I loved this book, it does get a bit dragging, but the story is so sweet! A girl who likes to shoot, a guy who stupidly ruins her reputation. Then realizes he'll do anything for her. It was a beautiful story. But ladies, this book has no "romantic scenes" not even one. Which if you read the book you understand why. but having read so many historical romances. you tend to expect some romance.

I enjoyed this clean romance story with Lord Edwin Hampton and Miss Cassandra Knightsbridge. And also the rest of the characters.

Six Duke's have came up with a plan to get their sons to marry. But their sons decided that they don't like this. Because the ton as heard about it and are now talking. So sons come up with a plan of their own. But after they follow their plan Lord Hampton started to realized that the plan was not so good. It could hurt a young woman by going through with the plan. But Lord Edwin Hampton to to late and the plan has gone through.

Miss Cassandra Knightsbridge is in London for her first season. She goes to a ball were she meet two of the sons that are being talked about.

This story was a clean romance that had me guessing if the two main characters would be able to get together. Because of plan the  sons came up with seam to make it hard to have  any bit of romance there.

I received a complimentary copy via Netgalley. This is my honest unbiased opinion.

Poor Lord Hampton is having an awfully bad day. Along with him, five other Viscounts have
had a meeting with their fathers and each one has been given the bad news. They are forcing their sons to marry, or they will be faced with severe penalties. This of course does not make them happy and they feel like the Mama’s are circling around them and the daughter are hunting them. Of course, a Viscount is rather a wonderful conquest for a family. Cassandra Knightsbridge has not had a usual upbringing and loves to ride like the devil. After all she in the only child and her father in very indulgent. She can ride and outshoot most men and society does not like that. This is a sweet historical romance, with charming characters that keep you turning the pages. I enjoyed reading this very much.

This was an interesting story. I have never read a book where soon to be duke's are put in an embarrassing situation. Usually, they can do whatever they want without any consequences and that is that. However, in this story there is consequences to their bad behavior and I applaud the author for doing that. I wish there was more interaction between the H and H in this book. I was waiting for the sparks to fly but the story never got around to that.

Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Cassandra is a debutante with a difference, Recently arrived from Surrey for her first season, she misses being able to ride her horse unaccompanied and shoot the occasional pheasant. In London, all talk centres around the 6 heirs to Dukedom and their fathers’ ultimatum to secure their future and get married. Edwin is determined to avoid the marital noose and, when he meets Cassandra, let’s her know he has no wish to pursue a deeper acquaintance. Which suits Cassandra just fine - she thinks he’s an arrogant snob!
In order to throw the ton of their scent, Edwin devises a plan to put Cassandra in the spotlight - a plan that backfires when he realises she’s the only woman for him. Now he has to convince her that his interest is genuine without her finding out he is the reason she’s involved in scandal. A great start to a series I am looking forward to reading.

The Viscount’s Sinful Bargain is the first book in the charming Dukes’ Pact Series. This was a sweet, clean romance and the characters were so delightful. The series is based on six dukes who decide they are tired of waiting around for their heirs to get married and have children. They contrive a way to force them to get married, but their heirs making try to find ways to avoid the marriage traps of all the matchmakers. The book was easy to read, fast-paced, and had a unique plot.

Three and a half stars. This review contains some mini spoilers.
This is a good if not improbable story and a good first book. Cass is a great character and Edward is a real cad. Actually, except for the “pact” six and one other, most of the characters in the book are delightful. The six men are pretty despicable and except for Edward, they remain so at the end. The romance isn’t the center of the story so it seems a little lacking in that kind of excitement. The book is not a bad way to spend a few hours.

What a fun series arc! 6 dashing ducal heirs and the fathers that make a pact to get them married! Okay, dashing is a stretch when it comes to Edwin. He made a choice to impugn our heroine's character early in the novel as a way to get he and his friends out of the mouths of the ton, and boy did it backfire. It was rather surprising to see the lovely lady Cassandra make him work hard for her forgiveness, as that is not the norm especially of regency romances.

But that gives you a little glimpse into who Cassandra is, a capable, open minded and free young lady who has been left mostly to her own devices and choices on her father's estate for most of her life. And don't you worry too much about her reputation among the ton, she has a large eclectic group of friends who support her. They were a great addition to the story!

