Not what I was expecting. Truly more a guidebook and lighter on the stories and essays which is what I was looking forward to. If you enjoy reading guide books, this might be for you.
Antony Bourdain’s voice is spoken once more through this unique travel guide. Quotes from Tony’s travels intermix with restaurants and memorable places that he enjoyed. For fans of Bourdain, it’s one last token to say goodbye.
I so wanted this to be some final words from Anthony Bourdain but unfortunately, it’s a book he talked about writing with his assistant but that’s as far as they were able to get. I can hear Anthony’s voice in the beginning snippets of each chapter but the rest reads more like a travel guide of restaurants he would recommend. It’s not a bad thing, just not what I wanted.
As a big fan of the late and great Anthony Bourdain, this book was a great way to reminisce about his favorite locations and plan new travels. Sadly, it was not the book it was initially intended to be due to his death. Most of his words are from other sources. But it's great to see them compiled and his recommendations all in one spot. The added bonus of essays by people who knew him well is a great tribute to him and shares stories of his travels behind-the-scenes. I recommend this book to anyone who loved Anthony Bourdain or enjoys travel writing.
