Troubles in Paradise by Elin Hilderbrand Reviewed on July 10, 2020
I really am NOT a “Chick Lit/ Romance/ Character plot driven” fan!!!
….Aww but I am a major author, Elin Hilderbrand fan.
Guess what? This is a Chick Lit/Romance/ Character Plot driven” story and I LOVED IT!!
This is my 20th novel and it is #3 in this trilogy, I totally got caught up with these characters in the other two books ~ Huck, Irene, Cash, Baker, Ayers, and Maia
I enjoyed and actually love them wanted to read more. Actually sad that this is the end of the series! Certainly hope that these St John's characters drop by in another novel….
I love when EH has characters from other novels drop in the current story. I totally shouted out loud Margaret Quinn!!! I believe EH is showing she appreciates those of us who follow her!!!!
When I started this I thought “No way is it going to be as good at "28 Summers"! LOL
EH never disappoints me. Totally love her!!!!
Always enjoy reading the Acknowledgements and Author's Notes.
Ms. Hilderbrand is a great story teller and she certainly does do her research!!
Want to thank NetGalley and Little Brown and Company for this early release granted to me in exchange for an honest professional review. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for October 6, 2020
Elin does it again! This is the highly anticipated finale of a wonderful 3 part series! My friends and I were obsessed with this trilogy, and we couldn’t wait for the conclusion. Is there anything Elin can’t do?
The third book in the Paradise trilogy wraps up in a satisfying conclusion. I love Elin Hilderbrand's writing and she brings her characters, as well as the island of St. John, to life. I have to say, being the third in this series and having read the previous two books, I did have to stop and try to remember what happened in the prior two books, so I would not recommend reading this as a stand-alone - you definitely want to go back and read the first two in the series. My only complaint about this book is that it had to end and the series is over. This third book is another winner and I can't wait to see what Elin Hilderbrand writes next. 5 stars for another great read!
Troubles in Paradise is the final book in Elin Hilderbrand's Paradise trilogy. It does a fine job of wrapping up the stories of Cash, Baker, Irene, Maia, and Ayers. However, there were way too many extraneous characters introduced, and the book probably could have been cut in half and still managed to finish the story. Thanks to NetGalley for the free digital review copy. All opinions are my own.
The final book in Elin Hilderbrand's series did not disappoint. While the book contains many characters with their respective storylines, Hilderbrand artfully weaves them together in a way that leaves the reader satisfied (and anticipating her next book!). While I have never visited St. John, Hilderbrand always does a wonderful job of transporting the reader to the setting of her book. I especially enjoyed her infusion of local culture into the story. All of her books are wonderful "beach reads" and this title fit that bill.
This is the Elin Hilderbrand I love. Troubles in Paradise is book 2 in the series and picked up right where the previous story left off, the morning after the FBI seized Irene's villa. From there we learn even more about the history of some of our favorite St. John's characters and we get to follow them as they adjust to their new lives and changes in paradise. This book gives us a point of view from each of the characters which is nice as I really don't think I have any favorites - I enjoy them all. We even get a visit from some "Winter" Characters. This book fits perfectly within the series and will leave readers wanting more of our favorite paradise stories. It does feel like a complete ending, so I am not sure if is this is the last one, but I certainly hope not.
After not really enjoying the middle book in this series (What happens in paradise), I was worried I was going to be left disappointed at the end of this series. However, I was pleasantly surprised with how pleased I was with how it ended. I really liked how one of the narrators was "St. John", as it was fun to see that perspective. I enjoyed that we got answers to a lot a of questions and everyone got to look forward. With so many narrators, I did find it hard to connect as I felt I missed parts of the story. I had to learn what was happening to characters as their stories were told by other narrators and it made it feel like you were "missing things" at times. However, if you're a fan of the series, definitely worth reading the finale!
LOVED the ending to this fantastic series. Elin Hilderbrand never disappoints. Her latest, Troubles in Paradise, picks right up where the previous book ends and again weaves a compelling story with characters we all love. Great book to read by the beach, by the pool or anywhere.
Thank you to netgalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
This is such a fabulous conclusion to this series! This trilogy is the perfect escape read—it’s like a vacation in a book when you can almost taste the food and smell the ocean breeze. I loved the way that Hilderbrand wraps everything up for the Steele family, and the appearance by a previous book’s character was an unexpected treat! Thank you to NetGalley and Little, Brown & Co. for the librarian preview.
