Yet another amazing book by Irene Hannon! It’s suspenseful, and the tension kept ramping up all throughout the story. I always love a detailed storyline that keeps me guessing, and the author certainly delivered that. I’m very glad that there’s more to come in this series.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
I love Hannon's romantic suspense books. She always finds a good balance between the two and jeeps you on your toes.
Brent was a great hero. I felt like he has a pretty good balance of professional and personal throughout the book.
Eve was a fierce. I usually like strong female leads but she was crazy strong. I felt she was a little too cavalier at times but overall liked her.
The suspense in this book was excellent. I never would have guessed who some of the villains were and usually I can in these books.
One small complaint was that some of the side characters' lives just abruptly dropped out of the book and I would have liked some closure. But other than that this was a fantastic read. I'm looking forward to the next 2 books in the series.
I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley. This is my honest review.
Fantastic protagonist! She’s not so confident as slip into arrogance, but rather a great balance of style and substance. The story is completely credible, which makes it all the scarier. I found myself racing through this as the writing style and pace really spurs you along.
Seeing as though Hannon used to write mainly romance, it should come as no surprise that the romance vs suspense in this novel is a little lopsided to the former. I'm not a huge fan of romance novels so that downgraded my experience. To her credit, she did throw in some red herrings and presented a lot of possibilities for who the primary antagonist was so the ENTIRE book wasn't predictable. More on that later.
I tend to be harder on Christian fiction authors than I probably should because I do appreciate that they write clean books. But I just feel like a lot of authors are seemingly out of touch with realistic dialogue and characters. Point of Danger was not the exception.
Disclaimer: this review is a little harsh in a (mostly) sarcastic way. If you regularly like Irene Hannon's books then I don't think what bothered me would really bother you which is why I gave this 3 instead of 2 stars. 3 means someone might like it. 2 means don't read it.
Alright, buckle up everyone.
This is going to seem nit-picky but if I'm going to dock stars for unrealistic dialogue, I'm going to back it up. Skip this if you don't care. I have a big vocabulary and I know a lot of people with bigger vocabularies than my own and no one uses the words "retrieve" (we don't retrieve our purse, we just go get it!), "garb", "courtship", "entered my orbit" in their regular day to day exchanges. Other times she missed the mark: Eve says immediately after a kiss- "Epic, as the younger crowd would say..." Eve tells her sister, "I'll put on up-tempo music and groove to the beat while I paint." Eve was voted "Most Likely to Beat the Odds" in high school (is that a real superlative schools do??) Eve thinks that listening to her sisters banter "was always a hoot." Eve tells Brent that she's going to read that night and starts describing the book she's reading "I'm immersed in a heartwarming series set in a charming seaside community". Eve tells her sister while sitting in the sun at 7 pm "Didn't anyone ever tell you that ultraviolet radiation is harmful to your skin?" Brent thinks that he's not interested in romance until "a gorgeous redhead with a passion for commendable principles entered his orbit five days ago." Another character with a controlling husband who suggests they eat breakfast at Bob Evans is "dismayed" by this and thinks "He knew she didn't like heavy, calorie-laden breakfasts. Knew she was working hard to lose weight after her late-term miscarriage. And Bob Evans wasn't the place to follow a diet. Worse yet, he'd insist she join him in the high-carb, high-fat splurge he could afford, given the physical nature of his construction job."
Have you rolled your eyes yet?? Maybe the million references to her spinning classes will do it for you. Or that basically every paragraph uses a cliché. Or her description of the sun being "the golden orb". Or that someone leaves a fake bomb on her porch (which is a felony) but THEN the culprit UPS the ante by calling into her live radio show saying Eve had an affair with a married man. Now THERE's a personal attack. It's getting SERIOUS now! "First a bomb, now a personal strike" I mean what's next?? Intentionally spilling their COFFEE on her SHIRT?!? Who knows where the strife will come from next.... Oh, and don't worry about Eve, though. She carries "pepper gel" with her wherever she goes. What the heck is pepper gel?? Literally every other human would use pepper SPRAY. Pepper gel makes me think she lathers her hands up with some peppery hand sanitizer and rubs it on her attackers face. Prove me wrong...
Let's also mention the texting that she uses in the book: "Was going 2 contact u" "She needs 2 b gone" I mean... really? For one... if people actually still text like this they need to ditch the Motorola brick phone and blow their minds with an iPhone. You would have to go out of your way to text those messages. It's not quicker, it's barely shorter, and it's not cool. Just type the words out bro.
