God Loves You, Little Peanut is a heartwarming picture book that shows the devotion and bond of a child and its parents. This adorable rhyme shows children how loved and special they are through daily activities including play and bedtime.
God Loves You, Little Peanut. By Annette Bourland, Illustrator: Rosalinde Bonnet. 2020. Zonderkidz (ARC eBook).
God Loves You, Little Peanut will take families on a charming jaunt across oceans, jungles and mountains, as mothers and fathers demonstrate their love for their children and teach them how to pray, express gratitude and have fun along the way. Everyone will smile looking at pages of adult and baby foxes, elephants, koalas and more, swinging, sledding, and cloud gazing before it is time for bedtime. A sweet story filled with rhymes and adorable illustrations!
God Loves You, Little Peanut is a delightful story showcasing the unconditional love from God and parents for their children. It is told in rhyming verse, and features lots of adorable animal families that have been anthropomorphised. It shows them throughout the day doing things like baking cookies, watching the clouds, playing in the park and snuggling. The story is told in rhyme that flows well and has great cadence. It opens with welcoming the new babe and continues on as the young one grows.
You're new to the world, but already I see
What a blessing you are - what a blessing you'll be.
The illustrations are beautiful, colourful and full of love. The animals are adorable and the actions are wonderfully depicted. Children will recognize the feelings shown and identify with them. This is a great book for a baby shower or early baby birthday. I read this to my 4 year old granddaughter and she enjoyed it. We talked about the illustrations and what was happening. We read it a couple of times before she was ready to move onto a new story.
Cute story for babies and toddlers about what a blessing they are to their parents. The illustrations are beautiful pictures of different animal families. This book is great for kids of all ages who love a great picture book.
Thank you Net Galley for the opportunity to review this book for my honest opinion.
I was blessed to be able to read an advanced copy of this book and it was wonderful! The illustrations are delightful, showcasing many parent/child couples around the world as animals, but doing people things like baking cookies together, watching the clouds, playing in the park. The story reinforces the bonds between parents/grandparents and children. Highly recommended!
This is one of my favorite books when it comes to illustrations! They are so beautifully done and vibrant and I love how many different animal families there are!
The art in this book is so cute and my four year old loved it, we read it three times in a row before he wanted to move on to another story. This has a great message the art is amazing and it is a sweet story.
5 Stars!
Thank you Zonderkidz and netgalley for this copy in exchange for my honest review.
This is a sweet book with good art that explores the love from a parent to small child through the Christian worldview. Each page features an animal family that represents a different culture.
It begs the question, however, why animals? Is there a reason it could not have been people? As I am shopping around and increasing diversity in my children's library, I would not choose this type of "representation" that feels like a cop out. Because it's animals rather than people, it's not always obvious what culture is being represented. For a book that features many different animals and cultures, there's zero teaching or labeling or info about either. It's just a cheesy love message, sadly.
When I'm shopping for children's books I want something that's pleasant to read aloud, has beautiful art, has teachable aspects like hidden items or numbers or letters or colors or emotional intelligence, features diverse characters when applicable, and sparks imagination through creative illustration and story telling.
This is type of book that someone gifts new parents because it's sweet and the gifters aren't the ones reading it. It doesn't teach children any particular message aside from being loved. It's an okay read-aloud. The art is pretty without being inspiring or creative. I hope Christian children's book publishers put better effort into making quality pre-reader books instead of "Christian-ish fluff" simply to fill our shelves.
This picture book for little ones is so adorable, I wanted to squeal multiple times. God Loves You, Little Peanut is told in rhyming verse, and features lots of adorable parent/guardian furry creatures with their little ones. We learn about God’s love and parental love too. It’s really adorable, and the pictures set it apart from other similar books. Highly recommend.
Such a sweet book that captures the wonder and awe of being a parent. Who will you be? What adventures will we have? This is a sweet way to explore that with kids and invite questions about our own life. I loved that each page has just a couple of short rhymes (have you ever read a kids book that felt like a novel?) and the illustrations are precious. Will definitely be purchasing this for our library!
Your're truly a blessing, one of a kind on this earth. Nothing comes close to the treasure you're worth.
A sweet picture book on all the different ways parents and God love you. It is filled with joy. A child feels love when they are enjoyed and not thought of has burden to bear. With different animals on each page, mom and dad are having fun with their little peanut.
A Special Thank you to ZonderKidz and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
Beautiful story that depicts the love of a parent for a child. I loved the illustrations, all the different animals that were included and the use of rhyme in the book. This is a Christian based book and would be a great addition to any child's library.
What a cute adorable book. I read this with my 6 year old and she loved the illustrations and cute little nickname. I love that it was a book that sparked conversations about the future and relationships. with my daughter. I am planning to buy a couple copies of this to gift to a few people with young children that would really enjoy this story.
"God Loves You, Little Peanut" is the celebratory feeling that a parent, grandparent, guardian or anyone for that matter feels when a brand new little one enters into their lives. Pure joy!
This delightful rhyming book showcases playtimes, adventure times, and snuggle times that occur as a baby progresses throughout the day. Anthropomorphic animals open a lens to the reader as to how baby and parent share and covet each moment together from morning until night. Children will identify with those feelings knowing that they too feel special and loved in their own family.
The illustrations are beautifully crafted. They are colourful and heartwarming. This premium picture book will make a wonderful gift for a newborn baby, a baptism, a birthday or anytime love wants to be expressed to one another. I highly recommend this book.

What a sweet book with a special sentiment. I love the message that, "God loves you and I love you." What a perfect book for parents to read their little ones. I love the illustrations as well.
This book is wonderfully adorable. The story is sweet and the illustrations are very kid-friendly. This would make a great gift for a baby shower or first Mother's Day!
God Loves You, Little Peanut by Annette Bourland is a beautifully written, beautifully illustrated story of the love between parents, grandparents, and a child. Filled with special, shared moments, this book would make a beautiful gift. My own daughter was a "Peanut," and this line towards the end of the story resonates deep:
One day you'll be my size, perhaps even taller.
I'll still call you Peanut and wish you were smaller.
Please pass the tissues!
