A delightful final entry in this gossipy, drama-filled trilogy; TROUBLES IN PARADISE nicely wraps up all the outstanding story lines from the rest of the trilogy. The Steele family discovers happiness on St. John in surprising ways, as Irene, and her sons Baker and Cash, each find love on the island.
Elin Hilderbrand is truly a master of beautiful storytelling. This book is no exception! I have loved every minute of my reading experiences with the Paradise Trilogy. This story takes back to familiar territory with a host of characters we have grown to know and love. I have been very curious how Hilderbrand would wrap up such a dynamic story in the Paradise experience and I am happy to say she has done so nicely. The drama, overlapping and entangled situations are a delight and I found myself becoming increasingly sad as I neared the end of the book. Thank you for such a wonderful journey! This book is sure not to disappoint! Highly recommend the entire trilogy!
Hilderbrand has done it again!
I have LOVED the Paradise series and couldn't wait to see how it all wrapped up.
All our favourites are back for the third instalment and as always, there are obstacles every which way.
Troubles in Paradise focuses on the storylines of multiple characters and sometimes felt a bit stretched, but I think that's because I love Ayers so much and would have loved seeing more of her.
I won't give anything away, but expect lots of growth from characters in this novel and less "easy, laid-back Island living". Perfect wrap up to a fun trilogy!
I loved Troubles in Paradise! This final book in Hilderbrand's Winter in Paradise series continues the story of Irene Steele and her unconventional extended family on the beautiful island of St. John. Hilderbrand has a talent for making characters relatable and lovable despite of their flaws. Irene Steele is so real life that reading this book made me feel like I was catching up with an old friend. I cannot wait until traveling is a thing again so I can see the paradie of St. John in person. Who knows, maybe I'll even charter a fishing boat:)
With “Trouble in Paradise,” Elin Hilderbrand’s last book in the Paradise trilogy, all we want to know is, Who and Why. Elin ties up all the loose ends with this final book in her usual grand fashion. In my review, I will reveal NO Spoilers; EVER.
As we know from the first book, “Winter in Paradise,” Irene Steele’s husband, Russel, died in a helicopter crash in the Virgin Islands, on Christmas Day, two years ago. He was not alone, but accompanied by an Island-native, woman, Rosie Small, later discovered as his girlfriend, or mistress. By the completion of book two, “What Happens in Paradise,” Irene meets Russell’s twelve-year-old daughter, Maia, he had with Rosie, and her grandfather, Huck, Rosie’s Dad. Irene and her adult sons, Cash and Baker, all spend valuable time getting to know one another better.
By this third book, both families are suspect of the cause of the helicopter crash as a lightening hit. Numerous FBI investigations and finally the seizure of Russ’s condo, the family home in Iowa, and all other assets and available info, points to nefarious activity by Russ’ employer. Since Russ was paid large amounts of money, plus the fact Irene nor Rosie could not describe what his job entailed, led to the belief of, “money hide and seek,” or as the Feds call it, money laundering.
While the investigations were going on, relationships were having their ups and downs. Huck needed to decide if they can work and live together, or just work together. Ayers could not decide if she should forgive her cheating boyfriend and stay with him or move on to a relationship with Baker. She had lots of pros and cons to consider. Cash had taken an interest in Ayer’s coworker, Tilda. (I know!) The question is, are they just having fun, or will it develop into anything real. (And do we care?!) And there is adorable, important, Maia! Will she live with Huck or Ayers? Baker has brought his son, Floyd, to live with him on the island. By the end of the book you will know all the answers.
Fortunately, Ayers found all of Rosie’s diaries before anyone else could get hold of them. The last and most recent one has information that could be incriminating evidence that could help the FBI, but Ayers is not sure if it could help or hurt Russ and Rosie. Why won’t the FBI tell them more about the investigation?!
Finally, there needs to be proof one way or the other about the helicopter crash. Was it an accident or a setup? Remember Todd Croft, Russ’ boss, where is he in all this? And Marilyn Monroe, his secretary, who called Irene to tell her of Russ’ death, where has she gone? Is that her real name?!
“Trouble in Paradise” is the “crème de la crème” of the Paradise trilogy. We have crime, possible murder, several romances, and even a medium size hurricane in the end. You must find out who survives with who, and do they get to keep the money?
It was a great, three book vacation in the Virgin Islands. I cannot wait to see where Elin takes us next. Wherever she goes, I will be ready to join her!
Thank you Netgalley, Little Brown, and Co. and Elin Hilderbrand
This is my third Elin Hilderbrand book and I don't think her writing style is suit for my liking but I still feel that the story was really compelling. Elin Hilderbrand's Paradise trio comes to a close with this heartfelt, slightly thrilling, unique story. Set on Saint John, the Steele family makes the permanent move to the USVI following a tragic accident and family secret being revealed, What I didn't like was how the end of the story felt thrown together, rushed almost. I felt like it added more new questions almost, needing to know what happens after the new event at the end of the book.
It is bittersweet that this series has come to an end! I loved reading about the family drama and entanglement. I typically read murder mysteries, so Trouble in Paradise was able to have both my love for suspense and romance in one book! While reading, characters from her other books occasionally would pop in, which would get me excited. I was happy that this last book answered many unanswered questions; however, I was suspecting a big shock at the end! As always, I love Elin Hilderbrand and her books will never disappoint!