Also questionable- (Sorry guys, looks like I have more to say than I thought I did) So someone leaves Eve a threatening note and they misspell the word "knife." I'm pretty sure everyone knows how to spell knife. It's literally the first word you learn how to spell when you learn that a k can be silent. I get Hannon wanted to present the note to seem different or to reveal a clue about the writer, but let's choose a little harder of a word for them to misspell. This was just comical. Sorry to spoil this one for you- the writer was NOT a kindergartner...
On a more serious note- the character who has a miscarriage defends to her husband about the necessity of her having a job by saying "sitting around here moping after the miscarriage wasn't healthy for me." 'Moping' is not the correct term here. It's called grieving. Having gone through a miscarriage myself, I would never have referred to my grieving time as "moping" around the house. Losing a child is devastating, especially considering it was mentioned this was a late-term miscarriage. I found this pretty insensitive and flippant though I'm sure she didn't intend it that way. Someone should have caught this and corrected it.
As for the overall plot and characters. I didn't really know this was going to be a romantic suspense novel until about 2 pages in when Eve (who wasn't really likable because she has no flaws) is described with lush lashes, full lips, and a graceful neck and Brent (who had no personality) is described with coffee-colored eyes and powerful shoulders. Oh yeah. These two definitely fall in love. And that ends up being the primary focus of the book. Sure there is some mystery about who is threatening Eve and a decent twist happens, but considering the author does a crappy job of tying up the lose ends of that ordeal at the end, I'm pretty sure she only cared about the redhead and loner detective getting to Tuscany together and just added the rest in for fillers.
So. Yeah. If you haven't figured this out by my opinions yet... I don't think I was the target audience for this book. I respect what she does and appreciate authors who write clean, Christian books. But this one was just a little too out of touch for me. I strained my eyes from rolling them too much.
But if you read and like a lot of Christian fiction/romance novels, this will honestly probably be a good read for you, don't let my cynicism stand in your way!

It's been a while since I've read an Irene Hannon novel, so I was excited to start this new release...and it was even better than I was anticipating!
I loved the characters! I've never read a story where the main character is a conservative talk show host. It was fascinating to see the details of her life and, wow, what danger she encountered! I liked how I couldn't easily guess any of the twists.
All in all, Point of Danger is going on my list of 2020 favorite reads - it was THAT good. I highly recommend it to fans of romantic suspense.

Unfortunately, I really didn't get far in this book. Something about the main character, Eve Reilly, turned me right off. Eve is conservative when it comes to her political views, and the way she states in the book, set off my Karen radar. I am not American, yet have many dear friends that are. Seeing the news this week, I just don't have the heart to keep trying with this one. I do want t thank the author and publisher for the chance to read this novel.
***I received a complimentary copy of this ebook from the publisher through NetGalley and a paperback. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.***
Always enjoy a good book by this author. She never disappoints her readers. Eve and Brent’s story had intrigue, mystery and a touch of Roman e that kept readers interested. Can’t wait for the next book.
Eve Reilly is a conservative radio talk show host who never minds talking about controversial topics, and she’s ticked off lots of people in the course of her career. But this time, someone’s doing more than talking back. When a mysterious package is dropped off on her doorstep, it’s time to call in the police.
Rookie detective Detective Brent Lange is assigned the case and he’s determined to keep Eve safe as he tries to figure out who is targeting her. His job is made harder by Eve’s determination to stay on the air and keep stating her opinions.
The attraction between Eve and Brent is palpable and well developed, with some obstacles to overcome if their relationship is to grow.
Irene Hannon weaves a suspenseful tale, with enough clues, suspects and twists and turns to keep the tension ratcheting higher as Eve and Brent try to connect the dots before the killer succeeds in silencing Eve for good.
I look forward to the next in this series by this talented author.
Eve Reilly is a woman who speaks her mind and a lot of people don't like that. Especially since her radio show is very popular. Unfortunately, fiction sometimes mirrors real life and Eve's life is in now in danger because someone doesn't like her beliefs.
Police detective Brent Lange gets assigned to her job and is trying very hard to get to the bottom of these threats against Eve. What I liked about this story, and that may very well be why it is called the Triple Threat series, is there are about three scenarios this could go. Each underlying threat seems valid and so I was kept guessing pretty much till the end.
