Louise, Emily, Jess and Carla are all at different stages of their life. One's engaged with a few secrets...one's expecting a little sooner than she anticipated...one's looking for the love of her life...and the other is dealing with a potentially cheating spouse. British humor, chick lit and a bit of romance make this a cute, quick, read!
I kinda like it a lot!
Jess, Carla, Louisa and Emily are four sisters who are navigating adulthood; Jess is the mother to two girls and is trying to be a perfect working mum, yet suspects her husband is cheating. Carla is a high-ranking marketing executive who broke up with her long-term/on-and-off-again boyfriend to hook up with her assistant only to find herself in love with him and pregnant (and questioning who the father might be). Louisa is reinventing her materialistic self in order to get her wealthy but charity loving boyfriend to pop the question, and Emily is trying to find a boyfriend that is not psychotic.
The story opens to a wedding that has gone somehow wrong and the reader does not know which sister is the bride. The story proceeds in segments told from perspectives and storylines of each of the sisters with cocktail recipes mixed in. This was a very funny story; I giggled out loud a couple of times. Visualizing the hen-party was particularly hilarious. This book is the second in a series, but was very readable as a stand alone. I will be reading book #1 and the others in this series as they are published. Great recommendation for those who enjoy Sophie Kinsella, Meg Cabot, and Jennifer Crusie.
This book was full of ridiculous sister shenanigans. Haven’t read the first book and have no intention of reading the other book(s). This just wasn’t for me. Some bits were fun.ny and epiphanical in terms of the characters. But otherwise I was super annoyed. Read a multiple books between finishing this one. And at the end it was just to close the book and be done with it. This book might be for you it just wasn’t for me. I dunno if I wasn’t in the right headspace for this but just couldn’t bring myself to care more for it. Super apologetic.
Would like to thank the publishers and Netgalley for the review copy.
If you really like YA but are looking for something with a little bit of an adult fee/themes then this is the book for you. 4.5 stars!
I really loved this book. It was a nice slow burn and even though I didn't pick it up every single day I still felt myself being drawn to the characters and thought about the story lines often. It's rare (imo) for a book to create a character that is so terrible, on purpose, and boy did I really dislike Louisa. The introduction to her with the dog poop situation was perfect and created this instant hatred towards her. I will say that the situation that happens to her near the end was a little much for me personally but that type of thing does happen and it was a nice change to have it not become everything her character is which many authors I feel like do. I also really liked the growth of Jess's character and showing her and her husband work through their martial problems. It was, once again, refreshing to see a real life situation play out in a positive way for all parties involved. In most stories that I've read the ending would have been the complete opposite and I'm so glad it was written this way.
The other two sisters I feel as if did not get as much of my attention (maybe I just wasn't invested as much in them or maybe their stories were just weaker in comparison to my two favorites. I couldn't tell ya). The only thing that I can think of that did cause me some annoyance was that we'd be in a Carla section, I'd think we were moving onto the next sister, and then we'd just be in a new Carla section. That is probably just a personal annoyance but it was enough for me to take off a half star.
All in all, I would highly recommend this book to anyone that wants more of a realistic book with a few things that are exaggerated. I will definitely be telling all of my friends about this book since I feel as if we can all relate to the characters a bit more since they're closer to our age.
While I did know this was Book2 in a series, I was hoping to be better able to follow the characters and the story with enough lead-ins and information. Felt lacking to me in that regard and I ended up not being able to follow through and unfortunately could not get into this book to enjoy it
This sequel did not disappoint at all. There were several laugh out loud moments that had me cracking up. I loved how flawed and imperfect the characters were. Will recommend this to others.
When I logged this book into Goodreads I saw it was book 2 in a series. So, of course, I had to read book 1.
#SkinAndBlisters is a book about 4 sisters and their sister from another mister and their adventures in life and live. Hilariously written and extremely entertaining. I see another book will be coming - cannot wait!!!!
I was sent this book after r raw ding and reviewing the authors previous book, Toots.