I can't wait to read Sybil and Lockwood's story as the next in the series! I will definitely be checking that out. I have to also say I loved the development and the obvious care with the perfection of what dialogue was like in that period. Sometimes you read period pieces that really take wild liberties when it comes to what actually was around or thought during previous centuries. This book really stuck to the proper confines, and it was fun to really place yourself in a scene.

My only concern with the book was how wholesome it was, but I suppose that might fit with the period as well. I was a little disappointed that the main characters only interacted a handful of times, but I feel like we only caught a glimpse of their early romance. I would have liked two more books just to get to the actual electric interest between the characters that we could see hiding among the pages.

Overall a great read, and I will definitely check out more from this author! My opinion was freely given and only reflects my personal views.

Posted to Goodreads, B&N, Amazon and talked about in my local/online book clubs.

I enjoyed this story for its unconventionality but I had some difficulty finding a romantic connection.

Cassandra is an independent, forward thinking and learned young woman. She can ride a horse at full gallop while shooting pheasants with her shot gun. Edwin started as an immature selfish young man who devises a scheme to try to thwart his father’s directive only to have that plan snowball out of his control. Thankfully, he owned up to his part in the plot and tried to make amends. I even enjoyed Edwin’s groveling for Cassandra’s forgiveness. (I usually find most romances have the h forgive the H too quickly.)

What I had difficulty with was the romance between Cassandra and Edwin. They were in each other’s presence for only 3 different events (one in which Edwin doesn’t even talk to Cassandra) and yet they felt this “undeniable connection”. In the other 2 interactions, they mainly discussed innocuous topics such as the adaptation of a side saddle for a woman to ride more safely while hunting or the construction of a continuous flowing water source for a dog’s drinking water. While interesting, it didn’t give me the feeling of finding one’s soul mate. There was not even a kiss to see if there was any physical connection! But there was enough to this tale that I am interested in Sybil and Lockwood’s story.

This regency series follows 6 men who all have Dukes as fathers. These Dukes have made a pact to defund their sons unless they get married within the next 2 years. This first book follows Edwin who is recently returned from war and has no intention of marrying any time soon and Cassandra who is entering her first season as a debutante.

Cassandra and her friend Sybil intend to avoid the men who are subjects of the pact as they want to marry for love and not because the man is being forced to by his father.

Cassandra mentions at a ball that she enjoys shooting birds and galloping on her horse unaccompanied. Edwin and the other men decide to use this information to deflect attention from themselves, but of course this explodes into much worse gossip that threatens to ruin Cassandra.

What I enjoyed about this book was that the dialogue and manners depicted felt very period appropriate. It seems that the author took pains to research this and make it accurate while also seeming natural. I also loved the dogs, they were funny and a good diversion. Many of the side characters were great actually, the Dowager Countess and Lord Burke with his cook stories were great.

I guess the reason it was only a 3 star for me was that I really didn't feel the connection between the main couple. They actually only really spent time together at 3 different events and he rode with her in the park but didn't hardly spoke to her. I just found it really hard to believe that she would care enough to get over being basically ruined by the man let alone love him after so little interaction. I cared more about Sybil and what seems to be growing with her and Lockwood.

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.

After their father's get together and plot for their sons to marry, 6 Ducal heirs are at odds to stop themselves from being caught in marriage, and need to find something to stop people talking about them. In comes Miss Cassandra Knightsbridge, the only daughter of a Surrey Viscount, who has been allowed a lot of freedom in her youth, including riding alone on her estate, and shooting pheasant, is part way through her first season when she comes across Lord Edwin Hampton, and they get off to a rocky start. Annoyed and a bit embarrassed, Hampton decides that the group of six should find some dirt on Cassandra, and get it spread about the Ton. He soon feels guilty, though, especially as the more time he and Cassandra are together, and actually talk to each other, they find kindred spirits, and the sparks begin to fly. Both are well on their way to falling for one another, but the rumours and threat to her reputation is looming, and soon Cassandra finds herself heartbroken and betrayed. Can she find it in herself to forgive Hampton, and does he deserve her forgiveness?

