Cute. I like Caroline B. Cooney and that she is able to write for readers of many ages. I liked the story and the art. Great one.
This was an adorable children's book that I really loved because of the story and the illustrations. I love polar bears, so this was a great addition to my storytime books.
Thank you Zonderkidz-Book and NetGalley for the e-arc.
What an adorable book with wonderful illustrations. Written well providing a great flow while reading. Shows how special and wonderful hugs are. My 3 year old loved it and made me give hugs after because she wanted to be happy 'just like the girl', my kids' words. So sweet.
My grandchildren and I read this book snuggled up as the weather begins to get cold. Each page spread shows the little girl and an animal hugging. The text is rhyming and refers to a characteristic of the animal pictured (eg. I'm going to give you a reindeer hug. A race through the snow, From antlers to toe, Ready set go hug.) The illustrations are wonderful, bright, vibrant, action based and showing joyful characters. The end shows a dad and his children playing and hugging on the floor. We are a very demonstrative family, so giving hugs, rolling around on the ground and sitting on laps is something my grandkids are used to. This is a cute story about showing love as well as giving some information about cold weather animals. A story that the little ones loved and the older one could read. We used this as a bedtime story and it worked well with final snuggles for the night.
What an adorably sweet story! How do you explain hugs? By getting and giving them to the animals you meet outside in the snow, of course. Each hug describes what each hug feels like. So simple that it is deeply moving. A book that is meant to be read while sitting on a lap, snuggled up close to your child.

Fun Hugfest
This is a fun and whimsical picture book. In it, a little girl wants to give a variety of winter hugs to animals, hugs matching the animals’ personalities or activities. The text rhymes in places and has a lilting cadence that makes it a pleasure to read out loud. It's a pleasure to watch the little girl’s excitement as she embraces winter and all that it means to her animal friends. She also includes her younger brother and father in the hugfest. The illustrations that go along with the book echo the joy and exuberance of the text. A lot of fun.
I received an electronic ARC from Zonderkidz-Books through NetGalley.
Hugs are important to everyone and this little one spends the book giving an amazing variety of hugs all based around the wintry theme. Lyrical text and charming illustrations make this a fun family read to show love and care. The joy on the character faces comes through to bring the message to life.
This book has such fun art and a sweet little story. My four year old really enjoyed this book and got excited about all of the animals. Great story.
5 Stars!
This story is so cute. It's about different types of animal hugs such as those that are soft and cuddly and how they relate to human hugs. The illustrations are charming and the leading girl a POC. All together this is a perfect picture book. The rhymes work, the cadence is spot on, the illustrations make the reader feel warm and cuddly, and the story itself works on all levels.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Giving different animal type hugs.
This book and it’s sweet rhyming rhythm are seriously adorable. It’s all about hugs, animals, and family love. I am so happy to see a brown family featured, and tenderness and hugs between a father and son. It’s a sweet little picture book with really adorable photos. It feels warm and cozy, which is perfect for a winter themed book.
I requested and received an e-ARC of this book from Caroline B. Cooney and Zonderkidz through NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
This was a great rhyming book about the different types of hugs you would receive from all of the winter animals. You might get a Polar Bear hug, or a Goose hug, or even a Reindeer hug, you will just have to read it to find out. This book had great illustrations that were bright, colorful, and inviting.
This is a lovely book with adorable illustrations, colourful scenes. And rhyming text. You can feel the joy and love in both giving and receiving hugs.
this book is funny. and all the animals are the boy who dresses up like a polarbear's stuffed animals.
This is a cute book for toddlers. My g-g-daughter loves hugs and she loves books about hugs The pictures are cute and this is a perfect bedtime (or anytime) story.
I recommend this to grandmas and mamas who want to add some books to their collection for their smallest ones.

There is one word to describe this book and that is sweet. The pictures are adorable and the story itself is just so cute. I love the flow of the story and how well everything rhymes, I smiled the entire time I was reading. It’s really just the sweetest!
I'm Going to Give You a Polar Bear Hug by Caroline Cooney is a really cute book for young children about giving different types of hugs. The story goes through different types of animals hugs, such as a polar bear hug, fox hug, seal hug, and bunny hug. I loved how the author described what each hug was like, coordinating it with the type of animal. The flow of the text is perfect and easy to read out loud. The illustrations of each animal are adorable and will capture the attention of any young reader. I believe this is the second book to I'm Going to Give You a Bear Hug by Caroline Cooney; however, it can be read on its own. This will make the perfect book during the wintertime for any child ages 0 to 8. I will be buying this myself when it is available.
Fantastic! Wonderful pictures, great rhymes, and a myriad of animal hugs make this book a winner for young readers! It’s sweet and fun. My girls loved all the different animals.
I enjoyed both the story and the illustrations in “I’m Going to Give You a Polar Bear Hug”. The illustrations are bright and happy. The cardinal, reindeer and walrus are just too cute. They are so cute, I want to give them a big squeeze. Oh wait, that’s exactly the point. Smile.
The rhyming text is all about hugs. “I’m going to give you a walrus hug. An out on the ice floe,
Wow! Does the wind blow! Where did your hat go, hug.” I like the inclusion of some less common words for the early elementary audience for expansion of vocabulary.
A wonderful story to read to your children at bedtime.
My only criticism is that the flow of the rhymes became a bit disjointed right at the end. That doesn’t ruin the love, joy and fun found in the story.
I Received an ARC copy from net galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
This was a fun book to read with my son. He was engaged with the pictures on each page and enjoyed the flow of the story.. I thought it was easy to read and to pick up on the flow when reading, to allow a pattern to the rhymes that occur.
Overall I thought this was a beautifully written and illustrated book that I would recommend for children.
