The start of a new series is always exciting but the start of a new series by an author you read a lot of is always beyond that. Susan stoker didn’t disappoint with anything in this book. We read about Bull and his team mates with how they are treated within the Army as Delta Force, we read about what they are doing now and then we get introduced to Skyler, an innocent naive person who sees the good in people but can sometimes be taken in by them. As you get through the story your mind is on one track only as we read each characters part but then we are thrown a curve ball when everything you thought was going to happen.........didn’t. By gosh did it muck up with my head. In a good way though because I was so itching to find out what, who and why. I love twists in a story and this one certainly had a twist. I really can’t wait for the next book. It can’t come quick enough.

I enjoyed the story but I personally wasn't a fan of our main man he was a bit too much on the alpha front for me. The story was good with plenty of action and drama to keep me interested. Skylar and Bull were very opposite sides of the spectrum. He was always looking out for danger everywhere which is understandable considering his life and his work. Skylar was very sweet and innocent. Overall it was a good story but Bull just didn't do it for me.

Another amazing book by Susan. This was about Skylar and Bull. They met while Bull was on the job, tow trucking. Sparks flying immediately. The writing style is one that sparks your interest and doesn’t let go. We have such a build up and I love how she puts the bad guys just randomly into the book. We search for more until the climax and it’s the most intense ending. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

This was a my first novel by this author. This is a good to start the series. I love the alpha male novels. This was a good one.

I’ve read a lot of Susan Stoker’s catalogue and while her books can be a little formulaic, I actually saw growth in this story. Oftentimes her main characters and background characters are completely black and white without any shading which can be a little boring. I don’t need antiheroes in my romance but acknowledging that some people are doing their best in unequal circumstances is valid. There was still a little too much white/privileged savior but these characters were more interesting than some of her previous (without significant trauma) and I’m looking forward to the rest of this series.

"Trusting Skylar" begins a new series for Susan Stoker, focused on the four Silverstone Towing Co. owners- who used to be Delta Forces. This book introduces us to the group and its' leader, Carson "Bull" Rhodes. He falls for kindergarten teach Skylar and spends most of the book not only wooing her, but worrying over how to tell her that he and his friends still work with the government taking out the worst humanity has to offer. I was impressed that it never entered Bull's mind to lie to Skylar, or to keep his 'side job' a secret once he was sure she was the one for him. Plenty of guys would have done that and then backtracked when the woman found out anyway. So, kudos to Bull for that. Of course, he is terrible at trying to explain things and Skylar acts the way pretty much anyone would act- if you're not shocked that your boyfriend leaves the country on secret missions then I'd be shocked.

"Trusting Skylar" had a slower pace than many of Stoker's books, which was ok for awhile, but I was ready for more conflict and action a few chapters before it finally started happening. When things do pick up they get real fast and Stoker does an excellent job at bringing the reader into the action-and emotions-of her characters. An overall good introduction to a new series. I'll be looking forward to the next one!

A fantastic start to a new series by Susan. Susan is known for writing military men who are alphas and love their woman fiercely. Trusting Skylar is no different. Bull was an epic hero and I loved his character and they way he wanted to protect Skylar at all cost. The chemistry between Skylar and Bull was also sizzling through each page. I'm excited to read about the other guys in this book.

I enjoyed this novel,being in one of my favourite genre’s. Well written, well driven plot, and enough romance to keep the reader engrossed until the end.

This new series begins and links with the final book in Stoker’s Mountain Mercenaries series. The theme of book one seems to be opposes attract, and I am looking forward to discovering if this theme makes its way throughout the series. This book also introduces the next and I hope it will allow readers to keep tabs on characters from the previous books in the series.

As a reader I like to sometimes try books from genres I don’t normally read. Romantic suspense is just that, so when I saw ‘Trusting Skylar’ on NetGalley I thought I’d give it a go. If nothing else, it confirmed to me why I don’t normally read romantic suspense. On its own terms it’s not a terrible book, it’s just a its own terms aren’t ones that interest me.
Romantic suspense is a fairly broad category and ‘Trusting Skylar’ fits into the “tough military operative falls in love with a normal gal” niche within it. Susan Stoker specialises in this sort of thing, having penned series with titles like ‘SEAL of Protection’, ‘Delta Force Heroes’, ‘Mountain Mercenaries’ and ‘Ace Security’. She’s written a tonne of books (there are 21 in the ‘SEAL of Protection’ series alone), so there’s market here. I’m guessing the books have a similar setup to ‘Trusting Skylar’, which is the first book in a series of its own, ‘Silverstone’.
The story here concerns ex-special forces hero Bull and his team of buddies who run a towing company in middle America, whilst also occasionally going on international missions funded by the FBI to kill terrorists. The book opens with a pretty entertaining military sequence that reads a lot like something from a Gold Eagle book.
After that the romance part gets going and my interest levels nose dived. Bull meets Skylar, a kindergarten teacher with a nice ass and a heart of gold who only sees the best in people. He tows her car and acts weirdly protective of her then asks her on a date. We then get a couple of hundred pages of them spending time together. They talk to each other a lot and Bull continues being overly protective. They also talk to other people about their feelings and stuff a lot. Then, after a respectable amount of time dating, they have hot sex. Then after that there is some more suspense stuff which I won’t spoil.
Now romantic books aren’t really my thing, so I may be way off the mark here, but I thought the thing that makes a romance is the “will they, won’t they” tension of the story. In ‘Trusting Skylar’ the only things that cause that tension are Skylar being a bit nervous as she hasn’t had much luck with guys in the past, and Bull worrying about telling her he kills people for a living. At no point was I at all worried that they wouldn’t get it on.
The suspense part, after that entertaining start, is pretty lacking too. The end is kind of exciting, but it’s a hell of a long time coming and you have to wade through a lot of boring conversations to get to it. But the book wasn’t written for me, so who am I to judge. If this is your kind of thing, give it a go.

