Regina Scott paints such a vivid picture in Nothing Short of Wondrous, that you truly do feel like you are right there with the characters. Be prepared to sit and read for awhile. You won't want to let this book go.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I actually read Nothing Short of Wondrous back around when it was released, I had thought I posted my review, however I'm not finding it and fear I've lost it.
I do remember that I enjoyed Nothing Short of Wondrous though.
Yellowstone National Park 1886
The title says it all! Prepare to be transported back in time with wonderful descriptive prose that will make you feel as if you were there!
A story of the beginning of having the park under the supervision of the Calvary to stop the poachers and raiders of the wildlife. Kate is very happy as she runs a hotelier and is very familiar with the land.
This story is truly inspirational and watching two hearts who need each other come together. Love these stories~
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. Cute story/love story. It is kind of slow going at first but gets better. I found the audiobook through my local library so I decided to read it that way. The narrator did a good job.
I love a story set in our US National Parks. This one is set in Yellowstone in the Geyser Basin. I believe that location would be a little NW of the center of the big figure 8 road. I could not find any online history of an actual Geyser Gateway hotel in that area, but I'd like to think it really existed. And, I'd like to stay there!
Follow the story of Yellowstone when the Army was called in to help protect the land. The concessionaires were still separate entities, vying for total control of the park. This story focuses on a young widow doing her best to keep her livelihood going with the hotel she started with her impetuous late husband.
The scenery was well described, including the encounters with bison and even bears. I was enchanted and I hope Regina Scott will be writing more National Park stories.
A woman running an inn in the newly formed Yellowstone National Park must be made of stronge stuff. And indeed, Kate Tremaine is full of determination. She is determined to hold onto her Inn, even if her husband is no longer living. She is determined to protect the natural wonders she adores - even if that means being stern with her guests when they stray too close to the mud pots or geysers. Most of all she is determined to keep her son Danny safe and provide a secure home for him. When she first meets Leiutanent William Prescott, she is not sure whether or not is presence will help or hinder her in her goals. But then he offers to help her fix up her inn if she helps guide him through the unfamiliar territory he is sworn to protect. Soon they discover their interests are very much aligned. Unfortunately there is also a poacher on the loose - and he is determined to get rid of those who are meddling with his killing and trapping.
This was a fun read, though I thought some of the plot points and characters lacked believablity. The best aspects were the descriptions of Yellowstone at the time it was first becoming a part, and the two warmth portrayed between William and Kate and Kate's son. I also enjoyed the scenes with Kate's cook and her delicous sounding pies. Fans of a romances full of warmth and that will take them away to a a place filled with natural beauty will enjoy this one.
I love Yellowstone National Park and have been there many times. In fact, I only live about three hours away from the park. This novel, set in the early days of the park, was so fun to read. There were times when I knew exactly where things were taking place and that made it all the more real to me.
The story follows Kate, a widow who is running one of the hotels in the park. Danny is Kate’s son and together with the cook, Alberta, and the hired maids, Kate is doing a great job running the hotel. But not everything is easy. There are outfitters who want to buy out Kate and her lease with the government to run the hotel in the park needs to be renewed. On top of this, the army now has a presence in the park and that means that there are more people running around Kate’s beloved Yellowstone.
Some of the army are stationed not far from Kate’s hotel and they include Will, the lieutenant of this closer detachment. Will has some secrets but he is doing his best and Kate can tell that he actually cares about doing a good job and protecting Yellowstone from poachers. So Kate makes a deal Will and his men to show them around their area of Yellowstone in exchange for some help around the hotel.
The driving plot of the story was Kate’s attempt to get her hotel lease renewed and Will’s search for a dangerous poacher. Into this we got the building affection between Kate and Will and what that could means for then both.
Overall, I really enjoyed this story. It was wonderful to read a historical fiction novel about a place that I was so familiar with and then Kate is such a strong woman that I loved her story. Sure, there were parts that I could see coming before they got there and some parts that were not as developed as I would have liked. But overall, a wonderful novel about the early days of Yellowstone National Park.
There was much to look forward to about this book - a historical romance set in one of this country's most fascinating and beautiful national parks. Unfortunately, the story did not fulfill its promise for me. The story and characters were fine. A bit more information about the park's origins as well as a map as of 1886 would have been helpful.
But the key to good historical fiction is giving a true sense of time and place which is where Nothing Short of Wondrous fell short. Even though (or perhaps because?) I have visited the park several times, I did not find the descriptions of its natural features all that vivid or detailed. This was a disappointment since the thermal activity is such a large part of the uniqueness of this area and the park.
This author always takes me on a journey that I don't forget. In this book we see widow Kate Tremaine and her son Danny run a hotel in Yellowstone National Park. We are in the year 1886. She is hoping to keep her hotel open by securing a 10 year lease. Because she is a woman, there is some competition that she has to beat out. Enter Lt. Will Prescott and his band of cavalrymen. They want to be able to map out the area and need Kate's help. Kate helps them get to know the area - and Will helps her with some odds and ends around the house. I loved the chemistry between these two characters.
I don't know a lot about Yellowstone. I enjoyed the careful research that the author put into this book.
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley - all thoughts are my own.
