I received a digital arc from the Publisher via Netgalley though all thoughts are my own.

I was so excited when I initially heard about this book as I thought it was something that Anthony had left behind and that his assistant had taken over fine tuning things after his death. While this isn't that kind of book and I was disappointed in that sense, it's still very much a book about Anthony that mentions many of the travels he made throughout his life and has so many tongue in cheek comments that it's very obvious just how much the people in his life knew him and how they were doing their best to honor his life.

I very much enjoyed this book because I have been a fan of Anthony's for well over fifteen years and while this wasn't word for word something that he had written, much of this did mention some of the things he said while traveling with a crew of camera people and I love that some of his closest friends and family made appearances.

I feel that this is a wonderful tribute to a guy who threw himself fully into getting to know the cultures and people that he came across in his many travels and that he made a difference in so many people's lives, particularly restaurants after people learned that Anthony had visited them.

I love that it's mentioned throughout the book to consult travel guides and not rely on the information in this book to get around certain countries because this really isn't a travel guide but rather a travel experience and a very fitting tribute to a guy who was full of adventure.

Trigger warnings: mention of war, death, violence

Dammit, Tony, why did you have to take away your witty, curious, empathetic, irreverent, respectful soul? We've lost the best travel writer of the 20th/21st century.

As advertised - full of deep consideration and detail, but achingly sad to read as there won't be more from his oeuvre.

I love the idea of a book that gives more insight into Anthony Bourdain, especially what are promised to be insider glimpses. Yes, this book does this, but they are not really revealing and there really is no substitute for the way that Bourdain could tell stories of his own. He brought an energy to his storytelling that is missing here. More reasons to be sad that he's gone.

Finally got around to this one and it did not disappoint. This fed my wanderlust and made me want to try new things. Bourdain was such a unique person who was unapologetically himself. May his memory be a blessing to us all.

This is a nice coffee table book to have, but it isn’t a book you should read in one sitting. It’s a perfect book to pick up every once in a while to read a chapter here and there. Or to help you plan your next trip.

I loved this book. I have read all of Anthony boudain’s other books, and this one is similarly well written and compelling and interesting. Couldn’t put it down once I started reading. Mr Bourdain was taken from us too early, and this book felt like he was still with us for a bit longer. Bittersweet. Highly recommend for anyone who loved his books and his tv show.

I've been a Bourdain fan for years and I was excited to check this book out. This book is a huge reference for the man who liked to travel and exploring. It details a lot of his favorite place to eat, stay and see in numerous countries and cities. A true guide by the most traveled tourist. Worth a read

This book made me miss Anthony Bourdain even more than I already do. He was a character. Someone I know was super important to the food industry. I recommend this book to all any chance I get. I was in the bookstore the other day and I helped push someone over the edge on buying this book.

This book made me on so many levels because I've been such a fan-girl of Anthony Bourdain since 2004. This book is somber, delightful, and at time's bittersweet. Being home for he past year and juggling so much on my plate in general, it was joyful to travel within its pages. The cover, he story, and various elements crafted for this book is absolutely timeless. I cannot recommend this book enough on top of the Laurie's heart and craft put into it. Thank you so much for the early peak of the book, the gorgeous physical advance copy and in depth convo's at book events for this book. Cannot wait for the oral biography in November.

World Travel

Pub Date 20 Apr 2021

I am reviewing a copy of World Travel An Irreverent Guide through HarperCollins Publishers:

In World Travel we travel with Anthony Bourdain as he traveled the world from the hidden pockets of his hometown of New York to a tribal longhouse in Borneo, from cosmopolitan Buenos Aires, Paris, and Shanghai to Tanzania’s utter beauty and the stunning desert solitude of Oman’s Empty Quarter, and so many more places. He probably saw more of the world than just about anyone.

World Travel is the late Anthony Bourdain’s collection of entertaining, practical fun and frank travel guide that gives readers an introduction to some of his favorite places in his own words he tells of these journeys. The book features essential advice on how to get there, what to eat, where to stay and, in some cases, what to avoid,World Travel provides essential context that will help readers further appreciate the reasons why Bourdain found a place enchanting and memorable.

