I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of The Next Widow, the first novel in a projected series to feature Detective Sergeant Luka Jericho and Dr Leah Wright, set in the fictional town of Cambria City, Pennsylvania.

When Leah returns home at midnight from a gruelling shift in the ER she finds her husband, Ian, slaughtered and her six year old daughter cowering under the bed. Luka is tasked with the investigation but he and his team struggle to find either a suspect or a motive.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Next Widow which is a tense, pulse pounding read that held my attention from start to finish. The narrative is split between Leah and Luka so the reader gets both sides, crime victim and investigator and also some of the characters’ history. I preferred Leah’s side of the story as I thought that the gamut of emotions that she goes through and her overwhelming need to protect Emily were well done and empathetic. I wasn’t as enthused by the investigation which seems to involve a lot of jumping to conclusions and twisting the facts to fit the theory.

I read constantly so not all the details of every book remain with me (I’m not getting any younger), I can’t name the book but I have read a similar plot before, to the extent that I had a good idea of the thrust of the novel. Not that it made any difference to my enjoyment as the details are different and the writer puts her own stamp on it. I did find the investigation annoying but the action, tension and excitement of Leah’s ordeal more than made up for it. The solution comes with action and a man from the government who confirms all our darkest suspicions about their suspect motives. It’s a nice touch. It might seem rather sudden with all information falling into place in a couple of chapters but I felt that the novel built to it with small hints throughout.

I would probably read another novel in the series for the entertainment and escapism it would offer but I’m not yet convinced by the characters, all of whom seem rather blinkered and entrenched in their prejudices.

The Next Widow is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

Must read! Wow, The Next Widow is the first book I’ve read from CJ Lyons and I can promise you it most certainly won’t be my last! From the very first page I was completely riveted by this fast paced novel. I thoroughly enjoy reading books that are centered around smart and strong women and Dr. Leah Wright was that and more! The storyline was very well planned out with perfectly timed twist and turns! I was excited to catch this series from the first book and I cannot wait for the second installment (need it now)! The Next Widow is a 5 star mystery/thriller that I highly recommend to everyone!

Moved too slow for me. I was surprised law enforcement latched onto 1 theory which made it kind of boring. No one was very likable by the end and the end seemed to come out of nowhere in an unbelievable climax
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this arc

The Next Widow is a heart pounding and edge of your seat thriller. Dr. Leah Wright returns home from a shift in the ER to find her front door open and a blood trail throughout the house. Following the blood, Leah finds her husband dead in their daughter's bedroom floor and her daughter balled up under the bed in shock. As the cops investigate, Leah quickly finds herself the leading suspect as she still finds herself under threat from an unknown source. Full of suspense, the story unfolds quickly and I could not find a stopping place to put the story down. The single minded determination of the police to look at Leah as the suspect had me wanting to scream as a mother must learn to protect herself and her child. Twisty and turning, the story keeps smacking you upside the head with some new development just when you think you have it all figured out. I really liked Leah but found myself wanting to smack Detective Luka Jericho with frustration and wondering how the team up will work out in the series to come. But you can betcha I will be reading the next book to find out. My voluntary, unbiased review is base upon a review copy from Netgalley.

Wow! I had no idea that I was going to love this book as much as I have. I have been completely unable to put this one down and have absolutely devoured this book.
This is a book which hooks you from very early on in the book. The author's writing style is clear and makes you feel as though you are right there watching the events play out.
There is absolutely no predicting where the author is taking the story which has made this a gripping and exciting read. I have absolutely loved this one and already added more by this author to my TBR list. I have absolutely adored this book and will be highly recommending it to others.
A definite five star read and another extremely talented author.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of The Next Widow by C.J. Lyons.

Also thank you to C.J. Lyons for writing such a unique thriller.

The Next Widow follows the story of ER doctor Leah Wright who finishes up a shift on Valentine’s Day, excited to get home to her husband, Ian. But when she arrives home, the door is ajar. Leah knows something is wrong, and she must travel inside to find her husband and young daughter.

The beginning of the story is gripping and a page turner. There are moments in the novel where you are left questioning what you thought you knew. Overall, this book is a above average thriller. The premise that this is the first novel is a series is exciting to me as a reader. I can’t wait to see what Lyons does next.

I recommend this book for anyone looking for a unique thriller.
4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Is Doctor Leah Wright a murderer, super Mom, wife of a cheater, or the love of her dead husband's life? This book takes the reader thru a myriad of twists and turns to find the answer. When Dr. Wright's husband is found dead, tortured, drugged and sitting by the bed where his daughter has gone to hide, it takes all the men and women of Detective Jericho's homicide team to come up with answers. They have to do it fast. Hour after hour Emily, the daughter of the murder victim, seems to be in more danger. Leah Wright finds roses left by the killer next to her sleeping daughter. The daughter does a drawing of a spaceman dressed in black that she says was responsible for the home invasion that killed her father. Is Leah Wright a vicious killer or a savior? What was Ian Wright working on for the government that might have gotten him killed?

This book has more twists and turns than a mountain road but eventually the truth comes out in an exciting climax. The characters are interesting, the plot well written, and the book is overall an exciting and fun read. One of the best mysteries of the season and even better is the first of a trilogy featuring Wright and Jericho.

Thanks to #NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

My first book by this author and I was hooked.

It's very clear she knows her way in the medical world, because of how she describes certain scenes and I like that a lot.

It's true that the main character Leah does not always make the best decisions, but let's face it: if she would have, we would have ended up with a very thin book. :) We also may not forget that she was traumatized, afraid and I guess you don't have all your brain cells in the right place during those times.

I am so happy, because I had figured out who was the culprit. The reason why they did what they did only became clear at the end. There were little pieces that started fitting together but the big revelation was rather shocking and very good indeed.

