After reading the second book and really disliking it, I had to go back and refresh my memory on what happened at the end. This book was slightly better than the second book was wasn't nearly as good as the first book in the series. I felt as if the characters didn’t even really care to be in the story. They were boring and the story didn’t keep me engaged. I much prefer Elin Hilderbrand’s standalone novels to this series. However, this book was much more readable than the last one in this series.
I teared up at the end of this book. I am so sad to see this series end. I want more! please give us at least one more. We need answers about Russ and Rosie, Ayers and Baker and the rest of the crew. I want a book on just the Houston school wives!
Thank you Elin Hilderbrand for a wonderful series.
I loved the first two books in this series: Winter in Paradise and What Happens in Paradise, and long awaited the release of Troubles in Paradise. Let me first say that the end was captivating -- the storm hooked me and I couldn't read fast enough to see how everything turned out. However, up until that point, the plot and characters felt messy, with a lot of gaps in the characters ever-changing emotions and relationships.
Thank you so much for the advanced read in exchange for this review! I was thrilled to read the conclusion of the paradise series. It did not disappoint. I wanted more suspense, but I realize that this was not a thriller. It was still good, and a good way to wrap up the story. I appreciated Elin's character development so much. I wish there would be a fourth one. I haven't read her others but intend to explore now!
What a great way to end the trilogy. I loved this series and would highly recommend it. It captivated me from the first book, and the characters made you want to continue reading to follow their lives and see how they played out in the book.
I desperately wanted to love Troubles in Paradise because I a. love her books and b. loved the first book of this trilogy. I didn't like the second book, which was about a short story's worth of material stretttttched into a novel but given that it's Elin Hilderbrand, and her past few summer releases have been amazing, I figured "hey, bump in the road!"
Well, Troubles in Paradise is another bump. A very bumpy bump. It does have a plot, but the novel changes its mind about what it is so often I felt like I had whiplash. (Russ's death! A snooping/interested in romance FBI agent! Maia! Ayers! The hurricane!) It was really frustrating because just when I started to care about a plot point, it would vanish.
As for the characters, Irene, Ayers, and Maia are all beautiful and perfect and I went from caring about them to skipping the many, many rapturous passages about their awesomeness. Baker and Cash became total one note nonentities and Huck spent the entire book agonizing over Irene, as if there was any other man Irene ever thought about or looked at.
When the island got its own narration (I wish I was kidding) I knew the book wouldn't be good but by the end it was a hot mess of what felt like notes pasted into a document and then printed with no one ever checking to see if it contained plot (no) or was coherent (also no)
Elin Hilderbrand can be an amazing author and I like her books so much but please, just a fall one-off like this trilogy should have been! This phoning it in fall "series" doesn't work and I worry it will turn off readers who discover her and chose them as their first backlist reads.
Thanks to Netgalley, I got to read this book for free in exchange for my honest opinion. Troubles in Paradise missed the mark for me. It sounded like it would be a great book but the plot line fell flat, the characters were kind of boring, and I eventually lost interest in the book.
Fantastic wrap up to this series. There are troubles, temptations and truths revealed with Hilderbrand's smart prose. A must read for a fan and a nice tropical distraction when we can't travel.
Really loved this whole tripling but this one was my favorite. Thanks for letting me read a review copy. I really enjoy reading her books. This was a nice escape for this year. Thanks again.
Another great book by Elin Hilderbrand! So sad to see this series end...but it was a great trilogy.
A wonderful end to the series, Troubles in Paradise does not disappoint. Filled will drama, friendship, love, and happy endings, this book is the perfect esape!
Thank you, NetGalley, for an advanced copy of this novel.
A shining conclusion to Elin Hilderbrand’s St John island trilogy ties up loose ends while taking us on twists and turns. With her trademark writing style this is a delightful read.
I love the first two books in this series but this one fell a little flat for me for some reason. I still love ALL of Elin’s books but this one was just okay for me! I look forward to reading more of her books in the future!
Trouble in Paradise is the conclusion of the Hilderbrand's Paradise trilogy. The book follows the fall out that occurs after book two where the villa in St. John's is seized by the FBI in connection with the crimes that Russ may have actively been engaged in. The family has to now not only deal with the fall out of Russ's secret life but now the reality that he may have had a much darker side than any of them realized. Although the book drags at the end, I think it's ultimately a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy.
Thank you, NetGalley for the ARC of this book
"Troubles in Paradise" was a satisfying ending to the Winter in Paradise trilogy. I cared for the characters and was interested in what was going to happen next. The descriptions of St. John and the Virgin Islands, definitely make me want to go there! I love how Hilderbrand gave the island its own chapters and included a natural disaster in the story, as it is not always paradise on a tropical island. I thought the storyline was a bit repetitive and choppy at times, due to switching POV with each chapter. Overall, I enjoyed the story and look forward to reading more of Elin Hilderbrand's books.
This is the final book in the Paradise series. It was fun returning to St. John in the Caribbean, meeting up with everyone, and bringing the story to a satisfying conclusion. However, it does appear that the author creates a few artificial conflicts to separate people before ending the story. Also, I grew tired of reading all the names of local restaurants, bars, and sailing businesses. It almost felt like the author had promised to name-drop everyone in her final book. Still, the book is fun, entertaining, and interesting. Thanks to NetGalley and Little, Brown and Co. for providing an ARC.
Troubles in Paradise is the third book in Elin Hilderbrand's Paradise series. This book does a great job of tying the story together with a bow. All the details come together for a very satisfying ending. We finally figure out how all the storylines fit together and what really happened to the helicopter on New years day. Elin also did a beautiful job of paying homage to the resilience of a post-hurricane St. John and The US Virgin Islands.
Thoroughly enjoyed reading TIP. You are quickly absorbed into the luscious tropical setting on St John’s. The characters have become so familiar and real like. Rooting for love in all their lives. Elin has that special ability to make her novels true to life and engrossing. Highly recommend this series. #Netgalley #TroublesInParadise
Irene comes back to St. John expecting to live in the beautiful home her husband built for his girlfriend. When Russ and Rosie’s plane went down, Irene found out her husband had two families, was involved in money laundering and now all assets are frozen. During Russ’s funeral Irene formed strong ties to the land and Huck, Rosie’s stepdad. Irene’s sons have arrived, and no one has a place to stay. Everyone has relationship problems throughout this book, which seemed a bit disjointed for me. Although this is a third book, it does stand alone. I did enjoy the characters who all had to work through trust issues and learn to stand on their own. Loved Baker’s school wives both in Houston and on St. John.
Elin does it again! The last installment in her trilogy, Winter in Paradise, makes this mark. The story was well paced with multiple viewpoints. I was able to keep track of who was telling the story when and all of their viewpoints had clear meaning. The setting. Caribbean, was well thought out and detailed. I could definitely picture myself being there one day.