A handful of essays by friends, colleagues, and family supplements Anthony Bourdain’s work. The essays tell even deeper stories about a place, including sardonic accounts of traveling with Bourdain by his brother, Chris; a guide to Chicago’s best cheap eats by legendary music producer Steve Albini, and more. Additionally, each chapter includes illustrations by Wesley Allsbrook.

This book allows veteran travelers, armchair enthusiasts, and those in between to experience the world like Anthony Bourdain.

I give World Travel five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

This posthumous release from the brilliant Anthony Bourdain continues his legacy as an open-hearted, adventurous, and curious world traveler. This book is just what we need to get excited about seeing the world after a long year of staying put.

If you were ever privy to a Bourdain experience,in passing or earnest you knew it was different. Mr.Bourdain entertained with words and wisdom and a reverence for those places and people he met. We by osmosis felt a part of that experience. We are the better for it and the sadder that these moments of revelation are at an end. I applaud Ms Woolever for taking on the task of walking in some very big shoes. Here is a finished product worthy of the man , the myth, the elusive creature. The book holds true to his mission. To reveal the world ,unique, and worth the travel time. A solemn tribute to the life of a world class wanderer.

Let’s begin with a very important caveat: Published posthumously, this book is not actually authored by Anthony Bourdain. Rather, it’s a pretty standard travel guide peppered with Bourdain quotes.

If you’re just looking for quickie recommendations for a trip that are endorsed by Bourdain‘s opinions, this will serve your purpose just fine. But if, like me, you were hoping for the last written words by a personal hero, you won’t find it here.

This felt a bit cobbled together and disjointed, and doesn’t properly serve Bourdain’s memory. While I’ll certainly keep it on hand as a useful reference guide for when travel is a possibility again, it didn’t feel like the best way to honor a man so many of us miss so desperately after his untimely death.

I understand the pressure to “get something out there quickly” after an icon passes, and I sincerely hope his loved ones both find some comfort in having one final homage to Bourdain and also make a fortune from its publication. That said, many of Bourdain’s earlier books provide a much greater sense of the wonderful man and cultural icon that he was.

**Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book**

Well, here we are, living in a world without Anthony Bourdain. I'm still not over it, because I've admired his work for over a decade now—the way he looked at the world was unique, kind, and I think the world has never needed him more than it does now. But here we are, left with what we have: snippets of a book he was working on when he died.

This book is a treasure, the last travel book we can savor and take advice from in Bourdain's own words—places around the world to visit (and avoid), and the book is also full of essays and quips from those who knew him best and traveled with him. The book is very entertaining and full of insight (with illustrations!), and a must-read for any fan of Bourdain's.

Highly recommend.

Anthony Bourdain is always a treat and we miss his biting wit. World Travel has all that, but it is bittersweet as it is more rehash than a fresh take. Loved the artwork.

I was sent this book twice and would love to read and review it, but I don't know how to access this type of file, sorry! Everything else I have downloaded as been sent directly to my Kindle. Sorry to be so low tech. I've heard wonderful things about this book and it sounds terrific.

I loved watching Anthony Bourdain when he was alive, and reading this brought back his love for travel and other countries. I had forgotten how funny and curious he was.
Many of the stories were told by friends and associates, unfortunately, he didn't get a chance to finish this book before his death, It's our loss, I would have loved to read them in his own words. I highly recommend this book to any of his fans, or anyone who loves to travel. 4 stars.

Thanks to HarperCollins Publishers and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I am a HUGE fan of Tony.
The day that I heard of his passing was a very very tough day for me.
I have read all of his books and seen all of his shows, so when I was sent this title I literally cried.
Going into this i was SOOO excited.
Unfortunately, I did not feel as connected to it as I'd hoped to.
I appreciate the ARC!

Like many, I was left brokenhearted by Anthony Bourdain's death. Whenever I planned a trip to a new place, I always made sure to read up on what he had to say about a city. This book was not the undiscovered gems of AB I was hoping it would be--it's much closer to a travel guide--but to those who are Bourdain fans, it is a nostalgic trip around the world with him and those who knew him and traveled with him. The illustrations were nice, I just wish Bourdain's voice felt stronger in the book.

Many thanks to HarperCollins & Netgalley for the ARC.
