This was a great book. It's cozy and heartwarming and really fun. I really liked all the characters, and I was excited to learn that it's the first in a series. I look forward to reading the rest of the series!

Amos is heartbroken as his fiance Sarah has recently died. Naomi and Amos find out that they both love to paint, and they become friends. Will they become more than friends? Will either one be willing to become more than friends ? Or will the loos past prevent them from becoming a couple ? Will the see Esther and Lizzies matchmaking skills have a happily ever after? Thank you Zonderian Fiction and Net Galley for allowing me to read and review this book.
Such a fun read! I thoroughly enjoyed this newest book by Beth Wiseman. It is filled with memorable characters, lots of humor, and some romance. I finished it feeling good and smiling!
A Picture of Love tells the story of two elderly widow sisters who own and run a bed and breakfast. Their employee and "adopted" granddaughter was recently jilted by her fiance. When a single young man visits the inn with his mother, the sisters put their "matchmaker hats on" and do everything possible to throw the two young people together. This a delightful story, filled with laughter, love, tears, and real-life. Author Beth Wiseman has written a delightful novel that is difficult to put down, unique and not just another "Amish romance". Well written!
Esther & Lizzie Zook are two elderly sisters who live together in their Bed & Breakfast. They have both been recently widowed. Naomi Byler is a young Amish girl who moves in with them after a recent breakup with her fiance, Thomas. Amos Lantz & his mom come to stay at the B & B to attend a wedding. Amos has also recently gone through a major heartbreak as his fiance, Sarah, recently passed away. Amos & Naomi strike up a friendship & grow increasingly closer through their shared love of painting. They have a night where they paint landscape canvases together & through this, they become more than friends. One evening as they are getting ready to kiss, Thomas, Naomi's former fiance, shows up & tells her he really does love her & will never leave her again (even though he has taken up with another woman after he left Naomi). Naomi has to do a lot of soul-searching and figure out what she wants and who she wants.
As all of this is going on, Lizzie is also dealing with some major health issues & she works to mend the fence between she & her sister & their neighbor, Gus, who has always been a thorn in their side.
I loved this book & it held my attention to the very end! I am a big fan of Beth Wiseman as an author also.
Thank you to the publisher, Zondervan, and Net Galley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book. This is my total and unbiased opinion.
Naomi has been all but left at the altar when her fiance left her before their wedding. Amos lost his fiancee to cancer. Neither feel they are in a position to open their hearts to love.
Naomi is the cook and housekeeper for Peony Inn, run by sisters Esther and Lizzie. Lizzie is what in some parlances would be called a "loose cannon." She says what she feels without a filter between thought and spoken words. Both Esther and Lizzie are match-making meddlers. There are a host of other characters that populate this book by Beth Wiseman and make it the entertaining read that it is.
One thing that Amos and Naomi have in common is that they both love to paint landscapes. Esther and Lizzie believe they will make the perfect couple and invent reasons for Amos to stay behind and do some work for them so that Amos and Naomi can get to know each other better, and even fall in love.
The road to love is never without its bumps and potholes, and Beth has worked that into the book with the reappearance of Naomi's ex-fiance.
This is quite an enjoyable book that engages the reader from the very first page all the way through to the very end. Five stars, two thumbs up, and a perfect landscape painting for your wall.
Zondervan Fiction and NetGalley.com provided the copy I read for this review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Beth Wiseman is one of my long time favorite authors in the Amish genre- so a new series by her will always excite me! In A Picture of Love, the characters of Naomi and Amos, Esther and Lizzie all come across as extremely relatable and real. Esther and Lizzie, the two Amish widows running a B and B in which their great niece comes to live, take her in and treat her as a beloved granddaughter. Naomi easily bonds with them and takes to helping them run the B and B and welcome their guests although at first she was reluctant to stay. With Esther and Lizzie's reputation as matchmakers they are determined to find her a "happily ever after", especially when Naomi meets Amos upon his arrival with his mother.
As always, Beth Wiseman skillfully weaves this tale to bring the reader right into the midst of the story. I truly felt i was at the B and B involved in the character's conversations and activities. This is a novel I highly recommend to Wiseman's fans and to all fans of Amish genre novels. I was touched by Esther and Lizzie's close bond as sisters in their older years, and by Esther's efforts to be kind to their gruff long-time renter Gus despite his behavior. I felt like Esther and Lizzie were beloved family members whom I would love to spend time with. This book was also a relaxing way to "escape" during this crazy time we are all living through right now during the pandemic.
A Picture of Love is a beautifully written Amish romance. Well crafted plot and characters. I high recommend this book. I received an advance ebook from the publisher and this is my unbiased review.
With multiple personalities and damaged folks, this book is a tearjerker, but one that leaves you smiling by the end. Lizzie and Esther are aged sisters living together with their niece Naomi, who has been jilted by a previous love. They run a B&B and try to do a little matchmaking on the side. One day, Amos and his mother ride into town. Amos has been broken by love, too. Meanwhile Esther is battling her own fears and demons. Throw in a grumpy Englisch neighbor, some extra B&B guests, and a couple of twists and turns from the ex...and you've got a drama! There are surprises throughout. It'll be interesting to see if there's a follow up, since it looks like love might be brewing for another couple by the end....
Naomi works in the inn that is owned by Ester and Lizzie, who are sisters. Naomi is trying to get over a broken heart. Amos and his mom come to stay at the inn due to wedding. Amos has a grieving heart due to his fiancé dying of cancer. Amos and Naomi start to feel something for each other, except Naomi still not sure about Thomas - the one who broke her heart. I enjoyed this reading this book and the personalities of the characters in the book. I can’t wait to read more in this series. Thank you to NetGalley and Zondervan for the E-ARC. This is my own opinion.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Zondervan through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This story was so touching on so many different levels. People underestimate the power of a commonality and in this case for Esther and Lizzie, it was painting. Both are widows that own and operate a B&B in Southern Indiana, love to play matchmaker with their friends and loved ones. It wasn't until Naomi moves into the B&B after breaking up with her fiance that their matchmaking power truly made a difference. Then here comes Amos who is just mending a broken heart as well. Then even when love seems unreal, it always comes back like a boomerang. This book is perfect to read if you are in the mood for a book version of a chick flick.
