Very much enjoyed this study and the interactivity. This title will remain within my faith resources. Not only would I work thru this title again, but will definitely recommend and gift to others.

This was a nice book to have as a companion to reading Scripture verse. I would probably recommend to beginner readers of the Bible. It can be a helpful reference guidebook to finding spiritual solutions to everyday problems.

I found this book easy to read but you must always have a bible at hand to look up scripture passages. This book was just okay for me, it was not what I was hoping to find with this type of book. I do recommend that others may really enjoy this book and might want to give it a try.

Thank you to the publisher "Harvest House Publishers" and Net galley for the opportunity to read this book and all thoughts and opinions expressed are unbiased and mine alone!

I have give a rating of 3 HELPFUL 🌟🌟🌟 STARS!!

I received an ARC from Harvest House Publishers, via NetGalley. This review is my personal opinion.

What I like about this devotional is although it has a main theme, each day has a different topic. With fresh, honest, and candid writing Jen Randle opens what means to hear God’s voice with practical advice I like that this book gives you the answer we ask many times: How do we know it came from God?. Great book I recommend it!

This 31 day devotional is about developing practices to grow in hearing God speak. I love to read about hearing the voice of God and I’m passionate about this topic. I think my favorite quote from the whole book, and it’s one that offers a great summary, is this: “The problem wasn’t that Adam and Eve ate some fruit but that they responded to the wrong voice, and that separated them from God.” This is exactly the lifelong challenge we face. I want to listen to and obey the voice of God no matter what.

“The ability to hear God...is developed by listening to God in daily disciplines of silence, prayer, studying and meditating on His word, and worship.” The author gives many practical ideas for actions you can take to be disciplined, suggestions for stepping out in faith, as well as reflection questions to plumb the depths of your heart. The author writes in a casual voice and feels like a friend next door. She shares some interesting stories to encourage us that we are all learning to do this thing as we go. There are no experts. It’s important that we try new things, step out in faith, cooperate with what God might be prompting us to do (checked against the word of God) and we learn. Growth comes from practicing faith in action. Yes to this!: “The world is saying, ‘Look at me!’, but you’re rising up and saying, ‘Look at Christ!’”

Included throughout the book are some great quotes from other authors. I loved this quote from David Platt. “The church I lead could have the least gifted, the least talented people, the fewest leaders, and the least money, and this church under the power of the Holy Spirit could still shake the nations for his glory.”

This is a great introduction to developing practices for hearing God’s voice. It will take time sitting with God, talking to Him.honestly, and listening for His response. There is nothing more exciting and more worthwhile. If you have never tried talking and listening to God, start today.

I received an arc copy from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion.

31 day journey broken into 3 "acts" designed to help the reader discern the voice of God and the move or prompting of the Holy Spirit. The first act helps the reader get into the proper position and mindset to hear from God, including salvation. It also outlines ways God speaks. The next two sections dig into potential obstacles and deeper into the topic.

Each day includes a teaching section, a challenge to undertake or way to respond to the material, a prayer, and a journaling prompt. Sometimes the response is to dig into a passage of scripture. In those cases, the journaling prompts follow a study pattern readers could apply to their study outside of this book. The tone of the writing is conversational, like meeting a mentor for coffee. The perspective on the Holy Spirit leans towards the charismatic.

There were a couple hiccups for me with this - personal preference issues. The tone was occasionally flippant or abrasive which was jarring. Also, the author has chosen to use "Holy Spirit" as a proper name, so 90% of the references are not to "THE Holy Spirit" but just "Holy Spirit" like you would use Jesus or God in a sentence. I get what she is going for and why she made that stylistic choice, but for me it was a distraction every time it happened. Finally, she chose to call her daily responses "hearing aids." This is a clever play on words, but it wasn't a reference I cared for. Again, these are personal preference issues.

I also read Discerning the Voice of God by Priscilla Shirer this year, and that was a better fit for me. The layouts are significantly different. This has a devotional layout where the Shirer book is nonfiction prose. Readers who prefer the devotional layout should give this a try.

Jenny writes interactive devotionals, meaning that the intention is for the reader to act on what she calls "hearing aids", steps to take to help the reader better listen for God's voice. This is not a book where you read a portion, think about it, and then read another portion to following day, resulting in a lot of knowledge but not much applcation. I would recommend a print copy if possible, because this is a book meant to be worked through. In addition to the type written words, there are also handwritten images that would probably look best in print. Jenny reminds the reader from the beginning that the whole purpose of her work is to point the reader to Jesus. I love that she shares ways that she's heard God in her own life because some people have the misconception that the only way to hear God's voice is to audibly hear a voice that is clearly God's speaking to them. Overall it's a very practical devotional written by an author of deep faith to increase the reader's awareness of God's voice. It also challenges the reader to take action to both hear His voice and deepen their faith.

Thank you Jenny Randle, the publishers and NetGalley for providing me with a free advance digital copy of this book to review. I enjoyed and benefitted so much from it’s pages that I’ve since pre-ordered my own physical copy.

