Ok, so I don’t watch The Bachelor or The Bachelorette, but I thought this sounded like it could be kind of funny and cute so I decided to try it. The book was decent enough. Greta and Ollie were both ok. I’m not a big fan of miscommunication being a driver, so that bugged me a bit. It might be because I don’t like reality shows, but this book really just wasn’t for me.
Thank you netgalley for allowing me to read this early. I have never read anything by this author so i was excited when I was granted access. Sadly, I couldnt get into this one and DNFd it.
Full disclosure - i am not a fan of reality dating shows like The Bachelor, and I think because of that, I did not enjoy this book nearly as much as I should have.
It was fun and quick to read however it didnt capture me as much as other romance novels. It was very heavy on the game aspect and I think a little light on the growth of a romance, and it led me to the ending being just completely too far fetched.
But it is easy, light and quick to read and if you love The Bachelorette, you will probably go nuts for this.

I really couldn't get into this book. It lacked character development and I didn't feel the connection/romance between the main characters. A miss for me.
I received a free copy of Betting on Sin in exchange for an honest review. I thought this book would have some potential based on the description. However, this book did not capture my interest, and I found it difficult to finish.
If there had been more character development of Greta and more romance development with Oliver, I believe this book might have been more interesting. Unfortunately, this was not a good read for me.
The story is quite unique and modern capturing aspects of our daily lives, where we are unprecedentedly watching leisurely a reality show. It was a sweet and pleasant story, but I wasn't swept away.

I don't give many one star ratings, but this contemporary romance set during the taping of a Bachelorette-type dating show is a hot mess. The premise of the book is not original and it's poorly written.
Greta was a contestant on the dating show's previous season, and is now the Bachelorette that 30 men are vying to win over. She says that she's looking for a good guy to be her true love. She calls her true love her "person", just like Meredith Gray calls Dr. Yang in "Greys Anatomy". The author overused this phrase and it drove me nuts every time I read it.
The author tried to make the main character edgy and funny, but I found her crass and unsympathetic. The book doesn't go into detail about the contestants on the show because Greta immediately falls for the cameraman assigned to film her, so the show plays almost no part in the book. There is no character development, or story development for that matter. The "journey" (it's so brief I don't even know if I can call it that) of the couple's romance is so rushed that I didn't feel like this was even a romance book. Three-fourths of the book is Greta's weird inner dialogue and unfunny "gaffs". The actions of the supporting characters are so hokey and unrealistic, it was painful to read and I found myself rolling my eyes on multiple occasions. This book really missed the mark with me.

I love discovering new authors and this was a fun and light story to lose yourself in one afternoon.
I really liked it in concept of reality TV inspired by "The Bachelor" and although I didn't read the first book I think that it wasn't necessary either because everything was easy to understand besides containing a mini summary at the beginning. The introduction to the book was a little... boring. I have to say it. But then the book picked up a good rhythm and I didn't even realize how fast it got to the end. The main characters were fine, there was nothing very deep about them or the plot.
Overall this was a good read and I would totally read more work on this author.

It was a cute story, fun look behind the scenes of the reality tv world. Did not have a lot of depth.
Hey, can I steal you for a second? If you, too, are a nonsensical person missing the Bachelor Nation pseudo-reality tv landscape, have I got the recommendation for you. First, how are you not binging Love Island on hulu? Second, this indie romance, Betting on Sin, has got you covered.
Greta landed in third place on last season of Lock and Key, and she now finds herself lonely at the top as this season's Key, 30 hopeful Locks vying for her heart and television ratings. But what if she feels more for one of the cameramen on the show than any of the contestants?
I love the premise of this book. It scratched my reality tv itch and gave me some top shelf drama (yay!). However, I didn't feel that I really got to know Greta or Ollie as well as I wanted to. Also, I'm not a fan of the trope where everyone's tears could have been avoided with proper communication.
Overall, I recommend this to fellow dating reality tv fans who want a light read to fill the void left by covid-19.
This was such a fun read. Its one of those books that is great if you just take it surface level. Its not some deep book with full character development. But I like it because of that; I don't need to think of who a character is because there is only a few worth remembering. This is a bachelorette reality show but as a book; it has episodes and drama but also more of a realness then you would get in the tv show. You get to know what the main heroine, Greta, is thinking most of the time and her actions make sense. I would have liked for her and Oliver to have made a move before they did; sometimes I was even screaming it at the phone. but it made sense for her character to be more reserved in this as it is completely uprooting everything she's there for by making a move.
Most of the contestants blur together but the stories not truly about them so it doesn't bother me. I liked that the secondary characters are a lesbian couple. The entire book was funny, and kept my attention. It had a nice pace but like most reality show romances was easy to guess what was coming next. It was great way to pass the time. I would recommend it.
Greta is a contestant on a Bachelorette style show called Lock and Key. She was the almost runner up on the last season of the show - when two of the bachelorettes chose each other instead of the bachelor! Drama! She declares she's on the show only to find love - and that she is very open to all the possibilities. But as the show progresses she is more drawn to her cameraman Oliver than any of the possible bachelors.
I liked a lot about the book - Greta is sweet and spunky - but doesn't feel very authentic as a person. Ollie is a total sweetheart. He is clearly very in to Greta - but he has a longtime girlfriend, Clara, that he has been with since high school. Pretty much everything about Greta's season on Lock and Key goes wrong - from a brawl between contestants, to really only have a small amount of sparks with any of the guys. Add that to her relationship with Ollie and you get a whole lot of drama.
If you love the Bachelor - this will be a very fun read for you. I had high hopes for it - even though that particular slice of reality tv isn't for me. I was let down by the lack of authenticity of the characters and a feeling that the drama felt almost as manufactured as any reality TV show. I just didn't feel the romantic connections.
Overall it is a fun book!
I received the book as an ARC from NetGalley, but these lukewarm opinions are all my own.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me an e-arc in exchange for an honest review. My review is my own and not influenced by others.
Betting on Sin is book 2 of the Betting on series by Maria Ann Green but you can read it as a standalone. Greta had decided to be the next Bachelorette in an television show. Instead of falling for one of the guys who joined the show, she’s falling for the camera man Oliver.
To be honest, I don’t watch the Bachelor of Bachelorette shows on television, but I was curious about this book so I was glad I got the opportunity to get an e-arc. I though Greta and Oliver were nice characters, the book was fine but it didn’t get my full attention.
I received an ARC from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. I’m a huge fan of the bachelor and bachelorette show. Which is why I wanted to read this book. It was a fast paced, and cute book. I liked the main characters, but felt the story was a bit dull for me. The epilogue was pretty good.
As Greta navigates dating once more on TV for the world to see she finds a friend in sweet Ollie who’s job is to capture her feelings but what he captures is more than that and now Greta must find a way to get what her heart truly desires!
This was my first by the author and it was an enjoyable read! I would love to get different points ov view but over all an enjoyable read! And a sweet sweet ending!
Betting on sin was very interesting and unique. It's like the bachelorette, except this time the bachelorette hoping to find love seems more interested in her cameraman. I thought this huge aspect of the novel was very different compared to other novels that had the same concept as the show. Either way, this novel was absolutely amazing, and if there was a second novel to this standalone, I would be the first to buy it.
This book was a little slow in the beginning and I didn't really enjoy the concept of a Bachelorette type reality show, but the farther in I got I was pleasantly surprised. I thought that Ollie's character was well written and very sweet, and Greta was a good match for him. There were some steamy scenes which were very well written, a must in a good romance! overall it was a pretty good quick read and I think people would enjoy it.
