alongside real life, rounded characters and a believable, well researched storyline, you always learn about a culture, an awareness of how other's lives are,
Definitely a book to snuggle up with on a rainy day by the fire
I enjoyed this Christmas book it was such a sweet, warm story. I hadn’t heard of this author before so, it pleased me to read such a lovely book. I love Christmas very much although this year could be a difficult time for everybody the world over. So, it was lovely to read this book forgetting all the troubles around us for a few hours. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
I really loved this book, although not for the reasons you would think! This isn't some light and fluffy Christmas book and I feel like it has been a little misdescribed, to be honest.
**possible trigger - eating disorders, substance addiction**
There, that needed to be said. I am not triggered by those things but those who are, need to know.
This is a thoroughly modern love story about a man and a woman who both have some very difficult things to handle in their pasts, things that the author doesn't shy away from describing, kudos to her for that. As much as this book isn't the light read I was sort of hoping for, it was nevertheless an excellent book, if that makes sense.
Hannah is a lovely woman who works hard but isn't fabulous at picking partners. Nico is a calm, steady guy who is a great dad but whose partner picking skills haven't been that amazing in the past either. How these two negotiate with each other over the course of the book is lovely to see. It is REAL and I appreciate that. The romantic bits are very romantic and beautifully written, it has to be said. I also enjoyed the fact that everything wasn't wrapped in a little bow at the end of it, just like real life. I loved Hannah's parents - I think everyone needs to have parents like hers. And I enjoyed the descriptions of Sweden and the traditions and foods. Sweden is a country I have never been to and perhaps will not get to travel to so it was nice to travel in this way :)
5 stars from me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books.
Hannah and Nico have known each other since they were children as Nico is her brothers friend. The meet in Stockholm as Nico was sent by her brother check she is okay. Hannah is gong through a difficult time in her relationship and is trying to get a new shop up and running. Their lives connect and mingle throughout the book. There is of mis communication and conclusion jumping all of the tropes I love in this genre.
I loved the relationship development between Hannah and Nico's daughter, Josie, and the loving supportive family dynamic Hannah has. This is cosy story perfect for the festive season.
There are trigger warnings for eating disorders, addiction and child neglect.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books for my copy for review.
Okay, it seems like an unpopular opinion but I didn't enjoy reading this book.
I really liked Nico, a sensible, a very good person and dad. The story told from his pov is interesting, his moments with Josie and Maria are so sweet, but I didn't felt anything for Hannah. Everything about her seemed forced, even the interaction between Nico and Hannah. You don't see any development in their relationship. And the introductory scene and what Hannah thinks about Nico is so unconvincing.
What a lovely snowy Christmas story. Loved following the story of Hannah and Nico and their path to each other. Made me want to go somewhere in the snow and build snowmen. Lovely Christmas glow and a story of family, friends and love
I love Sue Moorcroft books and this is no exception. Hannah lives in Sweden but then het boyfriend dumps her. Her Nan falls and breaks her arm so Hannah decides to go back to England to help.. She meets her teenage crush Nico who's now divorced and has a daughter Josie.
This is a superior romance set in Sweden and England. There are dysfunctional families, liars, cheats and lovers. The whole thing is written in Sue Moorcroft's descriptive and heart-warming style. Definitely one to cosy up with now the winter is coming.
Thanks to Net Galley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this ebook.
A spellbinding, magical Christmas read. I absolutely loved this book and couldn't put it down. Hannah is such a lovely character, strong but loving. A story of starting over, standing up for yourself, friendship, family and love. I loved her Nan in the story, along with Nico and his little girls. A really heart-warming, magical Christmas read, but with real substance and a strong story.
I loved ABBA when I was a child, and wished to visit Stockholm in Sweden, so I jumped at the chance to read Sue Moorcroft’s new festive read which is set partly in Stockholm and partly in Middledip in the UK. I was swept away on a Swedish adventure and felt that I was trudging through the snow with Hannah and Nico, taking in Sweden along with snatches of Swedish language and culture particularly around the Santa Lucia Celebration.
