Super cute! Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the chance to read this book. Maggie goes to France attempting to find her muse and finds beauty itself
Highlights: Paris setting, mature heroes, love triangle, writer's block.
Maggie Finds Her Muse is a witty tale of a romance author suffering from writer's block who goes to Paris to find inspiration to write her latest book. When not writing, Maggie spends time exploring Paris, eating delicious food, and meeting new people, including a charming Frenchman, Max. Maggie's ex-husband, Alan, is also in Paris, visiting their adult daughter, who lives in France. It appears Alan wants to rekindle their relationship, so Maggie is torn between the two men.
I adored this book. I loved that Maggie was a mature heroine in her late forties. I loved the Paris setting, and Maggie's "American tourist" faux pas made me laugh out loud. I also adored all the romance publishing and bookish references. We get a bit of "book within a book" following Maggie's writing process and getting to know her characters. I had this book on my TBR for a long time, and I am glad I finally read it.
Very fun summery beachy read set in Paris. The tone definitely makes a person want to visit there. I doubt I will ever get to go, but I loved reading about Maggie's adventures!
Maggie is a known author trying to write her third novel. She is struggling and can't get things right. A friend suggests she go to Paris to stay at their house and try to find her "muse." What a delightful story. I am a settings fan, and love that this change in scenery helped her jumpstart her novel once again.
Entertaining and delightful!
As a thank you to netgalley and St. Martin’s press, I am writing this review for having received an advanced reader’s copy of Dee Ernst’s novel “ Maggie Finds Her Muse.” The novel is accessible, fast paced, character driven, and provides a laid back atmosphere examining love and its place in our lives. The novel follows a bestselling author named Maggie Bliss who travels to Paris to overcome writer's block. She is known for her historical romance novels and is near the conclusion of her series. The problem is she lacks inspiration and is in need of a “muse” or inspiration. Tropes within the novel include but not limited to second chances, and love at first sight. The city of Paris is a character of its own bringing Maggie opportunities to love again ex. Finding an attractive Frenchman in the bathtub during their introduction to each other. The return of her ex-husband as well as finding romance within her life and future. Add the fact that Maggie is middle aged and the novel follows this demographic in finding love is simply everything. Overall I enjoyed this novel and highly recommend it to those who enjoy fast paced, meet cute novels, romantic comedy vibes and believes in the power of love. I gave this four out of five stars on goodreads.
CUTEE. This was a perfect example of never being too old to figure out your passion. It was a fun read and made me reminiscent on my time in Paris. Even the cover reminded me of the apartment I stayed in (the view). The story took me out of my thoughts.
📖My Thoughts📖
C’est magnifique! I loved this book! Really and truly loved it! The second I picked this book up, I was hooked. I loved the storyline, the characters, and it really just hit me hard in the feels! Maggie was so lost at the beginning of the book and I really enjoyed seeing her grow and become so passionate about her writing and just experiencing life itself. This book was so beautifully written and having been to France myself, even though it was many years ago, I felt like I was there again. In fact, I stayed for most of the summer in Rennes. While reading this book, I felt like I had time traveled back to Rennes and could even close my eyes and feel as though I was physically there. It’s cute, entertaining, an easy read and a great feel good story. Very well done! This is an absolute must read!
Thank you Netgalley, Dee Ernst and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read and review this wonderful book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
This was an absolute escape for me. Loved the dynamics of family relationships along with the romance. Atmospheric setting thrown in there was a great combo as well. It took me a while to get into it at first, but ended up really enjoying myself.
I wanted to like this more, but I couldn't get into it. Maybe it was the headspace I was in at the time. I really did enjoy the characters and the plot of her running away to Paris and the romance.
I really loved this book. I loved the fact it was a romance book with the main characters in her fourties'. It was so refreshing and fun to read about something different. Also, there are some steamy scenes in this book. I loved the French atmosphere and the talk of all the food. If you haven’t read this one yet, I recommend it!
this book gave me the feels and made me wish i traveled to Paris. It felt real and made me think. She was older and needed to figure out her life. Sometimes we all need that.
