I had some difficulty getting into the story in the first one third. But after that it proceeded well with a nice twist in the end. The lead detective is unstable and confused to begin with but later starts working it out sensibly. The connection to previous cases should have been picked up by the investigating team rather than a journalist. I will definitely recommend this new series and will wait for the next instalment.
Wow what an absolutely gorgeous start to the series! This has been completely gripping and unputdownable! I have absolutely loved this book.
Thanks to the hottest day of the year and being completely unable to sleep, I have devoured this book in one sitting.
This book is completely unique to any I've read previously and the cover initially attracted me because it is gorgeous. The story is just as fantastic.
I have loved everything about this book, it had been a gripping and unpredictable read and I am extremely excited for the next book in the series.
A definite five star read which I will highly recommend.

I guess I have two reasons why I will probably read the next book… because of the ending and Mackenzie ‘s decision with Sterling. The book itself was decent but MacKenzie as lead detective had some severe mental health issues. Also the teenager Abby was quite the detective herself . A little too unbelievable at times. This books showed that the past usually catches up with people and individuals we think we know often are deceitful and only concerned for themselves.
Girls are missing from a football mad town. This was an excellent story that continued to twist all the way through. I never expected the ending.
I am looking forward to the next in this series!
This is the first in a new series with Detective Mackenzie Price and was an enjoyable read.
Mack is called in to investigate the disappearance of a teenage girl Abby. Her disappearance is quickly linked to her best friend who disappeared a year before. Mack is still trying to come to terms with her difficult past. This was a good read and piqued my interest for the next book.
I didn’t love it and was unsure on the realism as Mack comes across as mentally unstable but no one seems to doubt her ability to be a detective. With the current climate making mental health much easier to discuss I’m not sure this would not of been addressed by her superiors.
I enjoyed it enough to read book two though to see where the story goes.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A new author for me and I look forward to more. The main character was interesting and I can't wait to see how her story develops.
This was a fast-paced crime/thriller which focuses around Mackenzie Price who is back living in her home town and investigating the disappearance of a girl who has gone missing exactly one year to the day her best friend also disappeared.
Mackenzie Price has a secret though and as a 12 year old she helped her mother hide a terrible crime and when a body is discovered in the woods near where she used to live she faces the prospect of what happened years ago being discovered and this would result in her world crashing in.
I thought the book had a great pace to it, I was hooked early on and kept reading to see where the story line was going. I loved Mackenzie, If the author continues the series I am sure she is going to become a character worthy of attention.
If you like police procedurals and a fast paced book then this is for you. The ending I did was a little bit far fetched but it didnt really detract from my enjoyment of the novel.
I will be looking forward to book 2 in this series.
I gave this book 3/5 - it was a good read which I enjoyed and read it over the space of a couple of days and thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this in return for an honest review.
What a ride! Lots of twists and turns in this exciting crime thriller.
Being that I have never read a book by Ruhi Choudhary,I was intrigued by the description. The storyline line has you going, from the very beginning to the last page. I thought I had things figured out, nope, I was wrong. My favorite kind of book, one that always surprises you at the end.
And the most important thing is that it is book one in a brand new series. Score!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy of the book.

Oh, goodie! Thanks to Ruhi Choudhary I now have a new series to follow. Terrific story with an unusual and interesting protag. Can't weird for the next one.
This was an interesting read with a good mystery. Taking place in the fictional small town of Lakemore, WA, the story starts with the disappearance of Abigail, who happens to be the best friend of another girl who disappeared a year before. The detective leading the investigation is Mackenzie (Mack), and the reader also gets to learn about her background.
The book was pretty fast paced the mystery unfolds quickly. While I didn't figure out all of what was going on until later in the book, there were clues throughout based on Mack's vocal opinions on certain issues. While the current story-line was good, a lot of the book went back to flashbacks and memories from Mack's traumatic childhood, and I honestly could have done without those. It felt repetitive to me and didn't add anything to my understanding of her character. I also felt frustrated with the way she handled her personal relationships with both her husband and her friend, Nick, and couldn't understand why she did some of the things she did.
There are twists and turns as the book goes on, some that I foresaw more than others. While the outcome is a little far-fetched, it wasn't so much so that it felt unbelievable, and I liked that. The final twist made me very happy and raised the book from a 3.5 to a 4 star vote for me.
I'd recommend this book to those who like mysteries and police procedurals. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Hidden Lake. Ruhi Choudhary
When she was 12 years old Mackenzie Price came home to find her mother had killed her abusive husband. Together they buried him in the woods.
Price is a fantastic character. Stuck in a prison cell created by her own mind, a Psychological Faraday Cage that refuses to allow her happiness, she suffers constant flashbacks of her childhood, and the abuse her mother suffered before her fathers death.
When the discovery of a body takes her deep into the woods close to her fathers shallow grave she’s worried that the crime will be uncovered and that her life and career will be ruined.
But it’s not her father, it’s the body of Erica, a girl that’s been missing for a year. The high school princes daughter of a rich family there have been posters of her up around the city since she disappeared. Everybody knows her face.
At the same time her body is discovered her Best Friend Abby goes missing, the daughter of a single mother, a mother who works as a waitress in a local strip club, she doesn’t get anywhere near the attention that Erica did.
That annoys Mackenzie, what annoys her even more is she is convinced the two cases are linked, but the senior officers in her department seem determined to keep the two investigations separate, concentrating the majority of their efforts on a girl that’s been dead for a year, instead of on a girl that’s only just gone missing and could still be alive.
What’s more Mackenzies only real friend in the Department, Nick, who is leading Erica’s murder investigation is being alienated by her, and now he’s the only one who seems to be thinking along the same lines as her. Eventually they will have to work together but at what cost.
This is a very simplistic outline of the start of a brilliantly complex plot that had me hooked from the start.
As the story expands, and Mackenzie’s story unfolds, her character becomes addictive. Emotional on the inside but steely on the out, she won’t allow herself stimulants like coffee, or cigarettes. Yet she ploughs through the day fuelled by little but fresh air. It has to take its tole.
Not only has Ruhi Choudhary created, a great character she has created a great scene, a fictional city on the brink of despondency. As she says, it’s a city people are escaping from more than they are being attracted to. Hopefully it’s a Canvas for her to paint many more pictures on as we see Mackenzie fight her demons as much as the city’s crime.
Without doubt she is now one of my must read authors, and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
i so enjoyed this book and a new author for me .Mackenzie goes back to the town that she ran from LAKMORE. she is a detective now. Erica went missing a year ago and now her best friend Abigail has gone missing Mackenzie has her own demons to fight and a cheating husband how this story just comes together is just brilliant greed lust money and power i so cant wait for next book.
