Very relatable but very slow which I couldn't force myself to read it when I have dealt with those problems first hand
Unfortunately I had difficulties downloading this book to my kindle - maybe it wasn't offered in this format??
Either way, I'm loving the reviews so have requested this book from my local library and will be sure to leave a review on Goodreads as always!
Tried reading this one and it just was not meant for me. This does not mean that it is not a good book, I just was not in the right place to be reading it and have decided to not try picking it up anytime in the near future.
I found some of the characters to be okay, and it was somewhat interesting to see their journey through the book. But Heather and Elizabeth was annoying and bland.. This book ended up not being for me, they annoyed me so much.
Great read, perfect for the summer holidays.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me access an advance copy of this book in exchange for my feedback.
DNF - did not finish. I could not connect with the writing style/plot so I decided to not pick this one up. Thank you, NetGalley and publisher for the early copy!
I've read a few books about girlfriends whose relationships endure for years after their college time (when they formed their bonds first). This particular book was not what I expected. I must say that I was in two minds about the rating, but two things swayed it. One was the simple straightforward writing which made it easy to read; the other was the ending which salvaged much of the book for me (although it might work the other way for some people).
When the story begins, there are five friends, further divided into two groups of two and three respectively if you look further. Each is battling with one issue or the other. As an individual reader, one is bound to be more sympathetic to one predicament over another. There is enough variety to choose from, and I will not be going into details of the individual stories because that's the foundation of the narrative.
I think my issue at this point was that there were too many narrative paths to follow, and my attention and emotions were pulled in too many directions. Despite liking the ending, I thought a very important balance that was not really explored (hint: the mother of one was left surprised on a phone call, any thoughts on that were never referred to again).
The content is complex and would make more sense to a woman 30+ years than someone just starting a post-study life, or at least that's the impression I came away with, especially those who have had enduring relationships with friends.
I received an ARC thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the review is entirely based on my own reading experience (and maybe because I do have a bunch of friends who lead different lives than I do)
All the right mistakes follows the story of five college friends, that now at 40 have pretty different life with only one common denominator: a privileged life.
They know everything about each other and their bond is indestructible, or at least this is what they thought, until Heather publishes a book to help women be successful in their professional life, based on her four friends “mistakes”: opting-put, ramping off, giving half effort and forgetting your fertility; the book soon becomes a best seller and her friends start feeling the sting of those cruel words.
With a flowless narration, Laura Jaminson has been able to show how, despite the privileged life you might be living, no one is ever ready for the unexpected turns that will be thrown at you.
Here is a quote from the book which I found super relevant to me and on which I’ve been reflecting on after yet, again another lockdown:
“ Perhaps we get so caught up in our paid work and our kids’ schedules and our narcissistic pursuits that we make it impossible to let love in”
I’m no parent, but I’ve certainly been caught up so much in my professional life previously that I sometimes forgot to dedicate time and spend my energy on people which love me and closed myself off to all the happiness that was out there, cause I just couldn’t see past my own nose!
I highly recommend this book especially to all the women which are struggling to balance out parental and professional life.
I really enjoyed this book and found myself struggling to put this book down.
The storyline was wonderful and really captured my attention from the start. The characters were wonderful, As the story unfolds, you find yourself completely and utterly engaged in the lives of these women and needed to know how it would all end for them.
A modern story highlighting the struggles that women in their 40's can often face. This book takes you through a range of emotions, and I can truly say this book is certainly a page turner.
I absolutely loved this book and couldn't wait to come back to it once I'd had to put it down (most of the time for sleep - how pesky!) While it actually reads very surface-level, as in there is no deep soul-searching for pages on end in there, I did however feel it caught the spirit of these women perfectly and gave the reader a snapshot of their lives without bogging into too much detail while still giving just enough to make them unique and stand out from the pages. Also, while there is something that happens in there that usually puts me off books (won't spoil - but it happens with Martha), I found myself still wanting and needing to know what happens to these women, so the fact that it kept me reading told me this was a good book because it kept me engaged and wanting to know more. I'll also add I wanted to see how Heather got her come-uppance, and seriously, those women were too forgiving imo, but it was a good story about modern women at forty today and what they're dealing with, juggling, and how society has a set idea for them but they decide to do their own thing and find their happiness on their terms. That's maybe what I liked most about this book, being close to 40 myself and these questions being relevant to me
Five college friends are all turning forty but are in very different situations in their lives. When one of the five writes a women’s advice book detailing the key life “mistakes” of her four friends their friendships are, understandably tested.
I found that initially it felt like there was a lot of characters in this book and I struggled to get my head round which character was which, but once I did I felt I really engaged with the story and I really enjoyed it. This is my first book by this author but I would definitely read more from them in the future.
Well, unfortunately, I did not finish this one. I had such high hopes, thinking it would be great for a book club read with all my fellow moms. But, there were so many characters here. You really need a diagram for all the characters’ names. I found myself pushing through chapters, but having to look back to see who this character was again. Ultimately, I just felt so confused that I put it down. I’m definitely in the minority, but this didn’t work for me.
*I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
DNF at 20%. I did not find this story or the characters interesting or engaging. It just wasn't for me.
Great read with all the right feels of the characters. I love it when the authors go into great detail and you develop relationships with them. Well done!
I found the characters in this book and it's structure and style interesting but I found that the premise of it was hard to engage with and the relationships within the characters felt out of sync with the act of betrayal carried out by their friend. It would be a great easy holiday read but not for someone looking for something deeper and more involved.

▪️MY THOUGHTS
✔️ I really enjoyed this book! Each chapter was told from a different perspective. At first it was hard for me to keep track of who was married to who, what each of them did for work etc. Once I got a handle of all that I just wanted to know what was going to happen next. Betrayal, friendships, marriage, divorce, children this book touched upon it all. It left me sad at times and angry at others - which all in all make for a great reading experience! The book was told in very short chapters - which I really like! Overall it was a great read and I recommend to those that enjoy reading about the ups and downs of friendships.

I adored this book! College friendships truly last a lifetime, from college fun to new jobs, marriages and more. I love how every chapter was written from another character's point of view and I looked forward to picking up my book each day to catch up. Great read!
Great read! The author draws you in with detail that makes you want to read on. I love when books make you think.
I really enjoyed this book. This is the first book I've read by Laura Jamison, but would recommend reading future books. The story follows the decisions and choices by a group of five friends and how that impacts each other. Looking back, the friends wonder what would be different if the decisions made were different. I think at this time, this book is very poignant and on point to things that women struggle with - work, parenting, fertility. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
This was a great novel about life and friendship. It was very well written, and the characters had great back stories. I definitely recommend this one.
Thank you to the publisher for providing me with a copy of this E-book to review via Netgalley.