I really enjoyed Toots and was looking forward to starting #skinandblisters
As other reviewers have mentioned, there were quite a lot of typos in the text. I normally skim these in other arcs and understand that receiving an advanced, uncorrected copy of a book for free (!) often means reading around typos and reviewing the content of the story...not the grammar. However, some of the typos contained in this book actually made it difficult to determine what the particular sentence meant.
I enjoyed this book and am a fan of the authors writing style. Some of the characters seemed a little harsher than previously. I like main female characters that are supportive, girls’ girls...not a fan of bitchy characters.
Overall, a good read and recommended to others.
Thank you NetGalley and the Publisher for my advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review 📚
#SkinAndBlisters-by Linh Le James
Nice easy summer read just a shame I wasn’t away on my holiday, dam you Covid 19 ha ha, as this book would have been a perfect way to relax on the beach. It had really likeable characters and nice story it reminded me of my friends and things we have got up to after cocktails, it made me chuckle a few times.
Yes there are typos but assume before the book goes to print these will be rectified. Many thanks to both netgalley and the author for allowing me to read this book.
Before I give a review of the book I’d like to say that there were a large amount of typos in this book, so much so that it was a bit distracting.
The book is a story about sisters and the flaws insecurities that each of them have culminating in one sisters wedding. She thought she was marrying an incredibly rich husband but he donated “all” of his money to charity in advance of the wedding. Even though she is materialistic she comes clean at the wedding ceremony and ends up saying that even though he had no money she can’t imagine life with anyone else! It was a cute family take.
A great read! Really loved the characters ! Enjoyed reading the book! I couldn't put the book down. I am definitely going to try out the cocktails recipes mentioned in this book .
#SkiAndBlisters was a fun, entertaining beach read, coming along just in time as the temperatures rise & readers start prepping for vacation... Or should I say stay staycation?
It's easy to follow even if someone hasn't read the first book (didn't realise until I read some of the reviews here!) as the author reintroduces each sister separately and devotes equal parts for their part of their story to unwind.
I particularly enjoyed the revelation scenes during Jess' joint couple therapy session and Louise's honesty outbreak at her wedding ceremony. Having said that, the characters felt a bit flat, mainly due to the fact that the sisters' voices/streams of thought felt particularly similar to each other; their preoccupation with their physical appearance somewhat upsetting especially given the current context of contemporary literary heroines.
Also, judging from the Cockney reference in the title, I'd expect the book to be scattered with more elements of Englishness than the girls' devotion to the occasional cuppa (or bottomless cocktail glass) as the ailment to all life's troubles. The English are infamous for their affection towards booze but the excessive drinking felt unnecessary in some occasions (see Emily's date with Josh for instance).
I really struggled reading this book. From the very first page there were typos.
page 4- The start of the line 'Preposterous! ‘Don’t Panic’ is people are told when they’re…'
*is what?
‘Start a discussing about’ iIm guessing it's supposed to be 'start a discussion about' or 'start discussing something' about'.
I found the characters to be annoying and super bitchy. What is it with the nickname Shneck? - theyre supposed to be 'friends'.. I got to 100 pages in and stopped as I found the female characters to all be bitchy- which is not a stereotype that needs to be added to.
Skin and Blisters - I must admit, coming from NZ and being a bit rusty on my Cockney Rhyming Slang - it did take me a few chapters to click!
This book was a wild ride (in the best way). Funny, clever and entertaining. I feel like I know the characters , they were each very relatable and that I could have been friends with every one of them. I also am a big fan of starting chapters with recipes - so the cocktail recipes were a real treat. There were some real laugh out moments.
I will say, I haven't read anything by Linh Le James before, I believe there is a prequel to this book , but I found it easy to slip into the story line and certainly did not need to have read the first book before digging into this one.
I did find that one of the story lines started out a lot like "Bridget Jones' Baby" and I was expecting the book to play out predictably. I'm very pleased to say my assumptions were incorrect.
Overall, a great book . Rushing out to buy #Toots to give that a whirl!

Such a great book! You will laugh out loud at some of the situations in this novel. A definite must read!!