The plot in this book was so good, and there were so many turns that I didn't see coming. A woman's reputation is everything in Regency Era society, and for Cassandra's to be questioned is neigh on the end of the world. But, she has strong and powerful friends and allies, and I adored the introduction of the Dowager Duchess of Carlisle. She was just perfect, and after being with her, Cassandra developed such a strong character - I loved it! Cassandra and Hampton together was everything you might want in a couple for this book, and their chemistry was wonderful. Starting off on the wrong foot, and then slowly building admiration and affection for each other, it was clear their feelings were genuine, but the expected angst caused them to be pushed apart, but the resolution was even better than I could've expected! I'm really intrigued on the other men in the Pact, especially Lockwood, who I hope gets with Sybil eventually. A really outstanding debut, from an author I'm looking forward to reading again.

This was a drama-like story that has very well developed characters. Cassandra is a strong independent woman that puts on a show for the ton, yet it goes against her nature. I love how she stands up for herself and makes an impression. Edwin is balking at his father's demand that he get married. He and his friends are trying their best to get out of the spotlight. Their plan is to make the tongues wag about something else: what better than a horse-riding lady that shoots for fun. Edwin realizes he made a mistake when he has a meaningful conversation with Cassandra. This book shows the damage that gossip can cause and how people can overcome.
The author did a good job of developing the setting of the story and the characters were well developed, I felt that the book felt slow and at times a little wordy. I like that the book was written in third person, but it was distracting to delve into the thoughts of secondary or even some minor characters.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. I recommend this book to those that like drama stories and clean romance.

What a great story. Girl meets boy and isn't impressed. Cassandra is a headstrong, stick to your guns kind of girl. Easy to like. And then she meets Edwin. Definitely not love at first site. But love it is! Can't wait for the next book!!

Gossip Is the Devil’s Tool

To call them cads would be an understatement. To get the ton off their backs, six men, if you can call them that, start a rumor about an innocent woman. May they get their just desserts. Is Cassandra up to the task? The six noblemen acted as mature as schoolboys. How much would Edwin have to grovel, and will Cassandra ever forgive him? It took me a bit to get into the story. It was a bit slow for me, and it didn’t have as much romance and action as I would like. I enjoyed the last third of the book most. If you like clean Regency romance, you might enjoy this story. It did not hold my interest, but I seem to be in the minority.

I enjoyed reading this story about six Dukes who all had sons that would inherit the titles of becoming a Duke. This story is about a new debutant Cassandra Knightsbridge, the only child of the Viscount Trebly and Edwin Weston, Viscount Hampton and eldest son of the Duke of Carlisle. The six future Dukes were not ready to marry so they decided to cause trouble.
I would recommend this story to be read to see what happens!!

I recieved a free copy from netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Hampton comes off as unlikable and even though he quickly becomes contrite and tries to make amends for some reason I just couldn't accept it. Hampton's father along with 5 other dukes make a pact that their sons must be married within 2 seasons. To draw attention from themselves they start gossip about Cassandra who is having her first season. Her only crime seems to be that she doesn't want to marry a duke and that she likes to shoot pheasant with a shotgun. The whole ruining a woman reputation because you want the focus on someone else was a ridiculous, mean, and immature move. Even through Hampton immediately reconsiders and does everything to try and help Cassandra, I couldn't seem to forgive him. I suppose in part that may be because he had no other personality. He is rude when they meet, he starts a rumor with his friends, and then he is suddenly sorry and in love. Other people seemed to enjoy it but I am not sure that I will bother with the other books in this series because none of the men come off as likeable. Just selfish and entitled.

Six powerful Dukes band together and come up with a plan to require their first born sons to get their acts together and marry within 2 years, or else suffer the consequences.
Unfortunately as the six young Lords come up with a plan of their own to take the tons interest off of themselves, Cassandra Knightsbridge becomes the victim to their plan.
Kate Archer shows us how quickly gossip can destroy a person's reputation, and how it can snowball into something bigger than originally intended.
This is my first time reading a book by Kate Archer, and it definitely won't be my last. I loved the depth and variety of the different characters. It is a sweet romance, Cassandra is a strong independent woman, and Edwin, Lord Hampton still has a lesson or two to learn about life and his own importance.
I am really looking forward to reading the rest of the this delightful new series!