Family drama, small town gossip, love triangles and untimely demise make for well-choreographed chaos in paradise. This is a fast paced beach read with a satisfying conclusion to Hilderbrand’s trilogy.
Such a great book!!! I loved the characters and the setting so much. The words jump off the page at you and you will find yourself wanting more.
Elin Hilderbrand gives a very fitting end to the beloved Steele family and all there friends and comrades on St. John in Troubles in Paradise, the third and final book in her Paradise trilogy.
I truly loved each of these books. I thought it had such a wonderful set up and all of the characters were relatable and I loved the themes she tackled of family and deception and recovering after a major loss. This book in particular was so great in that our main character Irene finally gets the answers she was looking for of what happened to her husband Russ in his plane crash on New Years Day.
And no spoilers, but Elin brings back a huge fan favorite character from her previous books for a big cameo at the end of this one and I hope this means they're going to get there own solo book soon!
My only problems with the book is that after a while it got a little repetitive and things were dragged out that didn't need to be, as much as I loved both this novel and What Happens in Paradise, book #2, they were both unnecessarily long and could have been condensed for this to be a duology instead of a trilogy. But am I complaining? Not at all. The magic of these books is how great the characters are, and I loved spending as much time as I could with them!
Thanks to NetGalley for the arc in exchange for a review.
Troubles in Paradise is the last book of a trilogy written by the fantastic Elin Hilderbrand. Her books always make me feel like home and this book is no different. The questions that you are left with after Paradise Book #2 are all answered in Troubles in Paradise. It was nice to be back with old friends Huck, Irene, Cash, Baker, Ayres, and Maia. Of course I would love more books about St John and this cast of characters, but I felt that Elin ended the trilogy in a good way. If you are a fan of Elin Hilderbrand, you will not be disappointed in this book!
I have only one criticism of this wonderful novel, it’s the final book in the trilogy! I am so invested in the Steele family that I am saddened to know that I won’t learn about their future. Hilderbrand writes novels that always enchant me, written on her islands, Nantucket and St John The books are lovely reads, especially during these turbulent days. Having read everything she has written, I am never disappointed. Her last novel, 28 Summers, will surely be this year’s favorite beach read.
Serendipitously I had visited St John a few weeks before the giant, destructive hurricane, so the setting and the descriptions were very real to me. As much as I loved the characters, Hilderbrand is able to make me love the settings.
This last book of the trilogy brings closure to the lives of the Steele family. Despite the tumultuous storm, we can picture both the family and the island rebuilding for the future. I thank Hilderbrand for bringing reliable joy and engagement into my life, especially now.
Thank you Netgalley for for allowing me to read this lovely novel.
I will miss this series and these characters. A very satisfying end but hope Elin brings us more of the Steele family
"The island...[has] taught Irene some things about resilience, about patience, and, most of all, about hope."
The conclusion of a much-loved trilogy is always bittersweet. It's hard to say goodbye to characters you've grown to "know" and care about after all they've been through. After experiencing their tragedies, joys, and dreams, it always comes to the moment when you have to let go and can close the book with the confidence that everything will be alright in that world. I really had fun reading these 3 books set in a place that I definitely found to be a little bit of paradise. St. John is a unique island and i really enjoyed reading the references to familiar spots that I've visited there. Although sometimes the novel reads like a tourist travel guide advertisement, it was fun to be able to identify with so many of them. Just keep in mind that you really need to start at the beginning as this one is definitely not a standalone despite the author giving some of the relevant details from the previous two books as needed -- especially if you're like me and need specific reminders having waited for this release.
I won't rehash the plot so as not to give any spoilers. I liked the writing style and also the way that Hilderbrand gave us the point of view of so many different characters. It contains a lot of drama but it is, after all, a love story. You can tell that she loves St. John and that she's spent a lot of time on the island.
I've not previously read any books by this author and I hope that she chooses St. John for future work as that was the main reason I wanted to check these out. I was not disappointed though this is not the genre I usually prefer! If you have ever visited the USVI, or want to, this is a great way to highlight the memories or give a preview of its beauty. Enjoy!
Thank you to NetGalley and Little, Brown and Company for this e-book ARC to read, review and recommend.