Maggie is a best selling author who is in the middle of writing a trilogy and has been lacking inspiration. Her agent Lee and his partner Marin suggest she come to Paris to help overcome her writer’s block.
Maggie’s daughter Nicole is living there and it just so happens that her ex-husband is there visiting at the same time. Maggie arrives in Paris and begins to settle in when she walks into the bathroom to find the house keepers son Max in the bathtub. Is this a meet cute or has Maggie finally found her muse?
This is the ultimate summer read. Once I started I couldn’t put it down and ended up devouring it in two sittings.
I was blown away with how much I enjoyed Dee Ernst’s writing and Maggie’s story and this will definitely be one of my favourite romances of the year.
I want to thank St. Martins Press and Netgalley for generously providing me with this book in exchange for an honest review.
Maggie Bliss, a bestselling author, heads to Paris to get past her writers block. Maggie was a very likable character and this was a very sweet romance.
A sweet story about finding yourself after a divorce, I enjoyed this tender hearted novel about second chances. I also loved the descriptions of Paris! I really felt immersed in the setting of this story. Really liked this one!
Such a sweet read to come to after a few darker mystery/suspense books that I’d been reading!
Maggie is a middle-aged woman that needs to find inspiration to write, and where better than Paris to find it.
I enjoyed this story overall, and loved the wine and food that the Parisian lifestyle offered.
*many thanks to St. Martin’s Press/Netgalley
St Martin’s Griffin for the gifted copy for review
As always, thanks a ton for the ARC!
This was a cute story- however I felt like it was just never ending and at some points just not for me. However , I do like the writing style and plan to pick up another book by Dee Ernst, just to give it another go. Could’ve been a timing thing for me. Still a solid 3 stars.
I really liked MAGGIE FINDS HER MUSE by Dee Ernst because the novel features a 48-year-old woman (YAY for a protagonist who isn’t in her twenties!) and because it is set in Paris. This novel feels like a mini-vacation or a party because of the way Paris is described and how richly the other characters & scenes are described. The main character Maggie is completely relatable and is facing a career sticky point of writers block. MAGGIE FINDS HER MUSE was a fun, quick read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thank you to NetGalley for the complimentary copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
This fun rom-com was exactly the palette cleanser I didn't know I was needing in my life. Pick this book up if you're looking for something light and refreshing.
I absolutely loved getting to know our main character Maggie through the course of this story. She was such a likable character! Truly each of the characters here were lovely to come along though and I appreciated how well developed they were. Something else I really enjoyed and which is a testament to this author's superb writing was how atmospheric the France setting was. It felt like I was transported right there as I was reading.
Inspirational and just flat out lovely, I laughed and smiled my way through this book. I loved it! Highly recommend to my fellow rom-com fans!
Many thanks to St. Martin's Griffin and NetGalley for the gifted e-copy.
Thanks NetGalley for the preview!!
I loved the opening break-up scene in this book! I could see it playing out in my head and really enjoyed the author's continued descriptions of setting. It really allowed me to immerse myself in Paris and the story. Maggie is a loveable character and Nicole was the absolute best. Overall the troupe of characters was super and I found a soft spot for each one. I liked the glimpses into her novel and the writing process. I'd read a sequel!
I received a copy of this story from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Oh what a beautiful way to start the new year! This book is darling. I fell right into it and didn't really want to come up for air.
The characters are wonderful. Older romantic leads are not as common so it was refreshing to read a story like this one. And it was cool to see older characters in general. The multi-generationalness of this made me smile.
Maggie is clearly lost when we first meet her. It was great fun to go on that journey of self-discovery with her. Her romance writing isn't to my taste at all so I liked reading about Bella and Lance a little less but fortunately they weren't hugely important. Though the scene in the Luxembourg Gardens was hilarious and delightful.
This made me want to go back to Paris so bad. It was lovely revisiting places through Maggie and everyone else. Her culture shock was captured beautifully. Her enjoyment of all things French brought back lots of happy memories for me. It's a lovely bit of vicarious travel, those parts.
This is more than a romance novel. It's a wonderful exploration of self, of success, of happiness, of being the main character in your own story. I will be recommending this book to everyone!