We get a great panoramic view from some of the other characters points of views. Even the suspects. Of which some seemed obvious while others were more hidden. This put me in mind of the movie Bodyguard for some reason and it was a pretty intense read. Especially when like Eve, the reader was kept guessing and looking around every fictional corner as well.
I received a copy of this novel from Revell through Interviews and Reviews. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
This is the first book in I've read by this author and I'm definitely a concert. Really enjoyed this book, a chance to escape for s few hours into a well-written story with strong characters. A great blend of mystery of romance.
Point of Danger begins Irene Hannon’s Triple Threat series. I enjoyed this Romantic Suspense. It has a lot that I enjoy in a book. Which includes: mystery, suspense, inspiration, action, danger, adventure, and romance. I was intrigued with each page in this one. I really enjoyed getting to know Eva and Brent. They had great chemistry together and a perfect duo. The story was far from being predictable and I never knew where they would end up in each scene. The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat all through out the book. It was so very good.
Point of Danger gets five stars from me. I look forward to reading the next installment from the Triple Threat series to find out what happens following this one.
I received Point of Danger from the publisher. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
Hate mail is nothing new for conservative radio talk show host, Eve Reilly, but hate mail that ticks? That is both new and terrifying. When she calls in the police, newly-promoted Detective Brent Lange answers the call. Their attraction is both immediate and mutual, but hunting down the person who is terrorizing Eve takes precedence over anything personal.
As the threats escalate, can Eve stand strong and continue her talk show even though everything points to her show as the source of her antagonist's anger?
I love Irene Hannon's books! She writes both sweet, inspirational romance and gripping, teeth-clenching suspense (with a side note of romance) and she does both equally well. Point of Danger is book one in her new Triple Threat series, and it starts off with a (potential) bang. From the first page, the suspense builds to an ending I know I didn't see coming. I look forward to book 2, and getting to know another of Eve's sisters.
Suspense readers will love trying to figure out the puzzle of "who hates Eve enough to kill her" in Point of Danger. Romance readers will enjoy watching Eve and Brent fall for one another. I definitely recommend this book!
Eve Reilly has an opinion and she is not afraid to share it. She is an on-air radio personality that hosts a divisive talk show that pushes the envelope. However, it seems she has upset the wrong person and someone wants her GONE, preferably dead.
Detective Brett Lange is assigned to the case and some of the threats appear to be connected, or not. He needs to solve this case as the threats seem to be escalating. Additionally, he seems to be falling for this mouthy woman and does not want to lose her.
Point of Danger takes you on a wild ride trying to connect the dots and keeps you guessing, right to the end. I cannot wait for Book #2.
This was an edge of your seat work of fiction that had me draw in from the first page. Having never read anything by this author before I was new to her style of writing. I found it interesting that she was so obvious with her political views but I didn't find it took away from the storyline. The story did have a slightly predictable feel to it but it had a good combination of drama and romance.
Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to read this book.
The catchy 1st line of Ch. 1: “The package was ticking.”
Irene Hannon became a favorite author of mine with the books in her "Private Justice" trilogy, which are quite different from "Point of Danger."
This book has a strong focus on conservative political views with its main character, Eve, hosting a radio talk show highlighting some of the most controversial subjects of today's right and left winged groups. This made the suspense and dangers in this book feel very real and current, which I found both stressful and inspirational to read.
I love this author’s writing style and really enjoyed the way the characters and plot were developed in this book, with great pacing, and gripping surprise twists that kept me guessing and made it difficult to put this book down.
I now look forward to reading the next book in this “Triple Threat” series.

Story Notes
This latest story by Irene Hannon was one of the best I've read this year. The tension was incredible and perfect throughout the pages of the story and I was mad the two times I had to set it down to take care of life's responsibilities, hah! Eve Reilly was a great character who both knew her facts and was unafraid of standing up for her beliefs. She also had a kind heart that wanted to protect any and all in her circle of influence. People of this caliber are often the target of those who like to exert power and dominance over others and I loved how she took the challenge on. Brent was a great character too and a perfect opposite for Eve. He offered safety and protection that Eve needed and she, in turn, offered the challenge to him that his loveless life needed a change. Their discussions about what love really is and how it should be offered to others were a wonderful and a thought provoking topic for everyone to consider. The look in the minds of those involved in political violence was also a good addition to this story. I loved the multiple suspects and the slow reveal of those responsible for the terrible happenings. Ms. Hannon created a story that will linger with you after you finish the last page and remind you that everyone is not who they appear to be. A side note - I was glad to see that Doug worked things out with his wife. That was a beautiful inclusion in the story and I really enjoyed seeing it played out so well. I will certainly be recommending this story to others and am very much looking forward to the next in the series that comes out next year.