I’m so sad to see this series end. I have to admit, it ended a little differently than I expected. But I enjoyed it. I could really envision life on St. John. I’ll miss these characters. Hope they show up in future books!
This series was so much fun and such a perfect escape with interesting characters and surprises along the way. I didn’t want to put any of them down! This one wasn’t my favorite in the series and the last 20% felt disconnected from the rest of the story, but still an essential read to wrap up a great series.
I am so sad that this is the last book of this trilogy written by the fantastic Elin Hilderbrand. Her books always make me feel like home and this one was no exception! I was so happy that all my questions from the last book were answered in Troubles in Paradise. It was comforting and awesome to be back with old friends Huck, Irene, Cash, Baker, Ayres, and Maia. I feel like I really needed this security more than ever right now in these times. I don't want to go into super detailed summaries or descriptions here because I feel like anything could easily be spoiled. While I absolutely hate to see the series end, I also really like how Elin ended things and I felt satisfied.
This book was an excellent ending to the three book series. It had all the love, legal, and mystery themes all tied in one book! I really enjoyed this book. It was like a brain candy escape! I highly recommend the entire three book series to anyone who wants a thrilling, mystery, family drama and love story. Thank y Elin Hilderbrand, Netgalley and Little, Brown and Company for this advanced readers copy. I have this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
To start, I'm a huge fan of Elin Hilderbrand's books that are set on Nantucket. I was hesitant to read one that wasn't set there, but I really enjoyed the change of scenery with this trilogy. I liked this book the best of the three in the series. I liked that the chapters were written from the point of view of different characters. I also loved how to wove in characters from the Winter series.
I will say that I had a hard time keeping the brothers straight in the books because of their unusual names, Cash and Baker. They were too similar and strange so I kept mixing them up. I also found it hard to believe that a woman from Iowa would have chosen such unusual names for her kids. As with most books I read I wanted more in the ending. I felt that it wrapped up very quickly and there were some story lines that I would have liked to have seen wrapped up with more detail. Maybe she is leaving those open for a new series?...
Overall, this was a good trilogy to read and I enjoyed the characters and the scenery!
I am a big fan of Elin Hilderbrand and her books never disappoint. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to review Troubles in Paradise, the third and final book in her Winter in Paradise series.
In Troubles in Paradise we find the Steele family carving out a new life in St. John in the Virgin Islands after semi-recovering from the news that Russ Steele, husband and father of the family, had created a second home, family and life in St. John that he had kept a secret for over 10 years. But when the FBI swoop in to take the villa and all their possessions, Irene and her sons must begin again and truly find out who is on their side.
I loved this series and Elin did a fabulous job of tying up all the loose ends and answering all the questions from the previous books. I can't wait to find out what series she will start next.
I thoroughly enjoyed this final book in the Paradise Trilogy by Elin Hilderbrand. I liked how everything tied together, and I also liked how she included a hurricane hitting USVI similar to Hurricane Irma which caused great devastation. People who don't live in coastal cities don't every really get the experience hurricanes, but they can be massive and have lasting effects. I will miss Baker, Cash, Irene, and Huck!! This book had just the right amount of drama, romance, and mystery with a good mix of characters to love to hate and characters you hate to love.
I got this book awhile ago... kept it on my shelf because I was ready to say goodbye to this series. I was honestly going to wait to read in October but couldn’t help myself. I am so glad I read it it was truly the best ending to a series ever!

This is the third book in the trilogy. Please read books 1 and 2 first it will be worth your time. I enjoyed this book and it is a great conclusion to the series. Thanks to Little, Brown and Company and Netgalley for the ARC.
5 star
I kept putting off reading this book because I didn´t want this trilogy to be over! Fortunately, it lived up to the past books in the series. It was a delight to revisit with these characters I have grown to love. The last book ended with the villa being taken over by the US government and this book starts off there. Definitely read the first two books before picking this one up. This series is so worth your time!
I love all of Elin's books, but I grew extra attached to this series. The third book was the perfect conclusion — drama, growth and, of course, closure on the storyline running throughout the trilogy. As with the previous two books, the setting is so beautifully described that it made me want to run off to a desert island immediately.
Elin Hilderbrand's Paradise trio comes to a close with this heartfelt, slightly thrilling, unique story. Set on Saint John, the Steele family makes the permanent move to the USVI following a tragic accident and family secret being revealed (read books one and two to find out more).
But this book doesn't start out with the happy ending we all want for Irene, Baker, and Cash, they have to work hard for it. Troubles in Paradise is full of exactly that, troubles in paradise, for the Steele family.
Overall, however, it was the perfect closing to my favorite series by Elin. It had me wanting to visit St. John ASAP, explore the island, and eat some tasty seafood.
This book was an awesome way to end the series. It's hard to say goodbye to the Steeles, Huck, and Maia though. My creative mind has lots of thoughts of what happens next with these blended families. I will definitely be recommending this book to my reader friends. Elin Hilderbrand is one of my go-to authors, and she certainly did not disappoint me this time! I love, love her books!
