I really enjoyed this book!! The perfect culmination of the Winter In Paradise series. And per usual, I want to pack my bags and move to St. John.
The characters all found their own way and I loved the conclusion!
I really enjoyed this book! Admittedly, I did not read the two prequels as directed by Elin Hilderbrand, but felt like this book stood pretty well on its own. The characters were messy and flawed and the ending came together a little too tidy, but it was satisfying. Definitely, a light beach read that is perfect for an escape. I can’t wait to book a trip to St. John! Thank you to Elin Hilderbrand, Little, Brown & Company, and Net Galley for the advance digital copy! #NetGalley
Such a cast of characters all gathered in the Virgin Islands over lust, greed, deceit and family. Fast paced, island life and family dynamics in the midst of determining what could real love look like and is this for me. Several generations within this story grappling with meaning and chaos.
What a great way ending to this series. The book continues with the Steele family now living on St. John Island. It wraps up the investigation of Ted Croft. You follow each character with their ups and downs. This tropical paradise has romance, drama and a hurricane. You can read as a stand alone as the author gives a synopsis of what has been going on but I recommend going back and start from the beginning. I will miss these characters. Thank you to NetGalley and Little Brown and Company for the E-ARC. This is my own opinion.
This was a really satisfying conclusion to the Paradise trilogy, and might be the best of the three books. We root for all of the Steeles as they find their footing on St. John. I loved the addition of St. John's perspective in a couple of chapters and the cameo from a favorite Winter Street character. As always, Hilderbrand gives an incredible sense of place that gives the book a lot of vibrancy.
I'm a fan of the USVI and have loved the Paradise series by Elin Hilderbrand. When I saw Troubles in Paradise was available on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, I jumped on the chance to request an advanced copy. Troubles in Paradise doesn't disappoint. We get to see what happens with the entire gang in St. John, in fact the island becomes a sort of character in and of itself. We'll find out what really happened with Russ and Rosie. I didn't want he story to end, but felt it was done in an excellent way.
I’ve enjoyed looking forward to each installment of this trilogy. I throughly loved the 4 books in the Winter series and recommend those to any of you who haven’t read yet.
Troubles in Paradise wraps up the storyline of Irene and her two adult sons Cash and Baker. The final installment wasn’t my favorite. Something about it still feels unfinished to me. Adding the hurricane and a visit from Margaret Quinn felt like unnecessary filler. Had these several pages not been in the book, I think it would have flowed better. I was also disappointed that Irene seemed to have a big lack of maturity completely uncharacteristic of a woman who is 57.
Nonetheless if you’ve enjoyed the first two books, you’ll want to finish the journey with the Steele family!
Thank you to the publisher for the ARC.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for ARC of the ebook copy in exchange for my honest review. Troubles in Paradise, by Elin Hilderbrand, is a good beach read. It is a bit predictable with characters you'll both love and hate. The setting is in the Caribbean, with descriptions that will remind you of past visits. Add a little love story or two and you have Hilderbrand's latest book.
This final book in a trilogy concludes the story of Irene, Huck and their family. It is a fast read that will have you dreaming of a beach vacation.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review. Elin Hilderbrand steps slightly out of the box with this book, since it’s set on St. John, USVI, not Nantucket. One of the main characters is Irene, the widow of Russ, who was murdered at the beginning of the book. Irene, along with her sons Cash and Baker, arrive on St. John to take possession of the large villa that Russ had bought. What happened next sent all their lives spinning out of control. There’s a lot of rocky road romances, deception, murder, local characters, an unexpected pregnancy, and even a hurricane.
This is the final book in the Paradise trilogy and I have to say each one has been an enjoyable read. St. John is such a fabulous location and I felt like the author really captured the island lifestyle perfectly.
I liked all the characters and in this final book, each one seemed to be finding their way and on the path to living their best lives. Some things were still a bit unsettled, but not so much I felt that the story was left hanging.
My biggest complaint with this final book was the FBI storyline. I was really looking forward to the investigative process and ended up being a bit disappointed with the fast and easy wrap-up. Also, what about Ted Croft? I wanted to “meet” him and at least have a glimpse at the man behind all of the trouble.
In spite of my complaints, I did enjoy the book and would recommend to readers. This is a perfect vacation read and a great way to wrap up my summer vacation.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Little Brown & Company for allowing me to read an advance copy and give my honest review.