In this book, Jenny provides intensely practical tips, steeped in experience and Biblical truth, to help us to hear God’s voice, to grow in relationship with the Holy Spirit and walk in Jesus’ footsteps.

Highly recommend.

This is a good 31 day exploration of how God speaks to us. Randle helps us recognize the various ways God speaks, how to identify and overcome barriers to hearing and obeying God, and how we can respond to what God is telling us. I like the interactive nature of the book with places for readers to respond.

Randle shares many of her own experiences to illustrate her teaching. She has incorporated a lesson and a challenge in each of the daily readings, as well as practices for us to complete. I like that she encourages us to have a buddy with whom we can interact as we work through the book. I like that she reminds us recognizing and correctly following God's voice is a process and we will probably make mistakes along the way. I like her extra suggestions at the end of the book, such as when we really missed it or when God seems silent.

Randle believes all the gifts of the Holy Spirit are available to us today. She believes in miracles and spiritual warfare. Her book may be more appreciated by Charismatic Christians but should not be ignored by any Christian.

This is a good book for new Christians as it includes good teaching and exercises on hearing from God. Seasoned Christians may not find anything new in this book but it would serve as a good refresher course.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

I think this devotional does a fabulous job of introducing the reader to sides of the Holy Spirit I never thought to explore by myself. Jenny brings both intellectual and easy to understand points that marry together to create a beautifully worded 31 day plan.

A thirty-one-day guided study to better know and hear God’s voice. It is interactive and meant to help guide and train your heart and mind to listen and receive from God. It is a simple and easy to follow format, yet powerful teaching and guidance. It is challenging and thought provoking in a way that stimulates growth. It is best to take the full thirty-one days and take your time as you digest the truths and lessons you will work through. I can see this being a great book to do as a Bible study with like-minded people. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are my own and freely given.

Thanks for the advanced copy.
The writing style of this is well laid out and is beautifully written. I am going to go back and take 31 days to work through this and do some proper journal work, I think I will truly appreciate it then.

Jenny has an encouraging writing style which makes the reader seem as if she is writing directly to them. Her honesty about struggling with moving when God prompts will resonate with readers.

I truly love this book. It is a 31 day quest to know The Holy Spirit . There is more to the Holy Spirit than I ever knew! The coverage of God the Father and Jesus are also part of the Triune God. Ms Randle has a way of explaining this complex subject that I have never understood until now. This book is meant to be done. I have started the journey and have all I need to have a more satisfying life in God using the schedule and lessons in this remarkable book which I feel is truly inspired by the Holy Spirit. Idont need all kinds of equipment to do this. Just a bible, this book, and a friend or mentor , or better yet a church of believers that are healthy in their belief. That said with this virus raging I have neither nearby at present. It isnt stopping me from doing this daily and finding peace and hope.
Another thing I really liked about Getting To Know Gods Voice was its common sense approach to what Ive noticed nowadays. People thinking G0d is telling them to do something when it isnt scripturally sound or doesnt sound like what Jesus would advise them to do. Personal opinions and decisions are part of our lives but would God really tell you to do something immoral? Obviously No. This book talks about that and does it in an easily inderstood way. All in all a sound journey to hope in trying times.

The book is written as a 31-day experience with challenges and journal prompts for each day. The goal is to listen and stay mindful. In silence wait for answers.

Great spiritual practice for everyday.

Getting to Know God's Voice is an interactive 31-day guide written to develop your relationship with God and an openness to his voice. I found many of the reflection questions to be powerful in developing this relationship and I found the exercises. given to be easy and actionable to build awareness of God's voice. However, I found the written portion of the chapters not to be the most helpful and the little written comments on the side were distracting. The author uses simple and approachable language which makes reading this easy and having it separated into 31-days makes it a more approachable guide than reading an entire book of the reflection questions. I think the reader should try their best to use this guide day-by-day to truly glean the most from this and to actively participate in the reflection questions - you might be surprised by how much you can learn!

Thank you to NetGalley, Harvest House Publishers, and the author Jenny Randle for the ARC of Getting to Know God's Voice. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Getting to Know God's Voice is a practical, scripture-rooted book about hearing God's voice. The book is written as a 31-day experience with challenges and journal prompts for each day.

I enjoyed this read for a great many reasons:
- the stories all seemed quite miraculous and strong
- heavy basis in scripture
- practical things to do in order to think about hearing God or allow for hearing God
- full of encouragement and affirmation to continue the process
- well-written, with plenty of conviction to boot!

I have to wonder if this would have gotten the full five stars if I had taken the 31 days and journaled and such, allowing the wisdom in this book to marinate in my soul. I did spend a good deal of time reflecting and praying while reading this book, but I wanted to be able to put out a timely review, so I read through the book in significantly less time than was recommended. That being said, I did make notes of exercises and prompts I'd like to return to in the future. Additionally, I think the fact that I got so much out of this despite my reading pace is a testament to the value of the book.