A great start to a new series. Can't wait to read part 2. 5 stars

Thank you, C.J. Lyons and Bookouture

The Next Widow is fantastic start to another unputdownable series by C.J Lyons. Dr Leah Wright returns home from her shift to an unthinkable crime. Detective Jericho is assigned to the case and will do anything to find the killer. From page one you will be hooked and it wont let up till the end. Looking forward to what’s next for Wright & Jericho.

Get ready for more twists and turns than your heart can handle in CJ Lyon's new book The Next Widow. ER doctor Leah is excited to get home after a long shift at the hospital on Valentine's Day. When she arrives home, her beloved husband is dead and her six-year-old daughter Emily is traumatized.

Investigators aren't sure who would want to kill Leah's husband, Ian. Was it his government contract? Was he having an affair? Or someone closer to Leah? Detective Luka Jericho is certain that this will be no easy open and shut murder case. No one is who they seem in this thriller.

Happy to read that there will be more books featuring Leah Wright and Luka Jericho. Be warned - you won't want to put this book down and will stay up very late at night.

Dr Leah Wright returned to her childhood home in rural Pennsylvania with her husband to find peace and quiet, start afresh and raise her six-year-old daughter Emily. But when she gets home one dark winter night, clutching roses in her hand, she finds her daughter huddled under her bed and her husband’s blood all over the floor...

WoW.... this book grabbed my attention from the first page! So very written by the Author!
I loved every bit of it! The character's just come alive! I would recommend this book to everyone who loves a good thriller read like I do!

Thank You NetGalley & CJ Lyons for this ARC I enjoyed it so much!

Wow this book had me guessing from beginning to end. Just as soon as I thought I had the bad guy figured out, there was a twist I didn't see coming. And even then, at the end another twist ended the book nicely. Recommended.

The Next Widow is an edge of your seat thriller. From the first page you are caught up in a nightmare that was supposed to be a special Valentine's Day celebration. Written by C. J. Lyons the story is told from different perspectives; the victims wife Dr. Emily, the killer, and Detective Luka Jericho. This was a case of extreme overkill by a seriously twisted killer and the detectives all tend to think it's the wife Dr. Emily who orchestrated it. Dr. Emily can only deal with their daughter's mental health as the six year old deals with what she saw and heard.
What a great writer you felt the horror of the gruesome crime but also the unequaled love of a mother for her daughter and the gut instinct of a good detective who has a heart.
I thank NetGalley, C. J. Lyons and Bookouture for allowing me to read this ARC. I highly recommend The Next Widow if you like this genre.

My thanks to Bookoutre, Netgalley and especially C.J. Lyons.
From page one I was hooked. Everything after? Heartbreak and denial. I don't think I've been left with these awful feelings for a long time.
This was a murder that was so visceral..
Right up until maybe the 80% mark, I was thinking how much I was reminded of Karin Slaughter. Then,.things got off beat. Probably just for me. I don't like tales that take "that" direction.
I will have to read more of these characters. My favorite thing? She's got tons of books out. I have no intention of reading them. They aren't what I like. This? This is a series that I have every intention of reading. More please!

I'm giving an honest review of this book, for the publisher and the author, CJ Lyons.

AMAZING read, and a great way to really get into books by CJ Lyons. While I have read other books by CJ Lyons, this one stood out and it kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book.

From the beginning, with the blood filled house, to the daughter under the bed, to the investigator, and then to everything pointing to the mother being the one who was at fault, this book just got better and better.

Thank you for writing this book and for allowing me an early release for an honest review.

I loved The Next Widow (Jericho and Wright Thrillers Book 1). CJ Lyons spins a great medical suspense crime drama. Leah Wright goes home after her shift as an Emergency Department physician. When she get home she is met with a horrific nightmare. Her husband has been murdered and her 6 year old daughter was the only witness. As much as Leah wants to find out who killed her husband, she also wants to protect her young traumatized daughter. Great medical-crime drama with an excellent medical back drop. I would definitely recommend this book.

What happens when a wife returns home on Valentine's day clutching a bouquet of roses, to find her husband murdered and daughter terrified...

When Dr Leah Wright she gets home one dark winter night, clutching roses in her hand, she finds her daughter, Emily, huddled under her bed and her husband’s blood all over the floor.

When Detective Luka Jericho is called to investigate, he’s shocked to learn that the killer left a witness behind – the victim’s young daughter. The scene is a painful reminder of his fiancé’s unsolved death, and he is desperate to find out what Emily saw that night.

Leah learned the hard way that the only person she could rely on was herself. But when she and Emily are attacked again, she realizes that she needs all the help possible to keep her daughter safe before the killer strikes again.

This was a good thriller but I didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to, since I felt it was a little dragged in between. I kind of figured out who was the killer midway, but I wanted to know what the motive was. I liked the character of Detective Luka Jericho more than that of Dr Leah Wright.

Overall an okay read. But that being said, I am looking forward to the next book in this series to see where it leads to.

Thank You to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!!

I never repeat the blurb. Seems as though I'm late to the party as this is the first work from this prolific author I have read. I shall, however, be back for more. Only 4* as the 'baddies' were SO easily identifiable so early on.

Another hit for C. J. Lyons! A superb thriller that will entice readers of many genres.

Leah, an ER doctor, returns home from another 12 hour day to chaos and terror!

Additionally the threat of being under suspicion for murder, now Leah's life becomes even more complicated. Although, Lead Detective Luka Jericho is seeing many angles to the case - he has other ideas. Still, he must take all of the facts and apply them to make the case...

Definitely a thrilling page-turner! I had trouble putting the book down. All of those who enjoy suspense, thrillers and mystery will devour this read.

Many Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for a GREAT story.