Ah guilty pleasure time. Sometimes I love to escape into a story where a no messing alpha sees what he wants and single-mindedly goes after her.

In real life this would be classic stage five clinger behaviour, but it's so easy to get lost in this story and not be weirded out by the guy publicly declaring his intentions as he picks her up for their first date.

And I have a few unresolved questions about just how a tow truck company can turn such a tidy profit, but, yeah, details.

I loved the feels I got from this and the tension built nicely towards a dangerous situation that, of course, required a daring rescue.

This is the first in a new series about a group of four ex delta force vets who run the (extremely profitable) tow truck company while enjoying a super secret sideline in black ops. This is Bull's story and it's a complete story that could be read as a standalone. I already know I'll be scrambling to read about the others. Recommended.

Trusting Skylar introduces readers to a new exciting series. That sees four Delta Force soldiers accepting an offer from a mysterious FBI agent and leaving the military to start their own business after being heavily sanctioned for taking out two high-value targets on a mission in Pakistan.

And with some action from the outset, a slow simmering mystery, and a nice punch of romance. Not to mention great characters, I was completely hooked. And honestly at times I found it incredibly hard to put this story down, and I'm genuinely looking forward to reading more from Bull, Gramps, Smoke and Eagle in the future.

Here is what I love about Susan’s books, they deal with things that are hard to read. For example, in this story there are guys who are basically assassins for the government. Are they good guys or bad guys? The differing points of views make you ask yourself the same question. Can Skylar deal with that or is it a no-go for her?

How can Susan make her heroes seem better than any man we have ever met? I applaud her for that because I fall in love with each hero in every book I have read. Bull is so sweet and caring, and yes alpha but he puts it in a way that makes you just nod you head yes. The slow romance of Bull and Skylar is so terribly sweet that it will keep you oohing and ahhing the whole time.

And of course there is the suspense part. I won’t give it away but the villain in this book creeped me out. Shivers…

Book 1 follows Carson ‘Bull’ Rhodes as he meets and falls for kindergarten teacher Skylar Reid. Can Skylar accept Bull’s career choices? A slow burn romance with a little suspense. I loved Skylar. She was strong willed, independent and she had a big heart, she was the perfect match for Bull, who’s protective instincts came to the forefront when it came to Skylar. An enjoyable action romance with wonderful characters. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher. This is my honest review.

Trusting Skyler has a great premise with romance, mystery and drama, but for me it just fell short and I really struggled.

I love a good romance, but prefer a slow burn to insta love and this book was instant love. Sure fine that's great, but the characters blurting out their whole lives and ideas really put me off. For Bull it felt very show off ish and for Skyler very perfect.
The other issue was the way the main female seems to view the her students without colour (which she mentions multiple times). It felt very PC to the point of putting PoC down and not embracing their culture and experiences.

This is my first from this author and I'm not encourage to pick up another, however I know she is well loved and maybe I just didn't get it?

Trusting Skylar by Susan Stoker is a hard one to critique. It's a novel which fills a very niche market, which I am sure it will be successful in. I imagine the target buyer would be one who can't wait to watch the latest Steven Seagal movie. Personally, I found it predictable and sickly sweet, almost to the point of throwing up. To give it my rating, I base my score purely on how well it would be received by patrons of the genre.

I was excited to see that Ms. Stoker had a new series coming out and to have the opportunity to read and review. I liked Carson and Skylar (although I was really disappointed in her reaction when he revealed his secret identity--I expected her to be better than that). I must say that based on other books I've read by this author, I expected there to be more action and suspense; this one was definitely focused more on the romance. With that being said, since this is the first book in the series, some time had to be spent introducing everyone and setting things up, so I think it fits that this one is a bit slower. I expect that the action will pick up in the others. I'm definitely intrigued enough to keep reading the series, especially after that epilogue!