Let me just say that Elin Hildebrand is my absolute favourite author, and I have read and loved many of her most popular books. This was my first trilogy from her and they did not disappoint-I loved all three books so very much! Over the course of the trilogy, I became personally invested in the Steele family and the people they meet on St. John. I also fell in love with the USVI’s and hope to travel there someday, thanks to these books! Troubles in Paradise brought a bittersweet ending to the trilogy. I will miss Irene, Baker, Cash, Ayers, Huck and his family, I truly enjoyed reading about these characters. Hildebrand’s Island trilogy gets 5 stars from me and I highly recommend them as a great series for reading on the beach or for those who dream of a tropical vacation during those cold winter months.
What a wonderful escape this book is, just like the two previous books in the series. I've never been to the Virgin Islands, but these books make me feel as if I have. I enjoyed getting to know the characters in the series, and will miss them now that it's over. My one minor quibble is with the section relating to the hurricane. Although it was interesting to read, it felt tacked on, and didn't really advance any of the storyline.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for providing the ARC for review.
I loved Troubles in Paradise just as much as I loved the first two books of the trilogy. I was sorry when it ended; I would love to read more about these characters.
Irene has returned to St. John to run charters with Huck. The FBI has seized Russ's mansion so she's also living with Huck and Maia. Cash has also returned to St. John to crew aboard the Treasure Island. His friend/girlfriend, Tilda, has offered him a place to stay. Baker has come back to St. John to pursue his relationship with Ayres. Finding himself homeless, Baker has rented a house. Ayres herself is full of surprises.
I would highly recommend this series to anyone who loves chick lit, romance and beach reads.
In the interest of full disclosure, I received a free digital copy of this title to review from Net Galley.

Can never go wrong with Elin Hilderbrand. Great conclusion to the paradise series. Love how EH worked this crazy drama out and interwove the two families together.
Troubles in Paradise was the perfect conclusion to this three book series. I don't want to say too much because you really need to read the first two books first, but with that being said I couldn't put this one down. Elin Hilderbrand's characters always feel so real and relatable to me. This book was no different, each character is flawed in their own ways but you can't help but cheer on the Steele family as they begin to put their lives back together.
I also thought that the cameo from the Winter Street Series was very well done, and it's always fun to visit former characters!
I will miss the Steele family and the escape to St. John during these crazy times.
I love Elin Hilderbrand's novels but was worried that I hadn't read the first 2 in this series and would be left in the dark. Now I'm glad I didn't read them because I feel like you really get the full story in this one and it seems a little like overkill to read the plot again. The book focuses on Irene and her sons who have moved to St. John after Irene discovers her husband was leading a double life with a mistress and a little girl on the island. But when he and the mistress are killed in a helicopter explosion, Irene knows she must get to the bottom of all of this. And she does, but it's a multi-layered plot that involves her sons, her new granddaughter, and many of the islanders. It's a perfect escape for summer!
Elin Hilderbrand is the queen of summer novels set in paradise, and this final novel in a three-part series set in the Virgin Islands is no exception.
I feel like you must read the other two parts of the series to truly enjoy this book, why wouldn't you read the other two? You know anything written by Hilderbrand is going to be engaging.
I loved heading back to the Virgin Islands and connecting with the characters for one last time.
This ARC of this novel was provided via Netgalley for my honest opinion and review of this uncorrected proof copy.
The Steele family is back in St. John for the final installment of the Paradise series. As each member of the family continues to deal with the death and criminal activities of their father, they all begin to settle in permance residence on the island. While they all agree this is the place they want to restart their lives, it is not smooth sailing for any of them as each undergoes significant setbacks in the book, including an unprecidented hurricane.
This novel is a satisfying ending to a series that provided characters that I was rooting for and cared about.
It was fun to be back on the Island with Huck, Irene and the gang. I've enjoyed getting to know them in this trilogy and while it would be nice to read it in the fall and dream of summer, it was a fun read for the hot days in August. This book finally brings us through the story of Russ and his tie up as the fall guy with Todd Croft. We see how the storyline between Irene and Huck, as well as Ayers and Baker plays out. I thought this was the best of the three. If you step back and look at the trilogy, you'd say it is unlikely any of the events in these books could happen but I think that's what makes them work. In a COVID world, most readers want familiar characters, cozy storylines and a story that wraps up and I think this provides it all. It helps that the author was sheltered on the USVI for seven weeks this year and has traveled extensively. She brings all the landmarks and sites in and it makes for a fun and enjoyable read.