I received this temporary complimentary E-Book from Revell Publishing via NetGalley in order to provide a fair and honest review. I will receive no fiscal compensation for this review and the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.
A fantastic start to a new series by one of the best in romantic suspense. The beginning wasn’t a hit for me, but the rest of the story panned out beautifully making up for the rough start.
Eve Reilly isn’t worried when a few negative comments or message come her way. After hosting a controversial radio talk show for a while, she is used to getting the occasional hate mail. When a suspicious looking package ends up on her doorstep and she hears ticking, she knows things have gone too far. It’s time now for the police to be involved. Detective Brent Lange is called to the scene and can’t find any evidence linking someone to the incidents involving Eve. The threats don’t stop with the ticking package on her doorstep, things escalate quickly, and Brent must use all of his skills to find who is targeting Eve and how to stop them before anyone gets hurt. He quickly starts to feel something more for Eve, but his heart has been torn out before and he doesn’t want to go through anything like that again. Can he protect Eve while also protecting his heart?
Let me start by saying Irene Hannon is a fantastic Romantic Suspense writer. I love almost all of what she writes. While I’m not saying I didn’t love this story, I just have a few issues with how it started. Only seven pages in we have our main male protagonist, Brent, going to the scene of the ticking package left on Eve’s doorstep. The first thing he notices when he arrives is her every toned muscle, notable legs, gold-flecked irises, lush lashes and full lips. While all of this is beautiful description, I have a problem with it being the first thing he notices when called to a possible bomb threat. His mind as a detective should be focused on the scene around him, anyone that looks out of place, if the bomb squad has arrived and any number of things other than what was described here. This one page of description totally took me out of the story for about the next hundred pages. The ending played out great and I did greatly enjoy the story overall. I have read many romantic suspense stories over the years and come to realize how it works, not a problem with that, but don’t want to see this kind of description and romantic emotions from a character on page seven. Irene Hannon has been around long enough and written enough best sellers to get away with something like this, but I have come to expect better of her as a writer and hope to not see this again. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be picking up the next she writes without a doubt and continue recommending her to readers without thinking twice. I do recommend this to readers that are into romantic suspense and want a good heart-pounding story to keep them up long past bedtime. I received a complimentary copy of this title from the publisher. The views and opinions expressed within are my own.
When a new Irene Hannon book arrives at my doorstep, I know I will be up late reading! Point of Danger is the first book in the new series Triple Threat. First, let me point out that the cover art is just as suspenseful as the storyline itself.
Not only were the main characters intriguing , but the secondary characters were fun to get to know as well. Although I won't go in to detail on them to save any spoilers from leaking out. The main female character, Eve Reilly, doesn't hold back on her radio talk show regarding her stance and opinions. She's not only strong in her beliefs but also in her resolve to fix up her bungalow on her own. Her strength and determination shine throughout developing her character. Secondary characters are just as well developed and fun to get to know, from her sisters to her sweet neighbor.
Being from St. Louis, I don't always enjoy reading about my hometown because any inaccuracy pops out. But Irene Hannnon did an excellent job portraying the neighborhood, architecture and local hotspots throughout. Ted Drewes custard is truly all that it's cracked up to be!
Point of Danger is an excellent read! It would make for a great book club pick as well. There are plenty of discussion topics that could come from the pages.
I really appreciate it when an author is able to write a suspenseful novel without having a bunch of trashy language! I love how the characters have conflicts but always manage to figure things out. Every book I've ever read of hers, I have recommended for our library.
POINT OF DANGER is the first book in Ms. Hannon's newest series. This one is more political in content, and, of course, it raises ugly emotions. Someone is targeting talk-show radio host for her ultra-conservative views. When what appears to be a bomb appears on her front deck, the police realize that someone is intent on silencing Eve forever.
There are plenty of suspects and some very real possibilities. The police are stumped and Eve refuses to be silenced.
I was very surprised by the twist at the end.
I was given a copy free. All opinions are my own.