I recently finished reading a book by an author I haven't read before. Nothing Short of Wondrous is book two in Regina Scott's American Wonders Collection. Kate Tremaine is a young widow living in Yellowstone National Park in 1886. The widow owns and operates a hotel in the park. I loved the vivid descriptions of the country, wildlife, and geysers in this book. It made me feel like I was there along with the heroine and hero. The story and emotions of the characters had real depth and were well thought out. I look forward to reading more books in this series.

I love Regina Scott’s books, and Yellowstone National Park is one of my favorite National Parks. So when I saw she had written a story set in Yellowstone, I knew I had to read it. She did a wonderful job with this book. I loved all the history she included about the earlier years of Yellowstone, and the way these details fit seamlessly into her story. The storyline was interesting and the characters were ones that I came to care about. There’s just the right blend of suspense and romance and both kept me very interested in the storyline. If you love Christian historical fiction, you’ll love this book.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
It peaked my interest because it was taken in historical times and with Yellowstone starting to be a well known tourist place. Hotel was getting started.
It was hard to get started and interested in it. I stuck with it and it soon became charming and witty.
I found the Lt. Will and Kate romantic as the storyline.unfolded.
It was about forgiveness and giving a chance.
I enjoyed it once I got invoved reading it.
Nothing Short of Wondrous was an interesting story. I enjoyed the setting and thought the characters were realistic. Kate was a wonderful main character. She was strong and in charge of her life. I loved how she knew the land so well and wasn't afraid to protect it.
The romance was good. I thought the characters were well-matched and the ending was satisfying.
All in all, with romance, good characters, and a little danger, Nothing Short of Wondrous was a very nice read and one I think fans of historical romance will enjoy.

A great cozy historical romance! This was the first book I read by Regina and it definitely won't be my !
I have wanted to travel to Yellowstone National Park for several years, but haven't made it there yet. When I heard about Regina Scott's new book being set in Yellowstone in the 1800s, I figured reading about it was the next best thing.
This is book is very descriptive! The author gives the reader a glimpse into a Park unspoiled by man. The main character, Kate, is determined to keep the area from being destroyed by destructive tourists and poachers. Kate has lived among Yellowstone's astounding beauty and its powerful dangers. She is happy to help the newest arrivals from the Army to navigate the perils of Yellowstone. She hopes that helping them will save her beloved area from troublemakers. But things take a turn when she develops feelings for the leader of the group, William Prescott.
I liked the characters very much. Kate is a strong woman with an adorable son. She has loyal employees working in her hotel. Overall a good book!
This was good. I will freely admit I did enjoy the first book better, but that might be my Covid malaise speaking. This was very nice, but it just wasn’t a top shelf for me.
I received a copy of this book to facilitate a review. All opinions are my own and I was not required to leave a review positive or otherwise.
While I absolutely appreciated receiving a copy of this book, I am writing a “did not finish” review. I did not finish this book as it was not my favorite plot trope (widowed with a child) and the plot seemed to progress almost too quickly and in an unlikely manner. I loved the setting of this book, but I was not captivated by the storyline after several chapters. This book just may not have been for me, but I know that many of my friends loved it! Thank you for the opportunity to review.
I have been enjoying going on author Scott's trips to the our country's parks and witnessing the early untouched beauty of them. In this adventure I was welcomed to a an inn in the Yellowstone. Besides the luscious landscape that this story takes place in, the history is also quite riveting.
Kate Tremaine is a widow with a young son who has the great responsibility of running one of the few inns in the wilds of Yellowstone. Having lost her husband in a terrible accident, she has a healthy respect for nature and a heart for the wildlife which are in danger of disappearing due to poachers. She is also in need of more help than she has and that is why she makes a deal with Lieutenant William Prescott. A bit of quid pro quo.
Will nor his men know the rough and rugged terrain of Yellowstone and they are in need of major guidance so that they can do their jobs appropriately. Helping others, protecting the wildlife, and being alert to the dangers that is unique to this land. As Will puts it, they are strangers in a foreign land.
Danger and beauty go hand in hand as these national treasures begin to be explored and respected for what they are. I hope to one day visit them myself and take in the majesty. And I mustn't forget to mention the lovely romance between Kate and Will and the adorable Danny who is a joy to his mother.
I was provided a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and Revell in exchange for an honest review.
In 1886, the U.S. Cavalry helps to protect the visitors and wildlife of America’s first National Park: Yellowstone. Cavalry Lieutenant William Prescott meets hotel owner and widower Kate Tremaine at the end of a gun when she catches him standing too close to a paint pot. After sorting out their misunderstanding, they come to an agreement. The cavalry needs a guide to the park, and Kate needs someone to make repairs on her hotel. But dangers lurk close by, and Will and Kate must rely on each other if they’re to keep both man and beast safe.
It’s not necessary to read book 1 of the American Wonders Collection series, as each book focuses on a different national park. This story truly captures the beauty of Yellowstone. The wilderness is its own character, and its creation is breathtaking. Scott has done great research on how the park looked in the late 1800s. The romance builds slowly and sweetly. However, the overall pace is languid. A few reveals are drawn out a bit too long, as readers can easily figure out who the culprit is. This is a gentle Christian romance with a captivating historical setting that will sweep readers away.