The story rotates between Hannah and Nico - they are old friends from Middledip who meet again in Stockholm when Nico pops into Hannah's shop. They are obviously attracted but both have baggage - Hannah is in a troubled relationship, while Nico is coping with being a single parent. to his eight year old daughter, Josie, an alcoholic ex wife, her two year old daughter (the delightful Maria) and his own eating disorder. The story is told from both Hannah and Nico’s perspective as they struggle with family traumas, ex partners and misunderstandings. As usual, Sue Moorcroft writes beautifully about relationships (both family and romantic) and her characters are brought to life so well. I really liked Hannah and Nico as well as both of their families. We also get to revisit Middledip and characters that we have met before.
If you’ve read Sue Moorcroft before, you won’t be disappointed. I loved it! Perfect, cosy, romantic reading for Christmas.
The perfect Christmas story.
Lots of family, warmth, yummy food, angst, mayhem and meddling and love.
Hannah is a women trying to make her way in the world in Sweden. Living with her boyfriend who we instantly know is a wrong un!
She meets Nico by chance ... or so she thinks. Nico is her teenage crush, brothers best friend and tortured slightly but a hottie.
He’s a single dad with a power job a gorgeous daughter and a slightly meddling Swedish family.
This book weaves beautifully between snowy Sweden and gorgeous Middlip a picture postcard country village.
This book almost smells of mulled wine it’s so festive and glittery.
A perfect Christmas read.

It’s a great read and part of series but also a stand a lone.
It’s a gem!
Thank you to NetGalley and AVON/HarperCollins Publishers Ltd. for a copy of "Christmas Wishes" in exchange for my honest review.
Ms. Moorcroft has written a heartwarming Christmas story about the most important aspect of the holidays - family and friends gathering to enjoy good food and conversation.
Hannah Anna Goodbody has a high end boutique in Stockholm selling belts, bags, scarves, etc. Her shop - Hannah Anna Butik - is owned by her boyfriend Albin. One day a friend from the past Nico Petterson walks into her shop. At first she mistakes him for a homeless person, sleeping rough and insists on taking him to a burger place to feed him. Nico is thin because he suffers from the eating disorder Bulimia which is stress induced with him. Nico is the best friend of Hannah's brother Rob and they'd been friends since the time Nico lived in Cambridge.
Nico has been a single dad to Josie (8) since his divorce from Loren. He often takes care of her 2 year old sister Maria as well. Loren is "ill" and can't cope with being a parent. At times she can't cope with just being herself.
Hannah heads back to England for Rob's wedding to Leesa and realizes that she might have feelings for Nico. Upon her return to Stockholm Albin has locked her out of the shop and insists that she move out of his family owned flat. This starts off a struggle for Hannah to get what money is owed her by Albin for the stock that she has purchased for the shop. Out of something bad (her beloved Nan Heather breaking her wrist and needing help) comes something good - Hannah returns home to her family in time for Christmas.
Nico decides that he needs to reprioritize his life and moves to Hannah's Village. Planning to travel home to Sweden for St. Lucia Day, he ends up with an extra child when Loren is unable to care for Maria. Then when his father has a heart attack he realizes that he will need help. That's when Hannah decides to go along with them. While there they get Albin to see the error of his ways. Over the days leading up to Christmas Hannah realizes that she is becoming more and more attached to the girls.
Of course, there are the usual misunderstandings that come close to breaking the couple up. There are revelations for both families to deal with. The story comes to an end with a wonderful family Christmas.
A wonderful book to read for the start of the holiday season!!
I must confess that Sue Moorcroft and, in particular, her Middledip stories are some of my favourites. This doesn’t make me create a biased fan-girl review, quite the opposite, I am more inclined to be disappointed.
You can relax now as this is another smasher!
When Sue first hinted that her next Winter book would revolve around Ice-Hockey, I was thrilled. As my teenage years were spent as a ‘rink-rat’ I was intrigued as to how this would pan out. In short, it panned out perfectly.
I loved that the romance was hinted at, right from the opening pages and I then spent the rest of the book willing Hannah and Nico to find their happy ending.
It was good to revisit some of Middledip’s well loved characters but equally lovely to meet Nico’s family in Sweden. I loved seeing the change in fortunes for Nico’s parents, I really am an old romantic!
The beauty of this story, as with the others from Middledip, is that you can pick up anywhere and not need to have read any of her previous books.
I do hope that you enjoy Christmas Wishes, it has something for everyone.
