Excellent story with a clever twist when they're not expected. I am looking forward to the next book. Really enjoying the series.
I would like to thank Net Galley for the opportunity to Review this book for our readers.
this was another great read from Ms. Richardson, I really enjoyed getting to know the characters and the plot. I look forward to more from the author.
I have some mixed feelings about this sequel. I still love Kai and Mari as characters, I love their dynamic, and the growth they have together in gaining trust in themselves and gaining better control over their magic. I love where the plot went with Chaos, and how they faced and solved those problems.
What I don't love is the subplot with Councilor Skymount. I don't currently feel like it really adds much to the main plot of defeating Chaos. It just feels really out of place right now, and I hope it has a big payoff in the last book, otherwise, it's wasted page time that could be placed elsewhere. Not sure what his game is with Mari and her magic, but I am glad that she didn't keep it completely a secret from him, I still felt like that keeping any part of it secret is a bad thing and I don't want that to come between them in the next book. I don't like it when people (characters) who are close keep secrets from each other with the intent to protect them, it never works out.
Both Mari and Kai have a lot of really important growth in this book, and their attraction to each other is really cute. I like how they both are constantly there for each other and have such a great bond that strengths each other in the best ways. The first half of the book was trying to hide the fact that he had been infected in order to prevent Skymount from being a dick and ignoring the main threat, the man clearly has no care what actually happens to the world, so long as he gains control of the country. That subplot isn't what bothered me, while it was annoying and it seemed that there wasn't a way to prove that he was being biased in his feigned concern for Kai going rogue.
I am very excited to read the next book in the series, and I just love Ava's books so much. Her characters are always all so unique and interesting.
This was my first time reading something from the author Ava Richardson, which made me very interested on the complete series, in this book 2 we follow a girl named Mari Asadottier who in the first book of this series "Reign of Chaos"( be aware that this is part 3 of the series "Alveria Dragon Akademy"). "I don't like to give much of the book I'm not a fan of spoiler myself."
So Mari Asadottier, wants to follow the footsteps of her dad, the head of the Dragon Guard, and become a dragon tamer witch, she managed to become a trainee in the first book...
Now she keeps a secret of crown Prince Kai Afkarr from the Council, that doesn't want the Prince to succeed, (in the first book he was stuck in a dragon form), Prince Kai doesn't have much control over his powers, but gets the help from Mari and still fears his magic.
Now due to a sickness that called Nightmare plage, which makes the crown Prince Kai, fall in a sleeping sickness before his coronation to become king, putting in danger the palace and the city, due to an attack to the city, planed and performed by the God Chaos witch wants to destroy all magic.
Mari believes in the power of the Crown Prince Kai, but she has to figure it out, her creation of magic. This journey makes both go into the beginning of times when everything was created, the challenges that they face, don't stop them to keep going, having to overcome their fears to stop Chaos, Mari fights in what she believes, the Crown Prince Kai, but he needs to believe in himself and accept the fact he has to carry.
This book, I can give it the right justice being the first one I'm reading, was a great read with a great magic world following all the magical journey, the dragon's witch was my first time reading about, this definitely will keep the reader going and wanting more of the series, I will want to start from the first one of this series for sure will probably do a marathon ^^
I received a free kindle copy of this book via Netgalley and am voluntarily giving my own opinion.
